I ordered the Tempura SWEET POTATO Bao Buns (without the eel sauce) as my appetizer and the Vegetable Udon bowl as my main meal. My friend ordered two sushi rolls and a sashimi. She said the fish was very fresh. When my Bao buns arrived with a sauce I had to question the server to see if this was a different sauce or the eel sauce and she said, oops, they must have missed the note so she took it back and a few minutes later brought out another one without the sauce. Side note- i had tried calling the restaurant earlier in the day to confirm they can accomodate vegetarian options and I never received a phone call back. read more

Attended a large women's event upstairs. We started out downstairs at the bar & the male bartender was great at accommodating a full bar of women with separate checks. The interior was very nice with lots of dark wood & brick. We then were seated upstairs & the A/C was not working - it was VERY hot. The 2 waitresses worked very hard to take care of us & ensured waters were poured & menus provided. Note - they do HH at the tables but don't advertise it. Make sure to ask for it as you will save $4 on a glass of wine! My $20 sushi was pathetic. Hardly any yellowtail in it & very small. They also charge a CC fee. Great service and great atmosphere. The upper level, where we were seated, featured a live pianist and a bar behind which the sushi chefs worked. Although the shumai dumplings were rather small, their flavor was delicious. The sushi rolls however was fresh and its portion sizes were right on par. Ordered: surprise mocktail, it was fruity and tasted good but was also $10. Chicken karaage, this was not crunchy at all and had zero seasoning. Didn't even taste like they put salt on it. Chicken was tender. My sushi roll, the hamachi yuzu...was mainly cucumber and a small roll. Honestly, insane for $19. My friend's roll the Pineapple Street looked so good and definitely was worth $19. Spent $50+ the whole night to eat soft chicken and rolls that needed to be dunked in yum yum sauce for flavor. First of all the food here is to die for!!!!! Everything was so fresh and so delicious! I had the shrimp and scallops entrée, and I couldn't believe how amazing it was. We had edamame for an appetizer with the cheesecake for dessert... we will definitely be coming back here... My daughter had the crispy tuna and she loved it so much. I decided to go back to Rose and Ivy after a previously poor experience. This visit was a full 180 from last time! Vibes were on point upstairs and everything on the menu we had was excellent. Happy to report that my past experience was a one off. I'll be putting Rose and Ivy back in the rotation for friend dinners and date nights. 5 STARS I cannot say enough good things about Rose & Ivy! We came in with a party of 16 the same day, and they somehow managed to accommodate us without missing a beat. The food was phenomenal--I ordered the crispy tuna and sushi, which was super fresh and delicious. My sister had the steak, which was hands down the most flavorful steak I've ever tried. What really made the experience special was the owner's hospitality. He kept checking in to make sure everything was perfect and was genuinely friendly. When he found out it was my twin sister's and my birthday, he personally walked us upstairs to the restored speakeasy (such a cool, historic touch!) and treated us all to a round of lemon drop shots. The atmosphere, the incredible food and drinks, and the above-and-beyond service made this a night to remember. Anytime we're back in the area, Rose & Ivy will be our first stop. I love the fact that they not only make mocktails, but they actually had a "mocktail of the week" which was very good; it was complex, and didn't taste like fruit punch. My spouse had the martini in the photo and said it was very good. We ordered the Salmon Carpaccio and the Crispy Tempura Shrimp sushi. The presentation was beautiful and everything tasted great. The atmosphere is the best part for me. It's in the Rosemary District, which is a young(ish) and hip place to be in Sarasota, so it's very cool. We loved the modern decor and atmosphere. We got a large order to go for my mom's birthday dinner. Everything was delicious and we had quite a spread. Picking up my order the staff was incredibly friendly and helped me with a few extras. The interior was extremely well designed and gives off a very robust vibe. All the sushi we had was incredible. We ordered the school of rock, the mango express, and the double tuna. Zero complaints and our whole family loved it. Dumplings were steamed and very good. Pork belly bao was on point and loved by all. Chicken Karaage basket with the spicy mayo sauce was one of my favorites! Juicy and tender chicken with one of my favorite spicy mayos I've had. 8oz Filet was well seasoned and cooked perfectly. The only things that disappointed were the burger and fried rice. The burger was nothing special and very average. But I don't knock them for it as it's not their wheel house. Seasoned fries that came with were very good. The fried rice was just too much, I think they tried to elevate it as a dish but just missed the mark. But that's just my opinion. Recommended. I should've known better than to try a restaurant that offers four or five different cuisines at once. This place has nothing to offer but knock-offs of traditional foods altered to seemingly please the naive diner. A server who decided to lecture me on proper searing of the wedge appetizer had no knowledge but lots to say as I sent back their soggy offering. (Service Review) I had made a reservation weeks ahead of our visit to Sarasota. Had visited Rose & Ivy alone while I was in town for business a month earlier. Had a decent experience due to it being the arts festival and things were a little chaotic. However this review is about my recent visit. Which was to celebrate my anniversary which I noted when making the reservation. We were seated by a kid with zero personality. Basically led us to the table and put menus down and left without saying another word. Then we sat for over 10 minutes without any acknowledgment or anyone to take a drink order. A server and his trainee noticed that nobody had been to our table and stopped to see if they could get us started on drinks. Said our server was confused about a new table layout. The guy server brought us our drinks and then decided to take our order too. Glad he did as our waitress didn't approach our table until our appetizer came out. Then, she never came back to check on us. I had to stop the other server to get a water refill and another beer. The owner was making his way from table to table checking on everyone's experience but did NOT come to our table. I believe he had been told by the other server that things were not going well so he avoided our table all together and simply wrote us off. If he had stopped, we would have discussed our experience, he could've told us any excuse and we would've gone on with life probably without ever writing a review. But since he didn't , here ya go for all to see. (Food Review). Ahi Tuna nachos were great. The rest (rolls) were average at best. Won't be back. (Server and trainee) I think his name was Frankie. He was great. He was situationaly aware and really thought about the customer experience. The table next to us also was supposed to have our same waitress but he saw that the same thing was happening to them so he took the table and just worked it. This past Saturday we walked into Rose & Ivy at 6:59 for our 7PM reservation. OpenTable had confirmed this.  A woman, who did not provide her name, started with how Open Table reservations don't have priority, and they had no table for us. I asked why they would not have taken themselves out of the Open Table system, if you don't honor it.  They said, that's not "How they do it." When pressed, She said they had 2 7PM reservations for the same table. (What?) People were seated at our table with menus, but the table next to them was open. We asked, "Why can't you seat us at that table." She said,  "No, we have regulars that called, and they have that table at 8pm" I said, "We used to be regulars, but I promise you I will never be back."  They complained a big part of the issue was it rained and they had a big party that they moved inside. (It's August in Sarasota, it rains daily.) Why would you not plan the party inside, and then take walk-ins if it was nice out. They had no answer.  We asked the woman to speak to the manager/owner (Who we have met before to compliment food or a server on prior visits.) Instead of him, a young male, short black/blond hair, stepped in like he was in charge, put his hands on his hips, and said in an extremely snarky voice, "Well what do you want me to do??!" I said, "I would like an explanation on how you take a reservation you have no intent on keeping, and then don't call the patron to say, I know you have a reservation, but we made an error and can't keep it." If they had called earlier in the day, or even an hour before it would show they have respect for the customers. We drove from LakeWood Ranch, and paid for parking to have this interaction. He said he could not help us, waved his arms, "And said have a  LOVELY night."   Rose & Ivy is an embarrassment to Open Table, a system that I have used for years, and works flawlessly. They admitted they never had any intent to contact us, as "That is not something they do."  No matter the quality of food, this interaction is not acceptable. Nothing about this interaction made me believe they won't continue to do this to customers, over and over.  The childish front of the house speaks volumes about the restaurant and care of the customer experience.   I wanted to share this experience to help save people from having a repeat experience. We have too many outstanding restaurants in LR, to ever go back to Rose & Ivy. read more

The Rose and Ivy is centrally located in Sarasota next door to the Sarasota Opera House. The restaurant has a modern feel to it, casual upscale dining. We were a group of 6, and arrived at around 5.30 and the place was still fairly quiet. A few in the group ordered sushi rolls and I ordered the grilled octopus entree. We were all impressed with the food, and the octopus was cool to perfection and nicely plated. The servers were polite and friendly. Prices were about what I'd expect for the location. read more

Delicious and unique cocktails, melt in your mouth shichimi (we had the hamachili and highly recommend), fun small plates, and great sushi rolls. Our waitress was knowledgable and enthusiastic about the menu and gave us great recommendations. Came across this gem after a ballet show at the Sarasota Opera House located next door. The decor is very modern with dim lighting. You can dine in for a date night, or with your family, or even a ladies/guys night out. They are also minutes away from all the bars downtown to bar hop. We had a later reservation time but were accepted early, which was great. Our waitress Kady (I believe) was absolutely wonderful. She gave us a run down of the menu, local favorites, and her top items as well. The food and cocktail were great. Their tuna poke nachos and crispy tuna were amazing. Highly recommend trying them. The Ginger Fluer cocktail was hands down the best cocktail I've had that incorporated ginger. If you're into Ginger, give it a try. You will not be disappointed. They have happy hour everyday and night happy hour an hour or two before they close, in case you were wondering. Great deals on their hot items if you wanted to try a few things. I truly don't know why this place has so many stars. It smells inside and has a very old interior. I understand that it is an old building and that it's part of the decor, but gosh remove the smell. It's awful and hard to eat when the place looks old, dirty, and is smelly. (We were in the upstairs section, so I don't know if it's different if you sit downstairs to be fair) I was really skeptical about the food. Like really skeptical. Typically you don't find places that specialize in steak, sushi, cocktails and then also serve burgers. I guess it was my fault for choosing such a spot. Burger was subpar, the fries had an incredibly weird smell to them. Like strange. The sushi was ok, but given the cleanliness and vibe to the place, I had my concerns on the quality of the fish. The only reason the food was somewhat eaten was because we were absolutely starving. Service was also kind of strange. absolutely the weirdest restaurant i've ever been to. me and my friends, who are all a group of college aged girls, had several people come up to us and say very weird things to us, including managers, chefs (literally talking to us about his sex life and asking us about ours), and waitresses. the service was terrible and we felt so uncomfortable, and had a different group of girls come up to us that had a same weird experience. also were multiple different staff who told my friends to go to the bathroom upstairs after they said no multiple times which was just super weird and didn't seem safe. don't recommend please be careful if you go here read more

I am beyond impressed by Rose & Ivy- The brand new face and concept in this gorgeous 1920's historic Sarasota building. When I caught word that the building was now owned by the same owner as another one of my favorite staple restaurants in downtown Sarasota, I had to go check it out..and when I say it was literally one of the best meals that I have had locally in a very long time- I mean it!! The amount of passion, knowledge and love that is put into their menu- from the sips to the bites is truly next level. The staff is welcoming and helpful and also provided excellent recommendations. As a chef myself and local DT Sarasota resident for over 10 years, I can say that Rose&Ivy is easily ranked at the very top of the list. I had the Miso Sea Bass and got to try the 16oz Ribeye on my first visit and I melted..I knew I would be coming back again and again. Well done!!! read more
