Salmon Nigiri, Alaskan Roll, Spicy Hamachi Roll

We came into Zu Izakaya to try their happy hour offerings after visiting the new smaller-format IKEA location in Phoenix. With happy hour pricing, we were able to order and try a decent selection of food for two of us. We ordered their karaage skewer, salmon nigiri, spicy yellowtail roll, Vegas roll, Alaska roll, and miso soup, all of which were on their happy hour menu totaling less than $45 with tax and tip. Portion wise, everything felt like a great deal, with our nigiri costing less than $4 for two pieces, and all rolls being between $6-$9. In terms of quality, the fish on our salmon nigiri seemed to be just slightly mushy texture-wise. We didn't deal with any suspicious fishy aroma or taste, but the texture made it feel like it wasn't the highest quality. The fish in our rolls however, was solid for the price point. However, we noticed consistently with all of the sushi that their sushi rice was quite overcooked and mushy as well. This made the nigiri in particular a bit of an unenjoyable experience as well texturally. Despite these faults, we enjoyed our meal and for the price, definitely felt satisfied. Our server, whose name I didn't catch, was also very kind and attentive. All things considered, I'm surprised they were as empty as they were. And for inexpensive sushi in the Phx area, we thought it's definitely worth the visit.

The new owners did a fantastic job on the redesign. The inside is very warm and intimate while maintaining a modern feeling. Quality sushi that is fairly priced. Highly recommend.

I came for a reservation on 3/21/26 at 4:30 pm. Although the servers are busy, they handle you with care and speedy service. I like that their tables are well spaced out and is a perfect setting to catch up with friends and not feel overwhelmed. Happy hour is a delight here! I love that there's so many different options to choose from so if you have a big party, there's anything from tempura, bowls, soup, and sushi available. Their portions are shareable sizes and I was with a party of 8. Ordered: BUTTER CORN - Tastes more corn-y than buttery with cheese that feels dried off. Not the most impressive corn cheese but it was still decent. SALMON CARPACCIO - Ponzu with a bite of fresh salmon, I will be ordering this again next time. SALMON ROLL - Delicious as expected :) Just a plain roll with raw salmon in it. My only note is that I tipped a larger amount unintentionally because my server didn't mention that my split receipt already had gratuity added due to our large party. Not a big deal, but would be nice to know before paying :)

My boyfriend and I went here for sushi and had a 10/10 experience, per usual. This is our go to sushi spot - for great reason! They have multiple time slots for happy hour on Thursday, we just timed it wrong to not be within it this time but love the 8:30-close happy hour specials. Our server was really attentive and kind. We got our miso soup and sushi rolls really quick and had no problems with water being refilled. We also loved our Las Vegas roll (not pictured) as it was fried but not too much where it wasn't still fresh tasting. The staff here is always so great! I love this restaurant because there's two sides of it split up by the sushi bar and feels really cozy. I've usually seen families everytime we've gone so they have plenty of seating depending on your group size and vibe. This will continue to be our go to sushi date spot for sure.

The service was excellent -- our waitress was friendly, attentive, and really great throughout the meal. Unfortunately, the food didn't live up to expectations. My fiancé and I are big ramen fans, and we both felt the ramen tasted similar to instant ramen. The broth was bland, the noodles weren't great, and the pork in the ramen was a small piece that was unseasoned and overcooked. Even the egg in the ramen was way over cooked. The rice noodles in the gyoza hot pot also had a slimy texture. I usually order a spicy tuna roll as a safe option, but this one didn't taste fresh and was overly spicy to the point where it overpowered everything else. It was also a red flag seeing staff walk through the restaurant carrying a large plastic bag full of frozen food being brought to the kitchen. Overall, the service was wonderful, but the food quality didn't match what we were hoping for.

The service here is very slow, the staff was friendly but it was super slow. It took a while to get our appetizers and they came at the same time as the sushi. We didn't get any refills on our waters and our waitresses kept passing. Didn't ask if there was anything else we needed. The restaurant is not super big but they do have some tables to accommodate a larger party. The food was good. Definitely worth a try but expect to wait, one couple walked out because of how long someone was taking to come and take their order.

My friend and I have been coming here regularly for lunch since June 2024. Absolutely hands down one of our favorite everyday go-to Sushi restaurants. Service and Food have always been consistent. Fish is always fresh. The menu is extensive, something for everyone. My friend and I are really creatures of habit and order the same items when we dine there, though I've had their Spicy Kimchi Hot Pot minus the Spam... it was delicious. Atmosphere: nice, typical Japanese restaurant look. Service: excellent. Food: excellent.

Great spot in Tempe! They have happy hour every day from 4 to 7 and late night happy hour every day except Sunday. Lots of choices on the happy hour menu. I tried the tempura green tea. Cheesecake. It was good, but not amazing. Elisa was the bartender and she was great! The bar area is separate and they have an outside area too.

Truly amazing experience. The omakase was expensive but you will leave full and happy. The only thing stopping me from going more often is cost but otherwise great option!

This has become a great sushi favourite spot for the selection, service and top notch consistency of high quality. Service has always been quick (not rushed) and servers have always answered questions and made options and choices easy to make. The menu is extensive, the prices not expensive. The biggest draw for Zu Iz, is their sushi customization menu. I don't eat fake crab which is in most rolls everywhere. For Zu Iz, no issue, they have a very affordable and creative upgrade substitution menu. So want a great spider Roll, but made with Snow crab and not fake crab, sure. Want a rainbow roll with something else like Tuna? Sure. But two big favourite highlights for me would be the Chefs Omakase Tuna Roll, each visit is a spectacular array of individual masterpieces. In the cooler weather, the best hot pots around and the biggest bowl serving. Check out my pics.

One of the best things about this sushi restaurant is their side menu. For example, I am not a fan of crab mix with imitation crab but for $4, on the Side menu, Zu Izakaya will make the crab mix with snow crab...totally worth it to me. The prices are very low and the menu has a wide selection to choose from. They also offer both an early and late happy hour menu. The sushi did not disappoint. All very fresh and very good@

We were a party of 12 visiting on vacation, and none of us are from the area. We ordered spam musubi and a chicken skewer as appetizers. Both appetizers arrived well after our entrees had already been served and we had essentially finished eating. Each time we asked about them, we were repeatedly told, "They're coming." Mind you, these are simple appetizers that should not take anywhere near that long to prepare. When we asked for the third time, we finally asked that the appetizers be cancelled since we had already finished our meal. At that point, the gentleman working the front area , tall, with red hair, loudly yelled from across the restaurant, in an extremely rude and confrontational tone, "It's already on the grill!" There was absolutely no reason to speak to paying customers that way. His response was unprofessional, unnecessary, and honestly created a very hostile and uncomfortable feeling during what should have been an enjoyable dinner, especially while our group was on vacation and simply trying to enjoy a meal together. When the appetizers eventually came out, we left them sitting there because we were already done eating and ended up taking them to go. He eventually told us they would be removed from the bill, which we appreciated, but that did not excuse the way the situation was handled. Again, the food was good, but good food does not make up for poor service and especially not for an employee speaking to customers in an aggressive and disrespectful manner. Management should seriously address how customers are treated, because the interaction with this particular employee overshadowed what could have otherwise been a good dining experience for our party of 12.

Definitely a vibe for anime lovers! Food-wise, we started with the gyoza and they were delicious. Perfectly cooked and even better dipped in the ponzu sauce! We also tried the sushi flight, which was a great way to sample a few different flavors. Overall, I really enjoyed it, although the eel was probably my least favorite of the flight just personal preference. The crispy tuna rice was easily the star of the meal! Crispy, flavorful, and the textures worked so well together. I would 100% order that again. The ramen, however, was just okay for me. It wasn't bad or inedible, but the broth was lacking that rich, deep flavor I look for in a good bowl of ramen. A little more depth and seasoning would really take it to the next level. The service was honestly one of the highlights. Our waiter was super friendly, cool, and attentive without hovering, which I always appreciate. Overall, there were definitely more hits than misses. The great service, fun atmosphere, and crispy tuna rice are enough for me to give Full Moon Izakaya another try. Next time, I'll be exploring more of the menu!

Creative, innovative, and full of intriguing options. That said, I have to admit I felt a little overwhelmed at first and wasn't sure what to order because everything sounded so interesting. In the end, I chose the Omakase Dinner "Buzz," and I absolutely loved the concept. It includes miso soup, 9 pieces of nigiri, a mini poke, and a 5-piece roll -- such a fantastic idea if you're undecided and want to try a bit of everything! I think it's a splendid option, especially for first-timers or anyone who wants a complete tasting experience without having to choose individual items. If I could change one small thing, it would be the roll selection. I wish there were an option to choose from the specialty rolls instead of only the basic ones. That extra flexibility would make the experience even better. Overall, the quality of the food was very good, and the overall experience was enjoyable. It's definitely a place worth visiting, and I'll certainly be back to try the curry and ramen next time!

I left still hungry after getting the gold omakase, bad and buri roll, and hamachi crudo. The hamachi was the best part of the meal but I'd still expect at least 5 pieces for the price. Anyways, this spot will hit the spot if you have a sushi craving. I can't vouch for the drinks but I assume it more than checks the box in that regard judging by the menu, selection, and vibe. 6/8/26 A visit to one of Scottsdale's trendy Restaurants…read more There has been allot of buzz around the Roko Akor, great marketing, Wagu dumpling, Flame seared Stakes, Seafood and Sushi offerings in an attractive Scottsdale resort area where both Arizona visitors and locals enjoy staycations for Golf and fun. It's well placed amounst popular resorts, endless choices of golf courses, high end shopping, Spas and other eateries. For our of state visitors it is located in an area that provides a great destination for conferences and vacation launching point to enjoy what Scottsdale has to offer. Parking 5/5 There is a great turn-about like drop off near the front door I took advantage of. Other semi private parking is located along the west and south in front and behind the restaurant. Ambiance 5/5++ After passing through the foyer, you're greeted by staff receptionists who quickly get your experience started. The restaurant opens up to a large open dining space that includes an impressive "baresk" wrap around serving counter which allows guests to experience and interact with the kitchen staff. Adjacent to the main dining area is a very trendy wraparound bar and a little more intimate lounge with tables for guest meetups, date nights, after business meetings or relax after playing 18 holes at a nearby course. Facing the bar is the wine cellar, a floor to ceiling long glass presentation of their collection. There is a separate special event room in the back for hosting private dinners with special event reservations. Tonight this room was reserved for Yelp's "Elite All-Stars" and hosted by the Roka-Akar and the wonderful Phoenix Yelp Community Manager (CM) Francheska J, I popped my head in to say hello to her and she was kind enough to give me some merch. Congratulations to Roka-Akor for launching this beautiful Resturant in Scottsdale and to Yelp and Francheska for putting on a great experience for your Elite All-Stars! Gent your trendy on my friends-SYOY!

I overheard a special on oysters so look forward to returning for that. Would love if they'd bring an NA bubbly in the future and consider bringing back the bar sushi omakase. It was my favorite choice on the menu! And Manager a Wesley is hands down one of the most special parts about this place. What a fun and charming personality! Fantastic staff who make you feel welcome!

Harumi has some great seafood flown in every day and I cant say enough about how great their Omakase is which I believe is only offered after 6pm. They have amazing sake bombers and also recommend the Unagi Don bown. Sushi can be pricey but for a great offering of sashimi and nigiri, I cant say it breaks the bank. They also have a wide range of rolls that the kids love as well as a flaming one done table side which is fun to watch. They also have real wasabi for just two dollars more which is well worth it. I also recommend happy hour for cheap damage, squid salad, and aforementioned sake bombers. Really a great option if you are staying downtown but also worth the trip from anywhere in the valley. Service is fantastic and quick, plus they have a bar at the sushi station if you want to see tour meal being made.the new location has very modern ambience and a very upscale feel to it. Waits havent been crazy but I recommend coming early. Also ask for the secret yokozunas flying banana. Well worth it.
