RUN! The father is an arrogant prick. Yelled at me for asking questions, refused to answer anything I asked. Refused to complete a full panel because it "was an economic problem and I'm not going to spend money for one patient." Talked over me and interrupted me the entire time. It took everything in me not to tell him to treat me with respect. Worst of all, he used my BUTT as a clipboard. I can't imagine any doctor doing that to a male patient. It was absurd. Do not go here. This behavior would never fly on the mainland. He is only employed because he has a short waiting list (I wonder why?) and there are so few specialists on island. In terms of medical care, he forgot about me after giving the pin test, rendering the result invalid. Clearly he messed up, because I've gone to other allergists before and I am severely allergic to cats and dogs, but the result came out negative. The place is just a money mill, as evidenced by the dad running in and out of rooms. He refused to order a blood test for the full panel, too. The explanation is because he would not be willing to give me allergy shots for it (due to "economic reasons.") His obligation is to complete a full test regardless of whether it will result in financial benefit. It's my right to know what I'm allergic to, but he doesn't want me to take those test results to a different doctor who would be able to provide actual care based on the results of a full allergy panel. I was recommended to Dr. Kuo from a friend. I had my first appointment this past week for hives. My appointment with Dr. Kuo senior went great. He greeted me with a fist pump and was very professional. He performed the skin test on my back and it went great. He found out what I was allergic to and gave me free medicine to try before he prescribes me a prescription. I'm really grateful to Dr. Kuo for solving my hives issue. read more

This father-son duo is absolutely the worst. Junior actually missed 2 scheduled appointments with me for serious allergy symptoms with no valid excuses. When he did meet with me he administered a full allergy test that created even worse symptoms. His solution was to refer me to his Daddy who had no explanation for the fuck up. Total waste of my time and they made symptoms even worse! Their arrogance coupled with Junior's no shows exemplify these morons. read more

Terrible bedside manners from BOTH the father and son. This is dealing with our son who has been to many allergists in different states as well. The way both of them on separate occasions spoke to us and handled our son was horrific. Told our son that it didn't hurt as bad as he was making it out to be. *There is absolutely no need to draw blood on every skin prick/scratch. Speaking down to us, interrupting when we were answering a question...basically cutting us off and dismissing what we just responded with. The father even walked out when we were mid sentence. We thought seeing the son the next time would be different. Sadly the same manners. We suggested to our pediatrician that they remove them from the referral list. Another family in the waiting room agreed with us as well. They apparently left mid appointment. *we went over a year ago so this review is a little late. read more

Came in for an allergy test (the one where you get poked a bunch of times). The office staff was attentive and courteous. Dr. Kuo (senior) came in and went through my paperwork and asked follow up questions extremely quickly. Other reviews have mentioned that as a negative; I actually appreciated it because I value efficiency. The real winner was when he said not to move and he would be back in 15 minutes to read the test. After laying there face down for OVER AN HOUR I overheard one of the nurses realize I was still there and yell at him to read my test. He came in, didn't apologize, and finished my appointment. I was only the second appointment of the day so he couldn't have been backed up. After he left, I asked the nurse who came in after him "did he forget about me?" and she said yes, laughing nervously. She offered to cover my whole parking as an apology. I gladly accepted and ended up having to pay $5 anyway! I didn't care enough to fight it, at that point just getting out of there was a win. read more

I've been seeing Dr. Kuo Senior (his son is also in the practice - his daughter too) for 1 year so far for my severe allergies. I was referred to Dr. Kuo from my gastroenterologist. My previous allergist retired. Dr. Kuo has 3 convenient locations: Honolulu (Queens POB II), Aiea, and Kailua. I get that Dr. Kuo is not for everyone. I have to admit, I was intimidated during my initial allergy test. He talks fast, moves fast and gives shots fast - super fast (and virtually painless might I add!) but once you get a word in, he is sincere, knowledgeable and caring. He's been in the practice for years (probably longer than I've been alive) so I trust that he knows what he's doing. I've also had his son, Dr. Kuo Junior, on occasion and he's very pleasant! My allergies are terrible and I am extremely sensitive but Dr. Kuo is cautious and although I have a long way to go, I already feel a lot better! Will update my review once I am only on booster shots (every 6 months)...expect an update in a couple of years lol *parking is usually validated for 1/2 hour and $1 for every 1/2 thereafter. Yelp 100 Challenge #31/100 I've been coming to Dr. Kuo senior for about 3 years and saw his son before that. Since I have been getting my allergy shot here with him, he's very quick and to the point. Some folks may find that is not very friendly or he is rushing you out. For me, I got to know him and he's a nice guy, and that's his style. If I have a question or need him to look at something he will try to figure it out and then take care of it. The one thing I really like is when he gives me my shot (I dislike shots a bunch), it is always fast and painless. I know right! How can a shot be painless? I really feel it is all those years of practice and he's like got a black belt in giving shots. I had someone else give me a shot and it was sore when I got the shot, and then later my arm felt that someone took a sledgehammer to it. You know what I'm talking about if that has ever happened to you. The parking can be a pain at times, but that's not the practice's fault, but just an FYI. I usually come early for my appointments to avoid the rush of folks later in the morning or afternoon. Overall, if you want someone that is quick and no nonsense than Dr. Kuo is for you. Wasn't sure I liked this guy when I first stepped into his office. I tried so many over the counter allergy meds and gone to several allergists and finally I googled him to see what he was about. I saw some good reviews and thought this probably won't work but it can't hurt since nothing has worked before. He's pretty blunt no bs'er kinda old school Chinese man. He doesn't really answer your questions and he doesn't exactly listen when you tell him your symptoms he just gives you 40 pricks on your back to test what you're allergic to. Once we figured what I was allergic to he started injecting you with the stuff guess that's how it works right? Give your body low dosage of what it's allergic to so you can overcome it. First 2 months was every week. Then gradually every 2 weeks, then 3 weeks and then now 5 weeks at a time. At first I wanted to give up. I was still sneezing anywhere between 20-100 sneezes a day! I kid you not! There were days I was so exhausted just by sneezing. Then I couldn't breathe at night so nasal spray became my friend. I could've bought stock from Kleenex cause I was on their frequent buyer program! But atlas 5 months down the line one day I realized I wasn't sneezing like I was before, my eyes weren't always itchy and my nose didn't tickle and I could breathe again! I couldn't believe it! He said one year. I finally was seeing light. Now august 2014 is one year and I sneeze every now and then with dust but I'm a believer! We are doing an allergy for me today...another 40 pricks and I'm sitting in the waiting room excited and happy that I can now say I'm no longer a slave to allergens that once killed me...Palm tree pollen! Go figure and living in Hawaii...Palm trees are everywhere!! I highly suggest Dr. Kuo (older man) and his kids are also in the practice so I guarantee that if it can help me it will help you! Again he's rough around the edges, definitely not known for his people skills but he knows his stuff! If you like Seinfeld this Dr. reminds me of the Soup Nazi do with that I do adore this Dr. since I really liked the Soup Nazi! Great but don't ask questions! And the best part are that the shots are so quick n needles are so small you don't feel it at all!! I promise! read more

I saw Dr. Kuo for an allergy test. First of all, he doesn't practice proper sanitation as he left all the food for me to test with out in the open when there was a lid to cover it. He then attempted to feed me eggs with a knife, stainless steel knife, NOT a plastic knife.. During this visit, I was required to take my top off and I asked the female nurse to stay with me as I was uncomfortable with just the male doctor. but he told her "no need" so she left the room. He stated that I was a big girl so that wasn't needed. I was super uncomfortable. As a doctor, you should make the patient feel safe and comfortable but it was quite the opposite. In the end, I had to walk out without finishing my appointment because he was so rude. read more

GI problems. constant stomach aches. Terrible, terrible experiences with both Sr. and Jr. Kuo's. they failed to read complete list of medications I was on (new and old), and medical history. then handed off to Jr. Kuo, same deal. had to start all over again explaining my situation. Sr. stuck me with dozens of needles to determine common allergies. then Jr. (on a separate visit) put me on this MOST ridiculous food elimination diet to check for POSSIBLE food allergies. Nearly starved me to death and I was deprived of eating anything that was palatable to me. completely lost any interest in food. Lost weight, about 9 lbs. Quit this horrific diet, quit seeing these doctors. turned out source of problems was a newly taken medication added to what I was already taking. stopped new med, ALL problems went away. went back to feeling normal again, and resumed my normal diet w/o ANY problems. became a complete non-issue. If they both had reviewed my list of meds in detail and checked for any conflicts, and when I started taking new med, problem would of been really quite so obvious. I feel SO MUCH better now. I do NOT recommend either one of them at all. about over 2 months of torture. Neither of them called me up to see how I was doing throughout this whole ordeal! or for a F/U visit. I have been suffering with unkown allergy for 6weeks. Itchy all over my body and when I finally met Dr. Kuo, he saved me! I read about him online prior to my appt but he was just a typical old Asian Doctor. He was not unfriendly like others says. He just seems demanding but that's how he is and the most important thing is to cure and he does. I did have to get patch tests on my back to see what I was allergic to. 2min after he shot all kinds of allergen, I wanted to itch my back so badly but I had to wait for 15min...that was the hardest part for me. My advice for women, wear top and bottom that separates so you lie down the bed and you can show your back. you shouldn't wear a dress for the first visit. Turns out I am allergic to dusts! I am now treating my allergy by injecting dust allergen everyweek to develop antibody for it. So far so good. He has PA now and she's very nice. I get shots from her now. As of January 2020, I don't itch my body anymore. I still take shots every 4weeks. I sneeze or have itchy eyes once in a while but I'm so much better. I don't cough when I sleep anymore. My daughter also gets shots now. We see Dr. Kuo Sr. and Jr. They are both nice. read more

If I could give 0 stars I would. My daughter has been going to this office for a few years (& the only reason why we've been coming here for years is cause the location is convenient) and Dr. Kuo jr isn't so bad but somehow I got switched to the dad. When my daughter went in for annual testing Dr. kuo Sr came in the room and asked what we were doing there. (Obviously my daughter has allergies or we wouldn't be there) Anyways I told him my daughter needs to get tested and he said she's not allergic to anything before even doing any test. He starts the test on her and about 15-20 mins later comes back in the room to see my daughter is allergic to 30+ things. So after that first appointment with him I knew I didn't want her to see Sr anymore. But, somehow she kept having him for all her appointments. His staff clearly doesn't listen to patients when they request not to see a certain Dr. But the main reason why I'm writing this is because I needed papers to be filled out for the new upcoming school year. I went to drop off the papers to the aiea office to have it filled out. They call me a few days later asking if I can come in to help dr fill out the forms. I told them I'm busy that I work & I'm not coming in to fill out the forms unless my daughter needs to be tested again (I didn't see why I would need to come in if it's the same forms every year) & I keep telling the office staff that I don't want Dr. Kuo Sr. I dropped off the forms over 2 weeks ago & within that 2 weeks I called & spoke to many different staff asking when it would be done or how long it would take. Nobody could give me an answer. There were no notes in my daughter charts about any of the calls so every time I called each person I talked to had no idea what I was talking about. But the last girl I spoke to last week Thursday said she would give me a call on Monday which was yesterday to let me know an update on the forms. I didn't hear anything back so I called the office today and it took a while to finally get a hold of someone to help me. So of course by that time I was frustrated by explaining this for about the 5th time to Tiana telling her what was going on. She told me she doesn't appreciate me taking it out on her & I told her i didn't mean to take anything out on her Im just frustrated and wanted to know what is going on it shouldn't have taken this long or that many people that I had to talk to find out. She put me on hold to talk to Sr about the forms but the line ended up disconnecting. I called back and got ahold of the Kailua location and the girl I spoke to from that location called aiea and they said Dr. Kuo Sr would call me to talk to me. Dr. Kuo Sr ends up calling me 5 mins later saying it was miss communication on my part and I'm so rude to his staff & why didn't I just say it's the same forms like last time basically blaming me for everything cause his office don't have their stuff together. I found that so crazy that he called & turn everything around on me. I wouldn't have been frustrated if his staff did their job. Tiana was trying to blame that there is new girls and the others girls got fired instead of just trying to help. Dr. Kuo Sr didn't apologize or even listen to what I had to say. So from here on out I don't want nothing to do with that office & I'm taking my daughter elsewhere. & I'm trying to help future people who are thinking about coming here DONT!!!! DONT COME HERE!!! I've had several Doctors in my life, some good, and some not very good. I was completely baffled with Dr Philip Kuo Sr. First off, he wanted to give me a physical nearly every time I went in. The physical consisted of what every previous Doctor has done for every visit anyways. Blood pressure, heart rate, weight, looking in mouth, eyes, and ears. Any refills required an office visit. I was diagnosed with a disabling ailment from a specialist. When my disability insurance requested my medical records, he refused to send them. When I ask why, he said I needed to find another primary care physician. I found that bizarre, and was just glad it wasn't something terminal. I could look past his unfriendliness, because I wasn't there for that. I did however expect him to have some interest in helping me get better, or referring me to a specialist like a primary care physician normally does. read more

Saw his son, Philip I. Kuo Jr. first, and was impressed with his attention and kindness. But after my schedule changed I had to start seeing Sr. instead. He is very different from his son. Sr. is always heavily loaded with numerous patients (a lot of children), and he runs in and out of rooms and gives you the shotgun approach: come in, give you the shot, and get out unless you remind him you're there for more than just the shot. His approach is not communicative. He likes to rush in and be in control. He's a nice guy, but he isn't respectful to the patient and doesn't give his full attention. I tolerated it for a long time despite my sinus condition not improving after 15 months of shots, but my last visit was the straw that broke the camel's back, so I switched to a new doc. The incident that made me go ahead and finally switch was that he did a new prick test leaving me face down on the patient table (which I am way too big for and had to hang off of), and told me he'd be back in 10 minutes. I could hear him rushing in and out of rooms for the next half hour+. He finally came back about 40 minutes later and said "oh, it looks like your allergies are better!" He didn't even have enough guts to say, "I'm really sorry but I'll be honest with you -- I forgot about you because I was trying to take on too many patients and the test is invalid. We'll have to re-do it. I'm so sorry for the inconvenience." That test cost $75 even after my insurance coverage. read more
