First, what they did right. They did not take anything to which they were not entitled. They showed up when they said they would, and packed and removed the goods promptly and efficiently. These are notable virtues in the moving business. The problem came with the disposal and sale of the belongings. Throughout the planning process, and even during the packing, Amanda Kuzak kept emphasizing orally to me the diligence with which they would market and sell items. They would consult experts in particular fields, like books and clothing, and contract sales to them as deemed wise. They would prepare descriptions and sell items on eBay - it was for the time and effort involved in such activities, I presumed, that they charged a 35% commission on all sales, in addition to the time charge for packing and moving. The sale would, she told me, last for 30 days, after which unsold items would be donated. Most of the sales, though, she advised, would occur during the first ten days. She told me all this after she had reviewed the contents of the estate, and knew what there was to sell. She made, of course, no specific promises, but she certainly tried to convey a sense of expertise with the market. There was no indication whatever of what actually happened, which is that she sold the furniture and donated literally everything else to Goodwill and Hope Services. Not a bit of it was sold. Of course I realize that no reliable predictions could have been made, but this is far, far removed from anything I was led to expect. For art objects, she reported that there was no interest in them online, so the earlier claim that they would sell well was either a lie or an expression of gross incompetence at Kuzak's profession, which is working on a sense of what will sell and what will not. Not doing as well as expected is one thing, but not selling at all, after assuring me they would sell well, is not in the same ballpark. For books, she told me informally that they usually "work with" a used bookseller in Los Altos. That, I foolishly presumed, would mean that the professionals at there would look over the books, decide which would sell best, and probably make an offer for the entire stock. Instead, Amanda wrote me that this happened: "We took the books (2 boxes) that we thought would sell to a book store in Menlo Park but they didn't want to pay for them. Apparently the used book market is really flooded right now." Note that instead of working with the store's expertise, they guessed themselves which books would sell, took them in as walk-in customers with a couple boxes instead of as estate liquidators, and when the store didn't take anything that day - which is typical with my experience with casual walk-ins at collectors' stores - they gave up without trying anything else. They didn't contact any other booksellers; they didn't try listing anything online. They donated the lot. I was verbally promised care, detailed consideration, and expertise, and received none, and I have written assurance of the maximization of sales value, which was manifestly not adhered to. read more

We were moving from our home in Los Altos Hills and after a recommendation, selected Kuzak's Closet ri complete the process. The arrangement is that we remove everything we wish to move or keep from the property leaving the house in a shambles. Kuzak then comes in with a crew that auctions on our behalf credible items on their special auction site, donates non-auctionables, and disposes of the residual with a clean sweep of surfaces. Our experience was outstanding. Not only were we relieved of the frightful process of final disposal of unwanted items, but we covered the Kuzak's fee and received a sizable check from the auction proceeds. This feedback is mainly based on purchases I've tried to make thru Instagram. I used to love this hidden gem; it was great, reasonably prices, and easy to access. As many experienced during the pandemic, many businesses had to react to the virtual change. Kazaks closet, of course, decided to do it thru Instagram. Which is great. However, here is what I've experienced: - Lack of item description being advertised. - Delays on messaging, although it got better; I guess you also must make sure to re-confirm that you're purchasing an item. - Items being advertised are sold as soon as they hit the Instagram page. - You must go thru each item, even items sold many months ago (not a Kuzack problem, more like Instagram- I think?). Anyway, I hate to say goodbye, but it seems the cute little hidden gem has gotten big --kudos for that.However, I think there will be changes that will need to happen to sustain the growth and the way business is being performed. Living in the same 4000sq foot historic Craftsman Home for 21 years, where all the furniture was custom made it became a HUGE chore to sell of these items and deliver my home broom swept and clean. I don't envy the work, and could not be happier with services and outcome. Amanda and her team have one of the toughest jobs, convincing us that even though we spent bazillions on this furniture, it's not worth that. I attempted 4 times over two months and did not receive any reply until I called them out in an Instagram post. I attempted to go to one of their sales. No instructions about the sign up were posted so many people who were new like me didn't know we had to get on a wait list. When I didn't see anything I needed and left the man at the door was very rude about me leaving without buying anything. I will not be using them or attending any of their sales again. * added. I thought her style would match well with what was available in the estate. I was also interested in her business model. The wait list system is totally the wrong approach. You will have better luck at garage sales, flea markets, and even storage locker auctions. Don't waste you time on prior shopper "rejects" as a set few " privileged shoppers" get the good stuff. You will have better luck getting what you want ANY WHERE else but here... The owner's comments below basically prove what I have been saying unless you want to spend sleepless evenings in your car to sign up for "entrance" in to a house at 1 a.m. and wait 8 hours to get in (just like a black Friday event)... your time is better spent sleeping at home... arriving at a "normal" Garage sale RIGHT before it starts and having a CHANCE to get the same quality items as the "2 AMer's" at a Kuzak auction... read more

I'm a seasoned estate sale shopper, and I shop at Amanda's sales all the time. She is truly among the best of the cadre of estate sale providers in the SF bay area. She is one of the most professional, modeling a Superwoman work ethic, honesty, and first and foremost a concern to help her clients have a lucrative and painless experience. The care she has for the shoppers is palpable as well. She is generally very level headed and personable to all her shoppers, even when in the pressured sales environment, juggling answering to her clients and keeping a veritable army of happy, friendly, (albeit frenzied at times) shoppers *remaining* happy as well. Her helpful, experienced team helps keep everything running like a well oiled machine too. Her pricing is fair both for her dealer shoppers and for obtaining value in terms of expedient clean outs and accurate, market value appraisals on household items and collectibles for the clients. Amanda is a straight shooter, immensely popular with her ever increasing fanbase! Her promotional, internet and organizational skills are off the charts, and she uses Instagram to help get best values for her clients, and to do fun customer outreach, as with her blogs. If I only had half that energy and managerial / organizing skill! In response to shoppers who don't like waiting in line: The reality is that one has to do what it takes (ie wait in the area until the sale opens after signing the list, unless you need to hit up the local Starbucks or restroom). Estate sale shopping is very competitive in urban areas and some dealers suffer the hardship of very early arrivals for their business. Most of the customers, professionals or collectors, enjoy socializing and showing off their purchases, so its really pretty fun for most of the attendees. My review is as a shopper at Kuzak's Closet liquidations and estate sales. The shopping experience at Kuzak sales is second to none. If being one of the first shoppers into the home is important to you, you need to get there early (when it's dark) and stay in the area. I'm not a reseller or collector, so you won't see me sleeping in my car before a sale. The fun starts when people start to gather and the early birds emerge from their cars. Since there are so many 'regulars', we catch up, learn what others are looking for, and often shop for each other once we're in the house. I've met many new friends in the morning hours before a Kuzak liquidation or estate sale. As a shopper, you also are very aware of the care and compassion that Amanda and her team have for her clients - both the families and estate contents, and for the respect that Amanda has for her staff. They are a delightful team, super helpful to shoppers, and all clearly enjoy the work they do. I enjoy a morning spent shopping with Amanda and her awesome team! read more

I love Kuzak's Closet's estate sales! There are always good finds for cheap! As I mentioned before, I'm a bit of an estate sale junkie. Unlike a lot of the other estate sale companies in the South Bay, Kuzak's Closet only does them sporadically, which is a bummer for me. I'm guessing this is because the estate liquidation is secondary to the organizing business? Anyway, I always find good stuff at her estate sales -- hello, $4 set of super cute cocktail glasses! We were in a rush to get my parents' home on the market, and got a recommendation for Amanda. She came over the same day I contacted her, after replying right away, and was able to get the sale scheduled for a couple weeks out, which was great. She and her crew busted their butts getting everything organized and ready, and they also took care of the leftovers - recycled, trashed, or donated, depending on what it was - after the sale (and after letting us take one last look to see if there was anything we wanted to keep), PLUS left the house nice and clean. The charge for her company's services is very reasonable, and the turnout was huge, especially on Saturday. So, why only four stars? Well, they don't fire-sale stuff, they inferno-sale it. I knew we weren't going to get anywhere near top dollar from this type of sale, but was pretty stunned when I saw the final number... basically, take what you think your goods are worth (not what they cost new) and multiply by 10%. Relative to what the house was worth, this was rounding error, and with time of the essence, it was quick and pain-free. While sales aren't itemized, which was a disappointment, all other paperwork is very comprehensive. Lastly, Amanda and crew have great attitudes, and are easy to work with. I would use Kuzak's Closet again, and would recommend them to anyone who has a need for their services. read more

I have been laying low in the estate sale tules for a few days, waiting for a lucid response, but regrettably none is forthcoming---no promise to look into Kuzak line procedures, no admission of harassment by certain individuals who feel they are entitled to oust "violators" at will and most problematical, the obvious glossing over of "rigged sales" by a rehashment of rubberstamped generalities--"Nothing is sold beforehand", technically true, but if the merchandise is shoveled under your nose to where only you can get it, then for all intents and purposes it is already sold. Look at Tom M's review from 3/14/17---many of his talking points are the same as mine, so we can expect nothing but the status quo after this and all other critiques crumble into the trash heap of time.
