Food and service are fantastic! We had the clam chowder and fish and chips. All very delicious and I would definitely recommend.

I've had Digby's now a few times, twice through delivery and once dine-in. Of course, the fish and chips were better in person, freshly fried and super crispy, but delivery was pretty good as well and easy to crisp up in the air fryer for a minute or two if you felt necessary. The portion sizes are quite good. I had the haddock for delivery and it was still crispy enough but not super deep-fried, maybe even pan-fried. It was tasty, not overcooked, and came with thicker cut chip truck style fries that weren't super crispy and would've been great with salt and malt vinegar if they had any. I had the Alaskan pollock during dine-in because they have an all-you-can-eat fish and chips special every Tuesday and Saturday and the pollock is the only fish available for the special. The fries were thinner and crispier this time, but less fries and more fish, which I enjoyed.. maybe a little too much because I had five pieces haha They were definitely battered and fried and somehow now super heavy since I had so many, even though they were small- to medium-size pieces. They also give you each coleslaw and fresh lemon slices, and a bottle of tartar sauce for the table. Service was quick and friendly, not too packed for a weekday lunch. I've also had the salmon dish and chowder for delivery. The fresh Atlantic salmon is in the Fish Fillets section, but it's actually a salmon steak. You can get it grilled, baked, or poached. I got it poached and chose seasonal vegetables and mashed potatoes as my sides. The fish was a good portion and everything was cooked perfectly. The steamed vegetables were mostly broccoli and cauliflower, but I didn't mind. The meal itself was actually quite plain and nothing really seasoned, which makes it great for those watching their sodium, for example. I asked for butter and lemon and added them myself plus the salt and pepper I had at home. The clam chowder was good, but not consistent. The first time it wasn't very hot and was more classic, creamier with potatoes. The second time it was piping hot, a little less creamy and more peppery, and had other veggies like celery, corn, and shredded carrots, and fresh parsley. Both were good, but different. I wish they had oyster crackers or something to go with it as well. Will definitely have Digby's again! read more

It's been a while since I've been in this place in the summer. But at 32'C outside, no A/C but 4 Dewalt fans moving the air it looks like this place is trying to cut a lot of costs. The place used to be a Joey's and the decors is the same as when the Joey's opened 24 years ago (with the wear and tear). The food is okay, but with the temperature being so warm in there it was difficult to really enjoy the meal. read more

I had dinner at Digby's with my husband and father-in-law. Overall, the food was good. Decor was kitschy nautical, but the place looked a bit rundown. To my father-in-law's chagrin, they do not have a liquor license. I had the Salmon Dinner ($19.75). You can have the salmon baked, grilled, or poached. I chose baked. It also comes with 2 sides and I got a tossed salad and steamed vegetables. The salmon itself was delicious. I loved the seasoning on it. It was a steak instead of a filet, but they removed the bones and sort of flipped it inwards, so the skin was in the centre (if you look at my picture, you'll see what I mean). I have never had a salmon steak presented to me like that, but I liked it. The vegetables were just steamed carrots, broccoli and cauliflower. They were not too mushy, but not too al dente either, so just right. I really liked that they didn't drench the vegetables in oil or butter. Instead they give packets of butter on the side (I didn't use any though). The tossed salad was romaine lettuce, with cucumbers, tomatoes, red cabbage, green and red peppers, celery and onions. Ingredients were fresh, but I found the salad a bit boring. Maybe a crunchy element to give it some texture or a more exotic ingredient to give it some oomph would be a good addition. I asked for balsamic dressing on the side and it arrived as requested. My husband had the Crab Cakes Dinner ($18.50). It also came with 2 sides and he got fries and a Ceasar salad. His meal had 2 crab cakes and they were deep-fried. He said they were good and he could taste the crab. I had some of his fries and they were just ok in my opinion. They weren't too crispy and they tasted too starchy to me. His Caesar salad was romaine lettuce, powdered parmesan and croutons. No bacon. (On the way out I noticed a sign that said that the restaurant is Halal, which explains why the Caesar salad didn't have bacon and why there is no liquor license). And he got some bonus coleslaw too. My father-in-law had the Shrimp Dinner ($19.95) which consisted of 10 shrimp, either lemon butter, garlic, Cajun, or battered, and he got them battered. His dinner also came with 2 sides and he got fries and coleslaw. He also opted to get an add-on of battered scallops for an additional $6. I tried a shrimp and a scallop and I was impressed with the size of the shrimp. It was pretty large and tasted good. The scallops were a bit smaller, but also good. The batter on both was pretty thick though and they were definitely greasy. I was happy to try one, but I would not have wanted a plate of them. Service was friendly, but very casual. It's a very casual type of restaurant. I would say more of a place to take the hungry kids to eat, or a place to go when you don't want to cook, as opposed to a nice evening out. The atmosphere felt like a diner to me. Less of a corporate feel than Denny's or Perkins, but I think the same level of casualness. Decor was nautical-themed and a bit kitschy with fake lobster traps and plastic fish adorning the walls and shelves, and marine life painted on the walls. The booths looked a bit dated, but that might be part of the diner-esque charm. It was incredibly busy with dine-in guests and customers getting takeout. The restaurant is in The Centrum, to the left of the Chapters and Walmart, near the Dollarama. Plenty of free parking. read more

Made an order through SkipTheDishes using their online menu but my order was canceled for no apparent reason. The customer service when I came to the store to pick up the order was horrible. The person was annoyed that she had to check why the order was not ready. My colleagues, whose orders were fulfilled, said that the fries had a bitter taste and smelled like old oil. I had really high hopes for this place and I'm hoping maybe tonight was just an off night. I ordered take out, and the waitress was so helpful and accommodating -- a complete delight! The food, however, was a total miss -- the blackened snapper tasted super funky, and the fried fish was very, very oily. We travel and eat a lot of seafood, as well as prepare it at home; fresh fish shouldn't never smell "fishy" and this really did. The garlic potatoes were delicious, though, and the steamed vegetables were cooked well. read more

Located in the centrum near the Subway store in kanata this fish and chip spot is pretty darn good. A group of 4 of us went there for lunch on a Friday and it wasn't that busy. We all got the shrimp, scallop and Pollock plate with different side dishes. The food over all was delicious and the side dishes were great also. The main Pollock pieces were a bit on the small side and a bit greasy but I suppose I can't expect more from fried fish. Overall experience including service was great enough to warrant a second or third visit! read more

My boyfriend and I decided to check this place out since he had a craving for fish and chips and on Tuesdays, they do all they can eat on their Alaskan Pollock. Worst decision ever. The fish was extremely greasy, to the point where all we could taste was greae. They were decent sized pieces but that's all that was decent about them. Both of us felt a bit queasy after eating. When we told the waiter (who had been pleasant and helpful up to that point) our issue with the fish, he told us that he was sorry to hear that but it was in a tone that came off as a "too bad but just suck it up" kind of deal. Overall it was not a great experience and while the prices were not an exorbitant amount, it's definitely not worth it for what you get. read more

My husband and I just stopped into Digby's in Kanata for lunch. We have never been here before but we came in on a good day. It's all you can eat fish and chips. The fish was absolutley yummy, very light and fresh, great tasting batter and not greasy. The fries were also very nice. The coleslaw was a little bland but ok. Nice quiet atmosphere, maybe just a little outdated but very clean. Our waitress was very friendly and attentive. We are coming back for sure!! We have found our go-to fish and chips place in Kanata!! Recommend you give them a go. read more

I used to go to this location all the time as a kid with my family, back when it was Joey's Seafood. My mother and I decided to re-visit this place for some good ol' fish n' chips for dinner, and hadn't realized that the restaurant's name had changed to Digby's! The interior looked exactly the same as I had remembered it from childhood. Paintings of the sea, with fake fish and sharks on the walls. So cute and cozy, with a great seafood aroma in the restaurant! There were plenty of appetizing options listed on the menu, but we had solely come for the fish and chips. I chose the the Haddock, while my mother settled for the Alaskan Pollock. The waitress was genuinely kind, funny, and warm. She made us really feel at home, and gave us a couple of laughs. I believe she was the owner of the restaurant. I really liked the service here! It didn't take long before our meals arrived, and the kind waitress brought out an extra piece of Haddock, since the other two pieces were relatively smaller in size than my mother's Alaskan Pollock. Our meals consisted of: battered, and deep fried fish, fries, and coleslaw, with ketchup and tartar sauce as condiments. My mother and I exchanged our pieces of fish, and dug into our meals. I really liked the Alaskan Pollock, because of the smooth texture of the fish with the contrasting crunchiness of the batter. While my mother adored the Haddock for its extra fishy taste and chewy texture. We both enjoyed eachother's choices more! The fries and coleslaw were delicious as well! The prices were reasonable, $14.00 for two pieces of Haddock fish and chips (with fries and coleslaw), and $11.00 for the two piece Alaskan Pollock meal. My only complaint would have to be that when my mother ordered an extra piece of fish, the small piece of fish came back amounting to $6.00 for the one piece, and came without fries and/or coleslaw accompanying it. It seemed a bit too expensive for an extra tiny piece. Nevertheless, I really enjoyed this restaurant, the great fish and chips, and the wonderful service! It was an OK dinner of grilled salmon, mashed potatoes, a ceasar salad, and apple/cinamon pie with vanilla ice cream for desert. The salmon was well grilled but tasted a bit too much of the grill than of salmon. The potatoes were fine. The ceasar salad was very basic with romaine lettuce, dressing, and sprinkled parmesan cheese. No olives, black pepper or croutons. The apple pie was not really fresh as in probably store bought, and was not that warm. The service was really good though and the staff very cheerful. So for a basic meal it's OK but not really a destination place to eat. read more

The service was the high point of the experience. The waitress was stellar and she made up for the mediocre food. I had the fish and chips and was dismayed by how much oil was left in the batter. Either the oil is not hot enough or it's old because the batter should have been dry and crispy, not soggy and dripping oil. The fries, as well, were soft and oily...and over salted. The coleslaw was good, though. LaPointe is still my first choice but I figured I'd give Digby's a try. It's sure not as good as Joey's. read more

I grew up on the east coast so I know good seafood when it's right in front of me and Digby's is exactly that. Great seafood. The ambience is okay, the service is good but the food is the best I've had in years. We have eaten a number of things there and they were all very, very good but in particular the fish and chips is to die for. Regardless of the type of fish. The batter is light and tasty and the fish is seasoned just right. The fries are good and the homemade coleslaw is also very good. If there is one concern it would be the lack of people eating there. Come on now we don't want this place to go out of business because nobody knows about it. That would be a big loss. So come on go EAT THERE. read more

I recently ended up going to Digby's because of my boyfriend's suggestion. I have now been there 3 times in one month! The first time we went - uttering the words "I won't be back here anytime soon, so might as well get the expensive stuff", we decided to each get a Captain's Plate (Pollock, Cod, Salmon, Haddock or Halibut). A seafood delight including clamstrips, popcorn shrimp, battered sea scallops and two pieces of fish. Served with your choice of 2 side dishes seasoned fries, mashed potatoes & gravy, garlic potatoes, coleslaw, rice, Caesar or tossed salad, seasonal vegetables. I got the salmon with seasonal vegetables and garlic potatoes and my boyfriend got the pollock with seasonal vegetables and fries. Sadly the seasonal vegetables included only a few bits of broccoli but the over all portion of the fries and fish was decent and we had to struggle to finish it. The plate included several fried clam strips, about 3-5 scallops and several shrimps. Overall I was very happy with our meal and was already talking about coming back again by the time we had finished eating. One week later we ventured back, I got the Crab cake dinner with garlic potatoes and seasonal veggies. Boyfriend got 3 piece pollock with fries and mushy peas. At this point we had had the same waitress from our previous trip and she was very patient and spoke clearly, and checked up on us often enough to inquire about if we needed refills on our drinks. I wasn't really happy with the crab cakes nor unhappy. But it did not hit the spot the way the deep fried fish would have. One week later we ventured back again, since the crab cakes hadn't quite hit the spot. This time I got a 2 piece pollock with fries and coleslaw, boyfriend got one piece cod and one piece haddock with fries and coleslaw. We also got an order of mussels in garlic sauce. It was my first time eating mussels so I only had a few, but my boyfriend enjoyed polishing off the remainders by himself. Over all I really love this place and the food. I find their tarter sauce to be extremely good and unique. Our servers and waitresses/waiters have all been excellent so my boyfriend and I always tried to leave a decent tip. Will definitely be going back there sometime soon! We have been there in the lunch hours and night hours and I think it's possible that they have different cooks. So at times the taste/texture of stuff is a bit different. read more

Oh How the Mediocre Have Fallen. Digby's took over "Joey's" fish and chips a couple of years ago. Then, I hoped that the average products would improve. For example, they'd stop using frozen fries. Well, that didn't happen. It's mid-July 2016 now, and we checked it out again, to satisfy a craving for deep fried clams. I should add that my family is from New Brunswick, and I have eaten in all maritime provinces over my vast number of years. This is *not* great seafood. We hesitated when we looked at the menu on the window, because the prices had almost doubled. Our quandry: is this because the quality has now almost doubled? That would be great. I'd pay these prices if so ($18 for fried clams and chips). I asked the server inside. She said oh yes, we've had a price increase, and the quantity has increased! The quality? Oh, yes, the quality is fantastic! I said "we'll see". Well, we saw. And it ain't. If anything, the clams were drier and chewier than ever. The fries deep fried freezer-burned chips. Well, yes, there were a lot of them. I threw most of mine away. An interesting scene unfolded while we waited for takeout: there is a sign on the window that states "Fresh Fish Available". I don't know what I'd take from that at the best of times. But, we could overhear a couple at a nearby table. The man asked if the fish was fresh, clearly stating that he didn't care for frozen. The server shook her head and said, no, the fish wasn't fresh. This makes the sign even more mysterious. The server did the right thing, because the customer, since he was so clear on the subject, probably could have discerned the difference, and, had she lied, he might have made a scene or put a bad review on Yelp!. There is room for good fish and chips in Kanata, I think. Fresh chipwagon style fries, fresh fish, as much as possible anyway. Packaged in a "Ye Olde Fish and Chipes" atmosphere. There was a place on Merivale Rd that tried this. Yes, it would be pricey, but as an occasional treat, worth it. Here we seem to default to coleslaw over mushy peas. There was a small caesar salad available which was slightly better than the coleslaw. The surroundings are unchanged with bold paintings of undersea scenes on the walls behind hard wooden booths or tables. I suspect, after this dramatic price increase, we will lose Digby's, and it's a shame. It was a good idea, but bad quality and high prices are the recipe for closure, not restaurant success. read more

I actually went alone after I felt hungry after an interview in the Kanata area. The food was average. I wasn't a huge fan of how greasy the fish was. I actually still feel a little nauseous and that was about 4 hours ago. I ordered a 2 piece Fish and Chip lunch special, that was actually served to me with 3 pieces (which was exciting) except it was so greasy, I couldn't actually eat it all. I did however want to bring it home to my boyfriend. So when the server came around next and asked if I was finished, I replied with "yes..but, I would like a take away container please". And before I got out the rest of my sentence he had put my dirty napkin and another one he had in his hand on top of the food. So I didn't get to take home my leftovers, and up until then the service was O-K. Nothing to write home about, but not bad either. If i'm in the area again, I probably would just go to one of the other establishments in the area. read more

My wife and I have been going to Joeys and now Digby's over the past ten years. It has progressively gotten worst every year. Smaller pieces of fish, cold French fries and now pink coleslaw and yellow tarter sauce. This is no longer and Fish and Chips restaurant, the place is old with a non functioning mens washroom, dirty floors, torn seats and flies landing on you or in your food. Not impressed, don't waste your money here!!! read more
