Super fortunate to have gone here! On a recent work trip, someone suggested Kuka for dinner. We forgot to make a reservation for the 12 of us. When we got there around 6:30 on a Monday, they were amazing and were able to seat us. We ordered apps, entree's, drinks and dessert. The staff was so accommodating, they were sweet, attentive but not overbearing, helpful and patient with all of us. I was blown away by the garlic parmesan edamame. The curry with pork cutlet was reminiscent of my grandma's. I am picky about Japanese curry. I also ordered the toro sushi and it was phenomenal! Dessert was good but the apps, sushi and curry is where they shine. I would love to go back!
Made a reservation for 7pm on a Friday night. The location is kind of hard to get to if you've never been before. Our uber dropped us off in the back of an apartment building and we walked a short distance to the restaurant. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The restaurant is very loud, we were sat at a high top table and it was kind of awkward being elevated in the middle of the restaurant with lights beaming directly on you.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Ordered a bottle of Sauvignon blanc. It was nice that it arrived in an ice bucket, but was disappointed by the stemless glasses. The service was extremely slow. Had to ask for soy sauce, wasabi and ginger. When someone that was not our server gave it to us, it was basically empty. The sushi was just alright. For the price I would've rather gone somewhere nicer. My roommate and friend did not like their rolls at all (avocado roll and spicy salmon) the spicy tuna was good, pretty hard to mess that up. I would not get the soft shell crab roll again, the roll was big and falling apart immediately. Nobody in our party of 7 finished the food they ordered. Overall not great service or sushi, I wouldn't come back here.
I've been wanting to come to this place and since I was close by, I decided to stop by. I didn't care for the iced green tea that much but the rest was great. I loved the skewers and the nigiris. I think this is the first place in Arizona that I got to eat kushi yaki so I was very satisfied and happy. The service was great! Kuka is pretty awesome and I always recommend it when someone asks for the best sushi in Tempe! I have been coming to Kuka since I started college at ASU (around the time they opened) and every single time is great. Their service is good, and their happy hour is SO WORTH IT. The prices are great for how much is served, and the surf and turf is a family and friends favorite! Will always come back and recommend to everyone!

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Ambiance is nice - dim and lively like you'd expect[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] and menu has variety, are plated nicely, and kushikatsu specifically was fried well - better than most places that slap izakaya onto their name. Biggest gripe was that the beef nigiri was torched too long; which with the inflated prices was a critical flaw. Service - we were put into a corner and neglected most of the evening even though the tables next to us were chatting it up with other servers (not our server, who disappeared until we walked up to the counter to close our bill ourselves) They have happy hour $5 rolls where they serve fewer pieces at the discounted price which is still solid. Seems hit or miss depending who's working at the time. Worth a visit if you're in the mood!
I decided to order some sushi through uber eats and was pleased with my meal. I ordered a salmon sushi, yellowtail with chilli oil, ikura, o-torro, and a spicy salmon roll. Everything was delicious! I loved the packaging it came in! It was perfect. I did however knock one star down because one of my pieces of salmon sushi was pretty dense like not the melt in your mouth how I hoped since it looked like a belly cut and I wish that the spicy salmon roll was chopped salmon instead of the smushy kind, still tasted good tho :)
The sever was very attentive and went during happy hour which started at 12pm. Ended up ordering more food than what we had expected, but overall great experience. Quality of the food was super tasty and great portion size!

Our order: 2 Sake Bombers w/ Asahi $10.5 each 1 Kentucky Mule $11 Spicy Tuna Tartare $7 (1/2 off w/ sake bomber) Buzz Omakase Dinner $22 Drunken Omakase Dinner x2 $32 each Uni Nigiri $14 Fresh Wasabi $3 Everything was good and we were super full! My Drunken Omakase came with miso soup, poke, chef's choice of 11pc nigiri, 5pc roll. I chose the spicy yellowtail for my roll. The only thing I didn't really like was the poke. It was a bit fishy for me but the nigiri was delicious! I also ordered the uni nigiri. It was just okay this time. Prices have definitely gone up but $32 for the Drunken Omakase is still a good deal!

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Cool sushi spot in Tempe![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We sat at the bar and our server was awesome! She was attentive AND a sight for sore eyes!! I got the tempura udon. The tempura was good. Came out crispy and delectable! The udon noodles were cooked just right, but being udon, it was definitely salty, but expected. Hubby thought his sushi was fantastic so, all good!! [[HIGHLIGHT]]You'll be in for a treat when you visit Kuka! Both, your belly and eyes will thank you as all the hot eye candy women work here!![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]
Great local sushi spot. Their happy hour is truly amazing. You can't really beat 5 dollar rolls. My significant other was being rather fancy and ordered the premium sashimi which has a lunch deal but we were an hour late for that. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Plenty of seating and tables and booth options too.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Good drink options and specials throughout the week. Kind service and a convenient location with ample parking at the apartment complex. Would definitely recommend to those in the area or if you end up craving a mid afternoon early dinner sushi option!

kuka sushi is my absolute favorite sushi restaurant in arizona!! the sushi, raw fish, and sashimi plates are absolutely heavenly and always so fresh. I've been countless times over the many years and I will always find myself coming back. I had it again recently after a while with 2 friends who've never been before and the seared tuna sashimi, sicilian hamachi, and surf n turf roll was delectable. the fish and sushi roll slices also seemed to be so much more bigger than I remembered, the portion sizes were hefty! I always love introducing my friends to kuka because of how good it is, and I have to tell them that after trying kuka no sushi restaurant will ever compare again lol sometimes the service is a little slow, so it's good to remember and get all your requests first thing in, or in the past I honestly have just gone up to the server myself and asked for whatever I needed. it's not super deterring for me though due to the amazing food that they have. I can't really speak for the quality of their non-sushi items however, as I do believe focusing on their sushi is the best way to eat here! read more

[[HIGHLIGHT]]I recently had dinner at Kuka Sushi & Izakaya and was immediately impressed by the modern, chic ambience. The space feels stylish and contemporary, with a sleek atmosphere that makes it perfect for both a casual dinner and a special night out.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The menu is truly avant-garde! Creative, innovative, and full of intriguing options. That said, I have to admit I felt a little overwhelmed at first and wasn't sure what to order because everything sounded so interesting. In the end, I chose the Omakase Dinner "Buzz," and I absolutely loved the concept. It includes miso soup, 9 pieces of nigiri, a mini poke, and a 5-piece roll -- such a fantastic idea if you're undecided and want to try a bit of everything! I think it's a splendid option, especially for first-timers or anyone who wants a complete tasting experience without having to choose individual items. If I could change one small thing, it would be the roll selection. I wish there were an option to choose from the specialty rolls instead of only the basic ones. That extra flexibility would make the experience even better. Overall, the quality of the food was very good, and the overall experience was enjoyable. It's definitely a place worth visiting, and I'll certainly be back to try the curry and ramen next time! read more

Came for lunch on a Tuesday right at opening (11:30am). [[HIGHLIGHT]]Nice place with plenty of seating options.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Was greeted and seated by the awesome waitresses who took good care of me the entire time! Plenty of options on the menu; I decided on nigiri and some Izakaya items. Food came out in a decent amount of time and met my expectations. My favorites were the chu toro, otoro, uni, and BIG tamago! Will probably come back and check out their omakase options next time. read more

Loved this place so much! I live right next to it and wonder why I didn't decide to try it sooner. The crunchy california roll is perfect for those who already love cali rolls in general, it'll make you love them even more! The sweet and savory flavors and texture was a perfect blend I could not get enough of. The fried rice is also a must try, it was super fresh and the flavor was just right, not overpowering and a great side dish. This place is definitely worth a try if you are in the area looking for a nice restaurant to sit down and enjoy as much food and drinks as possible. The service was also great, very attentive staff that are ready to get your food out asap. read more
My favorite sushi place in Arizona! The food here is so good! I'm telling you, you HAVE to get the surf and turf roll it's absolutely amazing! It's a bit pricy sitting at $17 for that roll but it's so worth it. Going during happy hour is a lot of fun too where their regular rolls get real cheap! The servers are nice too and it's clean and fresh inside. Their yakitori is also very good, I highly recommend the short rib 10/10 I also got the Tonkatsu Curry once which is also very good if you're not really feeling sushi! If you're looking for a tasty japanese dinner this is definitely the place to go! read more

I am from Central Coast, CA so looking for a sushi place in Arizona has been a task for me. I've been here for a while and have been hesitant to have sushi, and when I did enough research I decided to try this place. Kuka Sushi was so solid, flavorful and delicious. My husband and I went on a Saturday night and we got a little bit of everything. The chicken fried rice, salmon nigiri, rolls and the chicken teryaki. Absolutely everything we ordered was delicious. The sushi melted in my mouth, and the combination of flavors was amazing. The fried rice was some of the best I've ever had and chicken teryaki was cooked to perfection. This is a perfect casual place to eat, the service was amazing as we were greeted when we arrived. I highly recommend this place, there's so many sushi spots in the valley but have to say this is going to be my go to. Thankyou guys for an amazing experience! read more
It was so hard to give a score to this place. Considering the price of this place, the serving size of food is quite big. I'm usually big eater that I can eat two menus easily. I got the spicy kuka ramen and sashimi deluxe during the lunch. It was so much that I couldn't even finish it. I didn't think the quality of fish was extremely good, but acceptably good. Main reason I give this place a 4 is that the servers were nice and provide the prompt service as needed. Place is quite chill but not too crowded or loud. I wouldn't call it this is the best sushi place I've been to but I would give the quite high rating because this place is worth of the price. read more
My friend and I went to Kuka for happy hour and it was awesome. The spicy salmon roll was on the happy hour menu for a great price. We ate TONS of sushi, these are just the two rolls I snagged a picture of before digging in. I loved how they each had different flavors and the sauces added extra depth. Our server was around enough to keep us ordering and brought us plenty of drinks. It wasn't loud or super busy when we went, so it was great experience. The inside is on the smaller side but enough to bring friends to meet for yummy sushi. Highly recommend this spot if you're in the area. read more

This spot is absolutely uh-mazing! It's a fun, cozy spot with stellar food. We've come here frequently for some time, and during pandemic we ordered take out and it was just as good. We usually get a couple rolls, this time we had the shrimp tempura roll, Philadelphia rolls, the eel sushi and a California roll. Very fresh tasting! The eel sushi and eel sauce is one of our favs and always on point. Also would recommend their butter garlic fried rice (not pictured because we dug into it so fast lol) and their tempura udon is spot on. If you haven't been here, definitely try them out! It will probably become one of your fav spots. read more
This was such an amazing sushi place! I was picked up by a coworker and he recommended this place, highly. We walked in and it was such a nice modern restaurant with a very welcoming staff. We sat down and started to look over the large and amazing menu. They have a great deal for $31 which includes a Asahi Beer Tower and two appetizers! This is a huge deal and I was impressed with the price. We ordered that along with fried calamari and spicy tuna tartar. Both were amazing. We then ordered some Yakitori, some great rolls, sashimi, and really good drinks! The waitress was awesome and the food was top notch. I'll be adding this place to my list for when I come back here! read more

I did not expect that the best tonkotsu broth I've had in a while would be in Arizona... My fam and I arrived around 6 for dinner. Admittedly, I disliked the service we received here. The front staff were very curt when taking our contact info for their online waitlist, and our server was very hard to catch. I ended up having to get out of my seat just to ask for our check. Aside from the service, the food here was actually quite good. The restaurant itself is not fully Japanese, as the menu also has Korean options like short ribs and army stew. However, everything we ordered - the short ribs, the seafood hot pot, and scallop dynamite - was so delicious. I would hesitate to dine in again if I ever visited AZ a second time. Perhaps takeout would be nicer? read more

Arrived during lunch time, not too busy. Parking is convenient, located near the apartment entrance. I ordered the spicy kuka ramen with tofu. Note it's $2 extra to add in protein. We also shared the spicy tuna roll. I enjoyed the ramen-not too spicy. Savory and easy enough to share if you're ordering other things on the menu like sushi. My ramen was a bit on the salty side but I think I got used to it after awhile. Staff was great! Clean tables and restrooms. Next time I'll try some of their sushi items. read more
