Kudzu Seafood knocked it out of the park. The absolute star of the show was the fire-grilled oysters with garlic & parmesan. The charcoal grill gives them a flavor that's completely different from typical baked oysters... smoky, buttery, and ridiculously good. If I could do it over again, I'd honestly just order multiple dozens of these and call it a day. Our next favorite was a special appetizer our waitress recommended: Jambalaya Fries loaded with andouille sausage, shrimp, and a beautiful cheese sauce/gravy. It was rich, savory, and one of those dishes where every bite gets better. We also tried the other baked oyster varieties: * Oysters Rockefeller (spinach, parmesan & provolone) * Oysters Royale (shrimp, tasso cream & provolone) * Oysters Kudzu (bacon & pimento cheese) Ranking them after the fire-grilled: Rockefeller, then Kudzu, and lastly Royale. I have been to Kudzu many times. This is my go to restaurant for cajun. Never had anything bad here. Fried oysters are great. A favorite go to is Captain's filè gumbo. I get it with a side of rice as I like more rice than they have in the dish. Highly recommend. read more

I ordered the shrimp and grits dish. I liked the flavor of the shrimp and the overall flavor of the dish but the grits seemed a little underdone. Grits can be tricky like that so I didn't give them a hard time about it. However, I wouldn't order this dish again if I was in the area. Pleasantly surprised by Kudzu Seafood! We stopped in around 8 and grabbed seats at the bar to share one of their seafood plates. While we don't typically go for fried food, we decided to give it a try--and it did not disappoint. The plate came loaded with catfish, grouper, shrimp, and fries--crispy, flavorful, and definitely shareable. Next time, I'm looking forward to trying their grilled options. Visiting Macon because my Son was wrestling in the State competition. We wandered here and the food was yummy. The waiter was nice and suggested the Snapper meal to me. Went in with a friend just before 8pm on a Thursday night. Got seated promptly , server said she'd be with us. But then waited almost 25mins for service. So much so the hostess came and asked if we'd ordered or wanted drinks! We were about to walk out when the server appeared.! Limited options as we noticed most places close at 9. Great gulf food in GA Service and food were excellent! The gumbo was just right. Not too salty. Lots of shrimp and andouille sausage. The crawfish boudin balls could be a meal itself. Buffalo shrimp was just ok. Good portions. But I was also saving room for shrimp and grits. A must when in Georgia. It was good, but only negative was that the shrimp were not cleaned. I've never had to clean them out myself at the table. It might be a personal preference but it's rare to me to get a shrimp dish where the shrimp are not cleaned. My family & I stopped by Kudzu Seafood Company in Macon over the weekend for a late lunch. It was a first time visit for us. Stephanie was our waitress & she was nice & helpful. I enjoyed my meal. I ordered the Seafood Basket (fried grouper, shrimp, & oysters. I wanted catfish but they were out) with a side of creamed spinach. The grouper, shrimp, & oysters were cooked to perfection & everything tasted fresh & delicious. The creamed spinach was decent and there was a random broccoli stem in it. The restaurant was cold inside to me. The decor, for the side we sat on, was okay. Parking was pretty good. It's street parking & you pay for the time you think you'll be there. Parking was very reasonably priced. What I did NOT like (nor did I know at the time) is that they charge a 2% surcharge for using your credit card. Not sure if this is listed on the menu but I did not see it. For my meal it was only half a dollar but it could be more depending on your order. You're also taxed on the surcharge. So if you have cash, use it. I had planned to use cash but thought the card would be quicker. I also like to have an even total on my bill, with tip added, & this extra charge threw off the total on my bill. When I signed the receipt, it was an even $34.00. Spent the night in Macon on our way to Florida. Macon's downtown area is all lit up in lights after Thanksgiving. Anyway went to Kudzu Seafood and it was some of the best seafood we have ever had. We started with oysters Bienville (came with a grilled lemon to squeeze on them and horseradish, yum) and then shared the Pappas fried combination platter. The downtown Macon area has really improved over the last few years and Kudzu Seafood Company is a very nice spot to check out. Nothing fancy but a good spot before heading to a show at the Macon City Auditorium. The food was tasty & presented well. We started with the grilled oysters on the half shell which were done nicely & topped with parmigiana cheese & lemon juice. The oysters were from Louisiana and were a nice size & were cooked spot on! I had the Jambalaya as my entree & my wife had The LGC (lobster grilled cheese) which my dish was an ok jambalaya as the rice was kind of dry but did have ample amount of seafood. The LGC on the other hand was delicious as there wasn't anything left on my wife's plate. The service was good and there is a good supply of beer choices though limited on draft. I've never had fried crab claws before and I thought they were perfect! The breading wasn't too much and it was really easy to eat all of the meat off of the claws. Had the house oysters they were very good! Papa's fried seafood platter the grouper was amazing the oysters were good, plenty of large shrimp but they weren't very crispy leaning towards soggy. Stick to the grouper basket. Scallops with cheese grits and Tasso. The scallops were good if you serve grits w cheese on top I don't consider that cheese grits, bland the tasso ham was good. The food is great! But whoever is in charge of the radio needs to be reassigned or never handed the sound system responsibility ever again. Sorry to be a weirdo, but please play something different. When I'm eating at a Cajun Seafood joint , I'm expecting fats domino, Alabama to play, or Otis Redding, the Allman Brothers, or something like classic hits. You even have a picture of Elvis and Johnny Cash near the bathroom. I could deal with "Polk Salad Annie" from Elvis, or some Chuck Berry like "Promised Land," where they mention Macon, GA, in an overloaded poultry truck. I would love to hear something like that. The food is great, but God knows what's up with the indie bands on radio in a place that sells seafood. Dec 22, 2023. Our first visit to Kudzu Seafood. We lived in Baton Rouge, LA area for 10 years, and visited New Orleans often. The downtown area was pretty packed due to all the Christmas lights setup. The wait time was 45 minutes. They take your phone number, then send an initial text. When your table is ready you of course receive a followup text. One thing I noticed and thought was a good idea was the option to cancel the reservation via text while waiting if you changed your mind. Our server Stephanie was very helpful, very knowledgeable, and checked up on our table often. We had some firecracker sauce chicken bites on a bed of shredded lettuce. They had extremely good flavor. The lettuce really completed the appetizer. The sauce on it had a slight kick, sweetness and was very flavorful. The bites were very tender with a slight crisp to the breading. I ordered the grouper fish platter with the sides as okra, and fries. The grouper were in finger size pieces. They were cooked perfectly. The okra had quite a few very small pieces in it which were cooked to the point they were pretty much brittle. We had ordered an extra side of okra and they had those brittle pieces as well. The fries had light seasoning on them. The fries reminded me of Checkers fries. My wife had some of the Perdido Key Pasta. I liked the flavor of the pasta and sauce in the dish. The other guest had the crawfish boudin balls. They were about 1.5", and a ball shape. They did have a very nice crawfish taste, they were tender inside, and crisp on the outside, but not to my personal taste is all. I prefer pork boudin balls with rice. My all time favorite is pecan smoked boudin, and I still miss it almost daily from living in Louisiana. All of the staff we engaged with were friendly. read more

I came here because of the reviews and oyster. I am not one to complain about service or food but this experience was I think the worst I have ever had. I went in and the sign said wait to be seated. There were two servers in the back of the dining room rolling silverware and just talking. Finally one acknowledged my presence when another customer who they knew came. I almost left, I probably should have. Once seated the service started ok. I ordered a drink like a rum punch lobster bisque and the recommended tacos trifecta. The drink was ok, soup, small serving even for a cup, taste was ok. The worst and this is what made me write this review was the tacos. I had the oyster, boom shrimp and Mexican taco with fries. I tried a piece of each filling before diving in. The oyster and grouper were cold but it's ok. The fries hot and seasoned well. The shrimp taco over all was good. Then I tried the grouper and oyster taco and I almost got sick. IT TASTED LIKE THE TACO WAS DIPPED IN BACON GREASE. Oh my I can still taste it. So gross! read more

I would call this false advertising since the sauce tasted nothing like lobster and for the most part had no flavor other than just heavy cream. On top of that, both my and my husband's dish came out cold. We also ordered a kids meal for our son and for six dollars he got four shrimp and undercooked green beans, and then we were up-charged for green beans. The service was lackluster and I had to chase the server down for our check while she socialized with the other servers.
