Also, when I had the injection in my lower back, the procedure was done in the doctor's office, so I didn't have to go to another hospital, which was very convenient. Also, two nurses were by my side all the time, holding my hand. The doctor also talked to me about various things, which helped me relax as I was scared of the injection, which was very reassuring. I live in OC, so it's a little far, but Dr. Arita carefully considers the treatment options, so I think he's a trustworthy doctor. He doesn't make me go back in for many times. First, he listens to me, identifies the area that hurts, prescribes the appropriate medicine, and if that doesn't work, he tells me the next treatment. Then, after I get better, he introduces me to physical therapy and releases me from my own consultation, so I don't have to go there unnecessarily. They were referrals for treatments that they do not do in that office and are pretty extreme. He said he wanted me to exhaust all other options before giving me referrals to those two treatments. I did exhaust all other options, so he did finally give me those two referrals. Again, I'm very grateful to him for doing that because I don't think I would've been able to pursue those treatments without his referral or a referral by another psychiatrist. One thing that bothers me a lot, though, is that, instead of being offered Spravato, which is covered by my insurance, I could only do IV ketamine there. I don't know why they didn't offer Sp I experienced zero effect until my sixth treatment. Cash pay at that time for me was extremely expensive (about $600 per session). So, the first $3000 worth of IV Ketamine treatment was completely ineffective for me.

I have undergone a total left knee replacement and five additional surgeries, which have limited my range of motion to 74 degrees. I am currently attending physical therapy twice a week to improve my mobility. I am experiencing pain, swelling, and fluid in my knee. Despite this, your primary concern appeared to be regarding the medication I am prescribed, which is indeed for pain. Had you thoroughly reviewed my medical records, you would have understood my complete history, which would have explained my inability to take the medication you suggested. Your recommendation to take Tylenol felt dismissive and unhelpful. I felt that I was not truly heard, nor did I perceive a genuine concern for my well-being as a patient. I left your office questioning the purpose of my visit, and I believe no patient should ever feel this way. I am not merely a statistic or someone seeking drugs; I am a patient experiencing chronic pain due to unforeseen complications from my surgeries. It took months of back and forth. I would think they would be more attentive as people that go there are very often experiencing immense pain. Dr. Katrina Von Kriegenbergh is very attentive during the office visit. However, when the first shot didn't alleviate the pain she devised a plan b which included another set of shots and a proposed plan C if necessary. During the procedure nothing was explained, I was told to pick up my shirt and lay face down. No guidance as to what to expect from the procedure while the doctor and her assistant spoke to each other about irrelevant things. Perhaps it's due to them doing this repetitively however, it'd be less nerve racking if the procedure was briefly explained to the patient. After the shots I was told I'd get a follow up call within 2 days to see if they had worked, it's been over 6 months and I never received that call. I did however get a bill for over $200, for the shots they advised me wouldn't cost me anything out of pocket. Needless to say there will be no further follow up from me. I'll unfortunately have to look elsewhere.

During that entire hour and a half, I was first told he was at lunch, then later told he was 'on a call,' which conveniently kept me waiting under the assumption he'd be in any minute. No one was honest about how long the delay would be, and no one offered me the courtesy of rescheduling. Apparently my time and pain were not important enough to warrant basic communication. At 3:43 PM, nearly three hours after my scheduled appointment, I received a voicemail from Dr. Tondravi apologizing (after I filed a complaint with UCLA) and explaining he had been on an insurance call for another patient. While advocating for a patient is certainly part of the job, it's ironic to champion patient care while simultaneously showing complete disregard for another patient sitting in pain in your waiting room. To make matters worse, as I was leaving after waiting 90 minutes without being seen, his staff still stopped me to ask about my copay, which felt like a fitting end to an already unacceptable experience. The issue wasn't that he was delayed. The issue was the arrogance of assuming a patient should sit indefinitely with no transparency while his office offered excuse after excuse.
