I have gone through the nail styles of the day with Lee. Acrylic, Pink and Whites to just natural nails. She is constantly keeping up with new products. But not trendy products. I was very hopeful in trying out a new salon, and supporting local business. The shop is really cute and the owner was very friendly. I'm used to having gel nails, and was open to trying something new here. Renee was my nail technician, and she suggested that we try powder that you dip your nail into. She had to file down my nails, which I'm used to but she did it so much that one of my fingers is bleeding, and the other two are extremely sore. In the middle of the appointment, she said that I didn't like her since I had walked in, and that I was judging her. I was completely taken aback and not sure how to respond and asked her to please finish. She didn't like the way it was turning out, so I had to soak my nails and she filed off all that she had done. As we restarted with more dipping powder, she had to continually read the instructions. I wish I had known that she was incompetent and I would never have come here. My nails are uneven, bumpy, shaggy, too short and painful now. I will never come back here and I'm really disappointed in this entire experience. Omg! I think I finally found a nail salon to use without having to go to far from my house, which I have had to do by driving all the way to la Jolla just for a mani pedi. Now with this place I only have a ten minute drive from inland and I couldn't be happier. With location be amazing and also the prices and services I can't help but give these ladies a 5 start review. As soon I walked it I was greeted and assigned the typical what brings you in and please sign, but as soon as I as called to sit in the chairs it was just a continually enjoyable experience. They didn't file my nails down to nothing and all the tools they used where update and pre packaged which is always a comforting sign. They had me in and out but in a timely manner. I couldn't be happier with their work! I will be back for my next appointment, thank you. read more

I enjoyed my experience. It is a small quaint place and definitely focuses on the customer over fancy equipment. My technician was Margaret and she has 13 years of experience. I was a bit doubtful, only two stations and the pedicure station was the same as finger nail station. But it was great. Margaret was very thorough and meticulous during my manicure and pedicure. The massage and salt scrub was perfect. I was surprised but interested when she took oil and rubbed that on my feet before the scrub. But my feet are very soft and I feel completely pampered. read more

I've been going to Lee Ann for 7 years now. She is the best manicurist on the planet. When Hand and Heart studio opened up, I was so excited! It is gorgeous, comfortable, and I feel right at home here. I've had everything from acryllic, prescription nails, shellac and manicures, and I've never been disappointed. Margaret is terrific, too! Margaret and LeeAnne are fabulous! Margaret has the magic touch on your feet. She does the best pedicure!!! The first time I got there Margaret recommended getting a shellac manicure and I've been doing them ever since. She's truly amazing! I love how welcoming and caring they are with all their clients. I've had the best laughs with them and it feels comfortable and cozy! I really appreciate their flexibility on scheduling appointments when needed. They enjoy each other and what they do! I just got back from a manicure here. It was my first time. I was looking for a good spa-level manicure, particularly one that included a salt scrub, for my destroyed cuticles and hands after a few weeks of rock-climbing. I wanted the appointment asap, so I called around. Even though Margaret's schedule was already mostly booked, she managed to squeeze me in for a half-hour. What I got was your basic manicure, with a short, light massage. She was reasonbly meticulous with the cuticle trimming. But, still nothing extraordinary. I did not receive the salt scrub I had read about on Yelp. Perhaps that is reserved only for pedicures. Their website does not break down each what is included in each type of service. Either way, I had found other salon/spas that do specifically list and offer other pampering features, including salt scrubs, in their manicures, but for only $20. Next time I will go there. Needless to say, I'm a bit disappointed, because for the price, I had higher expectations. Some positive/redeeming features about the experience was the atmosphere. Margaret was very friendly. They draw a group of well-to-do, local, older, social women. They all seem to know each other, so there's always good conversation that makes you feel relaxed. read more

It was a nice, cute little place and the ladies were nice. I called pretty last minute and she was able to fit me in. I asked for a pedicure and said, "whatever you do, don't make my nails square." Well, I realized when I got home, my nails were squared off. As I got a closer look, the white lines (french style) weren't very sharp either. I realize they are on my toes and no one would say anything but, I noticed and wasn't too impressed, especially for $45 (non-shellac). read more

I recently moved to Pt. Loma. One of the hardest thing about moving is finding the services with people you trust and value. I came from Washington State and had a fabulous place I went for my nails.After trying several other salons, I found Hand and Heart. I love it. I wish I could give 100 stars. I love this place and I love Margaret. I have a busy work schedule and needed my nails done for an event. They were in desperate need of some attention. Margaret worked with my schedule and worked on her off time which was so appreciated. I had the best experience. It was quiet and relaxing. No one yelling or phones ringing. Just peaceful. Best manicure ever. My shellac lasted around 3 weeks which is incredible considering I am a hairstylist. My hands are always in shampoo bowls and covered in hair color. It was a great experience. I finally had to stop using this salon as LeeAnn had too many problems keeping my appointments. I scheduled my appointments nearly one month in advance but for the last eight or nine months she changed or tried to change each one at the last minute. The last straw was receiving a call at 10:30 pm the night before a scheduled appointment for 9:00 am. I did not answer my phone as I was asleep so she called before 7:00 am the day of the appointment. She wanted me to move my appointment to 10:00 am because she would have had an open hour after my 9:00 am appointment. She represented it as "parking would be easier" for me, but since I always arrived approximately 45 minutes before any scheduled appointment, parking has never been an issue. I got tired of the disrespect she showed a long-term customer. She does good work, but she really needs to realize that she is in a customer service business and the customer's schedule should take priority over her personal needs. read more
