I had dinner nearby with friends and family and we were all craving dessert so we decided to visit Kyo Matcha on a Sunday evening. Parking wasn't ideal, the nearby parking garage was very compact and difficult to maneuver. There is some street parking in front, but it was all taken when we visited. I ordered the Lavender Matcha Latte along with some desserts and ice cream. All items came out quickly and just as ordered. I don't have a bad thing to say about the menu. There is plenty of seating inside, making it a great option for dessert with large groups. We had 7 adults and 2 kids with no issues finding seating during our visit. The staff were kind enough to make conversation with my toddler. I appreciated their patience as I encouraged him to order for himself at the counter. The soft serve here is so good! They have self order kiosks or you can order from the front cashier. The matcha swirl is the perfect way to end a meal when you're in the merriweather area for dinner. My personal favorite is their matcha soft serve parfait - it's pricey but SO WORTH EVERY PENNY! When I'm in the mood for boba, their boba is so chewy and perfectly made - none of that mush pearls you get sometimes. Their cakes are pretty great too, my go to is their milk cap cake & cheese mouse cake! Other cakes are fine but I've had better versions of it elsewhere. This is the cutest cafe to just relax in for a matcha date. Lots of good seating, fun decor, very insta worthy. I love to get matcha from the route 40 location, so I stopped in to get my usual order. This was so different. Tasted nothing like the strawberry matcha latte I usually get. I'm not sure if it is different owners, workers, etc, but it was not very good. My son's milk soft serve was delicious and a good portion size. I haven't had Kyo Matcha since the one in The Block a long time ago, and it was nice to finally have it again. I met up with some friends there, and you could either order with staff or on one of their kiosks. I usually love the soft serve swirl, but I decide to Branch out and get a parfait. The layering was excellent, and it was a unique treat that even had red beans in it. I savored that, and was sad when it was gone. Otherwise I hung out in the place a while and appreciated how spacious it was. I'm used to seeing it in food halls and the like, so it was nice to see them in an independent space. We sampled the pistachio (flavor of the month) and the Hojicha. My wife got the non-caffeinated flavors - the pistachio and vanilla and I got the caffeinated flavors - Hojicha and matcha. Hands down the best banana matcha latte I've had in my short but so far enjoyable career of drinking banana matcha lattes. The banana flavor was present but not dominating and the drink was not overly sweetened. The matcha flavor was good once I got my drink mixed well. I didn't ask but if you want a stronger matcha flavor you might want to ask for an extra shot of matcha. There is plenty of seating and I think I saw people with laptops. Double check to see if they have wifi but it would be a nice place to work for a little bit. Kyo Matcha also has sweets which I will have to try my next trip back. Kyo Match, from the perspective of a non matcha lover is amazing! While a lot of their menu centers around matcha based items, there are plenty of non matcha options. Originally I went because my sister wanted to try their matcha options, which she loved, however I've been back myself as I really enjoyed the items I ordered! You can order on a touch screen which is really nice to see all the menu items visually. The employees work fast to make your order and there is a pick up section with cutlery and napkins. The store feels very spacious and I love the brighter lighting. While I was there, I saw plenty of groups small and large enjoying their treats leisurely. You never feel rushed. I didn't take any pictures but their bathrooms are also really clean. This is a great coffee shop to enjoy your matcha and non matcha items alike. On nice days, they open the floor-to-ceiling doors, allowing a lovely indoor-outdoor flow. I ordered the strawberry matcha latte, the matcha and milk twist on a cone, and the brown sugar matcha with boba. Out of all three, I highly recommend the matcha and milk twist cone. It offers the perfect combination of a light cream flavor and matcha, making it an excellent treat after a long day. However, I wasn't a fan of either of the beverages; they were a bit too watered down for my taste. Nevertheless, I will definitely continue to return for the soft serve ice cream--it's the best item on the menu! You can place your order at the register or use one of the order kiosks inside. There are two kiosks to place orders, in addition to the traditional register. Each time I come, I have to get some sort of bubble tea whether it be hot or cold. I recently ordered the hot milk tea with boba and it was good! The boba quality here is always great. Being known for their matcha, the matcha latte, ice cream and slushes are always so delicious and rich in flavor. The ube towel cake, chocolate crepe layer cake and strawberry milk cap cake are all great. They're the perfect level of sweetness (not too sweet, but also enough to satisfy a sweets craving). I will mention that this location does not have board games like the one in Rockville. I brought a deck of cards to play with friends while we enjoyed our dessert! We recently used Kyoto Matcha for our company lunch this week, and the experience was outstanding from start to finish. We found them while doing some research last week and ended up calling at least three different times with various questions--and they were always patient, kind, and never once sounded annoyed. When we finally called to explain exactly what we were looking for, they worked with us seamlessly. We needed desserts for at least 40 individuals, had questions about their hours, timing, and logistics, and they answered everything thoroughly while offering helpful suggestions. We even stopped by in person to try a couple of desserts beforehand, which made us even more excited to move forward. We placed our order Tuesday evening and had the desserts delivered so we could cut and prepare them ahead of our Wednesday noon lunch. I truly don't think I can fully put into words the rave reviews we received from our staff. The desserts were absolutely beautiful, unique, and perfectly balanced--not overly sweet, just delicious.
