Kyoto Matcha is such a dessert staple in the DMV. The matcha soft serve is the most classic item and I usually get the matcha only. But you can get the soft serve with half vanilla to break up the taste. The matcha flavor is clear and the ice cream is so creamy. It's good potion size and despite the price, it's worth it everytime for me. We also tried the rose lychee cake! I personally really liked it but some of my friends thought it tasted a soap haha. We thought it would be a circle cake like in the electronic ordering pictures but it's actually a square. Service was amazing, the staff was very patient. I am so disappointed by something so pretty. I am never buying from here again. I ordered online for delivery through Grubhub. There was such a limited to none of boba selection. The brown sugar boba I ordered tasted nothing like brown sugar with a non-creamy slushy texture and the boba pearls tasted stale, chewy, and expired. The purple sweet potato towel cake was aesthetically pleasing yet traumatically inedible, with an actual towel texture. The matcha crepe layer cake I ordered was amazing; the texture and matcha flavor was vibrant with balanced sweetness. I enjoyed the custard puff, great texture& creamy and sweet. The servers are ready to answer any questions. I was also impressed that ice cream samples are available if you request. I ordered the hot matcha with 50% sugar. It was delicious. Craved Matcha and satisfied it on a nice warm day. Although fairly empty, I used the self-serving kiosk which was fast and efficient. The staff calls your number up when the food is ready. I ordered my usual Mixed Matcha Soft Serve and decided to try a dessert. Their Mini Yuzu Cheesecake is a nice small size and heavenly. I always am on the lookout for Yuzu desserts and this was amazing. If you love cheesecake or nice light citrus flavors, I highly suggest this treat. It comes with sweet red beans and a tiny matcha cake on the side. If you come with family or friends who aren't matcha fans, this cheesecake and other desserts are for sure going to be winners. Much like the Kyoto Matcha in Rockville, this Kyoto Matcha is serving up a variety of delicious and more so absolutely stunning desserts. There's one thing I wouldn't mind becoming, and that's the social media manager for Kyoto Matcha lol. It doesn't take much to make these desserts look beautiful, most of the time merely putting them in front of a lens will do the job. If you've never been to a Kyoto Matcha, be prepared to expect a wide variety of drinks, a few soft serve options, mochi ice creams, and a long list of cakes that (some of which might be a stretch to describe as a cake). One of the specialties there is their crepe layer cakes which are built by stacking dozens of layers of thin crepes with a thin layer of filling in between. Their towel cakes are named as such because they resemble a rolled up hand towel. One thing I have yet to try is their "Dream Of Sakura" which is listed on the menu in their Kyoto Matcha Special Series. The dessert is a crystal clear rain drop resembling orb of dessert that is placed atop crushed up (I'm not quite sure) and contains what looks to be a flower inside. I can't find the description of this dessert anywhere, so I'd be very interested to know what exactly it is outside of breathtaking. The vast majority of the desserts use traditional Asian dessert flavors like ube, matcha, brown sugar boba, and more. But you can also find some flavors of Western origin in the peach oolong crepe layer cake, Earl grey tea crepe layer cake, Tiramisu crepe layer cake, or chocolate crepe layer cake. Whilst the desserts are eye catching, I've found a couple I've had there to fall a tad bit flat. That said, I am still looking forward to making my way through the menu and finding my happy place. read more

Came by after dinner at 9:30pm on a Thursday and it was packed even though they close at 10pm. We just chose to get the matcha soft serve in a cone since we were pretty full. The matcha flavor was absolutely perfect! It was strongly matcha flavored, almost bordering on bitter, but that complimented the sweet creaminess from the milk base of the soft serve. Super refreshing and light for dessert on a hot summer day! The store was bright and clean and everyone that helped us behind the counter were friendly.
