I've heard rumors that KFT is better in the Northeast, because it originated up here. I didn't believe it since I assumed they used the same recipe. After trying and comparing, I swear something was different about their Oolong Milk Tea. It was a good different. A tad bit creamier, richer, silkier. The tapioca pearls were noticeably different.. being white instead of the black I'm used to. They were soft but not mushy. Chewy but not sticky. Apparently white is the original color of tapioca pearls, and the black pearls get their color with the addition of brown sugar. I was impressed with the white pearls since I haven't seen this in the boba shops in Texas. This shop was conveniently located near Northeastern and the Museum of Fine Arts. As a fan of bubble tea, you can't go wrong with Kung Fu Tea. It's a chain, but popular for a reason. I recommend the straight up bubble milk tea with light ice and medium sweet (they will ask you what level of ice and sweetness). If you like bubbles, order them to suck up with your drink (that sounds gross, but it's so good!). read more

I think the drink you get here really determines the quality of the drink here. Although Kung Fu Tea is a chain, I feel that there is a huge variation across the stores. The boba quality is good here but I've realized that certain drinks would taste top grade with the right amount of sugar (at least for me) such as the matcha latte but the taro slushie would be way over how much sugar amount it needed and I wouldn't want to finish it. I think to balance this, I suggest the staff to ask for preferred sugar levels. I definitely would come back to try and rate the black milk tea again. read more

The "Northeastern' stop of the green line of the T was a short walk away. Around 5 p.m. this Saturday, my friend and I were served immediately. The service was efficient. Both drinks came within five minutes. This review is specifically for the medium size $4.01 Longan Jujube with mung beans. This beverage was sugary. As this drink was made out of syrup, you could not adjust the sweetness level. The sweetness level could be adjusted for the milk teas. I couldn't taste the Jujube flavor. The Jujube should have a herbal flavor. The filler was $0.50 each. It was interesting to discover the mung beans were not as sweet as the red beans. The decor was clean with a modern fireplace. One of my favorite boba spots near campus to stop by! The convenience is great as the Symphony T station is right in front of the store and Mass Ave T station is few minutes walking distance away. The line can get long during certain hours and the majority of customers are college students around the area. I always tell myself that I should try new drinks every time I come here, but i always end up getting the milk green tea 50% sugar with boba. The only downside is that I don't really come here to study anymore because the music is always loud and there aren't enough outlets. Great place for some bubble tea in the city. Conveniently located right next to symphony station (green line) and has a few plugs and free wifi for people if you want to sit and do work. Only problem is, the place can get a bit noisy when the the KFT workers are using their blenders. Overall, place is nice. There are plenty of seats, warning though, I wouldn't sit near the bathrooms which is at the far back left (it can be a bit smelly to sit near it). There are macarons here but I haven't tried them yet. The only drink I come here for is the Jasmine Green Milk tea! Get it cold/hot it's so good. This location unfortunately charges tax so it does add a bit more to their already pricey drinks. I do love their drinks either way though. Kung Fu Tea has solid drinks that don't disappoint! I've never had anything here that I thought wasn't good or had to be remade. What I like the most is that you can choose different levels of sweetness and ice, so you can customize as you like. They don't have very many flavors, but definitely the standard green teas, taro, honey, red bean, passion fruit, mango etc. (I have yet to find a good almond milk tea in Boston *supersadface.. ) I've gotten both hot and cold drinks here-- For cold, I really like the honey green tea, the milk tea, and the red bean milk drink with lactose free milk. That's another awesome thing about Kung Fu! They have lactose free milk drinks available! YAY For hot, I usually just get the regular milk tea. Pretty good bubble tea. I had the large almond milk tea($4.75) with bubbles (additional $0.50) as well as a green tea macaron ($2.50). My bubble tea was delicious, although I thought they were a bit slow (there wasn't anybody but me waiting for my drink but the girl was doing something else while the guy who took my order went in back). The green tea macaron was a huge disappointment. Very bland with just a slight hint of green tea. I thought it would be more flavorful because it was so intensely green. I would definitely avoid getting any macarons and just stick to the bubble tea, especially with the high price per macaron. If you insist on having a macaron go to Whole Foods and get one of their green tea ones ($1.99). There's a decent amount of seating, free wifi, and free outlets to charge your electronics with. The place is well lit and very clean. The staff were nice enough. Overall, for Back Bay, this is a nice convenient bubble tea place, but I've definitely had good bubble tea for much cheaper in Chinatown. I've occasionally ventured out of the realm of Tea Do to get my boba tea fix and I always come back to Tea Do because I find that other places just don't compare! I stopped by Kung Fu tea this past weekend for the first time and I REALLY enjoyed my experience here (and I'm also glad I decided to venture out). I got their milk green tea drink and I loved it so much. It's much better than the one Tea Do offers because this tasted creamy and fragrant with a very prominent (but not overpowering) green tea flavor. It's difficult to describe the taste of it but it's unlike any boba tea drink I've ever had!! The boba is also different from Tea Do's- it's a hit and miss. Some are cooked well and some aren't, whereas, at Tea Do, their boba is always fully cooked. Kung Fu Tea's boba is also very sweet, much sweeter than Tea Do's, but that's something I don't mind! This Kung Fu Tea location is wide, spacious, clean, and welcoming. It does get a bit packed here but once you find a seat/the line thins out, the atmosphere is relaxing. Though the drinks are a bit pricier (one of the reasons why I've always resorted to Tea Do instead), I wouldn't mind coming back here again to try their wide selection of flavors. In the Bay Area, new boba and milk tea shops pop up every couple of weeks and I always feel like they're within arms-reach whenever I get a craving for some tapioca goodness. So when I moved to Boston and after tasting disappointment at a handful of other cafes, I thought I was sh*t outta luck in terms of finding the perfect place to get my milk tea fix. That is, until I stumbled upon Kung Fu one day while walking home from a spin class. That first time, I decided to play it safe and get the honey green tea with herbal jelly. Not expecting much, I was very surprised at how well-balanced the drink was! Since then, I've gone on to try other drinks, but my current go-to is the KF milk green tea with herbal jelly and pearls. A flawless mix of sweet, creamy, and a little bit of a floral aftertaste from the tea, it's probably the best boba I've had in Beantown. And since ice and sugar levels are customized according to customer preference, you really can't go wrong. However, they tend to run out of pearls at times, so you might have to wait 10-15 minutes while they cook up a fresh batch, or forego bubbles all together. The seating area is also very large and spacious with tons of tables and outlets, making it prime real estate for plopping down and getting some work done for a few hours. However, my Green Milk Tea with Boba and Less Sugar came out unmixed (sips with too much sweetener and then other sips with unmixed condensed milk). The boba was very unsparing and tasted somewhat off. Kung Fu Tea is great! The staff work very quickly to place the orders and make the teas so there is not much waiting. I also have run into problems with other local bubble tea shops that they are out of bubbles. This has never happened to me at Kung Fu. The bubbles are large and taste great. I also usually change my tea a lot (milk tea, less sugar, less ice) and they always get it right. The price of one tea is a bit expensive but is typical of bubble tea (~$5 with tax for a large). Atmosphere is nice with a fake fireplace to get warm by on a chilly day! Highly recommend for bubble tea in the back bay area. read more
