It's my first time to dine here. I loved the menu. It seemed simple and manageable. It was quiet and peaceful. The service was very attentive. There was about a 20-minute wait at dinner time on the weekend. It was no problem as there's a Teso Life store a few stores down to waste time. The place is designed to seat 2 or 4 people at most seats so if your party has 5 or more, the wait may be longer. If I'm not wrong, they have like four 6-seaters. How's the food? The appetizers are alright. Main noodle? Stick to the special dry noodles - abura soba. The ramen here is meh. I wouldn't get it. I finally made it into Kajiken to dine in versus grabbing takeout. The restaurant is located in the newer shopping development beside Congressional Plaza. There is parking in the front as well as the back of the row of shops. I came here over the weekend in the early afternoon for an early lunch. It was a group of four adults and three kids. We were lucky to be seated right away without reservations. We were seated in the back and the staff were very accommodating to push two tables in the back together so that we could all fit comfortably. My family ordered our usual takeout options. - Tonkotsu Ramen - My toddler loves this ramen, it is flavorful with plenty of standard toppings: Egg, Menma, Nori and Scallion. I usually order an extra side of noodles and this is the perfect meal portion for us both. - Chashu Don - My younger son loves this! The Chashu is diced into small portions, easy to mix into the rice. Scallion and Nori is added as toppings, both mix well into the rice as well. The portion is perfect for a child. If an adult is ordering I would say this would be an appetizer or another entree would need to be ordered if you are hungry. The staff were attentive, friendly and polite. With three kids at the table we were asking for alot (extra bowls, extra utensils, extra napkins, water refills, extra straws, etc. etc.). Really nice place. The sukiyaki was the best dish. Awesome noodles and sauce at the bottom, the beef cooked to perfection! My spicy tonkatsu could have been spicier, but it was delicious, especially on a cold day. The service was excellent. Our waiter, Andy, did a great job explaining the menu and what they are good at. For dessert we had the sesame chocolate mousse and the tiramisu . They get their desserts from a place in Rockville town center. The sesame dessert was spot on for me. The ramen was cooked well so it has a chewy texture. The original dry ramen was our favorite, 2nd was niku miso and least was the roast beef as the sauce was sour. I've eaten here several times and I'm surprised I haven't written a review! We arrived an hour before closing. Parking is a little easier here at 830p. The interior is warm and inviting. The food came out fast. According to our server we finished eating our appetizer and bowls of soup in 25 min. He knew exactly because of when he put the order in. This did not come with a 'dipping' sauce, but the dish was good. I liked this more than my ramen. The layout reminds of places I've visited in Japan. I tried Kajiken when they first opened last year. It was great but fell off my radar with all the new restaurants opening in the area. I was in the mood for sukiyaki one night and DoorDash a bunch of stuff and it hit the spot. Since then my family and I have been two additional times this month and it just started getting cold. The restaurant is decorated beautifully and the service is impeccable. I have had the pleasure of trying 90% of the menu now. All of it is pretty solid depending upon taste. Tips- Hot barley tea is commentary if you ask. The condiments on the table can help enhance flavor. Not that the flavors aren't already great. It's like adding the siracha and hoisin to your Pho. Delicious. It has been a long time since I had a dish that felt so satisfying. We had two different aburasoba dishes: niku miso and hidden inferno. Both smelled and tasted so good! The textures and mouth feel of the noodles and sauce were better than I expected. There was no shortage of flavor in both dishes. The hidden inferno was very spicy and had a really nice pepper fragrance. I don't mean just heat, but the aroma. They have some garlic you can grind into the noodles as well at each table. I highly recommend that as it enhances the flavors a bit. Service was great too. The only downside was the service size of our appetizer, the sunomono (cucumbers, seaweed and octopus salad). Kajiken is one of several new Asian restaurants that have opened on Rockville Pike. Rockville has already had a great selection of Asian-food options, so I was surprised to see even more pop up! Kajiken specializes in their ramen and broth less-type ramen dishes. My friend and I tried their traditional ramen and soupless ramen. The traditional ramen bowl was soothing and comforting. I wish they included a little more broth because I like every bite to have a little soup until the end. All of the toppings and protein sides were also good. I've been here for lunch twice, and both times the aburasoba (soupless ramen) dish I ordered, Homura (without the fish powder), have been consistent, which I can appreciate. I also appreciate the noodles being cooked perfectly al dente on both visits - they really are on their A-game with their noodles! The Homura soupless ramen dish comes with spicy minced pork, a poached egg, menma (bamboo shoots), fish powder, scallion and chives; the dish is really tasty with its rich umami flavor and has a kick to it, so make sure you can handle some spice before you order this dish. I've tried the fish powder (on the side) the first time I came here and didn't think it tasted like anything, so I asked to omit it from the order on my second visit as it seems unnecessary to include something that doesn't enhance the dish in any way (less is more, right?). I also ordered cucumber and edamame as extra toppings (there's an upcharge for each extra topping) for my dry ramen; the extra toppings are served in tiny bowls and on the side, so you could share them with people at your table in case you didn't want the entire portion, although it's a small amount (see photos). Service here is nothing to write home about - both times I've visited, there has been no one at the hostess stand, and so I've had to wait a few minutes to be greeted, which is fine. Since their ramen dishes are made to order, they do take a little while to prepare (appetizers seem to come out pretty quickly in case you're starving), so make sure you're not in a huge hurry when you visit. The atmosphere of the restaurant is modern, bright and decorative; however, I didn't like how much space there is between the seat and the table at their booths. I'm on the slender side, and I'm sure a normal person wouldn't notice (or even mind) a little extra room, but I felt like I had to sit at the edge of my seat, which was not the most comfortable position, so that I wouldn't inadvertently get any of the sauce on my clothes. Nevertheless, I will be back again as I do really find that the flavor profile of the Homura is quite satisfying, their noodles consistently al dente, and the portion size perfectly filling for lunch (admittedly, I can eat a lot, but I get full after just one bowl of their dry ramen for lunch!) read more

I've been here twice, and the ambiance always reminds me of Japan. The lighting is especially good--it's easy on the eyes and perfect for taking photos. The service staff is fast and easy to communicate with. We were checked on a reasonable number of times, without it interrupting our meal. The food is great--definitely one of the best in the DMV area. I prefer the Spicy Tonkotsu over the original, which I found to be flavorless. On our second visit, we ordered the Original Tonkotsu, thought it might have been a me, but my partner also tasted the same where the original Tonkotsu lacked taste. Kajiken specializes in abura soba also known as " broth less ramen". I ordered the Niku Miso which is topped with chashu, minced miso pork, poached egg, chives scallions and seaweed. Once at your table you mix the broth with the noodles and the sauce at the bottom to add flavor to your noodles. The sauce is made with vinegar, oil and some other ingredients and coats the noodles nicely adding saltiness and umami. It definitely is a great thing to eat during 90 degree days. We came during a less busy time and were seated quickly and given the run down on the menu and the types of dishes. The sauce was made of edamame and tofu, and coated the noodles well. The vegetables and nori added good texture and crunch (as well as tanginess).
