They have several different seasonings that you can top your fries with. While I liked the crunch of the fries, I wasn't a super big fan of the sour cream and onion seasoning. This was our first time trying this restaurant. We ordered about 20 minutes before closing and they made our chicken fresh to order. The fries were most definitely not fresh. I found the chicken to be very salty. My husband liked that the tenders were really juicy. I loved how moist and tender the chicken breast was. Even after 25 min of driving home all the chicken we ordered was just....juicy. lol Because they were closing soon, the floors were being mopped and the smell of whatever they were using mixed with something else I couldn't identify was too strong to be able to stay. This place is quickly becoming one of my favorite fried chicken places here in beautiful, family friendly, crime free, Memphis TN! It's got a seasoning that is unlike any other of the other cayenne heavy batters/sauces that are so familiar to me. The skin is crispy, light, and damn near perfect. The meat itself is amazingly juicy and so freaking full of flavor. It's really good! There is some kind of magic happening in that weird little kitchen as far as the chicken is concerned. I have never actually seen anyone frying chicken, but somehow it's always hot and stupid fresh. I suspect some ancient Korean Shamanism possibly. More on that later... The sides however need a blessing from something.... I have yet to find one that lives up to the chicken hype. Mac & Cheese was an extremely large nope. I'm not even sure wtf that was. Cheese dip, maybe??!! Fries are standard and just ok. Mashed potatoes are the best side, but really aren't that good. The little uniform bits of potato throws me way off. The folks working here cannot possibly be real. I have no way of expressing myself that will succinctly describe the voice and mannerisms of every person that I have spoken to. This is simply AMAZING!!! I went here 3 times during my 12 days work trip. The crispiness of the golden fried chicken and the flavor is fantastic. The chicken is moist and tender, even the breast. Decided to stop by on my lunch break. Bad idea!! When i entered, there was not greet at all. I walked to the register, where the young man just stared at me. No "hello", "what can i get for you", just stares. So i placed my order for a two piece chicken combo-white with fries. The combo comes with one side, a cookie and a drink. I also got an extra side of gravy. My total came up to $17.22! Nearly $20 for two pieces of chicken. I digress! I was given my cup and got my drink. I tasted the sweet tea, it was just ok so i mixed it with the lemonade. I sat down to wait in my food. Waiting, waiting, waiting and still waiting, 20 mins had passed by. There was one other guy inside waiting for their food as well. I walked up and asked how much longer, the young man running the register was off to the side in his phone, he hopped up and checked & said 5 more mins ma'am. Once 5 mins passed, the called for the other gentleman to get his food. At this point, i was standing at the front counter to show how long it was taking. So apparently, all chicken is cooked to order. Thats cool - so i dont recommend you going on your lunch break because it will take a while. I get my food And i can feel the heat from the bag. They package the food in these cardboard boxes. The heat from the food makes the boxes soggy. I live about 6 mins from the location. When i returned home to eat my food, the chicken was hot, but the fries were not. The fact that i had to wait so long And EVERYTHING not be fresh truly PMO!!! To add, the chicken was big, like steroid big & the flavor just wasn't there for me! I didn't even eat it all because i got grossed out. The gravy was so thick it could've been used as glue. Nothing very special. I thought at first it would be some Asian fried chicken but it tasted like some regular greasy friend chicken. I guess I should have known by looking at the menu that it wasn't going to be anything special, that being said it wasn't bad it just wasn't special. I do feel I could have gotten better fried chicken and fries elsewhere. So, I dont normally give out 5 stars, but WOW!!!. This has become my favorite chicken spot. I'd like to thank a fellow yelp elite for the recommendation, haha. So the place is very quaint and very clean. It is small since it is on a strip mall store front type, so keep that in kind so that it can get packed quickly based on day and time. The service is very nice, and you can walk around or go to another store while you wait for your order since they send texts to your phone to notify you when your order is ready. The chicken there is very flavourful, and so are their seasoned fries. I have the cheese fries with the idea that they would be the typical cheese fries... instead, they are dusted, like Andy cap cheese fries, and they are packed with flavor. I haven't tried their barbecue one yet, but I'm interested in trying. This may be my new go to when it comes to a fried chicken craving. 1st of all the Bathroom is clean.. everywhere else was as well. The chicken was cooked to order.. so it's not fast food. It was however worth the wait.. I had a breast, leg, and thigh. My second review! I went to the Lakeland store. I noticed that the dining area needs a good cleaning; chair legs, walls, baseboards, and especially the restroom. The restroom floor, garbage can, and door needs cleaning. The restroom door on the inside needs painting! The cashier sat down and was on her cellphone. She then went to the back with no gloves on and packed a box of chicken. Although she used tongs to get the chicken; she put the lining paper in the box without gloves. The cashier should always wear gloves, especially after handling money! The cook had on a bonnet/hair net , not the cashier. But she's working with food. I was breaking into the chicken breast and literally watched the juiciness of it come out of the meat. I was super impressed! The skin had a great taste to it and was very crunchy, which I love. The food was served to us piping hot so I believe it was freshly fried once we ordered. The slaw wasn't my favorite but it wasn't bad! I just enjoy eating slaw with fried chicken, so it did what it was supposed to do. My husband ordered dark meat and enjoyed his chicken, but his Mac and cheese was so bland. Went during their soft opening, and the lady taking your order is super sweet! It is made to order, and because they are new, it did take awhile for the order to be ready. However, well worth the much deserved patience. The boba milk tea has a very interesting taste/after-taste, but the milkyness was yummy! The chicken was delicious!! The mac and cheese reminded me of Stouffer's. It was okay. French fries were good and hot. I want to try the seasoned fries. Service was okay. We had a young teen that may have just started since this is a new restaurant. He was shy and didn't talk much but still cordial. He did answer questions we had. The place is very clean and was hopping with many patrons. It was steady busy as we dined in and enjoyed the meal. There is a good number of parking spots as the place is in a strip mall. I have been wanting to try this place and finally did when we didn't really have much to cook at home. I didn't notice a phone number on here or thru google, so it was a bit of a bummer to not be able to order ahead. We were impressed with just how large the tenders are. You're definitely getting your money's worth. I think my family of 5 could've actually shared the 12 piece combo, coz we have plenty left over. The chicken reminds me a lot of Gus's in the way that it's cooked, but the flavor is definitely different. I wouldn't say it's bursting with flavor, but there are definitely some unique spices. The chicken is SO juicy, and it's not spicy, so it's easy for kids to eat. The fries are really good too--nice and crispy. It's a really small spot, so while there's tables to sit and eat, maybe not so much for a huge crowd. But it's a Filipino owned restaurant and not only is the service excellent but the Chicken they serve is not your regular average fried chicken that you get from Popeyes or KFC. Love this new location in Lakeland/Bartlett. This is just what we needed in Memphis for some variety and ethnicity in how chicken is served. This is my fav fried chicken place next to Gus. It just has that crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside homemade fried chicken that I miss from my mama's kitchen. We got to try the BBQ seasoned fries and it tastes like sweet bbq chips! It is a Filipino run eatery and they cook a Filipino fried chicken. The chicken is crispy and the batter has a subtle Asian flavor. Sides are good. You can also get boba tea items. They are still working on the ins and outs of doing a business with some inconsistencies at the ordering process. However they have been opened for about a month at the wiring of this review. There is a lady who handles the fixing up of the orders and she is very knowledgeable of the whole process and Kris the cashiers straight if she hears them doing something incorrect. Perfectly fried chicken. Prompt, friendly and professional staff. We called in a carry out order which was ready exactly at the time they said. A very interesting flavor but not overly spicy. If you live in this part of Memphis you know that there's only been one other place for decent fried chicken and while it is also excellent, that place only has one flavor which is very spicy. We like that other place a lot but sometimes we want something other than spicy fried chicken. The drive through was places have all gone to crap either from terrible food or terrible service or both so Kukuruku is a welcome addition to the area.
