I would not recommend Adam Vander Heyden based on my experience with him as my DUI attorney…read more I was given two plea offers before my final court date: one for 6 months probation and 5 days in jail, and another for 10 days in jail with a DUI conviction. I made it very clear that I did not want to go to jail, or if jail was unavoidable, I wanted the absolute minimum amount of time possible. Adam advised me to reject both offers because he told me he believed he could get me a better result in court. I trusted his advice and followed his recommendation. Unfortunately, once we actually went into court, I felt like everything completely fell apart. The City Attorney presented a very negative picture of me, and I felt that my attorney's response and defense were extremely weak. The main argument I heard from my attorney was essentially that I work and therefore shouldn't go to jail. I did not feel like there was a strong effort to counter what the City Attorney was saying or advocate for me. The judge ultimately sentenced me to 80 DAYS IN JAIL -- significantly more than either of the plea offers I had been advised to reject. What bothers me most is that I genuinely felt like my attorney did not care about the outcome of my case. I trusted him when he told me we could do better by rejecting the offers, and I ended up paying a much heavier price because of that decision. I understand that no lawyer can guarantee a result, and I understand that the judge makes the final decision. My issue is with the advice I received, the expectations that were set, and how I felt I was represented when it actually mattered. I would not recommend this attorney to someone facing a DUI who is relying on their lawyer to seriously fight for them. My experience left me extremely disappointed and frustrated
