A day off = must go try Kusina! Their hours line up with my work day, but not today! John and I ran errands and headed over. I knew from other reviews that it is located in an office building. It isn't listed on the directory either- BUT you can smell food. So if you enter into the building, walk straight towards the pond you can see from the door and you'll see the sign pointing you to the right. Success. There are cases everywhere with baked goods, plus menu boards to choose you meals from. I overheard one of the owners saying the Tosilog was the most popular meal- a breakfast dish of fried rice, with sweet pork and a fried egg on top. I was here for the lumpia and pancit. I picked pancit with both noodles and it was delicious! The lumpia was the best I have had so far and John was joking about asking how many can we order at one time? Pre-order a tray of them! lol. Kusina was also featured in Edible Northeast Florida- in an article about Filipino Bakeries in Jacksonville. I also grabbed both the mango cake and the ube cake to try- the ube cake was dry, almost stale (sad face) but the mango cake was very moist! Finally had the chance to try this place now that they are at a new location with longer hours! It is a quaint Filipino cafe that recently opened. All menu items are cooked fresh so they let us know that it was going to take about 15 minutes to prepare. The tables were small so we were wondering how they would be able to fit all dishes at our table. Food was served in disposable take home containers, which was a convenient space saver and saved time from asking for take home boxes. Definitely a great place for breakfast or brunch. They had lots of tosilog dishes as well as other Filipino dishes such as diniguan, bikol express, kare kare and palabok! They had display cases of various cakes such as Ube, mango, and buco pandan. And if you love the Filipino chiffon celebration cakes they make those with 48hr notice. My Mom had the mango tiramisu and halo halo, my dad had the sisig, my daughter had the tocino tosilog, and I had the palabok. Full disclosure: I may be a bit biased because the owners are super nice, Filipinos and they serve Pinoy breakfast. We liked everything we ordered and the view was amazing from our table. I loved that I got a filling breakfast for only $6.99, great value! My favorites were the ensaymada & Tapsilog (marinated beef, garlic fried rice and fried egg). I also liked the freshly baked beef empanada, but it would have probably tasted better fried TBH because evertything tastes better fried All items are under $10, My husband and I each ordered a baked specialty, brunch item and dessert; our total was $25. See my photos and descriptions/tips Tip: if you order the sans rival dessert, it's traditionally frozen. That's ok if you like crispy wafers. But if you're like me and you like soft-chewy sans rival wafers, wait a few minutes for it to defrost. By the time you're done with breakfast/brunch it should be defrosted already. I also like removing some of the buttercream icing to save some calories and avoid gallbladder issue flare ups (TMI? Just trying to keep it real ;) If you order some ensaymada to go, nuke it for about 10-15 secs, enough to soften it so it melts the cheese and melts in your mouth I'll definitely be back, especially since Jollibee stopped serving breakfast (the only thing I love there). This place is a great find! My fiend's mom is Filipino and he was like a kid in a candy store when we visited. He's not one to get excited about a restaurant. I've visited several times and the food has been good every time. The portions for the pancit always leaves me with leftovers. The lumpia are good (I prefer thicker one's that my sister-in-law makes). I had the pork adobosilog. It was good. I prefer a bit more suace so next time I'm going to ask for extra sauce. My fiend had the Lonsilog diced pork. He said it reminded him of his mom's cooking as a kid. Kusina is a great little place hidden in the office park. It is well worth the visit. I'm a typical American, but I love to try new foods. My family member was having surgery at one of the many nearby surgery centers and I had a couple of hours to kill. I found this interesting restaurant online and decided to go for brunch. Kusina is inside a large building called "Enterprise Park". The inside of the building is un-manned and has an atrium with nice landscaping. Just walk in the front door and keep walking toward the lake. The restaurant is straight back on the right. There are restrooms before you reach the restaurant. There are 6-8 tables with a magnificent view of the lake and green space. You order at the counter and they will bring the food to you. Coffee is self-serve. I ordered brunch- Tosilog with coffee and also ordered desserts to take home- Ube Mamon and Ensaymada. The Tosilog is "sweet cured pork with garlic fried rice and egg". It is prepared as ordered and took about 15 minutes. The rice did not look fried, but was very hot. It had seasonings in it along with something pickled, maybe thin strips of pepper. The Pork Tocino was thin and coated with a burgundy colored, slightly sticky, sweet sauce. It was tender and paired well with the rice and egg. The egg was over medium with white well done and yellow slightly runny. The dish came in a bowl. It was very tasty and I would definitely order it again. The portion was too large for me, and I'm a healthy eater. I couldn't finish all of the rice and left approximately 3/4 cup. I couldn't wait, so I tasted the Mamon and Ensaymada in the car. The Ube Mamon is a small round one layered cake without icing. It tastes a lot like Angel Food cake. Mine was purple from the Ube, which is a purple yam. I liked it a lot because I'm not a fan of super sweet desserts or of icing. The Ensaymada is a dough pastry shaped like a large muffin topped with cheddar, Parmesan, and sugar. At home I like grilled cheese with sugar on top and Ensaymada reminded me of that. It is not as sweet at the Mamon and I should not have tried them at the same time. It is more of a savory roll with sugar topping. It will be good with tea later. The staff is friendly, the restaurant is clean. Everyone was wearing a mask, unless they were eating. The staff is bilingual. I definitely recommend this place and will return to try something different when I'm in the area again. read more

Stopped by because it was near my work place. I was excited to hear of filipino food nearby. It is tucked away inside one of the business suites but you'll see a sign to point you in the right direction when you enter the building. Once you enter, you'll see fresh desserts before the counter to where you order. The conveniently placed desserts helped me decide to pick up some ube cake. I ended up also ordering adobo dip sandwich (because it's different than the norm) and a chicken empanada. They also have baked goods too. Would love to try more and will be stopping by again. I'm happy when I smell the aroma of beef tapa and garlic rice (highly recommended tapsilog btw) or longsilog or tosilog and or pork adobosilog lol all pretty good! Takes me back to dad cooking his famous filipino meals!! All are made to order so may take a little longer to make but worth it! I recommend calling ahead if you are there for a lunch break. Once you enter the office building the wonderful aroma of baked goods leads you past the elevators towards the back facing the pond. I enter the restaurant which is clean and has well organized storage of many different desserts and ready to heat cooked food. I had the Pancit palabok and lumpia combo, as well as halo halo and decided to buy other desserts like ube tiramisu, ube mamon. I was searching for a place to eat breakfast before an appointment and this was the first restaurant that came up on Google in the area. I have had a few Filipino dishes before and wanted to see what they had. The reviews mentioned the empanadas and I also saw they had a bakery and breakfast sandwiches so I thought I'd give it a try. It is located in an office building on the first floor which I thought peculiar, but it overlooks a retention pond with a fountain so that's nice. First thing I noticed when I walked in was a lot of empty fridges and shelves... The owner was nice and greeted me, I told her it was my first time and she said take your time. I then asked about the empanadas and they were out, not surprised. Then I asked her about the Brunch dishes and the Kusina Kombos and got an basic explanation. I chose to stick with something simple and got the Kusina Kicker sandwich with bacon ( I figured a namesake would be good) and a side of hashbrowns. I took a seat at a one of the tables and waited. I didn't hear any cooking going on, just some doors opening and what sounded like a microwave. She brought me my food, it was not visually appealing and basic. I was hungry so I ate it anyway but these two things should be kicked off the menu or at least try to make them good by cooking and putting a Filipino twist besides the slightly spicy sauce. I found this little hidden gem through a search on Yelp while waiting in the doctor's office nearby. A bit confused as to the location, it's inside of an office building off of Belfort. I am sure that I could never work in the building, as I would always be downstairs eating. I ordered a chicken empanada and an ensaymada. The empanada looks like they're baked, as they have the texture and taste of a pot pie, without all the gravy. The chicken was super moist and tasty, and quite delicious. The ensaymada looks like a cheese muffin, but that's where the similarities end. It is light and fluffy, more like bread, manna from heaven would best describe it. Not super sweet and very delicious. I ate this while waiting on my order to take home for supper. I ordered three of the Kusina kombos (Canton Pansit, with lumpia, and one with shrimp fritters) would have been good with two as there was plenty of food. Was very delicious, and my family loved everything, including the shrimp fritters. If you are doing lunch and pressed for time, it's probably a good idea to call ahead to place pansit and brunch item orders. I will definitely be stopping by to try other menu items, a reward after doctor appointments maybe. read more
