We wanted to quickly have something and decided to try this out with the hope that one day we can try AYCE rolls and see if this would cater to our vegan needs. We assumed that all the rolls in the menu item # 92 Vegetarian Maki Set would be vegan. The lady on the counter said Mango Crispy is not vegan (we could understand) but even the Sweet Potato was not! She would not adjust the special and thus she would charge us individual prices. All together we did not end up paying little less! We would have preferred some flexibility. The rolls were fresh. The rice properly seasoned and Nori seaweed sheets tasted a bit crispy. The girl did throw in the Miso soup as most Japanese restaurants do with just every order. For Georgetown, its pretty good sushi. Green Dragon, Red Dragon, Spider Roll, Sashimi (Salmon and White Tuna), Tempura, and Dynamite Rolls were all solid. Spicy Salmon Handroll and Dynamite handroll were both dry. Not Sure I'd order again. Keep in mind you're in GEORGETOWN. Its not going to knock your socks off-- nothing special but pretty good. Kyoto Sushi... I enjoy a good all you can eat at their prices it's honestly amazing! However I have experienced some issues within their food such as I once found an elastic band in my miso soup that looked like it had maybe came from chopping green onion; they said I could have a discount 20%... but then ended up giving my bill for free which was much appreciated. The servers are not interested in speaking to you- they are there to bring your dishes and that's all. I actually like this aspect of kyoto where the waiters and waitresses don't bother you but if you want good customer service you may not like this way of their work. read more

In Georgetown, your options are limited. Kyoto is solid, and the food is generally good, but not exceptional in any way. Friday and Saturday, the place is packed. Good stuff to order: Sushi/Sashimi is generally well put together and fresh, but with limited selection for fish types. Salmon belly is very good, as is the deep fried wontons. The fried rice is also very good. Avoid: I love kalbi, but I find the taste of theirs is lacking. Also not a fan of their noodle soups, of which they have a lot to pick. Service: In line with most other AYCE sushi places. Items go missing and/or never arrive. Generally people don't smile; language barriers are a thing. Polite though and they do their best. Tips for owners: Diversify your menu - trim the lowest performers out, and replace with something different. Fix your kalbi (please). read more

It is tough for me to rate Kyoto Sushi, because I only know the standard of Japanese AYCE in Toronto and Markham/RH; I have no knowledge to judge the relative quality of Kyoto when compared to other AYCEs in Georgetown. Having said that, if you reside in or near Georgetown, please rest assured that Kyoto stakes up against its Toronto rivalries nicely. Selection: For sushi, sashimi and maki, average, as in not less than, when compared against Toronto's AYCEs. For cooked items, the selection is quite a bit fewer than Toronto's AYCEs. Quality: Sashimi and maki are very fresh and well made (especially the sashimi). Sushi is a thin slice of fish over a big lump of rice. It fares lower than good AYCEs in Toronto, but it fares average against the average AYCEs in Toronto. For the few cooked items we ordered, their quality was on par with Toronto's AYCEs. Services: It was very good: Polite servers. Quick food delivery. No missed orders. Frequent water and tea refills. Prompt removal of empty plates. This level of services will be ranked very good in any AYCE in Toronto. Decoration: Contemporary, spacious and clean. The standard is at par with most Toronto AYCEs. Kyoto Sushi is a solid AYCE on my book, even if it were located in Toronto. 3 stars for food and venue; 3.5 stars for overall as the services is excellent. read more

Shrimp tempura is excellent, as are California rolls and chicken teriyaki. More sushi selections on dinner menu than lunch menu. All you can eat prices for lunch for adult is $16 and dinner is $25. Prices are slightly higher on weekends. We always feel we get good value at Kyoto's however they will charge for food you can't finish and need to bring home. Ordering has seemed to run smoother since they started with electronic ordering on iPads vs pencil/paper checklists. read more

Service is good. They are very quiet and not overly helpful in explaining the menu (this is likely a language barrier) but they are polite, efficient, and it's rare that ordered items are missing. If they do miss one just let them know and they bring it quickly. Food is not great but definitely good. Sushi has been consistently good. Sashimi is hit or miss depending on who the sashimi chef is that day. Some days the sashimi is sliced very well and other days it is sloppy and cut incorrectly. Fried food are done well and not greasy. Dipping sauce options are limited. Teriyaki steak and salmon are excellent. Stir fry and noodle options are ok but the flavours are very repetitive in many of the dishes. Menu is fairly extensive and there is choice for everyone. Prices are fair and the atmosphere is quaint and clean. read more

Gone here a few times and the service was good except the last time I went with my friend we felt like the server didn't enjoy her job from the moment we went in. We were not greeted with any kind of smile/expression on face. We didn't know if we had to wait for a table or chose one. We asked and she just pointed without saying a word. We sat down, she brought the pad over for us to order again not looking so happy. We ordered... Got our food quickly so that was great. When it came to the end we ordered 2 green tea and one red bean ice cream. She brought the ice cream in 2 bowls, and the green tea had the 2 scoops. We told her that we both wanted a green tea that's why we ordered 2 and she quickly snapped back with attitude and said that there was 2 of us, and we only get two bowls and that we can share.. leaving us speechless we thought to ourselves why it was such a big deal that she couldn't give us an extra tiny bowl? She didn't come over anymore and we waited for a bit before having to flag her down and ask for the bill and she said again with attitude in her voice, pay upfront. I understand we may all have our days, but this is not the type of service I would expect, right from the moment we walked in. I did not tip because I did not feel like the service was great. This used to be my favourite place to get sushi Something has changed. The service is now slow, it's either too cold or to hot in the Restuarant making it uncomfortable. On this visit it was myself and my kids which one loves sushi. They brought me out an order that I did not place, when I stated I did not order that they came out with a slip and said I did, I agreed it was marked, but with another coloured pen then the one at our table. She made a face at me and huffed. Then shortly after they misplaced another section of my order. I love this place because it's small, not overcrowded on weekdays, it's fresh, and the price is right. The menu options allows those who are new to the world of sushi, to choose cooked items. The staff is ok, not too friendly, but they do their job. I go here for the food, not the staff. read more

Was at Kyoto on Labour Day and was very disappointed. We sat by the entrance for over 10 minutes without any acknowledgement whatsoever. Then another couple entered the restaurant and they were seated first. I believe the restaurant is under new ownership and service is not priority. Add to that the price just increased. Disgusting food and terrible staff. I frequented the restaurant on a number of occasions. Up to this point I had been satisfied with the quality of food (though it wasn't great); however, when I recently ordered take out (spending $60) the food was disgusting (the used canned or cooked salmon in the spicy salmon) and included "Wings" Chinese Soya Sauce. I was absolutely shocked at how bad this was. When I called to complain they were unaccommodating and condescending. They refused to do anything about it, and told me that it was normal to provide that type of soya sauce. They told me the manager couldn't speak to me, unless "I spoke Chinese" (WHAT?); and asked rude questions like -"have I ever lived in Asia?" This is single handedly the worst experience I have ever had in my life, I will never, ever visit this restaurant again read more

I've been here a few times, and compared to other AYCE this place is by far the best one I have been to. The service is fine and the food is actually fairly good again compared to many other AYCE places. They are the only place that serves squid tentacles my absolute favourite. This place is not good... The sushi options are mediocre at best. The salmon tastes old, the surf claim and snapper feels as if they have been frozen and thawed. Their spicy tuna and salmon were very disappointing, they just mix the fish with fried batter and some spicy sauce making it taste really greasy. The kitchen food is also very greasy. When I moved to Georgetown I was fully aware that I wouldn't be entering an epicure's paradise. But I've actually been pleasantly surprised by some of the restaurants here. Unfortunately, Kyoto Sushi isn't one of them. The food left a lot to be desired. The sashimi was alright, not mind blowing but certainly not bad. The maki are way too big to eat, and if you take a bite to try to break it in two, it falls apart. The appetizers were also decent, but anything that was fried had the aftertaste of old oil. What did surprise me was the service. I'm used to being forgotten about, not getting my orders, and having to re-order or just deal with it. Not the case here. They're old school and don't use those stupid iPad apps that crash all the time and it shows. Staff are nice and pleasant. Perhaps the craziest thing is that pop costs $1. In an age of four dollar sodas, that's refreshing. So to summarize: nice decor, friendly staff, good service, but they can't overcome the lack of quality and care in the food preparation. Perhaps it's gone down a bit since some of the really enthusiastic reviews were posted here. If you're looking for sushi in Georgetown, try Yo Yo on the east end. It's not all you can eat, but the portions are more than adequate and the difference in quality is well worth it. read more

Just left Kyoto Sushi. All you can eat, Table for 2. Business volume was moderate for a Sunday evening. We placed an order on a paper sheet and did not receive our cold orders until almost 30 min after they picked it up from our table. Being an ex Restaurant mgr, we were frustrated but decided to be patient. My wife suggested to place a second sheet order as we ate our cold items so we can immediately receive it after enjoying the first order. That order sheet was picked up. We then receive the first item on the second sheet, confirming the rest of our first order wasn't coming. We spoke to a server who checked what happened and we were told our first order sheet was thrown in the garbage. We then said we would like to pay for what we only ate and leave. A manager was informed who seemed in a panic. We finally stood up since their conversation was taking too long also! When we arrived at the counter, I overheard the server speaking half in their language and english. In english, I heard "they do not want to tell me what they ate". Wrong! We told her. We then repeated ourselves to the Mgr who unfortunately wasn't able to speak english well, which was fine.. we said we will pay but not full pop as we didnt eat much.. 12 pcs small plain sushi, 6 pc tempura, a miso soup & 2 pop. The manager offered only 15%. (42.50+tax)!!! The price was $25/person for all you can eat! We said we aren't paying that as we didnt eat much. We finally settled on $35 + tax all together. Not very attentive, servers never noticed our table wasn't getting any food. Doesn't know how to diffuse a situation, offers bad solutions to situations which escalates the problem... Im sure its a good restaurant for some but it was the first and last for us. read more

Was disappointed with the sushi. Friendly staff bumps this rating up to two stars. The sushi is a bit sweet and is over 'sauced'. I lived on the west coast for some time so I was exposed to really good and fresh sushi. Really good sushi is a combination of fresh ingredients that are layered together creating amazing flavours. We were not bowled over by our experiences. The food was okay (not nearly as good as Yoyos but also not nearly as expensive) but the service was brutal. On our last visit I had to ask the waitress to stop vacuuming around our table due to the noise. Yes, vacuuming... and it was nowhere near closing time.
