Yummmy soft serve matcha! It's one of the best I've had. This location definitely has a lot of sit-down visitors and I wish it was bigger so we didn't feel guilty sitting and eating ice cream for 30 or so mins!

This is my favorite spot for ice cream. It's the perfect level and sweet and they always give you so much ice cream. The staff are friendly and the ice cream always comes out quickly. I've tried a few drinks and pastries but my favorite item is still the ice cream! The parfait is yummy too but sometimes it's a lot for one person to finish. The only thing is that it can be hard to find seating during busier times as there are only a few tables inside.

Some of the best matcha ice cream you can get! Love the vanilla-matcha swirl for a bit more sweetness from the vanilla. You can also add toppings; we love the mochi! This place was pretty busy on a Saturday evening, so seating was difficult to find. But otherwise the ordering process is self-service and very quick. Indoor seating only, to-go option available.

The parfait with the matcha and milk soft serve swirl was delicious!

I'm shocked I haven't reviewed Kyoto Matcha yet but I went after having not gone for a while and I was so glad. Their soft serve matcha and milk swirl is absolutely amazing- creamy but not overly so and not too sweet. I got the parfait and it was big enough to share for two or as a solo dessert. The mochi was super chewy and also not too sweet. The soft serve was truly the star though. The service was helpful and prompt with the food preparing and there were spaces appropriate for small and large groups!

This time I tried the matcha milk cap cake, and a matcha cream puff. Ok maybe it was an overload of matcha, but I wasn't a fan of the milk cap cake. It was like a matcha sponge cake with matcha milk tea poured on top and I thought it was kind of gross. I wasn't happy paying $11 for that. The matcha cream puff was good though. Next time I'll go back to my usual matcha towel cake!

Amazing spot for a sweet treat and to get some work done. Met up with a friend and we stayed here all afternoon to do work. Cozy vibes, cute aesthetics and smooth music. Personally didn't order anything but my friend got the matcha and she loved it. Love how they have 2 automatic ordering machines in the entrance. It also has pictures so you see what you are ordering.

This is one of my go-to dessert shops! Their matcha ice cream and boba cap cakes are my favorite. The staff is always friendly and the shop is very well decorated. It is also very clean and has nice (and not too loud!) music.

A quaint little dessert/cafe spot, it serves up really delicious soft serve that I always stop by to get. Clean interior that is nicely decorated, the service is a kiosk and everything comes out quick. Highly recommend the place if you like matcha desserts and ice cream!

Matcha-licious . -Matcha Crepe Layer Cake - flawless balance of sweet cream and matcha. -Matcha Nama Chocolate - delectably rich. -Towel Cake - wonderful presentation, fun to unwrap but not quite as sweet as anticipated. Simple dessert of matcha crepe layers wrapped around azuki beans...that's all. . Favorite matcha dessert cafe when the cravings are real. The interior design, ambiance, and friendly service feels just like the dessert cafes back at home in Hawaii - a pleasant, peaceful, and tasteful Japanese dessert take. . cheers (:

Adorable dessert spot with treats worth the splurge! I tried the cheesecake and the ube towel cake (think crepes and cream)--both were amazing. The interior has a super cute Japanese vibe. Definitely worth checking out!

I love Kyoto Matcha , I enjoy visiting all of their locations. I'm super excited about the location opening up in Columbia.MD soon. You just can't get enough matcha. The cashier's are always friendly and its such a tasty treat no more the occasion or time of year. My husband and I love to get the match soft serve ice-cream with the milli layer matcha cake crepe. We also love the Matcha Float with matcha tea base...50% sugar lol I don't like my matcha too sweet and this place offers the perfect balance of sweet and earthy deliciousness. You can even sit down inside and enjoy quality time with friends and loved while and share treats lol At this location parking is pretty good. It's location in a shopping plaza with other cool shops to look into.

Kyoto Matcha is one of my favorite dessert spots in the DMV. I love the matcha soft serve, ube bubble tea, and the matcha cake roll. I crave these desserts, they are always fresh and hit the spot every time. You order your desserts on the kiosk in front of the store and they will call your number once your order is ready. This spot has plenty of parking.

Love visiting the Rockville location for dessert after dinner and I had to check out this location since I was in the area. Much like its sister location, there were a variety of match desserts and Asian inspired desserts. The matcha didn't taste artificially sweet and had perfect natural matcha flavor. All the desserts were very balanced and sweetness. I love trying all the different desserts every time I come and my favorite so far is the milk cap cake. The crepe cake was also very good.

Ask the Community - Kyoto Matcha

Do speak English well and/or have ingredient information? I have multiple food allergies and I would love to come check them out since I love matcha, but it can be a challenge with language barriers. Thanks!

Did you just assume that they didn't speak English because it's a Japanese establishment? Yes they speak English. They are quite impressive with answering all questions about their products. I highly recommend it.

Introduction to history & deciding to go there:…read more Just read an article yesterday that Crazy Mason will be closing at the end of August. I was in old town Ellicott City on Saturday, April 18 for their Springfest. The only times I end up venturing to downtown is when there's some event going on. We were meeting up with my friend & his family. My friend's brother mentioned Crazy Mason was excellent and that they were very close to the concert stage area we were. I said to my girlfriend I'd be game to try them out to split a shake. Having one by myself is a lot of sugar, so splitting is a more sensible option, not to mention less total cost. This was originally the Ellicott Theater in the 1940's & 50's. Various performing artists, discotheque, etc. had its spot. It's cool this Crazy Mason milkshake place took over this space. Unusual for anything in the ice cream category to have such a large space. I also learned that they started in Myrtle Beach. I could see why as it's a touristy beach area, which various ice cream shops and some more unique options are more common than say in Howard County, MD. Although old town Ellicott City doesn't have the level of tourism that Myrtle Beach would, they have some and of course many locals who go here. In 2024, I had a friend in town, and we drove him up to old town Ellicott City to look around. I just read they started in June 2020 during Covid. The Ellicott City location opened in 2022. It's unfortunate they only lasted 4 years as they were outstanding. My experience: The staff was friendly. We asked for recommendations. The younger guy who was taking orders & making shakes, enthusiastically made a couple of suggestions to us. We settled on the Cookie Mashup, which was a shake with chocolate chip cookie, chocolate syrup, cookie dough bites, cookies n' cream, crushed chips ahoy, crushed Oreo, vanilla buttercream, whipped icing, and [deep breath] a whole Oreo on top. We opted to get it in their souvenir Crazy Mason jar, which is in a mason jar. We sat in the many seats on a lower level with a stage in the background. We waited maybe 10 minutes as they were pretty busy on that Saturday of Springfest. Wow, this shake was outstanding! One of the best shakes I've ever had. It was some flavorful with a lot of great ingredients. We both loved it. I will say it was quite messy, but it was worth it! The price was pretty expensive, but it was an experience. And I would get again, but it's quite unlikely I'll be in old town Ellicott City between today 8/11 & the end of August when they close. We asked the older gentleman who was the cashier & giving the finished shakes if we could wrap the mess we left behind on the mason jar. He said let me give you a new clean jar, which I thought was very nice, and let us keep the used jar too wrapping both of them carefully. In summary, I wish they were staying open for much longer than the next 3 weeks as they really were great and very nice staff/owner too!

Since we had just finished lunch, we didn't want one of the huge expensive milkshakes they are known for, although they did look delicious. Instead, my friend and went for one of our favorite treats: pineapple dole whip, swirled with non-dairy vanilla ice cream (for me) and of course, topped with rainbow sprinkles. The serving was large, and our order was ready quickly. Can't go wrong with dole whip, although the non-dairy ice cream was kind of flavorless. Still delicious though. The place is huge (it used to be an old theater) with plenty of tables. There is also a small game room up front with arcade games. Lots of cute murals on the wall to help capture the moment. There were also annoying gnats flying around, so I think next time I'll eat outside, but I will definitely be back.

People who came after me received their orders and drove off. I asked what was going on and they said they are making it. I sat back down.Nobody was making a sundae. I come here often and know it's gonna be a wait but when people after me are getting their merchandise and leaving then that's when it becomes a problem. I didn't make a fuss and accepted their apologies. Rachel offered to personally make it and give a refund. Thank you!
