My absolute favorite sushi spot these days. Can't believe it took us so long to find this place when we live so close to it! The service is amazing. The waitstaff is very friendly and accommodating. The sushi is fantastic--so fresh and flavorful. Our favorite is definitely the Kamikaze roll, but we've also enjoyed the Mexican and Valentine rolls. So so good. The soup, salad with ginger dressing, and regular ol' rice are all yummy--even my 2 year old loves coming here. Small restaurant, but clean and inviting. This place has become a staple for us. My evening here was one of my best dining experiences.  The space is very clean and simple.  It makes you feel relaxed.  The staff is attentive and extremely knowledgeable.  The best part, of course, is the food. Every piece of sushi is well thought - out down to the grains of sea salt on top. The fish is fresh and perfectly seasoned with just the right amount of soy sauce, lemon juice, wasabi, etc. The staff also explain each piece and the order that it should be eaten. The meal ended with a hot tea which is very refreshing and a perfect way to end a sushi meal. We moved to the area about 3 months ago. In that time, we've tried a bunch of local restaurants. Places we heard were good left us feeling duped. Aside from a very few places, we've been surprisingly disappointed with the food scene in the area. Until today. In the mood for good sushi, I consulted Yelp (once again) and saw a new name pop up- Kyoto. I decided to take a chance and try it. It is a small place, clean, and quiet, considering it is on Washington Ave. The owner greeted me, and after looking over the menu I ordered a kani salad, crunchy spicy tuna roll, mountain roll and a California roll (in case the others weren't good) for takeout. While I waited, the gave me a spicy kani hand roll and talked with me as if we were old friends- they made me feel really welcome, and by the time I left, I couldn't wait to go back. The food... The kani salad was deliciously spicy and fresh. The spicy tuna roll equally good and they'd mixed the tuna right in front of me rather than scooping it from a pre-made bowl like so many other places do. The mountain roll was my favorite...shrimp tempura, asparagus, avocado, cucumber, spicy crab, scallion and eel sauce. O.M.G.!! The food is very reasonably priced and they have a nice assortment of special rolls. If you are in the area and looking for really good sushi, this former New Yorker highly recommends Kyoto! read more

This place always hits the spot. The sushi is always so delicious and fresh. The portions are perfect and they always have a great special. Buy 2 special rolls get 1 free. They have such an amazing variety of options and its great to try something new each time but my go to is the valentine roll and the mexican roll. Always such a hit! Kyoto happens to be right around the corner from my job, so my co workers and I stop in for lunch every so often. They had closed for a while, but, have recently re opened and the new owners are absolute sweethearts. The sushi is always consistent and always fresh. I am obsessed! Being a broke college student has its downfalls but Kyoto Sushi had my back when they offered a student special, 1 roll for $3, 2 rolls for $5 and honestly with that price, how could you resist? Sushi is fresh and the rolls are nicely made as they do not fall apart while you pick them up no matter how big it is.. My personal favorite is the spider roll, i will definitely be coming around more often than i should! Staff is very friendly offering my friends and I spring rolls and a can of soda on the house. I am so upset at this place. First off, they are under new management, which is unfortunate since I really liked the old managers. I called to place an order asking for the lunch special (which used to be $5 for 2 roles that were on the menu and a miso soup) for the chicken tempura, only to find out after I got there, that 1) they don't have chicken tempura on the lunch menu, 2) even if they did, it wouldn't have been $5, and 3) they charged me $12.73 when I clearly asked for the $5 lunch special. They could've told me all of this over the phone. But the best part is that technically I paid $12.73 for only 10 pieces of chicken tempura when it would've been $5 for 16 pieces. Too bad what used to be my favorite sushi place will not be getting my business anymore. read more

Fresh fish, fast service and the price is perfect, try the vegetarian soup made by its owner Mrs. Grace she makes it by scratch home made... is a delight! They have great prices and deals. 3 rolls for $12 or buy two special rolls get one free. AMAZING. They also gave us a few complimentary hand rolls and maki rolls to try. The food was amazing. My only experience with sushi is from this place and Whole Foods, but I think the quality is very good for the price range. The restaurant itself is nice and quiet with a few tables and sushi bar. The TV is usually playing japanese TV shows, but every time I go into the place they seem to change the channel to Spike TV. When you eat in they serve you with a salad and soup before you get your sushi, which is served on a wooden board with a small tray for soy sauce et c. When I went in sometime around new years eve they gave me a small calendar, which I thought was very nice. As the sign on the door says, you are allowed to bring your own alcohol to consume. This is very convenient considering Brewers World is right across the street. I'll be sure to grab a six pack the next time I eat lunch there. read more

This place is a joke! I couldn't believe it with all the good reviews here. First of all the hot green tea was basically plain hot water with no green tea taste. The shrimp tempura wasn't the tempura batter. If you had Japanese shrimp tempura, you know it's very crunchy. This one was a sad looking one. Then came my salmon special roll with a fake paper thin salmon on top. If I ordered the regular one, it'd only cost $5! I'm not even gonna talk about the unusual small portion here. If you had real salmon sushi/sashimi before, you know what the real salmon look and taste like. It's very poor quality even for American/western sushi standard. Stay away and go somewhere else like the one in Ridgewood. read more

Korean copy cat sushi restaurant that serves very low quality sushi. The sushi rice that is supposed to be 90% of what sushi was undercooked. The temperature of fish and rice was not right and the sushi was not prepared traditionally leaving a very subpar sushi experience for the price. Please skip this place for a better sushi experience.
