The shop is really small and there was only one woman working. Definitely a cozier space than I'm used to, but it was great for a fill! My feet are always so dry, due to diabetes, and for years I've been going to this and that salon hoping to find one that would take the time to get all of it off. No matter what process they used, I not had good results. Star Nails was thorough, completely turning my dry feet into soft pink skin. She fixed my bad nail job from the place near Fred Meyer. And gave me a super design that I've been getting compliments on all day long, every where I go. My nails are perfectly shaped, perfect thickness. Let's not forget about my eye brows, THAT WERE CROOKED, like the left being almost 1/2 inch HIGHER than the right. " thanks nail salon by Fred Meyer for the uneven eyebrows!" And here I believed that's just how it was going to be, must be my face. "Tiger" did I mention she was the owner and sole employee? I make my appointment but then call and tell them I will be running late, and ask if there will be any issue. She says no that's fine and to come over. As soon as I get there, parking is already very hard to get into considering it's a tiny lot with multiple businesses and she only had about two parking spaces for her nail salon. I go up to the door and it's LOCKED. I attempt to call but no answer so I start walking away and she opens the door while chewing with her mouth open to ask "What I want" she did NOT greet me, just proceeded to ask to look at my hands and look me up and down. I told her I made the appointment and wanted to get a fill done. I ask if she still has time and she says yes and to take a seat. She starts commenting on my nails saying that they aren't the size I told her, and some other things mumbled I didn't comprehend. At this point I didn't feel comfortable anymore. She was already trying to rush and shoo me away. Telling me they close at 5pm and have other appointments but it was 4:05 at the time. Plenty of time for a fill. I went in for a basic manicure and pedicure, and during the process, the technician pulled out a drill file. I specifically asked not to have my nails drilled, as I don't like the potential damage it can cause--especially since I was only getting regular polish. She explained that the tool was for my cuticles, not the nail surface, and asked if that was okay. Since I haven't had my nails done in about six months and am not an expert, I agreed. During the cuticle work, I did feel some discomfort and mentioned that it felt warm around my cuticles. She adjusted her pressure slightly after that, which I appreciated. However, during the next 72 hours, my nails became increasingly sensitive, especially to heat--like when washing my hair or doing dishes. After doing some research, it seems this may have been a version of a "Russian manicure." My cuticles are now very tender, and my nail beds still feel sore. Additionally, one of my nails chipped and another cracked just a few days later. I know that regular polish doesn't last as long, so I'll take some responsibility there, but I expected at least a week before any noticeable wear. On the positive side, the technician was very kind and the salon itself was clean and welcoming. That said, the discomfort and sensitivity I'm experiencing make it unlikely that I'll return. This was definitely a learning experience for me--next time, if a drill is involved in any way with cuticle care, I'll politely decline.

However, they did not use proper builder gel -- they used builder gel polish, which is much weaker. As a result, my nails are already bending. There are also visible bubbles throughout the gel, and they didn't fully remove the previous polish underneath. You can actually see the old polish seeping through the new set, which is unacceptable for a professional service. I paid expecting proper builder gel application and quality work, and unfortunately that's not what I received. I would not recommend if you're looking for true builder gel or long-lasting results.
