We were so pleased with our son's birthday cake from Kupkates! He loves Jeeps so we asked for a Jeep themed cake. I shared a few ideas we had found on Pinterest for inspiration and this amazing cake was the result. The Jeep is a toy we added to the cake but everything else is edible! And delicious! We ordered a vanilla bean cake with chocolate frosting and filling! Everyone at his party raved about it! Our son's birthday is Christmas Eve so we were very happy that they were going to be open on that day so we could order something fun for his birthday. It can be hard to find places that are open on that day or willing to do non-holiday orders. We had to pick it up a few days early due to the snowstorm and have some leftover that we are still eating today. So this cake was made almost a week ago and is still delicious! We will definitely order again!

I ordered a 2 tier cake for my daughter's 40th birthday party from the Winfield location. I had never ordered or tasted their cakes, but I bought a cupcake that day and it was really good. Needless to say, the cake I ordered was exactly the way I hoped it would look and the taste was nothing less than AMAZING! Every guest at the party was scraping every crumb off their plate and my daughter said it was the best cake she's ever had--even better than her wedding cake! It was perfectly moist and delicious! In addition, the employees that I spoke to on the phone and in the store were friendly and helpful. My husband and I have ordered a minimum of two cakes per year from kupkates and also many other orders. My husband and first grader went to get some cookies today as a Friday treat. My daughter who is seven was almost in tears bc she had to pee so bad. The worker was rude and told my husband no bathroom for public use. I understand policy but letting a little girl use the bathroom once isn't that big of a deal. Especially not a big deal that you have to be rude. Sucks to lose a long time customer over a rude employee but we will never be back. read more

Local businesses run by local people?! In Valpo?! In a town that's quite dominated by chains and franchises, this is what Valpo needs! Katie hand-makes everything custom, and there is no shortage of her secret ingredient: love for what she does, and care for her customers! Kupkates saves the day! I had placed an order at another bakery for gluten free cupcakes for a co workers birthday and when I went to pick them up at 5:15 in the evening the girl behind the counter knew nothing of my order... I was panicked! I frantically went back to my car and did a search for gluten free bakeries in Valparaiso and Kupkates came top of the list. I called and the owner answered right away. She stated she had 6 GF cupcakes left and I told her I would be right there to pick them up. I saw on her sign when I pulled up that it was technically after the posted closing time and that she had graciously stayed open. She had the 6 cupcakes packaged and ready to go when I walked in. I purchased an additional 6 assorted cupcakes and left happy/relieved that I wouldn't have to walk in to work the next day empty handed. Everyone loved them and the chocolate GF cupcakes were met with rave reviews! I will be happy to continue to support Kupkates in the future! read more

The cheesecake at Bao's is creamy, yet a little pleasantly gelatinous from the strawberry topping. It was so rich that I couldn't eat it all in my car, so I took it to go to enjoy back at my hotel. Some of the other things I was considering getting at Bao's included the mini tarts, tiramisu cup, raspberry opera cake, turnovers, passionfruit cake and many others. They also have lots of macarons, but I'm not a macaron lady! Try as I might, I do not like macarons, but if you like macarons, then Bao's is the place to find macarons. Mostly, this is a to-go joint, but there are a couple of tables on the outdoor patio, and a table or two inside. When I visited, I only saw people pop in and get their goodies and pop back out.

The brioche bun disintegrated in my mouth after each bite. My experience with a bun like this is it was either frozen or it is stale. Not sure why the bun was bad since it was their special that day. I chose poorly with a burger. Every other time I went, I got the Yakisoba noodles with short rib ribs. The noodles with the short ribs are the best in town and probably the best in Northwest Indiana.

Blockhead definitely delivered on the food and the vibes. It was busy when we arrived, but we were still able to grab a table for two on the patio. The host didn't seem too friendly, but our waitress made up for that with quick service and solid recommendations. Although this is a brewery, the cocktail menu had so many fun options to choose from, so I opted for the mango sticky rice cocktail (I forget the exact name). It was delicious! My husband ordered the Two Suns of Tatooine, which wasn't his favorite initially, but had a better taste after sitting for a while. For dinner, we tried a bit of everything! The Yuzu Butter Wings had a unique, craveable flavor, although the wings themselves were a bit fatty. The Crab Rangoon Potstickers were stuffed with real crab and just the right amount of cream cheese. If you like a classic crab rangoon, I think you'll really enjoy Blockhead's twist on it. We also split a few sushi rolls, which hit the spot! The Spicy Crunchy Tuna was my favorite, and my husband loved the Krustee Crab. Finally, we shared a bowl of the Night King ramen noodles. These were full of spice, very saucy, and topped with tasty short rib and an egg. If you're in the area and looking for a fun fusion dinner, this is the spot!

Love that they have a great spot to sell out of a window to those visiting the park area for events (SMART). I was so impressed with the Sticky Finger that I still think about those flavors all together. It was a perfect fit for my palate and I loved it. The Joker was also great and the hubby loved it. We had a peach old fashioned to share (needed that before busting our butts on the ice rink, liquid courage) and the staff was excellent with keeping our waters filled and making sure we were well taken care of. The container was too small for the salad. It was difficult to add dressing without losing half the salad. I shook up the dressing, but the balsamic vinegar was stuck to the container. They gladly gave me another dressing. Pizza was great & so was the crispy crust. We got the roasted corn pizza. So delicious. Fresh cilantro & jalapeños. It tasted like the herbs & veggies were just picked. It's small, so sized for 1 unless you get more to eat. The key lime triffle was so good. Homemade whipped cream. Pound cake, & key lime filling was rich, but refreshing. Triple X root beer hit the spot too. We didn't have any cocktails, but the menu had many different kinds that sounded amazing.

Very cool coffee shop is a hidden gem. The barista greeted me as I walked in and showed me their…read moremenus. I got a small iced coconut latte, which is really good! The shop has a cool space. Lots of plants, has lots of places to sit and sip your coffee, there's a puzzle on a table that everyone can work on, cool mosaic above the door, and has some cool art pieces on the wall.
