We've been coming here for years and always love the food and atmosphere! My son particularly loves the jägerschnitzel - highly recommend.

I don't remember the name for the homemade chips with fresh lump crab meat, bacon, cheese, old bay seasoning and Sriracha sauce but they were freaking amazing. The combination of flavors and textures. I could have eaten another plate. These are NOT to be missed - a must in my book. And I will for sure have them again the next time I'm in LBI. read more

I thought this was an excellent restaurant. I stopped by here for some lunch on a Saturday. This was a few months ago, but it was nice weather and the outside was open, so I sat outside to eat. I ordered the Lobster Lover combo meal. This came with a lobster roll, cup of lobster bisque soup, and chips. Everything was delicious. The lobster tasted so fresh. It melted in your mouth. It was the perfect amount of meat on both the sandwich and in the soup. I couldn't decide on which i liked better. That's how good both items were. Loved the mayo spread used into the lobster roll sandwich. And that bisque was just what I was looking for that day. Highly recommended. read more

Food was great and the ambiance was perfect. We sat in the bar at a table and had a blast. Kubels is always a spot for us. Wish I took pictures of the food. Crab and shrimp quesadilla was awesome. Seeing the lighthouse lit up at night is an added bonus when you're leaving. read more

We like dining here, it's historical and in a quieter area, you can walk to the Lighthouse and the beach. The food is good and they always have specials even during the off season. I celebrated a Birthday here and their crème brûlée was delicious. read more

At the end of LBI, in the shadow of the Barnegat lighthouse is a restaurant established in 1927 which is kind of an institution, with the Bay practically across the street. It's got a full service bar and a decent selection of beers on tap. I sat indoors, although there is plenty of seating made for summer nights. I had the clam chowder which was OK. The dishes all come with a small salad.which was fresh. For my entree I ordered the Jagerschnitzel pork cutlets which had a flavorful mushroom sauce, spatzle and red cabbage. The meal was very good, but I found the red cabbage inedible. Blah! read more

We went Easter Sunday was cold and rainy Staff was so amazing very friendly took our reservation and was able to adjust when our plans changed -gave us a nice booth with view of the bay. Fireplace was on and made it very cozy with the fog and rain outside Our server was excellent. The only downside was the food. The side salads were small and lacked anything interesting -only one tiny baby tomato out of two salads! The New England clam chowder was ok not as many clams as I was hoping but thick and hot. My husband ordered the steak and crabcake,-steak was very good done to a nice med rare - crab cake was okay lot more filling than crab for me -butter sauce for the steak was soooo good ! I got grilled salmon and mashed- the mashed potatoes lacked flavor and the salmon was very overcooked and dry that was seriously disappointing for a jersey shore restaurant - but we will go back just maybe stick to more bistro food offerings read more

New England clam chowder was corn starch with rubber bands, a gloopy mess. crab pie was pieces of canned crab under a piece of puff pastry???? fish tacos were fried fish beyond recognition. chicken special was unrecognizable chicken under overdone pasta and out of the can artichokes. burger was good though, so I guess they are on par with McDonald's. read more

Service from Eva (her 3rd summer with Kubel's) was wonderful and me and my man got a prime spot - a table overlooking the Bay. So nice. Fresh seafood and crabcakes. Pricey? Yes. Touristy? Yes. (Come off season! They are open year round). Worth it? Yes! read more

Food was ok and waitress service was very good but the getting a table was horrible experience. Site indicated no wait so wait list wouldn't allow you to list name and since don't take reservations n was a Monday slow night didnt expect to be an issue. Go there hostess indicated didnt need to be added to wait list but due to only one person available to seat you would have to wait n we indicated when asked to sit inside as sun and heat intense on outside seat. After we watched people come before n after us be seated finally asked is again in or out I was strongly indicated inside but not only put us outside but in the direct sun with a table no umbrella. I asked for another table n moved but still in sun making dinner a bad experience as didn't put shade down to make life better as we watched others be asked t be moved, been here before but last time for me on a slow night to be treated like this read more

One of the last days of our LBI summer here and we scored an outside table watching the sunset! What a special time and delicious food here at Kubel's - a family fave! Great drinks and food all around. Perfect family place whether for lunch or dinner. We came for dinner this time with the 5 of us - my dad, husband and two 13yos so we needed a lot of food (as always!). Starters included pretzels with beer cheese (yum!) and likes it so much we ordered another! Got the spicy cauliflower bites and beef sliders. Daughter ordered the Italian combo: eggplant rollatine with chicken park and meatball over linguine - and if you think that sounds like a lot, it was (took home leftovers!), son ordered lobster roll which was generous portion also. I had the chicken & crab (chicken francaise with lump crabmeat on top with spinach, dad had the fish tacos, and my husband has the appetizer portion of chili and lobster bisque. We didn't have any room for dessert but went for a stroll and then went to wait in line at Poppy's ice cream just around the corner! You'll want to make sure you come to the North side of LBI if you're seeing Old Barney lighthouse or Biking Village shops! read more

Was seated for dinner quick however sat for 5-7 minutes when hostess came over to apologize, said sever would be by soon. Ordered scallop dinner and seafood trio w/linguini. Scallops were more like poached, trio seafood's lobster tail was rubbery so was overcooked. Both needed more seasoning. Just be ware these are very high priced dishes and have seen similar much less expensive. Was a 1st time visit so there may be better options but will go somewhere else for our anniversary. read more

Great local restaurant and pub off the boulevard. The only thing I would change is the no reservations policy, as the place is packed during prime time eating hours. The food is very good, but can vary based on what you order. The seafood is fresh and delicious. My wife thinks their burger is the best on the island, and we have been to almost every restaurant on the island, so that is saying something. They pour a delicious Guinness too if you are looking to match a stout with your oysters. Service is friendly and what you get for a mid range restaurant. Alot of the wait staff are high school and college aged kids that try their best. If you are the type that can't enjoy your food without feeling special with white glove service, than this is not the place for you. If you want to meet some locals, have some good seafood and a tasty drink, then this is the place for you. Prices are on the higher side, but not for the island. Everything here is "vacation" priced, so don't expect the same pricing ad your home town. However, it is reasonable for the island and the quality of the food they serve. Always a treat to sit at the bar and chat with the owner, who works his butt off. However, the bar is undersized for the restaurant and usually packed. I definitely recommend a visit to Kubels and if you go, be sure to read the history of Kubel and his beer drinking dog on the walls surrounding the bar. Alot of cool vibes here. read more

We went to Kubel's for the first time on 9/16/2023, as it was close to our rental house and seemed like a good low key choice for our first night. Got seated right away in the dining room and had drink orders taken. We ordered appetizers - French onion soup for my husband and a cup of lobster bisque for me. The French onion soup was fantastic! Rich beef broth and lots of cheese, just how my husband likes it. The lobster bisque was...terrible. It looks like pudding, it was far too thick, it was bland and not anything like lobster bisque should be. I knew it was lobster bisque due to the one solitary piece of lobster suspended in the thick goo. Salads came with the meal and were fine. We had to ask for bread in order to get it. Meals came while we were still eating salads, huge pet peeve. Oh the meals. It took a major turn to nasty town at this point. My husband's beef stroganoff was supposed to be "tender beef tips" but they were chewy and had a gross flavor. The sauce on the pasta was terrible and flavorless. He tried adding salt, but it was still inedible. He took a couple bites and left the rest. My "paella" was not in fact paella. Paella is a specific dish always prepared the same way, with saffron turning the rice yellow, and cooked in a pan until the rice is crispy. This was some sort of seafood stew in a soupy tomato broth with white rice mixed in. The scallops and shrimp were over cooked. It was all entirely flavorless. Not at all what I anticipated and not a good surprise. And not at all worth $38. Service was good. They didn't appear to be short staffed, as some other places on the island are in September. Lots of staff, everyone hustling. Our server was good, I actually feel bad for her that she spends her day serving people this terrible food. Our total before tip was $124, which is insane given the lack of quality in food preparation. This food was terrible, other than the French onion soup. They want to charge upscale prices, but serve subpar food. Stick to burgers or something like that if you must go here. Not sure why they offer items on the menu that they clearly can't execute. It's not like I special ordered something that they've never made before, these were menu items ordered as is with no modifications. And, the guy who sat with us told us the specials were "where it's at" and we had to try them. Falser words were never spoken. I'd never go there again. read more

Great Jersey Shore Bar & Restaurant. Food is fresh, seafood local and always great choices & specials. Bar is old fashioned & welcoming , the dining rooms cozy , wood paneled with a 2 sided fireplace and lots of sunlight in the back room for great sunsets. The wait to be seated was much longer than expected. We were told we would receive a text when our table was ready, but after waiting, the hostess mentioned we should have told them we were there--something that was never explained to us. Once seated, the service was very slow. A kids' mac and cheese and a burger took almost an hour to arrive. Our waitress served food to other tables that arrived after us, and when our meals finally came, they were cold--likely because they had been sitting out after our waitress forgot to pick them up. We even had to ask another waiter for ketchup because ours forgot to bring it. While the food itself might have been good if served fresh, the slow service, cold meals, and feeling overlooked really took away from what could have been an enjoyable meal. read more

Fantastic food and friendly service. Had stuffed flounder (from the dinner specials menu) which surpassed all expectations. The fish was super fresh and prepared so well I thought that I was in a French, Michelin starred restaurant. Crabs cakes were also phenomenal, perfectly cooled and presented . We ate at the bar but the hostess and bar staff were gracious friendly and professional. Kubel's is a gem. Sorry to see they closed Kubel's II on the south end. read more

Ordered fish tacos off the lunch special menu... they did not disappoint. The order came with three... each crispy fried piece of fish was nestled on a bed of slaw and topped with more veggies and a yummy sauce. The soft taco shell was extra fresh... we will definitely be returning! read more

A nice break from seafood, which is great most places. Go for a later dinner so you won't have to wait long! Interesting that many reviews mention the rude hostess - we had the same experience! Straight up rude - for no reason. Girl, if you don't wanna be there, just don't be there! You're hindering the business (and damn, during busy season, yikes!). Not a good look / first impression upon arrival. *only* reason for the star off, terrible first impression from the rude, inaccurate host. *****Shouldn't have to talk about how rude the host was while deciding on a drink order.
