Kung Fu Tea is great! The staff work very quickly to place the orders and make the teas so there is not much waiting. I also have run into problems with other local bubble tea shops that they are out of bubbles. This has never happened to me at Kung Fu. The bubbles are large and taste great. I also usually change my tea a lot (milk tea, less sugar, less ice) and they always get it right. The price of one tea is a bit expensive but is typical of bubble tea (~$5 with tax for a large). Atmosphere is nice with a fake fireplace to get warm by on a chilly day! Highly recommend for bubble tea in the back bay area. read more

Kung Fu Tea is my favorite bubble tea spot, but at this location staff need to be more clear about which drinks can be made vegan and what options are available. Much of the menu, while lactose-free, still contains casein, a milk protein, which is not vegan. Soy milk is available, but staff seem hesitant to confirm if the drink will be vegan or not. I just ordered a Piña Colada Slush and asked twice to make sure it was vegan, and was told loud and clear that it was. Unfortunately, it is not, according to the ingredients list. When wall in it is a little confusing where the line starts because people are standing all over. You should walk in and go to the right if no one is there. They are really helpful with information as to what kind of drinks you should get. Since this was my first time it was good. They give you a number but you need to stand at the pickup because they dont call out the number pretty loud especially when it is packed. The was a cute little King Fu tea tucked away. We have been to one before so we kind of knew tee drill for how to order. First you choose the size and type you want. I opted for a Taro Slush. If you haven't had Taro you should try it. It's a little nutty tasting, but is a starchy root vegetable. It is sweet and delicious. I know it sounds weird but I swear it's great. Second you tell them how sweet you want it. I went with 100% which was overboard, I think next time I will go for 50% then you tell them additions, we went for tapioca. My kids got the Matcha Milk Tea. Everything tasted great and they quickly made it up. I am taking off one star because I had a 10% discount for checking in there on yelp, and the guy kind of smarted off to me how I should have told him first and what an inconvenience it was to do. Nothing said you had to tell them up front but I was a little put off about his reaction. If you don't want people to check in then don't offer the discount! Great location, great ambience (pleasant decor and a cool modern pseudo-fireplace), with tons more seating than most locations I've been to. A great place to hangout and get a late night treat with a friend or two. Every staff member I've interacted with at this location has been very professional-- friendly, efficient, attentive. I accidentally spilled my drink the other night and they graciously made me another one and insisted on thoroughly cleaning the table where I'd spilled my drink, even though I'd already wiped it all up with napkins. The atmosphere is great and there is plenty of space inside. The line can get long (and seating sparse) at peak hours, but even during peak hours the staff is fast at getting orders ready. My favorite part about the tea is the boba. They marinate the boba in honey, which makes them sweet and yummy. There's a vast selection to pick from, which can be overwhelming at first. Bubble tea has always been one of my favorite treats and Kung Fu Tea never disappoints. There are so many choices on the menu so I always find myself trying something new when I'm there. I most recently tried the coconut milk tea with coconut boba and loved it! It wasn't too sweet and the boba tasted great. While Cha Time is another great bubble tea option in the area, I always choose KFT. I haven't quite pinpointed what makes it better, but my finished product here has always been of higher quality. Each drink is mixed very well so you don't get anything floating around or separating which I've experienced with other bubble tea in the past. I do wish there were more seating options inside the shop but limited seating isn't out of the ordinary in Boston. Can't wait to come back here soon! read more

I feel like most Kung Fu Teas are 3.5 star rated - some love it, some hate it. I actually loved half of my order and disliked the other half, so it works out perfectly. Wonderful, chewy, honey-soaked bubbles, but my tea wasn't the best. My friend ordered a 50% sugar tea and I ordered a 30% tea. The 50% sugar tea was fine, but the sugar I did taste felt very artificial. My 30% tea was almost tasteless. The location is huge though, with plenty of seating if you're in the area to do some work or socializing. And I savored each bite of my tapioca bubbles - unfortunately, the rest of the liquid was mediocre and I didn't feel great after drinking the whole thing (maybe because of the powder that bubble tea is always made out of?) read more

I normally love Kung fu tea. I saw a promo that they got a new recipe for their Thai Tea, which I wanted to check out immediately since it's one of my favorite flavors. I was disappointed in the taste of the new recipe. It was almost bitter and didn't have much flavor to it. Something about it was just off. I also asked for less ice, but seemed to have gotten a normal level of ice. The tea itself was awkwardly fatty; as I drank it, my mouth was coated with fat and felt thick and greasy. Not only this, but they messed up my order and gave me a milk tea instead of a matcha tea. It was nice out today so I decided to walk over and get a bubble tea. I recently was at the Allston location and had a delicious oolong with aloe cubes and wanted to repeat that. I couldn't. The guy behind the counter told me they have a large internet order, I think I overheard someone said 16 beverages, so they wouldn't take any orders for 15 minutes. Wow, but it's a nice day so I wait. After about 12 minutes I follow in some different customers, to which a different employee says the wait will be about 10 minutes, there was a larger order ahead of them. I saw them turn down at least 15 customers while I was waiting. with the wait estimate getting longer and longer I gave up, unfortunately, cuz I still want that damn tea! Idk if I'll walk all the way back to this location, but I'll go to Allston because they have the aloe jelly which I'm not entirely sure this place does. It's a free market and they can do business however they want, but i would have had 2 of my 4-6 employees working on the big order, who wasn't even at the store, while the the others served us lesser customers who only wanted one beverage :/ read more

Inconsistent is the best word to describe this place. They serve two types of boba, black and clear, depending on the day. The regular black boba usually tastes pretty good but the clear boba is almost always never sweet. Usually when I get the black boba I would give it 4 stars, my only complaint is that they never give enough boba!!!! When it's the clear boba, I would give it 1 star because I simply cannot stand boba that is not sweet. Oh also, it seems like they are under staffed (2 staffs?), or maybe they're just inefficient. This location is right by the BSO and at a corner with a red mango smoothie place that's also a subway. This store is def cleaner, larger, and has more tables so people can chill there. I got my drink to go and I just want to mention... they use such good quality cups and lids! I mean, you can feel the weight of the cups and it's not flimsy at all. I don't like my drinks too sweet so I got it with less sugar and it was just right. The boba is very firm and chewy, not soggy. It's located at the intersection of Mass Ave and Huntington Ave.) They use lactaid milk, which makes my lactose-intolerant body so happy. You can also customize the amount of sugar and ice in your drink. (I tend to get little sugar, little ice since let's face it - the bobas have been soaking in simple syrup.) After my third visit to Kung Fu Tea, I've decided I'm a fan. The tea is good, the boba is soft, chewy, & sweet, the staff is nice enough. The shop is really clean, contemporary, bright, & spacious, allowing students or just a person with computer things to work until they close their doors. There's free WiFi; the password is printed on your receipt. Each drink is perfectly customizable so you can get more or less ice, more or less boba + jelly, &/or more or less sugar. I'm used to seeing food options at boba shops, but I suppose it's good that KFT has some baked goods instead of popcorn chicken or what not. Definitely helps to discourage random snacking. One comment I have to make: there's a fairly new female employee who is really loud. I'm glad she works in a place where she has made friends really quickly & has fun with them, but there's no need to shout about your life story (honestly, I have no idea what she's saying because it's not in a language I understand) to your co-worker who is a foot away from you. Can you tell by the number of check-ins that I kind of like Kung Fu Tea? I was introduced to bubble tea by my roommate, and I have yet to have better bubble tea than what I've had here. It's a tad disappointing because they are a chain, but if you can't beat 'em, join 'em! I'm a creature of habit, so my go-to tea is always the Coffee Milk Tea with bubbles (duh). It's the perfect balance of sweet and refreshing, and the tapioca bubbles - which are always cooked to perfection, might I add - make the tea that much more fun and enjoyable! I have also had their Pineapple Sunshine drink, and I happen to really like it. Caution: it comes with a heck of a lot of pulp, so if you're not a fan, don't get it! What makes this Kung Fu Tea location even better is, well, their location! It's conveniently located right off of Huntington Ave., which is the best and worst thing I could possible ask for. With it's prime location comes a hefty amount of tea drinkers, but regardless of their traffic, I've never had to wait more than 5 minutes total for my tea, from ordering to picking up on the other end of the counter. This place can fit a large crowd. I thought it was so silly to have literally 5-6 staff members behind the counter at once. 2 of them at the register and the rest chatting away loudly behind them. Either they are overstaffed or half of them are friends pretending to work there! I got the Wow Kung Fu Milk tea I saw advertised outside the window. I initially thought "Wow" was to make it sounds cool. I didn't know "Wow" actually meant with lactose-free milk. I actually found it through reading the reviews on Yelp. Either way I didn't taste a difference. I'm cool w/ or w/o it. My freshly made drink was warm at first but eventually cooled down after stirring around the ice. The warm milk briefly reminded me of warm milk you drink as a baby and I really liked that. KFT is what I wish Connecticut had more of because their boba is just the right consistency. Not overcooked and mushy but not under-cooked (raw/half hard/half soft). Plus no powdery artificial after-taste. The boba is fresh, soft, chewy, and bursting with honey. The milk tea is OK. I had the golden oolong milk tea with boba (half sugar, less ice), and Alex had the Milk green tea with boba (half sugar, less ice). For both of us, the milk tea part was insubstantial and all we cared about was the honey boba. Overall, I'd only get it for the honey boba. If I wanted actual milk tea, I think I'd still go to Chatime. read more
