We ordered sushi from this place after driving by for the last few years. The restaurant is close to home so it was worth a try. The prices are slightly lower than most places around me so I thought, why not? It could be ok. I was wrong. The rice under the nigiri was way over seasoned that the rice was mushy. There was a puddle of juices in the sushi deluxe container. It was so vinegary that it changed the color and texture of the fish. The maki rolls were ok but again, the taste of the rice over powered the gentle flavors of the fish. Sorry, but we will not be ordering again from Kumo. read more

Let me start by saying that the 2-Star review is not a reflection of the food, but rather the initial encounter with the staff. It's a medium sized venue, with its own lot for parking. It has a modern & clean appearance, with free Wi-Fi. The sushi was decent, not Amazing, but far from bad. We had the Dancing Eel Roll, & the Dynamite Roll. So, why 2-Stars? When we 1st walked in, the Hostess greeted us, & then as she was going to get menus started sneezing. The problem is she sneezed directly into her hands (Yes, both) on the 1st sneeze. Directly into her hands on the 2nd sneeze. Then, without cleaning her hands, grabbed both menus. To which while walking us to our table she sneezed a 3rd time & used what to cover her nose/mouth? THE MENUS!!! She then puts them on the table & walks away. I tried speaking on the matter, but the three staff members I interacted with, didn't speak English & often times wouldn't even acknowledge that I said something to them. One of those staff members noticed what happened. I could see her basically roll her eyes at the Sneezer, & brought us sanitizer & wipes for our hands, but didn't change the sneeze coated menus. We found this place for lunch and it was a good find. We were immediately seated since it wasn't busy, however the flow of people for take out has been consistent. The place looked quiet, clean with minimal decor. Our appetizers were tofu and soft shell crabs which were typical. We got lunch specials and it was a great bang for your buck. The feedback on angel roll was positive. We were full and had some leftovers! Too bad we didn't have room for dessert. The service from our waitress was fantastic. I really don't understand why this place has good reviews. I love Thai food! My absolute favorite Thai restaurant is Mira sushi in queens. However, we were home and decided to try another restaurant through Uber eats. This one had good reviews so we went for it. Honestly speaking, The sushi was not bad at all. Not great but was far from bad. The fried rice had no taste at all! It was so bland. The beef in the basil sauce was tasty, but the beef was so chewy. My husband couldn't eat it. Even my young children said that the sauce tasted good and the broccoli was good but they complained that they couldn't chew the beef. Wouldn't order from again. I have never been to Kumo physically, however, we started ordering here since the pandemic began. My son loves their chicken Katsu meal which comes with soup and salad plus lots of chicken. It's actually quite delicious. Super crispy and lightly salted. The fried oysters are great, however, I wish it came with more in the order. They are pretty big though, considering. The staff who answered the phone was well trained and always repeated my order at the end of the call to ensure accuracy. The estimated pick up time was reasonable and my order was usually ready to be picked up when I got there. I liked their pineapple fire rice a lot. The mango roll and the tempura shrimp roll were my favorite rolls, but other rolls tasted good too. The overall food quality was good. This is still my go to sushi spot in the area and for delivery, but, as I feared when I first stared going here earlier this year, consistency is an issue. Sometimes the Yellow Tail can be stringy and tough at times. The salmon was a bit grainy last time and when I picked up my sashimi what looked like a solid slab looked more like railroad tracks or a ladder of fish as it was suspended from chopsticks.. weird. I also have issues with rolls falling apart when you try to pick them up. Don't get me wrong, at this point, it is still my go to place - when I eat in I find the service is usually pretty good and efficient, I think they have pretty decent prices for their sushi and when the fish is good it is REALLY GOOD. I just don't like the unpredictability. So there it is.. knocking off a star to make the review more realistic for an everyday, neighborhood sushi place. read more

I do not normally post reviews, I wanted to allow them to make it right but was met with hostility and name calling. My family and I would dine at Kumo at least once a week, we never had an issue until now. When I called up to complain about the lack of eel in my rolls the woman showed concern and stated she would replace the rolls next time. I went the next day and the woman changed her tune. A male employee became combative and started to call me stupid and said to go to McDonald's. Is that an Anti American slur? "A dumb Amercian who eats a lot of fast food." This is my first time coming here so I decided to do takeout. I ordered from the lunch menu which ends at 4pm and decided to get a chicken teriyaki and a beef teriyaki. I noted to them that I have a seafood allergy and they accommodated nicely for the dumplings and the sushi. The lunch bento box comes with miso soup, white rice and salad which is the cups in the photo. My boyfriend and I were so excited to try the food. Everything was so delicious.
