The servers are usually great, but it seems like management is iffy. I have seen a couple be treated unfairly while enjoying my meal. The edamame is good and so are the veggie egg rolls. Stopped in after going to the Improv for a show on a Friday night. We were seated right away and the place was not that busy. I was excited to see how many vegan options are on the menu, especially for the sushi. Usually it is an avocado or cucumber roll, but there were plenty of different options to try. We ordered the vegan gyoza to start. I have not been able to have gyoza in forever since it's always pork or chicken. These were light and tasted like the real deal and were flavorful. Hubby ordered the grizzly bear and the cucumber, eel, krab roll. Hubby's words: the grizzly bear is nuts. The salmon tastes fresh, the panko breading on the shrimp was crisp and enhanced flavor of the roll. The krab roll tasted kind of like a California roll with some eel added and it was falling apart but the content of the roll was still good, fresh and flavorful. I ordered the Lotus and the Fat Veggie roll. The fat veggie lives up to its name. It's fat and takes a while to chew lol. But I loved having protein in the roll with the baked tofu, and it was packed with veggies. The sweet potato was soft (most places I get it is more on the raw side), the bell pepper had a snap to it, and the flavors all complimented each other. The lotus roll is unique. I would never think to put mango with asparagus, avocado and cucumber, but it was delicious! By far my favorite vegetarian roll I've had!! This is a beautiful, new, spacious location with a gorgeous bar area and huge patio. This is the place for happy hour and it was busy tonight! Not only does this place have a full bar, but they have happy hour specials, drink specials, and an entire menu of ramens and bowls in addition to their extensive sushi menu. AND, for someone who is all about eating mostly vegan, they have at least 10 types of vegan sushi rolls, ramens, bowls, and a ton more for your vegan friends. And they were good! The service was quick and we walked in and was able to be seated right away. They have happy hour every day from 3-7 with great options on the HH menu - lots of $3, $4, $5 appetizers. The sushi was tremendous! We got the Gyoza that were crispy and delicious. We also got the Monsoon Roll and the Golden State Roll that were both so tasty. Our server was nice and attentive. Came by on a Friday night for their reverse happy hour. I wandered in because my friend said they have $5 rolls and while they DO have $5 rolls, they're mainly veggie rolls. A majority of the specialty rolls become $2-3 cheaper, while maki rolls become $1-2 cheaper. HH prices don't show on their website menu, but on the menu in person the HH prices are in red. The Sun Devil Roll was good and the salmon Philly roll was ok. One of my friends got the ramen (asked for extra spicy) and the sip I had of the soup was very good. Sushi 101 does far more than the basics. Staff was very friendly and there was dog friendly seating on the patio. Drinks were a little slow to arrive because cups needed to be washed, but food came quickly and was accurate and very delicious. All three rolls held together nicely and had great balance of flavor. My favorite of what we ordered was the Captain Crunch. Tables and floors were clean and the ambience was warm and romantic. The noise level was mostly quiet. One of our dishes did have a major chip. So you'd be driven for 20 mins thinking your in the wrong place. They know perfectly well this place is not marked properly. There should put a banner or some kind of ad pointing the way. Instead, there's nothing. Then the food came. Absolutely nothing exciting about it. Dragon is such an exciting name, but then there'll comes and is just flat. The flavors are flat. Presentation... My husband and I had dinner at Sushi 101 on Saturday. We got there at around 8 and were seated immediately. When we reviewed the menu, we realized that we missed the happy hour by 1 hour and were 1 hour early to the second one which starts at 9:00pm to close. We were in the mood for sushi so I ordered 5 sushi rolls, all from the cooked options. My husband also ordered edamame for an appetizer. We also ordered 1 coke and 1 water. The edamame came out super fast. I didn't have any. It's my husband's favorite, not really mine. We waited for the food for a long time before our waitress came up to us and said that the kitchen was behind and asked us if we wanted to order an appetizer while we waited. We ordered vegetable spring rolls. Almost as soon as we placed our order, the sushi rolls started coming out! The lollipop, the dragon and the "scallops" were our favorites out of the 5. Both my husband and I found the lobster shrimp roll and the other role bland and didn't have much flavor. The spring rolls were good and were crispy. They were served with a dipping sauce that was unusual but tasted pretty good. They were on the smaller side and the basket had 4 of them. When we completed our meal and received our bill, I was somewhat disappointed that we were charged a full price for the appetizer. If the kitchen is behind and we have to wait for our order, a lot of times, restaurants offer something on the house. We didn't expect that but we would have appreciated at least the happy hour price for the appetizer. We had to wait for around 25 minutes for our rolls to come out. A good restaurant for sushi with a lot of menu options but I would go there only during happy hour in the future. read more

This is probably the biggest disappointment I've had with sushi in the desert. It would have been good, had prices matched the pitiful portions & overly salted contents. Not to mention- their rolls aren't filled with what the descriptions claim. The calamari roll was literally smaller than what you'd get from the to-go section of Fry's sushi. Enough to feed a child for a snack. It contained nothing but a pinch of crab, few strands of cucumber & a LOT of cream cheese. There was no calamari in there at all. It was like a small bite of cream cheese w/ white rice & a pinch of seaweed. $8 wasted. The volcano roll at least had a bit more involved. But, don't count on it being much more of a portion. For $13 I got a basic California roll with a heap of imitation crab on top. The crab mix was so salty I had to scrape it off & dispose of it. I was really looking forward to the calamari topping... there were maybe 7 pebbles the size of a cocoa puff, entirely over cooked. Pan steamed gyoza ends up being 4 pieces of someone throwing them on a pan & burning one side with the rest entirely uncooked. No gyoza sauce, just another side of salty soy. That drained me another $8. And, I can certainly say not a single one was worth $2! So, you'd think edamame would be the ONE thing they couldn't screw up... but they did. SO salty, and undercooked. I had to pry the soybeans out of the shells & the abundance of salt coating it stuck to my fingers, ruining whatever I managed to pry out. I don't know who in their right mind would have tolerated or eaten this sitting at the actual establishment. Had I not opted for take-out, I would have sent EVERYTHING back and asked for a full refund. But, unfortunately I'm out $40+ after taxes, tip, etc. over this extremely lacking dinner. College students may tolerate this, but I don't recommend to anyone who knows what GOOD sushi is supposed to be. I'd say you are better off with one of the DoorDash delivery options that come out of some random warehouse than spending on this excuse. Overpriced, not prepared correctly or with the proper ingredients, tiny portions & way too much salt content. I can't even say I'd be willing to give a second chance on this one. They need to 101 themselves or change their name. read more
