When I first started going to Roggenart European Bakery, I would order a sandwich to go, and whether it was hot or cold, they packaged it in a clear plastic container. The presentation was beautiful--colorful, appealing, and the bread stayed firm and crusty. They truly use fresh, high-quality ingredients. Unfortunately, that has changed. Now, hot sandwiches are wrapped in paper and then in foil. This method traps moisture, causing the bread--especially their delicious sourdough--to become soggy instead of crisp. It seems like this change was made to save money, but it really takes away from both the presentation and the quality of the sandwich. For a sandwich that costs $12.95, I would gladly pay a few extra cents for the original packaging if it meant keeping the bread fresh and crusty. read more

So I'm days behind. However, I didn't happen to drop in on this marvelous establishment. In all honesty this wasn't my first choice, there was a 90 min wait another place to i opted for the hidden gem here. I'll say the staff was amazing, the coffee was a hit and run lol. I had an sandwich, I can't remember the name of it currently but I'll update this later with the name.. so I say all this to say the serve was good, the food tasty. A bit pricey for what you get so it wouldn't be a first suggestion but if you do want taste here it is. The space is tight so I had to sit outside, wasn't too cold so it wasn't much of a bother so be prepared. If you want to sit down and eat may want to go at a good time. I give them 3 and a half stars but there's no half so here my three... Overall, pleased with taste just the price and the seat availability was a bummer.. Thank you for your establishment. read more

DoorDash review I ordered a Fruit Tart, Chocolate Brioche Babka, Brownie, and Iced Mocha Latte (16oz) I received the chocolate brioche babka, iced mocha and two other pastries that I did not choose. I understand if they run out of items however they should not choose what is sent in their place - send a message, make a phone call or refund the money! Lovely bakery with kind staff, strong coffee, outdoor seating, and delicious food. There were so many delicious options to choose from, but I decided on the chicken salad sandwich on croissant, the strawberry and custard stuffed croissant, and a hazelnut iced latte. The coffee was a little strong for my taste, but to be fair I'm not a habitual coffee drinker. But for my caffeine lovers out there, I'm pretty sure it will hit the spot. The chicken salad sandwich was delicious! I've never had a chicken salad sandwich with tomatoes on it though so I was a little skeptical at first, but fortunately it was very good. The custard and strawberry-filled croissant was divine. Simply divine. Perfectly sweet, nice subtle crisp from the croissant, a drizzle of chocolate... Just an absolutely divine sweet treat. Despite being all metal, the chairs in the outdoor seating area were actually quite comfortable. After I enjoyed my breakfast, I hung around for a little bit to enjoy my iced latte and read a couple of chapters of a book. I was completely comfortable the entire time. 4.8.25 Very slow service! It was dead at around 5:15pm on a Tuesday yet it took a long time to prepare a chicken salad sandwich. Hubby and I don't come here often. Prices have gone up and portion seems smaller than I remember. Sandwiches used to come with chips, but now you have to pay $1.49 extra. The chocolate cookie I purchased today was hard and tasted old. It's better to come earlier in the day when the food is fresh. Check your mail as they have often have a $5 off $20 purchase coupon. read more

My cousin recommended this bakery since I am on a hunt for new places to work from in Howard County. The space is very quaint and filled with vintage-style decor. The seating area is not big, but it can accommodate a decent number of people. They also have seating outside. I ordered an omelet and regular coffee with oatmilk. I asked for jalapenos to add to my omelet, and they didn't have any pepper options. The omelet was okay. I have had better and I have had worse lol. It was good for that day. I don't remember the coffee, so it must have been okay too. As far as a working space, this wouldn't work for me. They do have free wifi, but there are limited seating areas that are close to an outlet. Overall, a solid bakery if you're in the area. read more

Very cute breakfast and bakery. I have tried sandwiches and the fresh baked pastries and loved both. I use to come in for the lattes but they are a second to any baked goods. If you want to try a few options they also sell the items from the day before for half off which is very cool. You will see many people come to sit and socialize and there are occasionally people who will pop in to work. There is no rush to get through the line to expect to take your time. read more

The Grand Opening sign is still outside the Reston/Herndon location. The staff said they had been open "about one week" when I visited on 21 August. The croissants are extra large as they claim. And, the taste is great. They are flaky and buttery. The other pastries looked good, but I have yet to taste the ones i brought home. At over $4 per item, the price seems to be in line with other recently opened bakeries in the area. The only real negatives were: 1.The cafe can accommodate a lot of patrons; the air conditioning was turned up too high for the number of patrons in the cafe in the afternoon. 2. Gated parking is available and free for up to three hours. I plan on returning. read more

Not sure if the same owners or not as the Savage Mill location, but this location I feel had a better rhythm of service going, even though they were just as busy and slammed on a Sunday afternoon. The all ladies crew were hustling hard so mad respect to them for holding down the fort. My food was warmed up this time! Yay! Warm food makes such a difference in the taste. The quiche I got was good, and my bf enjoyed his pain au raisin. The seating seemed more ample and cozier. If I had to pick a Roggenart location to visit I would probably pick this one. This message is to future discourteous diners- pick up after yourself! It is so rude and discourteous to just leave your mess behind on the tables when the signs around the establishment clearly say to put your used dishes in the dish tubs. Take out | $10-20 I thought I would give it another try since service has been poor here but ordered a bacon, egg, and cheese sandwich through their website app (which is powered thru door dash) at 11:40. Arrived at the store at 12 pm, received my coffee, server went to check on my sandwich. At 12:15 I asked for a refund for the sandwich since I had been waiting so long. Was told I would need to request thru doordash. The doordash app support only gives the number back to the store. After going in circles with the staff I asked can I just get my sandwich (now we're at 12:30). I waited another few minutes, was given my bag and left. Here I was Sat morning 10:40am about to try a new bakery and was made so uncomfortable by a female staff member who came out the kitchen questioning me about why the line was formed incorrectly and speaking to me rudely and dismissively when I said I just stood where everyone else was. She doubled down on the rudeness and pressured me to start the move of the line with 15 people behind me. Her energy even empowered a customer to cut me and pressure me asking if I'm leaving or staying after I told my partner how the staff treated me while she was admiring the pastry case. Tatte would never treat anyone this way. I felt targeted and embarrassed. Such an unfortunate experience and I hope the owners require their staff to treat every customer with respect and train them on communicating to all customers equally. read more

We came here for breakfast and got croissant sandwiches. This place smells amazing, with all kinds of baked gopd. I got a spinach, egg whites, cheese and added prosciutto, and my husband got sausage egg. Their breads and baked goods are fresh and perfect. The eggs are very fluffy. Hi everyone I had the pleasure of enjoying Roggenart Bistro & Cafe. There was plenty available seating in the dining area and free WiFi. The line wait was minimal and I was greeted by the server when I was next in line. The display of pastries looked very tasty and freshly made. I ordered the omelette which was very flavorful from the sautéed spinach, mushroom, red peppers, tomatoes, and onion. I think a touch of fresh cracked black pepper would have added the perfect seasoning for me. The croissant was very flaky and light and balanced well with the added sliced avocado. The sausage patty was pretty standard and consistent yo what you can find at many restaurants. I will suggest you opt for the pastries because they truly shine. I had an apple danish which (not pictured) had an amazing balance apple filling and dough that excited the palate with sweetness and savoriness. Similar to the croissant the danish was flaky and light so I didn't feel heavy after consuming it. Also not pictured was the mocha latte which wasn't my favorite. The richness of the cocoa didn't shine as much as I hoped and the drink had more sweetness than bitter. I'm sure I can have the mocha specifically made with clearer instruction so no fault of the barista. Bonus - These guys do a good job of minimizing waste. Cute cafe not too far from Columbia Ale House - for a point of reference! Looked up nearby coffee options, and this popped up! Good amount of seating indoor and outdoor seating. Parking isn't terrible. Several options for sandwiches, salads, and bakery treats. Plenty of flavors for lattes. It was busy on a Saturday morning. The pastries ranged from croissants to cupcakes to cookies to streudels. We picked up two cupcakes (carrot and chocolate). They both tasted good but were harder than you'd expect cupcakes to taste, so we know they weren't just made. This bakery has a dedicated section for books and seating area (which was blocked off/not accessible). The cashier was friendly and helpful in identifying prices and flavors. Very cute cafe with lots of pastries. I got a savory pastry which tasted fine but was still a bit cold inside. Got the matcha which just tasted like milk. I met my husband here for lunch on a Monday afternoon. The servers were very friendly and personable. They definitely make the experience feel like your visiting family.the ambiance was giving bistro/cafe quiet enough to work, but loud enough to chat. I ordered a match latte and my husband ordered cortado. Unfortunately, my drink wasn't the best served hot, which they shared but after the fact. If you do get matcha there, I recommend the cold one. I then ordered a chicken avocado melt. It had A LOT of cheese if that's your thing. The avocado was fresh and the chicken was well-seasoned. It was just a bit hard to eat since it was open faced. Very cute bakery and cafe at Savage Mill. I ordered the iced tiramisu latte and a chocolate chip cookie. The chocolate chip cookie was so good! It had a slight crunch on the outside, and a soft and buttery inside. I saw someone buy a box of 6 and considered doing it myself The latte was not my favorite though. The coffee was good, but the flavoring did not taste like tiramisu at all. It kind of just tasted like a really sweet hazelnut syrup. I would probably just order a plain iced latte next time. I have tried the almond croissant and cinnamon roll from the farmers market at Shady Grove in the past , and those are really good too. So overall, I would say the baked goods from Roggenart are some of my favorites. read more

It was so good and not too sweet Ham and cheese croissant: 6/10; gf said it tasted between okay & good lol Cappuccino: 4/10; it was mostly bitter and not very good even after putting in some sugar . I visited another location about a month or so ago. I enjoyed the experience so much that I wanted to try another location to look for consistency. Recently, I had a quick business meeting in the late afternoon on a very rainy day. The place was almost filled to capacity, which was surprising considering the weather. At first glance, the attention-to-detail was not at the same level as the other location that I visited. Since it was a very quick visit, I ordered the cafe au lait again along with the red velvet cookie. The coffee tasted old and certainly was not at the level of the coffee that had early in the day at the other location. However, the red velvet cookie on this visit was better only because they warmed it up for me, which made it moist and delicious. As stated earlier, the place was crowded, so there was only one table on the side with the bookshelf. The available table couldn't have been more perfect because the bookshelf aesthetic was what we needed for social media content. Quick story: I was at another Roggenart who wasn't able to bake bread at that time. They directed me to this location, and because I was on a very specific mission for baguettes, I called ahead. I spoke to Ash, who said they had one left and they would be happy to hold it for me. A quick drive later, we wound up here and picked up said baguette. Ash said if we didn't mind waiting about 5 minutes, they could bake up another. Sure! So, we ordered a pastry, waited a bit, and there was a piping hot baguette ready for us. The moral of the story is: customer service means far more than ever these days. Ash deserves recognition and possibly a trophy for going above and beyond. They had a wonderful selection of pastries, more so than the first location we stopped at. They have a great location in Columbia, though my only complaint is the state of the parking lot (which is obviously out of their hands). There's enough seating for your basic coffee shop, including outdoor seating. I am glad places like Roggenart exist. We need them in this hectic world. This morning, I woke up with an intense craving for a delicious croissant. I happily headed to Roggenart and arrived just a few minutes after they opened. I ordered an almond croissant and grabbed a cast iron pressed pesto chicken sandwich for later. The croissant was perfect, and it took a lot of willpower not to devour it on the spot. The same goes for the sandwich. Updated and I didn't realize it had been so long! Since yesterday was Pi Day, I really wanted some quiche - but not enough to get in the kitchen and make one! I ordered takeout: one spinach and tomato quiche, one Quiche Lorraine. Also, because what meal is complete without dessert, two pains au chocolat, commonly known as chocolate croissants (although they aren't crescent shaped at all, lol) The order was ready when I arrived, nicely packaged AND they observed my "special request" for no utensils or napkins. That impresses me because so many places put in paper napkins and plasticware automatically. We split both quiches and I only ate half of my halves, very filling! The balance of spinach, tomato and egg was perfect, and the veg were so flavorful. Every bite a delight. And the Lorraine! chef's kiss! Both had excellent crusts, dense without being too much. The treats, well I have been just taking a nibble or two every so often, so mine isn't gone yet. They have a lot of pastries to chose from and I especially enjoy their chocolate croissants. I do like their coffee, but I always wish they would do some decorative latte art on the lattes for the in store purchases. That is half the reason I got to coffee shops.
