My friend was in town for the day and we decided to get our nails done at the last minute. We found Kyla Nails & Spa on Yelp as the closest, well-reviewed place to us. We made an appointment for an hour later, which isn't always easy on a Saturday afternoon (they take walk-ins too), and it turned out great. Thanks Yelp! They are easy to find and have a free, private parking lot; a luxury in Point Loma. The place is small, but the space is not crowded; its comfortable, clean and airy. They have a tv, but the volume wasn't on. There was no music, which made it easy to talk (its a small place and I can see how it might get loud if its full). Maybe the tv playing nature scenes with spa sounds might be a good compromise. There were lots of gel colour choices, but the regular polish colours could use a bit of an update. They gave us plenty of time to choose our polish, but then promptly started working. Our basic pedicure was only $21 with a 10% discount for posting a Yelp review! My friend also had a gel manicure. The chairs were comfortable and they used disposable basin liners. They did a good job on my pedicure, which included a mini-massage with lotion. My technician did not speak English and I had a little trouble communicating that she'd left my nails too long and not quite my preferred shape, but they came out ok in the end. I have a trouble spot on one of my nails and she didn't irritate it in any way (which some people do). My friends mani and pedi were both great! I will update with how long they last). They did the pedi first, then the mani, so we had plenty of time to relax, chat and be pampered. Everyone was polite. They were quick, but we definitely did not feel rushed. They're not open until 7pm most days, which is not bad; I have a feeling they'd stay a bit longer if needed. Overall, for the service and the price, this place is worth a visit if you're in the area. (A loyalty card would be a good idea and would definitely bring me back)! read more

Went in on Mother's Day (2 days ago) for a pedi, my first time in. I upgraded the pedi and added a mani while I was there, since it was Mother's Day and a treat from my kids. The woman didn't trim or file my toe nails (you can see from the photo they are uneven) and didn't clean the paint off my skin at the end. It's only been 2 days and the paint is peeling off my toe nails - pedis from my regular place last at least 3 weeks (we just moved to this neighborhood). I added a mani because they weren't busy, but then 3 people came in who all had appointments, so she rushed the mani (it was under 10 minutes) and super rough on my cuticles. I wish she would've just said she couldn't do the mani because there wasn't time. I tipped 20% because she had me pay before she did the mani, but the quality of work did not warrant the tip she got (I would've thought I'd have gotten more effort). The owner reached out right away and offered to correct my bad experience- I appreciate that she cares and has offered to make it right, so I've added 2 stars and will update my review again after I have my nails fixed. read more

Sadly after having bad experiences the last couple times I will no longer be going to this salon. I came in with a specific ombré color that I wanted and the nail tech said of course she proceeded to do an ombré using gel polish she then proceeded to use glitter to cover up the mistakes that she had made on the polish I know that she tried to do an ombré but I feel like she should've been honest with me and tell me that she couldn't do ombré or that she didn't have the materials she needed I had to go to another salon and have my nails redone. Highly recommend!! Highlights were a great massage, clean and lovey salon and very professional and friendly. My girlfriend flew in for my 53rd birthday and we had just had a 90 minute full body massage at Saigon Massage which I highly recommend but we wanted a pedicure because we were feeling so relaxed. We called a couple of places but ended up choosing Kyla's nail salon. I'm so glad we did because it was the best pedicure I think I've ever had. The salon is very clean and bright and the gals that work there were very friendly and professional and the prices were comparable to other salons I'd visited in North County where I live. Let me start by saying, my pedicure looked great after I left -- but it took two ladies to do my gel pedicure. And I understand sometimes most techs don't qualify to do gel, which is fine. BUT the first tech, white nail tech, she did the service kind of out of order. She painfully filed off my old gel, didn't file the shape for my nails, didn't clean my cuticles, and she either over scrubbed my foot and there's a small cut or she just completely skipped one side of my foot. After she was "done" with the pedicure cleansing part, another tech, I believe her name was Dana, she was not impressed by the first tech's work. She had to clean up my cuticles, file my nails, and she did a great job! And my gel polish came out flawlessly! I'm not completely upset about it! I would still recommend Kyla's, maybe wait for another tech though. read more

Although a loyal customer for over 2 years since I moved to this area, Kyla nails failed to honor my appointment today. As I am about to undertake a trip of a lifetime, I wanted my nails to look good. I don't normally make a reservation, however, knowing today could be busy, I called yesterday to both find the best time for them and schedule an appointment for getting a manicure and pedicure. They told me they could not do it and would I come back later. Unfortunately, I am flying so that was not possible. I asked again if they would honor my appointment and was met with stony silence. Another lady was also very disappointed as she too had an appointment which looked in jeopardy. I used to overlook the dirty spots, the staff that talked over you and the inconsistent quality, but now it is forefront in my mind and not satisfactory. They even botched their remodel recently, with poor quality flooring and remaining closed long after they were due to reopen. I would not recommend Kyla Nails! read more

This was my second trip to Kayla salon. My first time here everything was pretty great and long lasting. A few little imperfections on 1 or 2 nails but I didn't mind. My more recent trip was less than great. The staff was not welcoming or very vocal. I did it feel they listen to my questions or provided very clear answers. All I wanted was a simple gel manicure and regular pedicure. I walked out with plan nails and toes since they could not match colors. The nail techs were rough, and basically ignored me for the most part. I ended up with an Uneven and sloppy manicure with bubbles in the nail polish and nail polish on the skin all around the nail. The tools used were not sanitized and the nail files were used on everyone & looked old. All the nail polish options were really old (separating in the bottle, cracking) and/or nearly empty. So Tina is a bit of a rock star nail tech! Not only is she super fast, and really amazing at doing nails, she has regular clients that drive in from out of State to come in and see her! I kid you not, when I went in there was a lady from AZ that drives in ever month to see her. Wow. So I highly recommend going in to see her. I was on vacation and so glad that I went in. I asked for almond shaped, nude nails with (and I know this is weird) one of my fave Metallica songs "Seek And Destroy" written across my 3 middle nails on my left hand. Went for a pedicure... $20... Added the heel scrub... $7 First she did a lousy job on the scrub, slipped multiple times and scratched the crap out of one ankle with her file. She was also very rough with the clippers. She polished my nails with a light pink, but must have made a mistake. She dabbed acetone on one nail repeatedly then added a clear coat. I paid and left. The one she dabbed doesn't even have complete polish coverage. There are also little fuzzies in my polish and a few look scuffed. How lazy could she be? Not worth the time or money. Due to its close proximity to my office, Kyla Nails has become my go-to manicure/pedicure spot. The place is spacious, clean, rarely overcrowded, has a good selection of polishes and magazines, and the massage chairs are some of the more comfortable that I've experienced in comparable nail salons. True, they attempt to upsell you to an extent, but I've never been made to feel obligated to purchase add-ons, and I've never felt that the quality of my original service has suffered in lieu of my opting out of an upgrade. In fact, I've had to urge my manicurist to be slightly LESS thorough with her filing in order to get back to work in time! On the couple of occasions that I clumsily dinged my freshly-polished toes getting into the car, they graciously fixed them up for me. Honestly, there's nothing SUPER standout about this place, but I'll certainly continue to patronize it due to its convenient location and friendly service. Word. read more

I came in from out of town and am staying at Humphrey's. I decided to take a look for the closest nail place, and this was nice and close-- maybe a 5 minute walk. I even stopped at Marvelous Muffins on the way and had plenty of time. Anyway-- the staff was incredibly friendly, even asked and called me by name, which I really appreciated. I worked with Lisa and Tina, Lisa for pedi and Tina for mani and my nails look peachy. I usually do my own nails and am very particular, but since I'm on vacation, I didn't bring my own supplies. I'm pretty content with how they turned out. They also worked on my nails and toes at the same time, which worked well for me! I did shellac on my nails and toes, and got some extra fixings with the pedicure. All that being said, my total came to $95, before tip! Admittedly, I haven't been to a nail salon in a couple of years-- so prices may have gone up without my realizing, but ouch! I didn't feel any sort of up-selling pressure, though Lisa did show me a menu-style list of add-ons for the pedicure (hence the extra fixin's, how can you say no to sea salt?) Anyway, this was a pleasant experience. The location was ideal, the staff was very nice, and the facility was very clean, but prices were a little steep for my taste. **Update: 8/30: I hate to be picky, but I feel compelled to share. It's been a week, maybe a day or two more, and the nails that I paid $95 + tip for have already come off. I had to take them off last night because I couldn't take it anymore.
