Thankfully this tiny but mighty market exists. Do I hope for a better selection of prepared foods and a few more farmers/ vegetable vendors? Of course I do! I also believe in my heart that they will come back if the customer base grows. This market is held from 3-5pm every Friday. It is currently three produce stands, one juice stand, and two people with ready made food. The space allows for quite a few more tables, and the customers that are there are all happy to have the chance to shop and possibly take home a quick meal. My guess is that they are all in the same mindset as me- loving the idea that I can have the freshest possible salad for dinner and a few things to snack on for the next few days. Prices are excellent, with all three of the vendors currently offering a deal of three small bags of vegetables for $5. I find that we spend $20- $30 every week and have enough to last us the weekend. Cash is preferred, though I believe that everyone currently take cards. Also remember your shopping bags or basket, because juggling tomatoes and long beans is not easy. There's plenty of parking in the lot or on the street, and the shopping center is obviously filled with stores that will help you fill out your Friday evening desires. The Friday Fresh Market is a fantastic asset to the neighborhood, and has the potential to be even better.

Right in the open space next to First Hawaiian Bank. Speaking of banks... always remember to carry cash for the vendors. Most times that's the only form of payment they'll accept. There's lots of parking in the shopping center and on the street. Although this one can be a flop sometimes because of the weather, for the most part I feel there's a good selection. If it's been raining lots then don't count on there being a big crowd.

They also have a few vendors with local crafts, jewelry, soaps etc. One of my favorites was the local peanut butter-- definitely recommend trying a sample from them! It is a dirt lot and can get a bit dusty. It also gets hotter later in the day- I def recommend trying to get in as early as possible for best selection and weather.

Half of the large parking lot at Kapolei Community Park is closed to allow the vendors to set up. They are all on the basketball court side of the park. Prices were really cheap and the vendors were really friendly. I definitely would go again. I am super happy with a bag of five tomatoes that I picked up for only $2! If you want Thai basil, it is only 50 cents a bunch, and pastries start at only 50 cents among lots of other items. Parking is street parking. There were lots of parking available. One thing though is that this farmer's market is a really early one ending at around 730 or 8 am. Cash only and open only on Sundays. Among the selections: sweet onions, broccoli, cucumbers, peppers, basil (already made pesto tonight!), oranges, apples, potatoes (all kinds, including purple sweet), beans, lemons, key limes, and apple bananas. I will DEFINITELY be back. One downside is that you have to arrive early (between 7 and 7:30 a.m.). After that, they're getting ready to tear it down, so you almost feel as if you're being rude while they're cleaning up. Be sure to bring smaller bills and even coins. There's a variety of food trucks, tents, crafts and gifts to shop through. Went over to the Minasa tent to try their ube churros, 3 for $12. Pretty pricey for 3 small churros that was definitely just a long regular churro cut into 3 pieces, but support local businesses anyway. The ube churros was sooooo goood and crunchy, would definitely order again. Made my way over to RissazKillaKonez, so many different soft serve flavors, I got a cappuchino, pretty good on a hot sunny day, ice cream was melting so fast though. Lastly, saw this crispy beef jerky tent. Beef jerky is my fave snack, I like all kinds, store bought or local made. For $14 I got a teriyaki crispy jerky after trying a bunch of samples and to be honest, it's not the best. It's bland, it isn't that "crispy", practically just hard jerky that breaks apart easily. Comparing this crispy beef jerky to the one in swap meet, swap meet is 1000 times way better and more flavorful, melts in your mouth type crispy jerky.

On our most recent visit we bought some random produce for super cheap (of course) and also stopped at the Soak 'n Smoke vendor who sells fresh fish blocks or cooks fish filets in front of you to make a plate lunch. The Ono sautéed in garlic butter was super yummy! He also sells smoked meats and dried aku which I wanna try next time. The Hawaiian Style Chili Co. is usually there as well, but they usually setup after 11a so we missed them last time. We did try their scampi, ahi steak, and roast pork once, which were pretty good. The Ocean dim sum guys are always setup early, but after a few tries, I'm not sure I'd go back for more. This is the same folks in Waipahu, at their brick and mortar next to Thelma's. It's not the best dim sum, but I guess it's okay if you're hungry! It was a little sketchy to see shrimp look fun rolls out in the open...I would pass on that. We'll be back again soon to get produce for the week, and hopefully try a different food item next time!
