I'm not sure what that wrinkled drape is covering behind the bar, but it's hideous. Service is good, not great, but they haven't been trained. Raw bar needs cocktail forks and crackers. Main dishes are just barely warm and not seasoned properly. Bake fresh rolls and serve hot! It's like a country menu that tried to grow up. Desserts are shameful.

Great historic hotel in Greeneville. General Morgan Inn is situated right in the heart of town and…read morewithin walking distance of the Andrew Johnson home and visitor center. The hotel dates back to the 1800s and has a lot of interesting design features. I found my room to be spacious and, thankfully, very quiet too. Bed was comfortable and the hotel had decent amenities. It did seem quite dated (ie 90s era brass, carpet, old phone, etc.) with the interior finish. That's probably the biggest issue here. But, it seemed very clean (perfect health score) and is still nice. The only thing that would improve the hotel is to update the interior finish in the rooms. Otherwise, it's good and you'll be comfortable here. I really liked that they give you a $8 voucher for the nearby coffee shop. That's a nice perk since the coffee is better than what you'd find in a regular hotel. Also, they have 3 free Tesla chargers. That's a big benefit if you have a Tesla and want to charge on the road. Overall: Great hotel with a lot of charm. Worth a stay.

Back in the area for business…read more Making a reservation was easy and when I got here, it was confirmed that the lady on the phone left detailed notes for anyone after her because of an exemption they give with certain employers on room rates. The issue though was that the elevator was out of use (ended up finding out it was caused by a bad capacitor caused by a lightning strike, a maintenance individual coming in to replace it and not doing it, and then an emergency switch catastrophic failure), but this was disclosed as I was making my reservation on the phone. I was able to get a king suite (picture 39 of 63 on this Yelp entry) just because the rest of the rooms were sold out on the first floor. From my last review, one item I never elaborated on was the cable. Yes, this hotel does have History, Discovery, and Travel channels. In fact, I think they maxed out the tiers on whomever their cable provider is. 10/14/2025 GEEZUS! They are innovative with their breakfast?! I went down to find either country fried steak or a chicken patty along with sausage patties and hash browns in the breakfast area. Whatever it was, it was so good (the meat inside was white, so probably chicken). This is definitely a nice change from just having sausage or bacon like at other hotels I have stayed at. By introducing a meat with breading, it is further enhanced by the sausage gravy that this hotel serves for its biscuits and gravy! One could even make waffles and you get? Chicken and waffles! Suggestion: If the owner of this hotel reads this review, consider putting out cold cut salami or ham slices and a cheese plate. Apparently, all the top tier hotels in Europe do that. 10/15 The breakfast was still the same, with all the same meats, baked goods, etc. I ended up getting a waffle and trying it with the chicken patty and it was great. CHICKEN AND WAFFLES! Good with syrup and ketchup as well. The only issue with dining was just that this hotel does not keep any caffeinated and decaffeinated teas. All in all, it was a good stay. I just wish their elevator was working.

PROS: One of the best things about this hotel is it's set way back from the main road, so it's quiet. We were on a 3 week trip and I had the best sleep of the trip here. They also have a 'Quiet After 10pm' sign in the lobby to remind people to be quiet. The only thing we heard at night was a dog barking somewhere, but it wasn't that bothersome for very long. Typical hotel complimentary breakfast buffet including bananas, cold cereals, oatmeal, hot items, tea, coffee, juices, etc. Spacious breakfast seating area with TVs on the wall as well as a patio area. Complimentary parking in spacious outdoor, uncovered lot. Good shower pressure. Well maintained, clean. We saw someone picking up trash outside. Hairdryer, microwave, fridge, iron/board and safe in the room. Shampoo, soap and conditioner mini toiletries. CONS: VERY noisy fan in the bathroom. It was annoying! The hangers are the kind without hooks. Hate those! Lumpy pillows. Our GPS lead us astray to the hotel, so be mindful of that. Dining note: We ate at Ike's Pizza in downtown Middlesboro. I recommend it. Overall, a decent stay. I would recommend staying here if you're on a budget. Was this review helpful?

Our family is…read moreoriginally from Caryville, and I've stayed at this hotel many, many times, over the past several years when we have come down to visit family. The entrance and the hallways are filled with local historical photos, news clippings & ephemera, antiques, old farming equipment, classic cars, and tons of other things to look at. The llamas outside are a certainly a unique feature, and are quite endearing to watch. The rooms are very comfortable, many with lovely balconies and views of the lake. Those that look out to the back of the property offer an occasional glimpse of the llamas grazing on the land surrounding the hotel. Linens and towels are always top notch and freshly laundered. Occasionally I have had small issues with noise from neighbouring rooms, but usually when families with children are staying in them. Normally I sleep well and am not disturbed by other customers. The breakfast has been really well done the times when I have been there. A great selection of standard hot and cold items. Copious amounts of tea and coffee. I can't recommend it highly enough if you're coming to the area and want a great hotel without the crazy price tag that some local resorts might charge.

Courtney and Travis made sure we did not miss out on our fresh cookies. Only complaint was the old dank scent which is simply the age of the Inn. We were towed to the TML, where we met Patrick, the posterchild for what every business owner and service professional should strive to be. As soon as we were settled into our room, he drove us to the local grocery store. When we mentioned that our room didn't have a coffee maker, he brought a new one to us, with a bag of coffee packs (unopened). The following day he drove us to the local U-Haul lot and waited for us to make sure that the box truck and vehicle dolly we rented had no issues. We were treated like we were the only customers on earth. The room was clean. Granted, it wasn't the same room that other fancy hotels have, but there were no insects, no mold, and a new heat and air unit that kept us very warm. It was the best sleep I had had in a week, and the night before, we had stayed at the Inn at Christmas Place in Pigon Forge. The Tazwell Motor Lodge had a more comfortable bed! The water was hot, the free HBO was entertaining, and the local pizza shop delivered to the room, and was delicious. If we ever have the opportunity to be in the area again, and need a room, the TML is a no brainer! If you find yourself there, do not hesitate to meet one of the best people you will ever run across, and enjoy an authentic slice of how customer service used to be, PURE GOLD! *backroads... stupid autocorrect
