Worth driving here. You get to drive in yhe middle of nice roads with trees. It has a small parking lot. There's a porta potty there BTW. I don't know if there are more restrooms besides those 2. Nice entrance that gives you the vibe of what's going to be on the other side. They also start show8ng names of yhe plants. They have plenty! You'll walk right through their office or where you can pay for plants. Then you'll decide how to go down: through stairs, a wooden path, or just down hill. There, you can go and try finding 15 fairy doors while looking at all these gorgeous tall trees. Or just walk around the trails admiring the plants and flowers around. Is just a peaceful place. Come and read a book. Take plenty of pictures, and take a seat. Relax. This is truly a hidden gem. read more

I went here for a wreath making class and arrived a little early so I walked around and it was so awesome! I would love to come back here during the spring and summer months with my kids. They would love to explore everything this botanic garden has to offer. The staff is also very knowledgable and friendly. Parking is not great, but it would not be a deal breaker! read more

A botanic garden (and nursery) tucked into a neighborhood and so well hidden I had never heard of it before? Yes please! This is definitely my kinda place. The dude and I were recently on the hunt for some specimens for his front yard, and looking for plant nurseries on Yelp, when we stumbled upon this place. Apparently, it was former private land (spoiler alert: owned by the Kruckebergs) that was donated to the city with the requirement it be kept as public space. Folks, this spot is GORGEOUS! If you're looking for a lush, 100% native plant/tree experience this is the spot to visit. Entry is via a small parking lot, with a couple of wide gravel paths leading through a mini forest of cedars, firs, and other #localfamous trees. You'll also find all the usual suspects lingering throughout: ferns, hoekera, rhodies, azaleas, grasses, etc etc etc. About half way through the ginormous (and very walkable) lot is a small native plant nursery, and further back (down a pretty steep hill that they're currently making wheelchair accessible) is what appears to be an event/gathering space. It was raining on the day we visited, though, so we didn't venture into this area. If you're into easy day walks or just looking for something interesting to do in the north end, I'd definitely recommend a visit to Kruckeberg. read more

This is a neighborhood gem! Tucked away amongst homes in the Richmond Beach neighborhood, it is a beautifully cared for sanctuary. It has a native and rare plant nursery, walkable paths, and a new accessible ramp to get you to the lower level. There are beautiful plants, trees, and shrubs, all labeled and tagged. And a lovely, polished tree root that is part nature, part sculpture, part art, and fully climbable. A stream with wetland plants, a towering canopy with native birds, and a children's garden are all found in this compact yet large feeling space. They host plant sales, as well as classes and camps. Take note that their hours vary seasonally. read more

Growing up, my family and I frequently came to MsK Nursery and Kruckeberg Botanic Garden before the nursery/botanic garden was purchased by the City of Shoreline in 2008 following the passing of a parks bond in 2006. A different agreement, the Grant Deed of Conservation Easement helps protect the location from development - per my understanding. Our frequency of visiting the nursery and botanic garden has decreased since the transfer. Visiting as a child was enjoyable because the space was large and fun to explore. As a small one, the garden felt especially large. As I grew taller and bigger, some of the magic of the place was lost a little as it started to feel smaller. I still enjoyed looking at the different plants and watching for different wildlife as my parents were in deep discussion about whether there was space in the garden for a particular plant, and if not, how the garden would need to change to accommodate it if they bought it. Saw a number of different birds and smaller critters over the years while they had those discussions. read more

Wow! This place is the hidden gem of hidden gems. I was looking for a new place nearby to explore with my toddler and found this with a hasty search. 5 minutes away from my parents and had never heard of this place, so why not. Allows leashed dogs too, great for the whole family. We strolled along the nursery area (delightful, with lights and all) thinking it would make for a quick 20 minute excursion. Then we discovered the lower garden, which was huge! We spent another hour there, there's a nice winding walking path and a "fairy" garden for kids to build and play in. We had a blast. Will definitely come back with the kiddo/family, but also could imagine bringing a book and relaxing on a bench too. read more

One of the best things about living in this part of the world is that places like Kruckerberg Botanic Garden just exist in the middle of suburb instead of being bulldozed to put up another McMansion. I've been wanting to stop by for ages, so when I saw they were hosting a Dia De Los Muertos festival, I made it a point to stop in. The Garden is lovely, with natural paths that lead through tall western red cedars, tanbark oaks, maples, larches and dawn redwoods among others. Native plants are present everywhere as are non-native plants, and there are plenty of benches along the path where you can rest and take in the amazing beauty all around you. Be sure to stop by the MSK nursery to pick up something new to add to your own botanic garden. I have been trying to add more native plants to my yard, and was really happy to see how many were available. read more

So much to see along the walking paths. They offer plants for sale, summer kids activities, & you can be a volunteer thorough out the year. For a quick escape, take a detour north and hike around the Kruckeberg premises for a bit. My first visit was during a torrential rain storm and the wooded path kept me dry as I wandered around in awe. This is a perfect little gem of a place, tucked away in the northern parts of Shoreline. Started as the personal garden of Mareen and Arthur Kruckeberg, it has now been turned into a lovely public garden, with a focus on PNW native plants. Great inspiration if you are curious what a naturalistic approach on four acres can do. As a bonus, if so inclined you can stop by the MsK Nursery found on the premises, to find some great plants to put into your own yard. Truly a little oasis off the beaten path worth seeking out. read more

Came here to get a specific native plant. We are trying to change our yard to mostly native plants and they had the Cinnamon Balm (Ceanothus velutinus) that I had been searching far and wide for. Heidi, one of the staff had been at the Bastyr University Herb Fair the week before and told me they had some there, started from cuttings from her dad's place on the Kitsap penninsula. They had fewer than she remembered, but we ended up with one to full a hole in our front yard. While we were there, we walked the grounds. It is a fantastic public garden. Parking is limited, but if you can find a spot it is definitely a great spot to visit. If you are interested in buying native plants, they have many to choose from. We will return. read more

This place is really cool and best of all, FREE! Nestled in a neighborhood, this 4 acre garden is really unique. There are so many species of plants and trees that have such interesting character or attributes. Expect to look closely at trees and plants that seem ordinary upon first glance but have extraordinary features. A good majority of the plants are labeled and a lot of them are for sale as well. They are currently doing construction to get a small parking lot in place so parking is limited but if you're looking for a fun, free activity, check it out. What a great garden the community has invested in! It was a beautiful day and an empty parking lot, and I was with my sweetheart, so what more is there to say? All of the staff is great, came out to greet us immediately. The drive getting there was great too. I wouldn't mind starting a little cafe with organic coffee and pastries with them if I could, also adding a few bee-hives wouldn't be such a bad idea! read more

This is a beautiful sanctuary in Richmond Beach. We went on a Friday and there were only a handful of other people here. My 1 year old could've stayed here all day. The nursery also sells a great variety of native and rare plants with prices starting at a few dollars. read more

This is a pretty nice garden to walk through and relax. Because I have a 3 year old what I really enjoy about this place is during the summer they are doing garden tots Fridays where they have fun themed arts and activities for the tots. The staff is really friendly here. read more

Went for a kids' event today with my kid and a friend and her kid. The kids had a great time, and we would come again. I hope that they'll come up with more fun ideas, and continue having kids' events, and I'm sure they'll get things this event (it was a new one for them this year) to run even more smoothly in the future. Browsing their plants for sale was a little overwhelming, though. It would really help if they had slightly better signage for which types of plants are in which section, and also more pictures-- I'm not an advanced enough gardener to know very many Latin names for plants, and there may have been some things I would have bought, had I known what they were. It was especially hard to tell, because a lot of the plants were very young. read more
