When I first inquired, Tim (the owner) reached out and scheduled a consultation/evaluation of my existing system for the following day. He arrived on time, was professional and very knowledgeable. He sent me over a couple different proposals that he believed would be best for me and my usage. I reached out to competing companies to test the market and one company found out that I was on a different NEM standard than we previously thought. This discovery made me second guess getting solar for the time being. I reached out to Tim and he said that he estimated I would still need to upgrade but that I could give it a few months to see how my energy bills were in the winter and early spring. To say he was right was an understatement! My bills went from $60 to over $300 some months. Now that I knew that adding to my system was worth it and had more information, I reached back out to Tim. He didn't miss a beat in suggesting a system that maximized my output and didn't break the bank. (Mind you, he spent hours going back and forth with me answering questions and concerns I had) Ultimately, I chose to go with Tim because of his expertise (he was an electrician prior to starting Golden State Solar), professionalism, customer service and honesty. The permit and installation process were painless and completed within a couple months (mostly waiting for the permit). We have had an Enphase solar installation for 10 years now, which has always worked beautifully…read more However, due to regular PG&E outages in our area (Fremont, CA), we decided to add a backup battery to the system. After careful research, we chose Highlight Solar (HS) to handle this installation. We chose the Franklin battery, and Highlight Solar came out to handle the installation in Nov 2025. Sadly, we had some serious issues with the functionality of our solar infrastructure, after the Franklin equipment was installed... the Enphase solar monitoring device (called Envoy) started having trouble communicating with the panels, and therefore would disable them. HS made a couple of different attempts to fix this issue (which was delayed when they went on vacation for a month), so I had to keep cycling the breaker for the panels every morning to get the system working for another day. Fortunately, they were persistent in pursuing the issue, and after returning from vacation in late January, Samir came out and spent a couple of hours on the phone with Enphase support, who suggested a possible solution for this issue. HS then had someone come out to implement Enphase's suggestion, and now my system is working solidly and reliably (Feb 2026). I'm glad HS didn't just give up on us; I'm sure they were just as frustrated as we were by this situation. We certainly didn't expect this to take three months to resolve, but it is working now.

I spoke with many contractors, and almost all of them sent salespeople who gave generic answers or tried to push cookie-cutter solutions that clearly didn't fit my setup. Carlos was completely different. From the moment he arrived, it was clear he wasn't a salesperson -- he's an engineer, and it shows. He took the time to deeply understand my system, reviewed actual spec sheets on the spot, and immediately identified issues that other contractors completely missed. Multiple companies told me Hyundai panels would work fine. Carlos checked the amperage limits, applied proper safety margin calculations, and clearly explained why those panels would not work with my EcoFlow system -- saving me from a costly mistake. Because of the good experience I had with having Clean Solar install panels at my house I reached out to them to see if they would service panels installed by another, and thankfully they accepted the job. After some back and forth with their customer support, they remotely assessed that the inverter failed and they would install a new one for a reasonable price. Clean Solar employee Jose arrived early for the install and he was very polite and relatable. He replaced the inverter and did not leave until he made sure that the system was back up and running and production was being reported in the app. I recommend Clean Solar to anyone needing their panels serviced or to install a new system. We also requested that this person not show up again but they kept sending him back. At the end of the project half of the Tesla walls were connected and working but the other half wasn't connecting. At one point our bedrooms electricity didn't work, it wasn't the breakers and Nick was awesome enough to take our after hours call and help us manually override those other 2 disconnected wall panels. The dream team (Nick, Kevin and Albert) resolved the connection and all is working now. Also, Nick stayed late to make sure our Tesla walls were configured and updated properly. Plus , a shout out to Jeremy for staying late as well to help fix a broken issue. Feedback: Organize a team that works well together to effectively complete the project.
