Came by after the movies with a friend because we had a taste for sushi. When we walked in there was a 20 minute wait so we walked around outside then came back. I would say this place is pretty small, definitely on the more intimate side. There was only one waitress who also doubled as the hostess as well. She was nice. The sushi was okay and the noodles were good. This seems to be a spot for the locals as I realized a lot of people in there knew the waitress on a first name basis. To eat we had: -vegetable gyoza : it was just okay. -shumai: pretty tasty. -eel: good but was served cold. -black dragon: very good. I just love love love Love mikado! The fish is super fresh and the service stellar. Whenever I'm in NY I try to make my way there for the good yummy sushi. This time along with sushi I ordered the hibachi and it was sooooo good. The salmon was so well prepared with perfect crispy skin and tasty sauce. The veggies and rice were really nice. Not even 24 hours ago I told fellow elite, Matthew K. how it would take some time before I'd write up my review for our dinner last night at Mikado. After sleeping on it (the thought not the restaurant) I decided the place deserved to be reviewed posthaste! One glimpse at Matt's review might give you some insight into the reasonings behind why some rapid writing is needed, but if you're already invested in my words, much of what he says are the same sentiments as mine. For starters, the ambiance. Mikado doesn't have a fancy exterior (in fact, from the street it looks like a run-of-the-mill Asian cuisine spot), but once inside, you're transported to Japan. The decor is perfect in setup with a calming feeling from bottom to top (take a look at the bamboo across the ceiling). The music also sets a casually calming mood and gets you ready to roll. Sushi roll? Well at Mikado, a large portion of their menu is this variety of Japanese fare, but you'll also find plenty of other options. Matthew K. is a bento box kinda guy and I must say, for what you receive, it's definitely worth the price. I was looking to try and cover my choices as best I could and went with one roll (angry dragon) and an order of Japanese chicken fried rice. We also split some pork gyoza and edamame for the table. You can't go wrong with soy beans to start, and now I know that every future visit to Mikado will have to involve gyoza. Seriously, these were next to perfect in their level of fried, tender, porky flavor. From here, things slowed down quite a bit before we got our sushi and main dishes. It's understandable when you notice there's only one person manning the sushi bar, but this still had me initially thinking four stars...more on that in a sec. Once the rolls and such did arrive, it was all systems go! My angry dragon roll had great flavoring through its creamy yet semi-spicy combination. The fried rice was a huge, hot, bowl with plenty of legitimate chicken pieces and enough to leave me with leftovers (lunch today!). I also tried a piece of the green envy roll which was exotically different through the sweet banana flavor, but definitely worthy of a full order in the future. There was tastiness from start to finish, food-wise. So how'd we go from four to five stars? The service. Our waitress was bustling all night, constantly refilling water and tea while letting us know that our food would be coming shortly. The owners also did their part in making us welcome by thanking us for coming and saying sorry for the time it took for us to get the food. It was totally unnecessary to apologize as it gave our table time to talk and catch up. Plus, most importantly, as you watched the sushi being made from behind the bar, you could tell that time and patience was being put into each roll. The presentation was beautiful and it matched in taste. I'd gladly wait a little longer for my food when I know it's coming from someone who cares about the customer, and these humble, kind (and funny!) owners definitely do. Overall, Mikado is a lovely little Japanese restaurant that Matthew K. stated perfectly as a "hidden gem in Lynbrook." Knowing both he and Mikado are located down there gives me double the reason to return. Now having written all this, I can't wait to get back in the area...to see Matt, of course...not for the delicious Japanese food from Mikado, heh heh. read more

We are extremely happy with our first experience with Mikado. We did a delivery order (not third party app, the restaurant delivered to us) and the food was here very fast. We've been so disappointed lately with our regular go-to Sushi spots in the Five Towns area; we had 3 regular places for the last 8 years and all 3 have been very disappointing lately, so we tried Mikado for the first time, extra happy that they delivered to Hewlett from Lynbrook (many restaurants don't). We only ordered a few things so I'll update next time we get more food (which will be very soon! And really want to try the hibachi - the lunch specials also look great) but anyway the sashimi was ON POINT. SOOOO fresh. I also got a regular spicy tuna roll with added mango and it was delicious. Nothing fancy but it was fresh af and delicious. I'll update soon when I get to try more of the food but we're just really happy to have found our new sushi joint. Ordering again asap ! Edited to add that the prices were also pretty good. Everyone has been going up in price like crazy (down in quality) but Mikado's prices were very reasonable, at least for what we ordered. Used to be a great place to order delivery from. The prices went up, but that's not the worst part. For the second time they've failed to show up after an hour and 15, and refused to refund the money, only offering a credit. I accepted the credit the first time, but this time will be reporting the charge as fraud. You can't not delver my food and keep my money. read more

Since this location changed owners, I've been coming here probably once per week on average. The quality and service are stronger than ever here! I've had the chance to chat with the owners on a few occasions and they are truly wonderful! While I've mostly been ordering takeout, I had the chance to finally dine in with my wife and Dad the other night. We each ordered the chicken teriyaki bento box (except for my wife opted for the sushi bento box), which left us all feeling incredibly satisfied at a bargain price of $14.95 per box. Included in this price are miso soup, house salad, chicken teriyaki (a generous portion size), California roll, white rice and mixed veggies. Everything we tasted was incredibly fresh, as if we were dining in somebody's home. The ambiance enhanced the experience further with quiet spa-like music and pleasant decor. And again, the service here is terrific. The staff really makes you feel right at home and does everything they can to deliver a wonderful experience. Mikado is a hidden gem in Lynbrook and is better than ever! I highly recommend visiting if you're in the area and looking for some delicious cuisine. read more

i would have given them I higher rating, however I could not because I order through UberEats. I ordered the "Lunch Roll Special" which was supposed to come with a free miso soup or green salad. I did not receive that part of my order. I ALSO noticed that the UberEats lunch is priced $4.50 MORE than what is on the menu. That is an unfair upcharge for those who are discovering a restaurant from UBER. I must say that the rolls i ordered (Philly Roll, Kani Roll, and Shrimp Tempura Roll) were tasty. These small sushi shops are all the same. Same rolls that all taste the same. Yeah, Mikado has "special" rolls for under $10. But the price is reflected in the size of the roll. Same size as any basic roll. I had the Sweetheart Roll and the Manhattan Roll. Like I said, after a few bites, they both tasted similar.
