First of all, what a hidden gem! From the moment we walked in, we had such a wonderful experience. We were greeted by JT, who was incredibly gracious and took the time to tell us a little about the restaurant. He even gave us some pho to taste, and it was INCREDIBLE! We had the fried rice, which was absolutely delicious. My partner was completely stuffed but HAD to finish it because it was just that good! I had the miso soup along with the Ichi and Shishi rolls, plus the Summer Hamachi, and WOW, WOW, WOW! Everything tasted unbelievably fresh. The Summer Hamachi especially was so fresh, delicate, and flavorful. You could truly taste the quality of the ingredients in every bite. My taste buds were going crazy! And just when we thought it couldn't get any better, we indulged in the most amazing ube dessert. The perfect ending to an incredible meal! This was our first time here as it is somewhat of a new restaurant. But based on the fact that the owners operate other successful restaurants in this area. I kind of knew that I would not be disappointed... I wasn't. We made reservations and were sat immediately upon arriving. The entire restaurant was clean and organized and very well maintained. We were greeted with a smile and welcomed in and brought to our table immediately. We chose to sit outside as the weather was perfect for outdoor dining. Serve server, Lissete immediately greeted us and helped us walk through the drink menu. We both chose the 'shogun' drink, which but their version not fat. The drink was absolutely delicious and flavorful and reflected its a menu description perfectly. I don't want to say that the menu was overwhelming, but every description of every item was appealing. I will not go into detailed descriptions of our menu items as their descriptions were very well defined on the menu. Everything we ordered was both picture perfect and absolutely delicious. We ordered the following items: Pork Belly Skewers Gali Rib Skewers Duo Tartar GO Roll Hachi Roll Every item was absolutely delicious but, would I order it again? Probably not as these items were so awesome that I would have to try new items every time I go back or another visit. I will again say that our server Lissete, it's probably one of the best servers I have ever had before. She was personal, professional, assisted us with the menu, get back with us after every plate and overall treated us as if we were honored guests in her home. We were underwhelmed by the quality of food and the professionalism of the service. The ambiance was also not up to par for us, especially given the advertising of a "tapas" style ordering system. My wife and I shared edamame, pork belly, and shishito peppers. She had the fried rice and I had the steak pho. All of it seemed to lack seasoning except for the pork belly. We had made a reservation and were seated outside (although many tables were available inside and other tables who mentioned that they were uncomfortable were moved from the patio to the inside dining). On average our server would come by every 15-20 Minutes which by that point our drinks definitely needed refills since it was 85+ out and we needed things for our meals (ie silverware and sharing plates) we will not return, unfortunately. Especially for a bill that was 130$ before tip, it is not worth it. I'd rather spend that at a more upscale locale. read more

Wow! This is the restaurant Lakewood Main Street needed! Yes there's high quality sushi, but oh there's so much more! The entire restaurant is brand new, after a long remodel. Owners Daniel Dokko and Anderyas Putranto (of Kore and JPan) kicked it up a few notches. High end cocktails prepared by a true mixologist, hot plates, cold plates, soups and noodles prepared with elite ingredients. Much more is yet to come including A5 Wagyu, Omskase and other traditional dishes. While it is brand new and a few kinks are to be expected, our experience was stellar! We shared winged chicken dumplings, then Koji Steamed Chicken served with a ginger, scallion and hot kombu oil. The chicken was incredibly tender and delicious! We added fried rice with marinated galbi (beef ribs marinated in Korean garlic soy) with a splash of gochujang hot sauce. A yellowtail roll with cream cheese, ginger and wasabi rounded out the meal. If you don't like flavor, you won't like this place. 10/10 MAKI ROLLS We ordered 2 rolls: Shichi - I am a fan of yellowtail and Kuro Sushi didn't let me down. The quality, the cuts of fish, and the pairing of flavors (miso, wasabi, more raw tuna on the inside, crispy greens) was SO GOOD. 10/10 Kyuu - husband chose this roll which contained Unagi (eel), cucumber, spicy tuna, and black tobiko. This was also very good! I still preferred the Shichi roll as I find Unagi a bit overwhelming but this restaurant did amazing with the pairing of flavors flavors. I think my husband and I finally have a go-to spot for date nights and we look forward to Kuro Sushi's official opening to try more of the menu. They don't serve your traditional rolls, but a modern fare. Kuro is located in the Main Street shopping center in Lakewood Ranch. The interior is modern and minimalist. They do have outdoor seating as well, if you choose on a beautiful day. The service was very attentive and will give their recommendations upon request. Since it was my first time, I had asked my server what she would recommend. She told me the pork belly skewers. The skewers come with two per plate. The pork belly was tender and coated with Gochujang. Be mindful that this does have a kick if you're sensitive to spices. I can't recall the name of the sushi roll that she recommended, but it's topped with thinly sliced wagyu beef that melts in your mouth. Kuro also offers an Omakase experience, as well as some of the menu items coming from the owner's mother's recipes. read more

Every dish felt so thoughtfully curated and every single item was absolutely delicious!
