This is my wife and my favorite seafood restaurant in Palestine Texas. Small family owned and ran, yes Mama is in the kitchen cooking! The service is great, very attentive to make sure drinks never run dry. The food is great! Good quality and taste, always cooked to perfection. My wife enjoys the Grilled Salmon and I always order the Jumbo Fried Shrimp. My grandson has ordered the Cheeseburger and the Chicken sandwich, he was very pleased with both. We simply loved our experience here. My husband and I were visiting a client and they requested Mama Seafood for lunch. Wow! Were we ever impressed !?!? I will be honest and say that I would pass on the gumbo next time but absolutely everything else was spectacular! I think I was the only one who did not think the gumbo was divine. A matter of personal preference I suppose. The standout to me was the catfish etoufee. It was beautifully executed and had a really nice complexity of flavors. The service was top notch and I could not possibly have expected a cleaner restaurant located in what appeared to be an old drive-in restaurant with ancient interior finishes. Very good fish and seafood for an off coast family owned business, I keep going back. The fried fish is great. The fried shrimp is lightly battered in the tempura style perfectly done and is as good as anyone's. You will not get this meal for a better price anywhere. read more

Non-descript, repurposed building did not beckon me inside. I remember asking my wife how seafood could be any good in this place. But, choices are limited in Palestine, Tx. So, non-descript, non beckoning building it was. Boyyyy was I pleasantly surprised! Mama, whomever she is, has earned my admiration. From the Cajun trifecta gumbo, to the tempura shrimp with a slight tease of garlic, from the grilled salmon to the buttermilk and cornmeal fried catfish and all the way to the velveted grilled shrimp, everything was on point! Flavor, texture, freshness, all were present and more than accounted for. The meal was an enjoyable delight and definitely way better than I could have imagined. Service was quick and efficient. The place was not packed but it was a very early dinner for us, after 4 hours of driving and then a couple more antiquing. Prices are on par or slightly lower than other fusion seafood joints in the San Antonio area (where I'm from) so all good on that front. Clean restrooms were the cherry on top! If I have a piece of advice it's this: I'd ditch the bottled ranch, it tastes bottled and stands out for it's mediocrity. I would have eaten the salad, no problem, except for the bottled ranch. One of the rare places in Palestine with actual edible food. I ordered the blackened? Maybe grilled? Flounder, scallop and shrimp combo. Very flavorful. But my goodness, did they really have to cut the scallops in half? Tiniest (though very delicious) pieces of scallop ever. The steamed veggies and hush poppies side were also delicious. Never actually been to the restaurant as I ordered via Doordash. But I drive by it often enough. Looks like your run of the mill middle of nowhere mom and pop. Final grade: B Probably will be one of my very very few go to spots when I travel out here for work. Food in Palestine is "challenging". Lol read more

We stopped in on a drive from Bullard to Willis. I ordered fried pickles, fried jumbo shrimp, onion rings and salad. I am a great fan of fried pickles. They were the best ones I have ever eaten. The batter was so perfect. It adhered to the chips and every single one was perfect. I almost ordered another one, but then the shrimp and onion rings arrived. They were also excellent. The owner waited on us and was so cheerful and kind. Palestine is so lucky to have MaMa's!!!!! AMAZING! This place wasn't busy when we arrived a few minutes after five but when we left there were only two empty tables. Lots of local folks. I had the grilled shrimp with veggies, no rice, a baked potato, and coleslaw. My husband & dad had fried fish and shrimp with fries and coleslaw. My mom had stuffed grilled flounder, with veggies, rice, and a salad. It was all really, really, really great. We are from out of town and are only in for a couple of days. side salad is mainly lettuce with one tomato slice. The boiled shrimp was expensive for what we got. I can buy the same exact shrimp at the grocery store much cheaper. The stuffed salmon was mediocre, I make it better at home. The best food was the steamed vegetables.The sweet tea was good. Those two items gave it a 1 star from me. The table was sticky. The bathroom wall had never been cleaned by the light switch, dirty spot of peoples hands turning the light on or off. No one ever picked up our dirty dishes after the appetizer then served us our entre. When we paid the dirty dishes were still on our table, we even stacked them to make it easy. No one picked up any of it till we left. The filthy carpet at the entrance should of been a red flag. Disappointed since this had a 4.5 star rating and so many good reviews. It started out good. We had high hopes. We waited over 30 minutes for our food. I ordered 6 large shrimp with fries and hush puppies my husband ordered the scallops with dirty rice vegetables and coleslaw. I got 5 medium shrimp with one large. His vegetables were mostly onions the coleslaw lacking flavor and there was nothing dirty about the rice but he said it have a decent flavor. Our food was warm at best. We will not be returning. So good!! We stopped in for lunch, since we haven't been here before. We ordered the combination fried rice as an appetizer, then the coconut shrimp & fried fish/shrimp/crawfish tails for our meal. The fried rice would have fed two people as a meal on its own, and was very tasty! The coconut shrimp was yummy too! We had fried large and jumbo shrimp both cooked perfectly. The coleslaw wasn't too sweet, loved it. Stuffed crab was yummy. Gumbo great !!! We went to the drive thru and it was 6:00pm. We were visiting from out of town. We almost went to Sonic and then saw this place nearby our hotel. We decided to try it. The staff were very friendly and regularly checked on us to make sure everything was good. The portions were huge for the price and the food was delicious. Everyone enjoyed their orders. What a pleasant surprise! Around this area, I have been disappointed by subpar seafood, but I was pining for fried oysters and heard about this place. I ordered fried shrimp and oysters. The seafood was so fresh with excellent crisp batter that was not greasy. Delicious! My baked potato had real bacon pieces - not those awful fake bacon bits. My salad was good - crunchy ice cold iceberg lettuce with a large wedge of tomato. My husband loved his onion rings too. Friendly, fast service - good people. Excellent family restaurant. Disappointing fried oysters were tiny like they had been cut in half and were undercooked. Took 45 minutes to get our dinner. They give drive thru preferential service. Salad was iceberg and although fresh and crisp, it was a very small amount, maybe a cup's worth, if that and one small slice of overripe tomato. The coleslaw was so so, but for $13 for 6 shrimp, 6 oysters, salad and coleslaw, I felt cheated. I certainly expected more of this place. Onion rings were good but very greasy. Shrimp were also small and undercooked. Spent $35 with tip but won't go back because I expect value and to get what I pay for, in other words, I should leave satisfied and not still hungry. I think the undercooked food upset my stomach as I didn't feel well later and next day. Sad to wait so long for meals to arrive and then have the tiny oysters and shrimp practically raw. Maybe I expect too much from a small town, but the prices are way too much for the quantity and quality of food. read more
