Sometimes the wait time is a little long when you call. What I truly appreciate though is the staff are very caring and will always make time for their patients. Yesterday I took my son to the ER at 5am. Before the office even opened someone had read the report and called me with advice and to get us in same day for an appointment. Ashley the NP came up with a treatment protocol that none of the ER drs had even suggested. She has excellent bedside manner and is the only medical professional that my son has allowed to look in his ears. After a really stressful day I was so grateful for the team for taking the initiative to call me and get us ok the schedule. Thank you all so much!

One time, I had a concern about something but didn't necessarily need an appointment for it, and he called me later that day to talk about it. I don't feel awkward asking him questions. Now, sometimes he does work fast, BUT if you have any questions, he is happy to answer them. Now, a lot of the time, there is a wait. One time, I had a 10:30am appt and didn't leave till 12:30pm. Other times have been fast, though. I feel like the front staff are generally nice. All in all I'd say Dr. Saul is worth it.

It has become increasingly difficult to find providers who will truly take the time to listen and problem-solve rather than categorize patients based on diagnosis. Too often, families are sent on their way with little guidance and the hope that things will somehow work out. Out of the 60+ doctors we have seen during my child's 15 years, we can count on one hand the providers who didn't treat us like just another number. We feel very fortunate to have found Dr. Chi, first through Los Robles Pediatrics and now at Coastal Kids. While our medical journey has been challenging, Dr. Chi has remained professional, compassionate, and incredibly dedicated. She consistently goes above and beyond to ensure my child feels seen and heard, which is rare these days. If she doesn't immediately have an answer, she takes the time to research and always follows up with one. Her guidance has been instrumental in helping us find specialists for my child's complex diagnoses. We were also thrilled when the office transitioned to Coastal Kids. As ocean lovers, we absolutely love the nautical-themed office. The environment is clean, welcoming, and well organized, and we especially appreciate the separate entrances for well and sick patients. The entire front office staff has been wonderful. The impact of this interaction was significant. My daughter left the appointment visibly upset and felt so uncomfortable that she does not want to return for follow‑up care or proceed with the recommended treatment plan. This experience showed a serious lack of professionalism, empathy, and respect for a patient, especially an adolescent who is at a highly impressionable age. Then she proceeds to tell me 4 different times how important it is to "get the hours in". Making assumptions about our morning and afternoon routine. We have a 5 minute drive to and from school, and she's in school for 6 hours. From other reviews it looks like she's one of the only options in the area. I would rather sit in my car, in traffic for an hour and a half, and have a 20-30 minute wait, than wait 2 hours for a 5 minute condescending opinion from a doctor who makes assumptions.

I'm guessing that large medical corporations serve a wider variety of clients, often across the entire country, so some are unreliable and do things without discussing with their drs, ergo the corporate CYA policies. Ok, but that's not me, and the independent drs I've always seen know that. Computers do not. I'm now 65 and the doctors I was with for 25+ years straight are retiring sadly. Or going "concierge" style. I got a phone message saying that my dr won't be in the day my next appt is set after all. AGAIN!! ! Each time it's ANOTHER 3-4 months before they can fit me in. Because of my fatigue added to being a lifelong "night owl", I can only do afternoon appts. I can't get to sleep until at least 3 am most nights. I also had to change my phone's "do not disturb" settings because UCLA calls at 7 am. All my life I have been taught it's rude to call others at home before 9 am. So I never get to talk to the office or person that called, since when I call back it's routed to that call center. Extremely impersonal. No one there has ANY medical training, not even receptionist level, all they do is look for open spaces on a computer screen. No empathy, and zero offers of any other way to schedule an appointment or ask a question- you have to push for any of that. When I use the app, I can interact directly with my dr's office, but it's still a series of steps from who reads my message, to a nurse or other medical assistant, to the dr, then back to me. This leads to very poor information sharing. I prefer a much more individualized approach.
