Gracie's Kitchen is one of my go-to spots for comfort food. I always order the fried chicken plate, usually with cabbage, mac & cheese, or yams, and it never disappoints. The fried chicken is crispy, well-seasoned, and cooked just right every time. Their sweet tea is so good--definitely a must-have with your meal. My only critiques would be that I wish the yams had a deeper glaze and the mac & cheese was a bit more thoroughly baked, but the flavors are still solid overall. I always get my food to go, the prices are very reasonable, and the portions are satisfying. If you're ordering a fried entrée, make sure to order ahead and allow about 15 minutes for them to finish frying--it's worth the wait. read more

This was my first visit to the restaurant. I questioned the location, but I decided to enter and place an order to go because there were multiple people waiting in line. The restaurant was clean, and I didn't have to wait an unreasonable amount of time for my food. The cashier was friendly, and explained the business to me. My food was not hot, but it hit the spot. The yams were not sweet, the pork chops were salty and dry, the lima beans were over cooked, and my dinner roll was hard. We chose this restaurant on a Sunday for it was one of the closest soul food spot in the area. The restaurant was nice and clean and offers a quick to go line & also a small sit in dining area. We selected the baked chicken, dressing, candied yams, spaghetti, macaroni, black eyed peas & fried chicken.. The fried chicken was cooked fresh to order but you have to request it. For the other items in our meal , the baked chicken & spaghetti were both lukewarm. We did arrive close to closing, which was the reason given for the cold food. Although we got there late in the evening, with chicken it needs to be hot at all times. Gracie's definitely deserves a second chance & look forward to going back around lunch time. read more

I visited Gracie's Kitchen today for the chicken and dressing. Normally I don't have any problems with my order but today I received a plate that look like an kids order. The first young lady gave me the smallest chicken thigh/ leg. The second lady gave me a half of spoon of dressing, cabbage and small pieces of the yams I don't mind paying the high prices on the food but at least give me a adult dinner plate. Soul food spot in the Bartlett/Cordova area. I made it there around 4:30pm and most sides they were out of as well as peach cobbler. As for the meats, I only saw smothered pork chops and baked chicken. I ordered smothered pork chops, green beans, and squash with a dinner roll. The pork chops were very tender and not too salty. Side were ok, not my favorite on the taste side of things. As a restaurant, that serves daily items I think those items should be made available throughout the day. The inside is small, one patron did not have on a mask, but those working did. So mask requirement...not sure about. They have cakes available in the fridge when you walk in. The food looked as tho it had been sitting out for the most part and once they are out of something then...oh well. Service was quick enough, but it should have been since they were out of many items that were on the daily menu. They are closed on Saturday FYI. read more

My son recommended Gracie's. My friend picked up dinner and got me the smothered pork chops. They were dry and salty ( and I love salt). Seems like they were reheated from the day before. Cabbage was brown in color, yams were ok and the roll seemed very commercial. I would rather tell the owner, but no one would answer the phone. The food made me very sick. It took two and a half days for me to have an appetite to eat again. Pork chop or cabbage?!? Something made me very sick. I hope everyone knows food safety standards at this restaurant. The food I had was pretty good, although I thought it was a bit high. A meat plus two with tea set me back $12. Another $4 for banana pudding. I hate eating with plastic out of styrofoam and I think I deserve a plate for these prices. Other places do it. The $12 meal did not fill me up and I should be able to get a meat plus three for $12 and leave stuffed and leave a $3 tip. I left Gracie's with $18 less in my wallet for lunch. It's cafeteria style so you can see the food you'll be eating. It's also really fast if you're in a pinch for time, because all they have to do is plate it for you. The smothered pork chops were great. Probably the thing that impressed me the most was the brown gravy. It was obvious that it was homemade with beef fat. The turnip greens were undoubtedly from fresh leaves and they had lots of flavor. I wish they would put turnips in their greens. The squash was good, but nothing special at all. Just sliced and boiled. I hate cornbread muffins. You have to cook cornbread in a skillet to get a moist center. Muffin pans are for breakfast and cupcakes. The banana pudding kind of sucked and especially for $4. It was all crumbled up together as if the whole thing had been put in a blender. read more

HERE ARE THE PROS: The food at Gracie's Kitchen is AWESOME! It is seasoned and cooked like "at home" cooked food!! They always have a selection of meats to choose from, including baked and fried chicken, pork chops cooked several ways: in gravy, fried with a coated batter, and grilled, as well as grilled (sautéed) chicken wings, which are my favorite!! You can also select from another one or two meat(s) which change daily. Everything is served in styrofoam sectioned containers where you go through the line and choose your meat. The vegetables change quite often, ranging from HOMEMADE candied yams, FRESH PICKED greens, mash potatoes (gravy), whole kernel and/or cream style corn, green beans (excellent!!), spaghetti, and HOMEMADE macaroni and cheese, which I've never eaten in life, but others I've picked up "plates" for, say their Mac-n-cheese is excellent!! After choosing your meat, you move along and choose (2) vegetables and your choice of their cornbread or my favorite, the soft dinner rolls. The line is not long, it moves fast, I recommend you stand back and get an idea what you're going to order prior to entering the "4 minute line"! Yes, it moves that fast, as it's worked by 2 to 3 servers and one does your meat, one is going to do your vegetables, and if there's a third worker, they'll put a "liner" over your meal, bag it up and put your plastic ware inside it. If 2 workers only, the second worker takes over all final packaging duties. The cashier rings you up, and you're out the door! If a drink is desired, they are self-served where once paid for, you'll receive your cup and head towards the back of the restaurant to get it yourself. They do have approximately 6 "small tables", known as 4-tops (seats 4 people) but these truly seat only 2 people comfortably!! NOW!! THE CONS: These reasons are why 4 stars were given, and not 5 stars: They can't seem to establish a "regular set of hours of operation" for their business!! THIS GETS FRUSTRATING and DETERS MY VISITING THERE, WHICH I REALLY DO MISS!! You plan on going there the next day, only to arrive and find out they're CLOSED!! Telephoning in advance does not "always help" as sometimes it'll roll over to voicemail, OR the voicemail is full!! Yet you arrive (just in case), and they're open! Also, they're "CONSTANTLY HIRING", so I'm led to believe it's in the management department that needs revising. Come on DO NOT let this restaurant go down! Your restaurant is to darn good!! This place has exceptional food cooked like your mom cooked for a Sunday meal. I ordered the meatloaf, collard greens and dressing. I first thought the price was a little too expensive; however I saw my meal when I arrived home I quickly changed my mind. There was so much food on my plate that I had enough food for another meal on Monday. The entire meal was fresh, seasoned and delicious . My friend ordered chicken and dressing with candied yams and he ate the entire meal in one sitting . He stated he will be coming back to Gracies Kitchen every chance he get. He thanked me for bringing him to a true soul food restaurant.
