Have I had better low grade fried seafood before? Yes. Is KT's seafood that bad? Not by a long shot. For a small town restaurant that offers up fried comfort seafood, KT's does a respectable job. Coming in, you'll notice that the place is in need of an update as it is still stuck in the late 80's early 90's. I dont' mind it too much, but the many decades of grime and grease are starting to show (and smell) The menu is rather vast - (Not hard to fry everything up) and I was immediately drawn to the sub $10 big bowl of gumbo. The gumbo had a decent taste, full of flavor. But unfortunately, it wasn't the correct flavor that a gumbo is to have. It had a lot of shrimp, vegetables, okra and I was still satisfied with the help of a buncha hot sauce added. My friends got their 2 fish fillet + Shrimp combo and majority of the plates weren't finished with the healthy portion of seasoned fries. KT's is overall just OK. Food quality isn't the best - but respectable. Food Quantity is pretty good for the value you pay. KT's is going to be my mom and pop place to go to whenever I'm at Rusk. However don't expect much. read more

This is a pleasant surprise in Rusk, Texas, a quaint East Texas town with limited eateries. The fish is very good. The stuffed crab, obviously not homemade, has an nice taste and texture. My granddaughter's hamburger was perfectly cooked. If we get a chance to visit again, I would like to try the gumbo. If they could provide homemade tarter sauce and red sauce, that would really make them shine. I hope the area residents help keep this place going. read more

A former "Grandy's" location. Nice dinning room, excellent service and friendly wait staff. I had the Chicken Fried Steak and my wife had the Chicken Fried Chicken - both with salads and mashed potatoes. My salad had nice wedge tomatoes in a fresh garden mix, the chicken fried steak was tender with a nice chicken crunch under the fabulous with creamy gravy. My wife was happy happy happy with her meal as well. She almost licked her plate. Great meal on a cold February night. read more

I was drawn into the restaurant by the sign out front reading "Best Cajun Gumbo". I LOVE gumbo... without okra. I know that most people probably prefer that their gumbo contain okra, but it's a deal breaker for me, so I can't comment on the gumbo. I did order some fried shrimp and fish. Well I have given this place a rating, twice, in the last 8 years or so but as the only other choices of food in this town are all fast food chains I gave this place another chance to disappoint and it did. The staff is, and always has been, polite and courteous even though they work for some of the meanest most tight-fisted people in town. And it is with the owners and the food they put out where in my disappointment lies. As I have said in prayer reviews the only difference between the large shrimp and the jumbo shrimp is how deeply they butterfly and how flat they squash the shrimp in order to make them appear bigger so they can charge you more money for them. The salads are horrific, a few little pieces of lettuce, one grape tomato and some goofy bottle dressing. The slaw is disappointing on every level although the fries are usually hot and fresh. I will say that the catfish is usually tender, fresh and quite tasty. It's in every other thing that leaves the kitchen for the place falls flat on its face. They offer fried rice and if you choose the vegetable fried rice, even though the only vegetables that come in the rice or white onions, you are given the choice of adding other vegetables such as broccoli. Now mind you, the vegetable fried rice is already $12. Which in my opinion, is a fairly hefty price for vegetable fried rice especially when it's done as poorly as theirs is. But, should you get desperate enough to order it be prepared to Shell out an additional $3 should you want, oh let's say, broccoli in your fried rice. Because each additional vegetable is $3 each. And as they're vegetable fried rice comes with virtually no vegetables that could very quickly add up. And it would still be a total waste of money as the fried rice is so greasy it coats your mouth every time you try to take a drink to wash it down. It is virtually tasteless, very hard, overly greasy and avoid a vegetables. I ordered the shrimp fried rice so it was hard, virtually tasteless, totally colorless, greasy and had the addition of about 10 or 12 infinitesimally small shrimp. Yes it was every bit as bad as I just made it sound. However I fed it to my chickens and they quite liked it. I was also desperate enough to give their gumbo another chance. On their sign out front they boast best Cajun gumbo. The sign is a horrific lie. My mother was a coonass so I know gumbo but these Asians do not. It is, as it was the last two times I tried it, aroo with massive amounts of celery and a pathetic few tiny little shrimp that were totally unable to impart any flavor to the gumbo. They're gumbo is, in essence, celery gumbo garnished with tiny shrimp. Their steaks are frozen, then, and poorly cooked as it is very difficult to take something that thin and not cook it to death. The place is an utter disappointment that stays in business because it isn't a Dairy Queen a McDonald's or Whataburger or Taco Bell. And those are your other choices of food in town. It is also located on a major intersection so once again it stays in business. But it does so on location location because there's nothing redeeming about the place. Do yourself a favor and drive to anywhere else if you actually want to enjoy a meal. Several miles up the road in Jacksonville there are barbecue restaurants and a couple of disappointing Mexican food places but at least the owners are not so tight fisted that they give you celery soup and call it gumbo read more

We were camped at the local KOA campground this weekend and I decided to try this restaurant. I must say I was totally surprised at how good the food was in this little community town.I am a native of Louisiana and know Cajun food. These people can do it. I got the fish, shrimp and a stuffed crab that was absolutely out of this world. You need to try it. The hospitality was great. If you've never tried this little restaurant you need to. I don't know what has happened to this place. The owners went on vacation about a month ago and from what I have heard they did not give their employees any notice, just hung them out to dry with no job. The seafood here is ok, I usually order the catfish dinner and it's not too bad. My biggest complaint is that they charge extra for hushpuppies when it should be included in the price of a seafood or fish dinner. The menu prices are rather expensive for the portions that you get and sometimes the service is slow. Since this is the closest seafood restaurant in the area without having to drive more than an hour, it's the best choice if you want seafood in Rusk. read more

I love this place! We are lucky in such a small town to have a good place to eat seafood. I do not understand how anyone would give them a bad rating because I have not had one bad experience. Of course it is a small town restaurant so you can't expect that the seafood is coming straight from the ocean but it is as good as it can be for this area and if you look at the parking lot at noon you can see that this place is very loved! I usually order the shrimp and catfish plate and you get huge shrimps and plenty of fish. I have also splurged and ordered the grilled rock lobster tails- it was pricey but when you have craving for lobster, you gotta go for it. My son loves the chicken fried rice. Super friendly service. Food has been wonderful with the 2 times I've been there. But there was a dead/roasted large spider on the crawfish platter I was eating out of. Luckily the spider was boiled with the crawfish, so I wasn't too disgusted. But I did stop eating of the platter after I saw the insect. read more

Wow! Dumbfounded and disappointed. Saw the reviews and really wanted to try this place. My husband pulled in here while a ran across the street to get my boy Whataburger. I know, but that's his thing. However, we never got a chance too. While my husband was waiting for me to return, the owner came out and told my husband to leave that it was his property. When my husband explained he was just waiting for me to return from across the street, he told him to go wait over there. No way would I support someone with such rudeness or thoughtlessness towards others. Very saddening. read more

We came down from the Dallas area and stayed over at the Rusk KOA. KT's was recommended for Service and Sea food. This place is not good, ITS Great. We had a couple bowls of the gumbo along with the grilled Shrimp and Scallops with the dirty rice and vegetables. Finally someone that knows how to cook vegetables. They were perfect as was the Fresh blackened shrimp and scallops. Mel our waitress knows how to have a conversation with people and made great recommendations. This is a small place and the location is not rigging the Google map. It is located at 69 and main. The food is very good. The Service was also good. My family and I loved this place when they first opened. Now this place is not. The crawfish etouffee had lots of crawfish but now maybe 12 tales if you are lucky. The hamburgers are not fresh. They are frozen patties that are over cooked and dried out. The boiled crawfish has no season and sticks to the inside of the shells. The last two ribeye steaks where half fat. I don't know if it is a new cook or what. The place is small with only about a dozen tables. If you want to add shrimp, scallops or fish to a meal they want to charge you for a whole other meal at the same price. They will not give substitutions on any meal. read more

This place is no-frills but has excellent food and a friendly waitstaff, and that, in my opinion is worth five stars. I had the grilled snapper and shrimp, my husband had the grilled Mahi Mahi and shrimp. Food was cooked and seasoned perfectly, which is saying a lot bc most places over cook fish, and either way OVER season or UNDER season the food. Sides were also good. Steamed veggies, Cajun rice, salad. Everything was very good and fresh. Waitress was friendly and attentive without being annoying. There was a woman in the booth behind us who kept burping loudly, but, this had nothing to do with the quality of the restaurant, although I contemplated moving seats at one point. We were just passing thru this area, so I doubt we will be back soon, but if you're in the area, this place is great! read more
