The check in got scary. We got there and it was closed! What were going to do-sleep in the car, go find a motel? Finally found a couple that actually live there so it's a resort, hotel and home! The people that run it were in a shopping mall about 1/2 mile away. The pools are not heated. We couldn't open the sliding door in the bedroom. The beds were 20 years old box springs so we had back aches all week. Killed a big cockroach in the bathroom. The stove was filthy and two burners didn't work. I called the office the second day for a sink stopper to wash dishes. It never came! The TV's were hooked up differently so had a man come show us how to use them. The only thing good were the towels! How can a place such as this advertise it is a resort near shopping, close to a nonexistent beach and looks beautiful in the internet? For 5 days that we stayed here, it was such a pleasure to stay on this homey vibe space & if given a chance I would definitely stay here again on the next staycation. Conveniently situated in the town of Kapaa, halfway between Hanalei and Po'ipu, Plantation Hale Suites offer you a comfortable & relaxing environment to stay. It was also spacious and it has a fully equipped kitchen & to be honest it feels like I didn't leave home. What I love the most is the two lanais (one from the living room & the other one is from the bedroom) Amenities: All rooms are smoke-free, high speed internet access, individual climate control & ceiling fans, coffee maker, full refrigerator, microwave, four-burner stove with an oven, flat-screen cable TV, hairdryer, washer, dryer, hot tub, swimming pool & jacuzzi. Surrounding area has a walking distance of a pharmacy & convenient store in minutes, 5min. walk to Coconut Marketplace (multiple eateries & boutiques are here, they got Farmer's Market here too), 12mins. walking distance if you wanna go hit Lae Nani Beach while 16mins. if going to Waipouli Beach. And you got a 13mins. drive going to airport. Pretty convenient right? The staffs here are nice but the people living here were kinda a bit grumpy folks. When we came inside in our unit it was clean and smells nice. We are so lucky that who ever cleaned it really did a good job cleaning it. The cost is not bad at all. This place is an apartment complex, turned into a hotel. So you definitely get a kitchen to cook in. The place was well maintained and clean. The Jacuzzi worked one night, out of 5 nights we stayed. The bathtub looked dirty, but turned out it was cracked and falling apart. The welcoming was rude but the rest of the stay was nice. There was a checklist of items in room. We were missing one of the items. A rubber bathtub mat. Hopefully they don't bill us for that. Next time, we would stay here again. Especially how close it is to walk over and watch the sunrises. read more

When we arrived at front lobby (4pm) there was no one there to check us in. The front offices were locked up. The maintenance man said they go home at 3pm. There is a phone number to call but they are just the central reservation of several hotels. They tried to contact someone but not successful. Their alternative was to offer another hotel!! As for suites, first one assigned was not well kept with holes in the carpet, dirty grout in bathroom, in room safe with lost key, non-operating phone line, very liter TV channels, and 1st floor lanai facing back with heavy street traffic noise. My wife and I spent two weeks in March 2025 at this resort in unit C-8. Had we known that we would have no maid service and had to wash our bath linens, purchase kleenex, toilet paper, paper towels, etc. when we ran out of what was provided, we would not have selected this unit. In addition, the mattresses on the twin beds were horrible. If you're planning on listening to the ocean's surf and not cars and trucks on the highway which is about 30 yards from the unit, this is not the place for you. This property is outdated inside and out. The grounds are ok but a few issues included overflowing trash bins near the pool areas, only one of two hot tubs were operational and in a week I never observed the BBQs being cleaned even once. Location is convenient to shopping and amenities but there is a permanent camp of homeless people across the street - that in itself doesn't have to be an issue but they come into the property to use the outdoor shower and at night we observed the same man loitering in the parking lot for hours on end, so it doesn't feel entirely safe. My real issue is specifically with unit K-14 which is owned and rented by a private owner and offered on a well-known vacation rental platform. The unit was not cleaned when I arrived an hour after check in, and it wasn't ready until over 2 hours later. I was in contact with owner who refused to make any financial accommodation for this inconvenience; her position was that her apology was good enough and I could leave if I didn't like it (right, and forfeit my entire $2500 rental fee?). I escalated the situation to the rental platform and while it took some time and effort on my part they ultimately sided with me and made a partial refund. All that trouble for an outdated unit outfitted with what was clearly two-star hotel furnishings, dirty tile in the kitchen and bathroom, and almost non-existent water pressure in the kitchen. read more

Nope. Do not stay here, UNLESS you are an adventure traveler, or don't have kids, you are REALLY tight on your budget and are tolerant of substandard living spaces. In my case, the bathroom was "gross." (I can't come up with a more diplomatic term.) As you will read in other reviews, the property's management hides under this veil: "Each unit is privately owned, so, unfortunately we have no control over the quality." So, my advice is to not stay here. Let capitalism do its ugly magic. The owners have no impetus to improve if they have consistent income. I understand "some" units have been upgraded. But, in my case, I stepped into a time warp--a San Fernando Valley bachelor pad circa 1974. But it's not just the dated furnishings that detract from Kauai's tropical setting. The space is downright gross. Chipped paint. Soiled carpet. Lumpy seating. But most concerning was the bathtub. (See: pics) The late check-in time was also a hitch in my travel plans. My confirmation said 3pm. When I approached the front desk I was told it is actually 4pm. (My psychic abilities were not functioning when I checked in.) However, my room was not ready until 4:30pm. Simple condon units. We had unit D5 and it was fine for what we needed and more. Located 15 minutes from the airport in Lihue. It is very convenient walking location to a large Country Market and Long's Drugs. There is beach access as well as shops and restaurants nearby. From Bobby V's Italian Pizzeria, Lava Lava Club, and Chicken in a Barrel. The ABC Market has a wide variety of got food and groceries and anything one might need in short walking distance. So location is great and doubly great for seeing the North and South sides as well. Also in the marketplace were some great local crafts shops. Our room was a one bed. We were hoping for a queen but got a double beds room. The room was tired and dated but fine for us. Everything worked, the bath sink was slow in draining but i cleaned the superficial hair and gunk real quick and it was fine. The air conditioner worked well and good water pressure. Full service kitchen, fridge, TVs in both living and bedroom, the room had its own water heater. You collect a safe key and beach towels at the front desk Pleasant front desk. Our room was never made up but we didn't need or want it to be... so we eventually just left the do not disturb sign up eventually. We easily visited the North and South sides of the island from here. Kapa'a and other eateries are 5 minute drive away. Some good places to eat is EatHealthy Cafe for vegetarians and Bobby V's for good pizza and Italian. If you want toes in the sand while you drink and eat, go to Lava Lava Club. Being on the highway side we heard music from blaring cars most nights but with air on it mostly got drowned out and tired from the day's activities so always got sleep. Even with our stompy upstairs neighbors. Would recommend for great central location on island to explore the entire island. Pleasant and acceptable. Never had a problem parking each night. read more

Also, the rooms are disgusting; the floors are gross, the couch and bathroom are both dirty, and there's a sign that says to remove your shoes which I didn't do for obvious reasons. Came here for the first time with my family while visiting Kauai. We booked through Expedia.com because the rates were much lower than anything else that I researched. When we got here to check in, I noticed that you can upgrade your room AND get a 10% discount when you check in on YELP. I was so pumped lol only to find out that it only applies if you book through them and not a 3rd party like expedia.com, priceline.com, kayak.com, etc. Our assigned room was E4 and it was very spacious for my family of 4. They had little areas of the rooms that needed minor repairs, but it did the job. Unfortunately, the flash flood and tornado warning got us locked up spending majority of our vacation in our room plus the whole coronavirus scare. The TVs have basic cable and a dvd player. A lot of lighting, full size fridge and stove plus pots/pans, utensils, dish rack, and cleaning materials. Our room had a king size bed and a sofa bed, nice little patio that led out to the little courtyard with one of those lame sports like cricket or bocce lol. There are 3 different pools and 2 jacuzzis. There are probably other amenities, but we didn't get to explore too much due to the weather. The staff are very nice and helpful. They have unassigned parking stalls available. This place is located across the Sheraton Coconut Resort and the beach. And right next to the Coconut Marketplace where there are restaurants, bar, and some shops are located. I would definitely come back here if we ever visited Kauai again. read more

How could anyone with a conscience let human beings stay in a "crap hole" like this. And this is no exaggeration! Carpet, tile & drapes from 40 years ago, a stove that you would see in a 50's movie and the so-called balcony looks out at bushes you can't see over with the busiest road on the island right behind it...noise all day & night long. You can feel every spring in the mattresses on both beds and the pullout couch is like sleeping on the floor. All I can say is RUN! Faraway. Don't look back & don't pass go! When we first checked in the room it was filthy, sticky old carpet and outdated brown furniture.we had to switch our room and peek at two other rooms before settling for a tolerable one. We wanted to switch hotels but there wasn't anything available due to the busy summer season. One of the days the power went out in the evening for hours, we couldn't do anything, cook, laundry got stuck in the machine until morning cause they lock it at 10 pm. The worker told us parking is free but we were charged for a resort fee, $30 per day I believe but the place isn't a resort , the rooms feel like a motel's rooms. We will never stay here again. The only thing good about this place were the workers, they were kind and helpful. read more

We stayed at Plantation Hale Suites for the week as part of a vacation package we have. We arrived a little early before 3pm to see if we could check in but our room wasn't ready yet and told to come back at 3pm so we went to Long's down the street and when we got back our room was available. The front desk staff was friendly. We were on the 2nd floor in building K with a room that faced the ocean...great!! The condo was clean inspecting it as we entered. There was a kitchen area to the left with a living space with a table straight ahead. The table could fit four people and since it was just the two of us, there was plenty of space. The bathroom was to the right along with the bedroom. There were two beds...felt like fulls..maybe small queens. There is also a nice wide balcony area with two chairs. We couldn't get the cable in the living room to work but no biggie. There are a few things that could be updated but overall, we had a great stay. We just wished they had a broom in the room as with going to the beach, you get sand in your shoes but we managed. There is also a laundry room on the first floor of this building (I believe each building had their own laundry room). We didn't use the pools but there were 3 on the property. There was plenty of parking space near each building - we never had any issues parking. Overall great stay and would consider staying here again. I loved its convenience between the north shore and south/west shore areas. Traffic can get heavy in the area but it's nothing we aren't use to living near the Dallas, TX area. read more

You'll have a more memorable stay in Kauai. The rooms all had stained carpets, peeling paint, cracked sink counter, rusted out shower curtain rod, frayed shower curtain, tub had a hole, tub coating is peeling off, room had a funky smell. The staff was wonderful except some of the younger people could learn how to clean better and relate. I loved the location and one of the two jacuzzis. one was hot the other was malfunctioning at first and later it was barely hot. The room itself was the biggest issue. we gave them two different fix it lists in our 9 day stay. the first was shampooing the rugs as that we could hardly stand. my feet oozed dirt in the shower by just walking on the carpet. Again maintenance was on all things to our satisfaction ( battery in clock, replace moldy drapes and shower curtain, reprogrammed tv, debris in vents you could see but not sure if they got to that.) I would probably stay there again but would check room to make sure it was clean before accepting it. we booked during a holiday week and paid good $. read more

The unit that we stayed in was clean and airy. With that kind of price, I wasn't expect much. But i can say that it was a great stay there. The beds were comfortable, the kitchen well equipped with kitchen tools and cookware. The housekeeper came everyday to change the towels and took out the trash. They even loan me rice cooker and beach chairs. The lanai had great view of the garden. The things that bothered me was because the construction. It covered the beach view and access. We had to go trough either Marriott or Kauai coastal. 0 view of the beach. Also since I stayed on the ground floor, the top floor AC dripped water right on my AC. This was our 2nd trip to the island of Kauai. Last time we stayed in Poipu, but this time we wanted to try this side of the island in Kaapa. Found this property on Expedia with a decent price and looked like a good location. Our was a 1 bedroom with 2 double beds (they were out of King beds when I booked, but it wasn't a big deal), living room area with sofa bed and kitchen. This stay was just for my husband and I. Things we liked: Had a kitchen with full size microwave, oven, stove and fridge. A/C unit and ceiling fans in both the bedroom and living room. Just a quick walk to the Coconut Marketplace which has the Island Market (bigger ABC store) that has some groceries, coffee bar and a deli/food bar. A few souvenir shops, shave ice place and a few small restaurants (which we didn't try). Right next to the beach down a quick pathway. Easy drive to Safeway, Longs Drugs, Big Save and other parts of the island you want to get to. Overall I would say convenience was the key to the place. Things we didn't like (more on our unit E6): The ceiling fans in both bedrooms only sort of worked. It was basically on or off, and when on, it's on high speed. The other lower speeds never worked. The TV in the bedroom didn't work or turn on. The TV in the living room sort of worked, but there were 3 different remotes on the table and we could never figure it out and every time we pressed a button, the stations had a 15 sec delay on changing. For the stove, the big front burner didn't work, so we had to use the back burners and the front little burner. The knifes in the drawers couldn't stab and injure anyone. It wouldn't even slice our tomato. I wanted to cook something in the oven and they tell you if you need a cookie sheet, to just call the front desk and they'll deliver. Well they did, but after I prepped all the food, put it on the cookie sheet to bake, the cookie sheet was waaayyy too big to even fit in the oven. And when I returned the cookie sheet the next day to the front desk and told them it doesn't even fit, she was like "oh, ok". We were staying here a full week, so because of COVID protocols, they don't clean the rooms everyday, you need to schedule if you want the room cleaned, which isn't a big deal for us as we really keep our space clean ourselves, but with this being a hotel by the beach, you'd think they would at least have a broom in the room in the tall cabinets they have, so you can sweep up the sand. Our entryway had sand all over the place. The sofa in the living room looked like it was caved in and people only sat in the middle section of it. The bathrooms was very old looking and very dirty. If I had a baby or toddler that I needed to put in that bathtub, I would not. Wifi is ok, took us a bit to get connected. The connection information is on a small piece of paper on the router box. A bit small. All in all, we had a good stay. Convenient in terms of location, ok in terms of comfortable as we were barely in the room all day because we were at the beach. I think the room needs updating and a deep thorough cleaning. read more

To travelers, if you don't want to encounter the worst travel nightmare, stay away from this property. I couldn't have imagined if i tried how bad a hotel checkin process would go - approaching midnight having spent over half an hour waiting in line plus another 40mins speaking to the front desk who is the ONLY staff on duty at this hotel and at the same time calling the booking website trying to figure out what the room number is. Only to be told by the hotel that as the management of the property they don't know what the room assignment is and it should be attached to the booking confirmation from the booking website - which the booking website has no idea about and I've personally never ever heard of such a check in process. Meanwhile, the group before us had a similar problem which resulted the long wait and apparently some other guests who was locked out of the room kept calling the front desk for the entire hour waiting for someone to help out but evidently running a hotel is a ONE MAN JOB and the only staff at the same time was trying to figure out how to check us in. Ended up having to walk away for the sake of my time and book another hotel in the middle of the night. To the owner of the property - find another general manager to run this hotel. The guy clearly doesn't even know how to find out a room assignment. read more

if i could put zero stars I would! they don't clean your room if you're here for less than a week. we had less than a roll of toilet tissue in the room at check in and had to walk to the front desk to get it because no one could deliver it at the time we asked. they sent a text msg to welcome us and asked us if we needed anything. i said wow yes we need coffee and pool towels please. well they never came and it turns out that that was just their attempt to get me to come down to the front desk so they could swipe my card and charge it $88 more dollars after charging me over $1200 for four nights. DO NOT STAY HERE! My wife and I have been coming to Kauai for 18 years so we know what to expect. We are travelers, not tourists. We had to choose one of three state approved facilities for our 2 week quarrantine between September 15 to 30 and we chose this one because it had a kitchen. Big mistake. All furnishings were circa 1970 and the place was filthy. We found feces stuck to the toilet bowl, dirt and dust not removed in months if not longer. We found used Kleenex and an empty water bottle under the broken mattress. When we removed the sheets for a linen change we found a mattress liner with blood and body fluids on it. The only clean spot on the carpet was were the rain water ran down the inside walls and rinsed the area clean. Keep in mind, this was approved by the state for quarrantine and was supposedly sterlized for our stay! In all fairness the on-site manager, Kaipo, did what he could but no one was allowed in the room because of quarrantine. Worse yet, we were trapped in this place because there was no where else to go at that time. It was a nightmare. read more

My stay here was great as I'm not into staying at resort hotels or hotels for that matter. I prefer low key, peace and quiet when I'm on vacation. We stayed here for 8 days and it was worth every penny we spent on it. We had rented out condo from an owner so it came with a lot of amenities, this might be different if you rent from the management or some other owner. The place was equipped with two TV sets, a lot of towels, beach towels, boogey board, beach chairs, ice box, cooking utensils etc. We could not rent any movies from the main office because we rented from a private owner. This place is located near a very nice marketplace with local shops, mostly typical tourist shopping. There are two nice resorts in the walking distance if you are interested in some nice drinks and spa services. The town of Kapa'a is the most populated town in Kauai, so there are plenty of local grocery stores and shops to purchase your weekly supply of food. It is uniquely centrally located that you will end up driving to any tourist attraction but nothing is too far. The beach that we had access to was not so much fun so we didnt stay there for more than 2 hours. If you are looking for a nice quiet place with central location! This is a right choice. read more

Shower drain very slow, ac keep shutting off, literally we are a oven! 3rd there's no housekeeping after 8 pm. My mother, boyfriend and I planned a trip for a while now. We had an unexpected covid positive and had to post pone our trip for April. We didn't feel safe traveling after our quarantine was over. Plus we live in the Bay Area and cases have been skyrocketing. It didn't feel responsible to just travel right after with cases rising. We tried to post pone our trip on the booking app. I understand we didn't purchase travelers insurance but they have so many underlining fees and this and that. Which I was like okay I understand the cleaning fees and all the other stuff. We payed 1,600 and I called explaining our situation on how we didn't want our money back. We simply wanted to change our dates. That way they still keep the money that was payed when we booked it back in December. But the person on the phone was so un helpful and basically un apologetic to the situation. I understand policies but it's time of Covid and people save the little money they have to take these safe getaways with their loved ones. I wouldn't be mad if I had to pay a little more to secure our future reservation. But they have a very outdated policy and from the looks of it they don't clean their property well at all. Ok, i dont know what is up with plantation hale. But we checked in on Saturday And we checked out today. Day one get informed by security no drinks by the pool. Ok all good the next day fathers day the fuckery starts. Get a call about 11 your children cant be at the pool with out a adult. Ok mind you my 14 year old almost 15 is watching her sibling. I let security know this. He says even if its just her she cant be by the pool must be 18. Ok the rules we got about the pool and are hung up by the pool says anyone under the age of 14 needs parents supervision. Ok then I'm told that my that I have to many people my 5 kids my wife and me. So I fix the problem i rent a extra room for our 3 friends and the whole time hes telling me this the same security that told me no drinks at the pool, he looks at the table at the otherside of the pool full of hydro flask does not tell them anything or even bothers to check if the people with them are on his guest list. At 7pm one of them get a ticket once again i rented another room for them They have a temporary parking pass which says that the vehicle must be off property at 10pm bu they are guest with a room and you ticket they're car at 7 pm. I get I did something's wrong with my friends over but that was it and I fixed the problem so wtf read more

Needed to be on Kauai for work and decided to stay here......but my 1.bdrm suite was not clean. Refeidgerator was filthy on the outside and the top was obviously not touched in quite a while. Found that utensils were also not clean. With the no-smoking policy, i found plenty butts out on my lanai. The website claims "enhanced cleanliness" and "vigilant disinfecting" which I felt the disappointment within the first few minutes upon my arrival to my suite. Highly suggest one travels with ample supply of clorox and lysol if you need to visit. read more

So I'm a mother of 3 which means I'm traveling with toddlers(2 year old) so we plan accordingly. Got here at 4pm because check in was 3pm. They front desk workers are not friendly what's so ever they literally just stared at us, with a dumb look!! Then Our room was not ready, no one gave us a call to let us know. The girl working the front wasn't really apologetic that our room was not ready all she said was they were short staffed!!! Which we totally understand, but then she was like oh you guys can come back, need I remind you she just watched us get dropped off by an Uber with all our bags and car seat. So we ask how long? She replies a few minutes so us thinking a few minutes would be 5-0 maybe even 20 minutes.... Then we check back at 4:40pm come to find out the room was ready and apparently I'm guessing the front desk was too busy to let us know.. All in all we won't be staying here again read more
