I really liked this dental office and I have been to quite a few over the years. Unlike other…read morereviewers on this page I am actually going to review the business based on ethics, professionalism and sanitation. Not about the location of a bathroom. First and foremost the office appears extremely well kept. I am disappointed with the reading material they offer, each time I visit it is the same magazines. I am tired of reading the same article about Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie. When I was escorted to the back the rooms also looked well cleaned and there were no apparent hazards to my health that made me nervous. The doctors and nurses all appeared to be well groomed and healthy themselves. Secondly, I appreciate that they call back quite quickly, if there are ever any hiccups in scheduling they usually never have to move me but an hour or two around my previously scheduled appointment. They were very clear and upfront about what my insurance covered and what it wouldn't and communicated with me to make sure I consented with the proper x-rays and treatments. Recently, I went in to get my bottom wisdom teeth removed and I am very happy with my experience. The specialist is flown in from Oahu once a month and I really enjoyed his methods and I felt very comfortable.I specifically enjoyed that they didn't require that I was put under for the procedure. This is huge brownie points for me because any doctor that automatically jumps to the conclusion that you need to go under is not a doctor I recommend to anyone. The main reason I gave this establishment 4 stars instead of 5 is because upon my discharge after my wisdom extraction I was not informed of a condition called 'dry socket.' On day four of my healing I was in so much pain that I blew through the pain meds they prescribed me and was still in tears. Thanks to a coworker who told me about the condition which prompted me to google and call back to arrange an appointment to follow up and verify my condition. Sure enough I had 'dry socket' and was immediately seen within the hour by the doctor which was very much appreciated. I felt relief from my pain within 4 hours and had no need to take further pain medication after treatment for the dry socket was completed (appointment took 15 minutes). Overall, I am very happy with this business and I will be a returning client. However, I will take it upon myself to ask a few more questions to make sure I am prepared for anything in the future after any procedures are done. I just wish someone would have told me about potential issues before hand which would have saved me from significant pain.

They also wanted to numb my gums unnecessarily and did extra x-rays. When I later went to Kea'au Family Dental, my insurance did not cover the extra x-rays, and I had to pay $120 out of pocket. I also had to pay a neighbor four separate times to drive me there and back. At Kea'au Family Dental, the exam and cleaning were completed in one visit. This experience felt like over-treatment and unnecessary expenses. Sharing to help others make an informed choice.

(I would have preferred to stand outside the room while they shoot the image and be his advocate since he is a minor. By the time they invited me back the dentist was arriving. When asked how the cleaning went, I was told they don't clean kids teeth (no scaling, polishing or flossing). Then the fluoride treatment was pretty awful looking which they said would fall away over time. Then, I wanted to make my child's next appt with the dentist at a different location since he's only in this office 1 day per week and they insisted since we got established at Prince Kuhio plaza so we had to keep coming back there. (It's a day I work and was an unforeseen circumstance that I could be there on a Monday to begin with. Once we got home, I checked my child's teeth, he still had terrible calcium deposits on the backside of his lower teeth. Then, I called to ask the dentist to do the job he billed the insurance for, and on 2 separate occasions I got put on hold for 7 and then 10 minutes until I hung up because nobody came back to speak with me and no surprise, nobody called me back. My child has been going to the dentist since he was 2 and has had a hygienist clean his teeth every visit, including scaling and flossing. BTW, no Velcro blanket to strap him down either. He's a great little patient. (I know at least one dentist office in Hilo that wont let parents go back with their kid after age 7 and they use restraints if needed...is that even legal?) Hawaii Family Dental billed my insurance, with the EOB stating I may owe $500+. When I called billing they say I owe nothing. Not sure what's going on there... Oh- and it took 6mo or more to even get an appt with Hawai'i Family Dental. Sorry to say- I would NOT recommend this place.

Having braces may not be a pleasant experience but comparable to my brothers orthodontist I am so happy I went to Dr. Yoshida. The office is nice, comfortable, and above all CLEAN and HYGIENIC. They really take the extra step to make sure everything is immaculate so I was able to be worry free. My smile looks great now, i have permanent retainers on both my top teeth and bottom which i had requested, I recommend this as this way you never forget to put a retainer in or clean it, all it is is a small smooth wire on the backs of the front 4 teeth. I really like how they have a big bucket of disposable tooth brushes and tooth paste in the bathroom along with disposable cups and mouth wash so you can always freshen up before and after and I wish my dentist did this too. I recommend Dr. Yoshida to anyone considering getting braces.

The oldest son had his front lower teeth move with the permanent retainer on. Dr Yim said "well nothing is a 100%. And offered to put braces back on at my cost! The younger son lost his retainer. I knew to replace it would be my cost. I called to schedule an appointment and they said they could see him in 6 weeks. What?? Dr Yim would scold him if he wasn't wearing it every day. Now suddenly he can go 6 weeks?!? I pleaded with the receptionist. Nope. Asked to be put on a cancellation list. Never got a call. His teeth moved. He has a gap in his front teeth. I had it break off one time last year (due to eating almonds), then recently another one broke off like nothing while I was consuming shrimp. It took two weeks for him to get back at me. Once I got into the office I asked if instead the built in retainer could I purchase a removable retainer. The secretary in the office was telling me no because it's more expensive, it takes responsibility, teeth shift fast. So I just let it be and they fixed my bottom retainer. Again. Not even a full week later while I was eating mashed potatoes the whole left side of the retainer pops off and the tension causes the right to follow. I called the office and they said they couldn't do anything about the fact "I keep breaking my retainer". When it's obvious the adhesive glue didn't attach to my tooth prior to putting it on.
