Agemono Sampler
Lauren M.

We loved our experience at Kyoko! Our waitress (I believe her name was Olivia!) was super sweet and attentive. We ordered the Agemono Sampler to start. It was a lot of fried food but it was fun to sample some items including the soft shell crab! For rolls we ordered Firecracker, tuna avocado, zesty avocado, and Kamikaze (our favorite!). Would definitely come back. One of our new favorite sushi places!

If I were to rate Kyoko's sushi based on all the sushi I've ever eaten, I'd give it a 3 out of 5 stars. For what I've tried in the area so far, I give it 4 out of 5 stars. Definitely the only place where I've actually enjoyed the sushi. My 5 stars overall is for our server (a petite woman with curly hair). My daughter has a lot of food allergies so eating out with her is tricky. We found a noodle mixed in her edamame (she has a known anaphylaxis to wheat) and informed our server. At this point, we'd already paid the bill and didn't think anything would change. We simply wanted to inform her what happened. She immediately replaced our daughter's order of plain white rice and edamame, packed it to go, and apologized profusely for it. I was so impressed - I wished all servers handled my daughter's food allergies seriously and graciously like that without making her feel self-conscious. I'd return again for such service alone. On to our food.. I really enjoyed my soft shell crab. It was extra crisp and the crab itself super flavorful. Dismayed that they didn't have takoyaki the day we came. I bet they make it great as well. Husband enjoyed the pork buns. As aforementioned, sushi is the best quality we've had in the area so far. I will say reviews that note the high amount of rice in the nigiri and maki have some merit. Nigiri was two bites per piece for me and I struggled even holding a piece of maki. Size isn't necessarily a complaint. Just thought it was noteworthy. I liked how the tempura in the bamboo roll was actually crispy. Price point seems fair for the area. Only actual complaint is there was an uncomfortable delay between receiving our appetizers and the rest of our food. But nothing major that would keep us from returning. There's now a 4% additional charge to use a credit or debit card.

We are never disappointed at Kyoko's in Fayetteville! Yesterday 1/26/24, we ordered Dragon Roll, Volcano Roll (see picture) and Beef Teriyaki with Tempura Veggies. Sauces are savory and flavors compliment each other perfectly. When we leave we can't wait to come back.

We came here for my birthday and oh my goodness this is truly the best Japanese cuisine / sushi place in Syracuse. After living in Southern California for 5 years it's been hard to find a good Japanese restaurant but Kyoko's went above and beyond our expectations. We will definitely be back here soon!

A Friday night disaster! We were waiting for 30 mins to get appetizer, and another 30 mins to get entrees. The restaurant was understaffed and was a mess. We found six or seven tables are waiting like us for more than a hour without food served. What's worse is the food was incredibly bad. I ordered Katzu Don and the rice was raw and meat was like prepared a week ago. My wife's entree is supposed to be served with white rice, but they miss it. We just left and finished our worst dining experience ever!

Kyoko Super Deluxe Bento

Stopped by for dinner last night for the first time. Thankfully I ignored some of the negative reviews on Yelp because i my sushi meal is the best I have had in a long time. I was impressed with the waitstaff and the food was excellent. I have found my favorite sushi restaurant in CNY and can't wait to return.

The personnel are polite and quick, and your food will be ready in a blink of an eye. And the food here is of much better quality than some of the upscale sushi places!! Delish. All of it. We've tried probably half of the menu and every dish is great. Thanks so much guys, we're coming back for sure!

The wait for a sashimi and sushi platter was rather long, it took over 45 mins for my order to come out from the moment I placed it. The presentation was excellent but the taste was not. The sushi rice from the California roll and nigri was also very mushy and not flavorful. The fish itself was decent, not the freshest but not the worse either. The miso soup was lukewarm and kind of bland. The ambiance of the restaurant was nice, it's definitely going for a cozy Japanese restaurant type of vibe with the wood walls and flooring. That being said, there were too many things that made my experience not so great. I'd like to try this restaurant again maybe when they're not so short staffed and can focus on the quality of the food better.

There were a few positives to our meal. The gyoza that came with my bento box was good, and I also enjoyed the California roll. Unfortunately, the rest of the experience was disappointing. The chicken tempura was particularly underwhelming. It included only two small pieces of chicken, while the majority of the dish consisted of vegetables. The batter was extremely greasy, and the vegetables were soaked with oil to the point that it was dripping off them. Service was also lacking. Our server did not return to check on our table during the meal or offer beverage refills, which left us feeling overlooked. To make matters worse, I felt quite ill shortly after leaving the restaurant. While I cannot say with certainty what caused it, it certainly did not leave me with a favorable impression of the experience. Based on the food quality and service we received, I would not recommend this restaurant and do not plan to return.

We recently dined here for dinner and had a mixed experience…read more On the positive side, our waitress was very good. She was attentive and knowledgeable, and when we asked about the Papaya Seafood dish (we were specifically looking for the papaya), she explained that many customers do not like papaya, so the restaurant removed it from the dish and now only uses the sauce. While that was not indicated on the menu, the dish itself still tasted good, and we appreciated her clear explanation. Most of the food overall was decent and enjoyable. We ordered the hibachi filet and shrimp, avocado roll, California roll, miso soup, and spring roll. Everything was prepared well and met expectations for a casual Japanese restaurant. Unfortunately, the experience took a turn that overshadowed the meal. After I casually asked our waitress if she spoke Mandarin (which she did, and she kindly explained several things to us in Mandarin), a manager-looking woman wearing a dark green dress abruptly inserted herself into the conversation without invitation. She commented, "Oh, I couldn't tell you're Chinese," and then proceeded to ask an unsolicited and politically sensitive question: "Do you think Taiwan is part of China?" She continued to press political opinions that were completely unrelated to dining and entirely uninvited. Introducing politically charged topics to customers during a meal is highly inappropriate and unprofessional. Regardless of personal views, this is not something that belongs in a business setting, especially in a restaurant where guests are simply trying to enjoy their evening. Because of this interaction, we have decided not to return. Good food and service cannot compensate for uncomfortable, forced political discussions. Businesses should focus on hospitality, not politics.

It's small but when I go I can always find a table. We like the hot tea, the milk tea, and the miso soup is very good. And the takeout is great too. The only reason I'm not giving it 5 stars is because in the last year or so I've noticed some popular rolls and dishes like chirashi and California rolls have been prepared ahead of time. They're very cold, right out of the fridge, like sushi from Wegmans. I'm sure they were made that day, and I get they're trying to save some time, especially for the labor-intensive chirashi, but you can't taste it as well when it's cold like that. So I recommend sticking with some of the special rolls. We had a couple of the new ones today after they revamped their menu and they were very good.

I do think the meeting of Korean and Japanese food and drink is interesting. I do think improvement could be made. I feel the dishes could have flavors added to meats and some rice dishes. I also think it be a fun thought to provide small side dishes of some sort to add more to the Korean side of things. I feel there is a heavy influence of Japanese as is so little would need improving. The service is kind and attentive and adds a comforting relaxed tone to the place. Overall this is a place to come with small group setting with how it's laid out and even couples as it feels not just beautiful but romantic.
