Disappointment rules as this Hibachi stalwart discovers salt much to the dismay of ourselves and our dining companions. Sure, the show is intact with Saki volcanos and everyone mimicking a trained seal trying to catch the vegetables flung at us by the chef. But the salt. It literally burned the tongue and made the chicken virtually inedible unless you were sitting next to an open hydrant. When I mentioned our concerns to the manager all he could summon was a wan sorry and a shrug. Kumo is off our list. A very salty two stars. read more

OK I really love hibachi and I really love the food at Kumo 27 but the wait is often really long for the hibachi grill tables. They seat you but then you just wait and wait for the chef to come over. The last time I went I waited over an hour! That said, if you go when it is less busy I would definitely reccomend because the food is so yummy and the chefs put on a fantastic show! I personally love the hibachi chicken, shrimp, and scallop but the salmon is the absolute best! I also enjoy the sushi and reccomend the lettuce wraps for an appetizer as well as the cheese wontons. What a fun location with very good teriyaki! I havent tried their hibachi yet and will certainly come back for that. I had been to the previous hibachi establishment at the same location 20 years ago and loved it but had not tried Kumo until today. I was in more of a teriyaki mood today so I got shrimp teriyaki with miso soup, salad & rice. Before we get to the food, I want to discuss the atmosphere! Beautiful flowers, red tulips & red roses, a stage with live instrumentation with red stage lighting, a bar with large LCD tv screens with adorable napkins with red roses in them. I also loved the 2000s rock music that was blasting during our entire lunch. Although it was a sleepy Sunday in early spring in the afternoon, I know on a Friday night this place is jam packed and popping. The manager confirmed the area near the stage becomes a dancing floor on Friday & Saturday nights which I will definitely be back for. Now, lets get to the food. While not the best Japanese food that Ive had -- Ill give those honors to Sukihana in Somerset and a Hibachi restaurant in Collingswood -- the miso soup was flavorflu and hot, the salad was fresh & the dressing was tasty and the shrimp teriyaki and sauce was good. There is ample parking and outside dining as well. If you like Japanese food and youre near 27, check out Kumo! The Texas roll is pretty hearty, as it has filet Mignon on top of shrimp tempura with spicy tuna on the inside, avocado, spicy mayo, eel sauce, and Wasabi mayo. Manager Called Police Over All-You-Can-Eat Menu Dispute I visited Kumo 27 Restaurant with my daughter after checking their official website, which clearly lists the All You Can Eat price as $30.99 from Monday to Thursday. Since we went on a Tuesday, we expected the restaurant to honor their published pricing. When we arrived, the staff told us that the all-you-can-eat option was no longer available every day. We showed them the information from their own website, and the manager agreed to honor the posted price. However, after we ordered, the restaurant brought only a small portion of what we requested. When we tried to order more -- exactly as allowed by their own AYCE rules -- they refused to bring additional sashimi. When we asked for clarification, the manager approached us in a very confrontational and unprofessional way. The situation escalated unnecessarily, and the manager chose to call the police. The officers handled the situation calmly and professionally. After speaking with everyone, the owner agreed that we should only be charged $10, which we paid. Overall, this was a stressful and disappointing experience. I hope the restaurant improves its customer service and makes sure that what is posted on their website matches what they actually offer in the restaurant. read more

We went to this restaurant for lunch for a quick bite on a Sunday and there wasn't any guest there. We were greeted by a hostess that led us to our table and noticed that the restaurant has a stage and equipment for performances, which was interesting. The first thing I noticed was that the restaurant was dimly lit during the day and, there was a musty scent that was a little off putting. We decided to stay and see how the food was. We loved the bench seating we got next to the window. The menu options were really really nice. I usually get a dragon roll but wanted to try a new dish with eel in it, so I ordered the geisha roll and lychee Martini. My boyfriend ordered the Texas roll with a blue Hawaiian drink. My martini was really good when I drank it through a straw, however sipping it at first tasted really watery but noticed that the flavor and alcohol sank to the bottom. The blue Hawaiian drink was tasty; not my favorite but my boyfriend enjoyed it. It took a little over 20 minutes to receive our food, which was unfortunate because we were the only ones there at first. We found out later that it may have been because the Texas roll comes with steak that's placed on top. I really recommend the geisha roll that has salmon and a non-seaweed wrap. It tasted so delicious and the presentation was beautiful. The Texas roll was unique. It was on the chewer side. If you love steak, I would recommend it. read more

The worse restaurant experience I've had in a long long time!! First and last time visiting... I even downloaded the app to write a review, which I've never done before due to the evening! Turned up for a hibachi experience.. my wife, kids and I love hibachi, always have. When we entered there was a customer being treated poorly at the front desk.. and they clearly weren't happy with something that went down. First red flag right there. We were taken to our seats.. and it wasn't easy to walk.. the floor was extremely slippery.. almost emulated the slip and slide that we got for our daughters 11th birthday last year. We were sat down at a table that had no else waiting, and started perusing through the menu. I didn't think it looked too expensive. Typical Hibachi prices to be honest. We ordered our drinks and upon the return of the waitress with our drinks, we ordered our dinner. The soup and ginger dressed salad, arrived fairly promptly. I feel the salad had almost been pre prepared, it was clearly washed and left to sat.. the dressing had the consistency of the soup in the other bowl. Red flag number 2! We all didn't finish the soup or salad. Which to be honest is usually one of my favourites parts of the whole experience, a little amuse-bouche to get the taste buds flowing.. unfortunately nothing was flowing except the salad dressing! We then proceeded to wait for 40 mins for any action to happen whatsoever, which we wanted to be the chef coming out to cook our food; but yet it was another family being sat at the table with us. At this point, I decided to get up and make the treacherous "walk" across the slippery floor to the waitress who was busy playing candy crush on her phone. Merely stating that we had been waiting for 40 minutes. I'm British so I never complain in a restaurant.. but I got to the point where I couldn't bite my tongue any longer. She stated the chef would be out shortly and that they were short staffed. Red flag number 3!! After another 15 minute wait for the other family to order drinks, food and receive their salad and soup, out came the chef! I couldn't fault the enthusiasm or performance the chef gave. You know, the usual tricks.. spatula tosses, onion volcano, and tossing the veg across the room into our open mouths. At this stage even the napkin looked appetising to me. I've had my fair share of Hibachi.. and without sounding like a douche.. all over the country and aboard.. and I don't think anything that I ate or consumed tasted like I remembered or even how it should. Everything was salty.. coated in garlic butter (the wife will be on the receiving end of that tonight) and the "yum yum" sauce was horrendous! Every time going to hibachi prior to this evening, we have always got a box and returned home with the leftovers to eat the next day. Now this time we said no to a box and just left the leftovers for the trash! The check was given with a 18% service charge already included!!!! Utterly crazy. 18% for what? I've been going to Shogun (previous owners of this spot) all my life. Literally all my life, lol, such sentimental memories. Finally got to try Kumo! Love the renovations and updates they did with the place. The food is still overall delicious-- typical hibachi style. I do prefer Shogun's noodles to Kumo's and ice cream is no longer included. But one thing that Kumo takes win over Shogun is the prices. In this economy?! I did not expect for the hibachi items to be so affordable!!! My mom and I were beyond shocked and pleased. I've now been coming here regularly for two years since it's KUMO 27. The food is always consistently good and they have a large selection to choose from like Sushi, Hibachi, Udon, Tempura, some Chinese and Thai dishes. I recommend these appetizers: My favorite is their ROCK SHRIMP- Every time I come to KUMO 27 I have to have it. I also enjoy their ICHIBAN-STYLE DUCK ROLL, CHICKEN LETTUCE WRAP, BEEF NEGIMAKI, SHRIMP SHUMAI, and PORK GOYZA. For an entree here are some of my favorites: TUNA & SALMON FANS- Sushi (4 pieces each of tuna and salmon) and a spicy tuna and spicy salmon roll, and Miso Soup and Green Salad with Ginger Dressing. SPICY MAKI COMBINATION-Spicy yellowtail roll, spicy tuna roll and spicy salmon roll it also comes with Miso Soup and Green Salad with Ginger Dressing. SUSHI DELUXE-10 pieces of sushi and 1 tuna roll, Miso Soup and Green Salad with Ginger Dressing. For Rolls I enjoy, CRAZY TUNA ROLL- Peppered tuna and avocado inside, topped with spicy tuna, spicy mayo, masago and tempura flakes. FUJI HANA ROLL-Spicy tuna, spicy salmon, spicy yellowtail crunch, with pink soybean seaweed. I have also tried their BEEF SLIDERS AND FRIES which I enjoy. I also love their BEEF UDON NOODLES If your into HIBACHI they have all different varieties. I've never tried it, but I know it's very popular, so I would definitely recommend making a reservation. My favorite area is eating by the bar. Alex does such a good job with bartending and making KUMO 27 signature cocktails. Again, this place gets crazy busy especially on the weekends, so be prepared to wait. The atmosphere is casual and friendly. Jimmy M does a great job with Karaoke on Friday and Saturday nights after 9pm. It's very popular and there are a lot of regulars but everyone is welcomed to get up and sing. Sometimes on the weekend there is live bands. This is such a fun place to celebrate a birthday or special occasion. Owner Leon is always running around making sure everyone is happy. We were seated immediately on a Saturday evening at 6pm. However, we did not receive any water until we flagged down our waiter until 6:20pm. We ordered one salad, one appetizer, and three sushi rolls. Our sushi rolls did not arrive until 7:10pm. During this entire time, no one refilled our waters and we had to ask for plates and utensils for our salad and appetizer. We had overheard that the sushi bar was backed up so we can understand the delay in the food but no warning was given to us by our waiter. The food itself was mediocre and the quality seemed inadequate for the price we payed for the rolls. Rolls ranged from $14 to $18. We ended up not even finishing all our food because of the subpar quality. We did think that ambiance was fine but it seemed that the hibachi and bar areas were the main attractions. It was quiet when we were there, but there was a stage available so I assume that there is live music on occasion. The floors in the bathrooms were quite sticky and seemed unclean. We will not be returning to this establishment. However, there is a hibachi section that we did not see so we cannot comment about that aspect. read more

This restaurant has the standard hibachi fare. It is ok. The chef did the standard "show" while preparing the meal. The soup is nasty! The salad dressing is not very good. The ginger sauce is delicious and the chef made us a yummy garlic sauce. There is steak and filet mignon on the menu. Both taste good, but don't taste any different. So it is not worth the extra money for the filet! If possible, go for the lunch as it is a huge amount of food and half the price of dinner. read more

Staff is always so lovely. The hibachi is always amazing and their sushi tastes great. Prices are fair for the portion size. Definitely a great date night spot; and if you're not into sharing a table for the full hibachi experience, they now have cute pods to sit in the sushi section. Our Hibachi chef came to our table around 9:15, really seems a bit ridiculous for a 7:00 reservation. The chef did a very good job and the food was very good.
