We interviewed these folks to hold our estate sale. They outlined their plan to sell the entire contents of the house. It was a very different method than what I am accustomed to. They require the homeowner to give them a $4,000 deposit and then they take over listing and selling items online. (Our property had already been cleaned, organized, and sorted.) They stated that they would then need to use the house to photograph and list items for about 5 weeks or longer. They stated that they keep track of the time it takes them to do the work in man hours and we may even owe them more than the deposit after the sale is finished if the $4,000 did not cover their expenses. We were expecting a traditional two day in person sale but this company no longer does that in order to maximize profits. This may be a strategy that works for some, but not for us. read more

Beware: this company falsely advertises. I drove an hour to San Jose today to visit an estate sale after seeing photos on estatesales.org. Based on the pictures, the house looked packed, and it was listed as a one-day sale. When I arrived just 10 minutes after opening, the house was completely empty. Every item shown in the photos was gone. After doing some digging, it appears they had already held an auction and were selling only the leftover items today. They seem to have intentionally chosen photos that would draw people in without stating that there had been a prior auction or that the pictured items would not be available. It felt deceptive and was frustrating after driving an hour. I would stay far away. read more

My review relates to my experience as a buyer at the CT online auctions. TL;DR - If you focus on your winds and see the big picture, you will get GREAT value for your $ and have a lot of fun. CT is as organized as I have ever seen any provider, and you can tell they work hard. Whenever I win a lot, my stuff is always gathered and ready to go when I arrive to pick it up. The people working are nearly always professional, pleasant, and patient. Some buyers really seem to sweat the very small stuff, but you have to remember that the CT team has to come into a home, work with the estate owner who may have strong feelings, create lots of items for sale, post them for auction, then support buyer pick-up. By its nature, this is organized chaos and there are going to be hiccups - usually due to buyer misbehavior, not CT mismanagement. However, I have found that for any minor instance something did not go perfectly, I've been pleasantly surprised many times over. I also appreciate how gracious they are when there is an error in my part, like forgetting to schedule pick-up or showing up at the wrong time. This company is very unorganized. Sharon is extremely unprofessional and rude. She believes her urgency is your urgency. I won a bid Thursday 10 pm, the platform the bidding was done on had paypal as an option to pay with. She called me at 7:40 am on Friday demanding I send another form of payment. I was not comfortable sending another form as I had read about her scamming other bidders. Her dilemma was the home she was having the estate sale for needed to be cleared out by noon the day after the bid ended. She then had me on a three way call with the CTbids billing department, spoke to me as if she was doing me a favor, and not business together. Told me she was going to block me and not refund my money. If she organized the estate sale and bid ending date/time, the family she was doing the sale for would have made more money as sharon had expressed 'multiple peoples payment did not go through in time'. I thought she was just having a bad day, but doing further investigation she wasn't. All other negative reviews express how unorganized and unprofessional she truly is. read more

Sharon Catalon stole over $300 from me in an auction. The items arrived damaged, and she could not be bothered to return any of my emails or calls. After numerous attempts, she sent me a text saying she was out of the country. When I said that was no excuse because I had been trying to contact her for weeks, she said she had a death in the family which i am pretty sure was lie. It has been about two months and neither she nor the shipper will take responsibility. When I reached out the the corporate office, they refused to do anything either. I spent $5000 in two months, but the will never again see another dime of my money. read more

I would give it 5 stars, but had a bad experience as a buyer. I have been purchasing for several months and always very pleasant experience with the staff. I now find out I've been banned from bidding and cannot get an answer from the owner as to why. I use other sites as well and never any problems. We contacted several organizations in the Bay Area to help us with the clearing out of our parents' home. When I contacted Caring Transitions I spoke with Sharon, the owner of the Sillicon Valley branch. I felt she was the only estate sale company leaning forward, able to meet me within short notice, and interested in the daunting task ahead of us. Caring Transitions is a nationwide network with their own online auction platform but they also use EBay and organize traditional estate sales. It depends on what needs to be sold. My parents had many beautiful things. After selecting what we wanted to keep there was still so much left that was too nice to just donate or throw away. After meeting with Sharon we knew we found a team that could help us sell the things we did not want to keep. The process was easy and simple. Sharon has an amazing team. Each person has special skills and responsibilities but they all help each other too. Sharon's Caring Transitions is a smooth running, efficient machine. All our parents' items were sold and picked up within a month but it would have gone faster if we had not been traveling for 2 weeks. Two days after the online sale closed all items were picked up and another 2 days later I received the sales report and a check. We made more money then we thought we would and Sharon's percentage is very reasonable for all the work they did. We hired Caring Transitions to help sell the items in our house, and we gave them four weeks to do this. Sharon told us this should be plenty of time, and that she even has specific groups that she would target to help sell specific items. After the online auction was over, none of this was reflected in the sales report, and the amount of money made was incredibly low. In fact, a large portion of the items went for $1-2, which is essentially giving it away. A lot of items were still at zero. We didn't have anything of extreme value, but it was still a large house with nice furniture and a lot of collectibles. We were surprised at how much we'd have to pay her, rather than get any money for an entire household worth of goods. After a close look at the final sales report, we noticed several discrepancies on pricing and items that were missing, that we had to call them on. They did clear the majority of stuff from the house, except for several large furniture pieces, which is what we really needed help with. And we were disappointed to find a mess in our backyard. Items that were supposed to be sold as "lots" had been picked over, leaving stuff behind. The contents of our shed had been scattered about and left in the rain. We had a railing that was BOLTED to the landscape pulled off for some reason, and was just left on the ground. We had to pay to have it repaired. The auction pick up was on a Saturday, and we were told Habitat for Humanity would come the same day after the auction to take donation items away. I was shocked when I went to the house on Sunday and found two men from Caring Transition hauling black bags full of stuff out of the house and putting it in their pick-up truck, to take to "donations." No one had mentioned any of this to us. And at the same time, there was a random family roaming around the back yard by themself, looking for their items. It was very disturbing and felt like a free-for-all. We had to ask several times for the donations receipts, and were eventually emailed two blank receipts for Habitat for Humanity and Savers. It's still unclear where all the items went. We decided to wrap up our time with Caring Transitions since it was dragging on, and we felt uncomfortable with how things were being handled. We ended up finishing everything else ourselves, which included having a hauler pick up the items left in the backyard, and getting rid of the remaining large pieces of furniture, which we were able to do quicker on our own. We hired Caring Transitions to help us make money, not to just "empty the house" at a large net loss to us. We still had to pay her half of the minimum that was due. Because of the lack of transparency, unsupervised people at the house and poor communication, we recommend finding another company to work with. read more

We hired Caring Transitions Silicon Valley to help sell the contents of our home of 56 years and the process, from start to finish, was excellent. Sharon, was extremely responsive, very knowledgeable and caring. She explained the process in detail and responded extremely fast to any questions we had. We gave her a relatively short timeframe of a month to inventory, sell and empty out the belongings in the house and they met every deadline. On 4/27/2023 of this year, I won several auctions from this business and my credit card was charged for the auctions I had won - nearly $100. I immediately, that same night, emailed Rebecca that I would need my items shipped. No response. I emailed again and was told it was going to their "shipping department" and they would reach out to me. The last time I heard from the shipping department was on Tuesday, May 16, 2023 and they have ignore my messages to them. When I finally had enough, I emailed Rebecca and told her to refund my money. That was weeks ago and I have not heard from them and they have not refunded my money. This is a poorly run SCAM organization. I would never recommend this company because of the owner. Basically, Sharon had not interest in selling any of merchandise and making any money beyond the basic fee. This was such a disappointment. I had to sell almost everything myself otherwise she would have had it all hauled away. I made thousands of dollars selling myself after she failed. She also sent someone over to see if he wanted to buy any of the items, and he was a con artist. He lied and was so disrespectful. This was unbelievable. She arranged an estate sale at our house and our neighbors told me that heard her yelling at her staff; prices were so high, it was embarrassing. Never use this business! read more

There were discrepancies all over the place, on prices, items missing and items' values. I don't recommend them because they don't take responsibility for their mistakes and only the customer loses. Every so often I drive past a garage sale and I stop and have a quick look, and more often than not most of the stuff for sale is crappy to me. On the other hand the estate sales of Caring Transitions has much more high end stuff. (Basically they are selling everything in the house, because they help oldsters move or downsize) I bought a 4 year old $400-when-new Yamaha AV receiver for $50 after 1 PM when everything becomes half-off. I also bought power tools, hand tools, an espresso machine, and a BP meter for almost nothing. I've seen big screen TVs go for $100, nice genuine art, sculptures and large leather sofas in great shape for ridiculous prices. They accept credit cards, and can put you on a mailing list so you know when and where their next sales are. The photos of stuff in upcoming sales are very helpful. read more

Sharon and her team took care of everything and made my parents feel special. in a short time they moved my parents into a independent living facility, handled the estate sale, moved us into a new home, took care of all the incidentals like donation items, left over items to discard, moving items into storage. I would recommend taking your business elsewhere. While navigating a move, I was in contact and agreed to meet with one of their agents, Sharon, for an appointment regarding moving/furniture. She did not show up, and did not respond to any of our messages until 30 minutes after the agreed time, at which point she forwarded the contact information of one of her colleagues instead (who was not expecting us at all, despite an appointment). All in all, communication is difficult with this organization, as it seems like they are stretched thin and disorganized. We left an hour after our scheduled time without meeting anyone. read more

Lately, most of my Saturday mornings are spent at the estate sales organized by the Caring Transitions of SV, and I always find hidden gems. The site crews are always professional and courteous, and they are very efficient with transactions so no waiting in lines. It's very well organized estate sales -- items are clearly sorted and prices are fair. Their online responses are pretty fast too, I emailed them with questions and they were able to respond within an hour. This isn't a big deal but I wish their signage to the sales are bigger and visible. Sometimes it's easy to miss their signs when driving a busy road. They usually announce the estate sale with an address a day before the event so I usually have it on my google map but it would still be nice to see their signs visible on the road. They have been a secret gem, that more people should explore... I heard about them first as a company that helps seniors down size, and it turns out, that they do so much more. The exciting thing for most people is that they have awesome sales since they are trying to liquidate everything in the house- including cars. I went to one of their estate sales and found some very cool Japanese soup bowls for give-away prices. There were a few workers and they were all really friendly. I love the concept of what they do also. It starts with helping people (usually seniors) down size and move into a smaller place, and as part of their service, they help de-clutter the house, sale the items that are not being moved and move the rest. They are doing a great job for the local community by providing great service, awesome prices and a lot of unique items for sale - and there is no memberships involved. :) I'm glad I found them ! read more

Please be warned: We hired Sharon and her team for abatement services to clean a home of a deceased family member. While she and her project manager initially provided decent customer service, they unfortunately didn't manage their crew well. A few of the crew members forced entry into the house late at night, stole items they had set aside earlier in the day, invited friends to join them, and I believe were looking for a place to hang out and do drugs. We caught them thankfully, filed a report with the Sheriff, and learned these people already had criminal records and were driving a stolen vehicle. Sharon was apologetic, helpful and cooperative with us and the Sheriff, and I believe she had no knowledge of the illegal activity of her crew. She returned 100% of our deposit and we moved on to another company. read more

My experience with Caring Transitions was a huge disappointment. The mission was to pack things that were headed to our home in Hawaii, then hold an estate sale, and then clear out the house so it could be listed for sale. The packing started out well. The estate sale was delayed several weeks, then held on two weekdays with fewer than a couple of dozen potential buyers (most of whom were my neighbors). To prep for the estate sale, they moved around furniture, leaving some outside, and placed sale items on every available flat space. Following the sale, they left. And never came back! They were supposed to come within the next day or two to clean up, but they left me in chaos. A week later, Sharon left a phone message requesting dimensions of furniture so she could sell it on line. Sometime after that, she offered to hire a mover to take items to storage (all at additional expense). She totally lost track of the end goal, which was to empty the house. The contract called for a liquidator to come following the estate sale. It never happened. It also called for CT to carry items to a donation center. Never happened (in fact Sharon asked me to donate some of CT's items which they had brought in for my sale!) The contract called for an accounting within seven days. I got it more than a month later, and it didn't include credit for a payment I'd made. Then she billed me for things that weren't in the contract! The worst part? No explanation and no apology for not following through. read more

These guys have always been fair to me. I mean every time I visit their estate sales. They even remember what I bought at their last sale. Huh? How do you do that? They seem like they have fun too, as they'e laughing all the time. And how do you do that?
