THIS SUSHI IS SO CHEAP WTF. I'm currently writing this review as I'm eating the takeout I just ordered from walking in. I purchased a salmon Kamakachi roll. So yum! This is some of the best sushi I've had in a long time for an insanely cheap price. Not only was the roll $7 and prepared within less than a 5 minute wait, the ingredients are SO fresh. Very impressive because I came in half an hour before closing and neither did the rice or fish taste stale at all. Now for a disclaimer, if you're ordering on an empty stomach it'd be better off purchasing two rolls or a combo meal to satisfy your hunger. The portion I got was appropriate for an inter-meal or preworkout snack. I don't think it's realistic to expect a $7 portion of sushi to completely fill you up, but it sure did a great job to hold myself off until dinner in the meantime. The atmosphere is super cozy. I appreciate a non-pretentious restaurant especially for this area. Not to mention the level of cleanliness was great too, nothing looked beat or dusty. Usually some sushi places serve their food way too cold (if you know what I mean) or are overpriced for what they have to offer, but after my first bite it was an instant 5 stars for me. We came here on a weekday at lunchtime, but ordered Dinner Menu sinceI'm a sashimi-lover. Dinner menu is $34.99 during the week and $36.99 Friday-Sunday. The staff were friendly and the service was quite fast. You'll be provided with pencil and paper as many rounds as you want, but make sure you don't have leftovers as you'll get charged. We ordered Shrimp Tempura, Seaweed Salad, Beef Teriyaki, Salmon Teriyaki, Enoki Mushroom Beef Roll, Salmon Sashimi, White Tuna Sashimi, Red Dynamite Roll, Fire Kamakachi Roll, Dragon Roll and Red Dragon Roll. I came here with my friends for the dinner AYCE. It was a standard AYCE restaurant, but I felt the price did not match the quality of the food. It was almost 50 dollars per person, but the selection of the food was way less than other AYCE restaurants. Lots of the dishes did not taste good, so you need to be very careful before ordering too much at once (e.g., the beef teriyaki and a couple of other beef dishes were atrociously bad). The environment of the restaurant was absolutely not well-maintained (it was quite ran down with a distinct smell in the air), the service was ok though. read more

I love AYCE sushi places! And I like pretty much all sushi places I've been to! This one.. was not good. The sushi tasted all the same and bland, the teriyaki chicken didn't have a lot of sauce and didn't taste right. The edamame's tasted super buttery and mushy. The service was not great. They didn't explain how to order right with the blue sheets of paper. When we got our orders we weren't told what each roll was so my friend and I mid rolls figured out we had each others. The ambiance could be nice but there were screaming kids that were running around and parents weren't controlling them. It was just all very hectic. read more

This place is OK. Not a real sushi restaurant but your typical All You Can Eat sushi place. We came here because we were craving "don" bowls. (Gyu-don, Katsu-don etc etc.) We came here because they seemed to have a good selection of these "Rice Bowls" and had a section in their menu dedicated just to that. My wife got a Katsu-don which is a Fried Pork Cutlet Ricebowl and I got a Ten-don which is a Tempura Rice Bowl. We also ordered a Philadelphia Roll to share. When our food came we couldn't help but laugh. Our Rice "bowls" came on large flat plates. Why are these called Rice bowls and not rice "dishes"? Anyways. The food was alright. I am a frequent traveler who visits a new city 3 times a month. I normally like to check out some AYCE sushi spots and by far this has been my favorite. The food was very delicious, one of the waitresses was very smiley and friendly, and the experience was just simply amazing. I would definitely come back here when I visit this area again. I had some weird fish here but the cooked items were okay. It was blazing busy at this location. The bbq ribs tasted gamey (O_O). The restaurant is quite efficient for tables, can easily cater for 4-person parties; bigger than that - not sure. The washroom is interesting, a mixture of old decor from the previous renter and some old fashion propaganda wall paper. If you look very carefully you will see organs drawn in it. May not return to this one, but if you just want some cooked japanese items on Kerr street, this is one option. read more

Everyone talks about Taco Tuesday but I'm here to talk about Sushi Sunday. My family and I ordered Sushi from Yame on the weekend. We ordered through a delivery app. It arrived in decent time, well packaged, and soups were still hot! We ordered a variety of rolls and sashimi. I thought the yam roll could have been a bit more meaty, it seemed there was more emphasis on the tempura which was disappointing because it's my favourite! The spicy tuna, dragon, and bbq eel rolls were delicious and nicely rolled. The salmon sashimi came in huge pieces, which I loved. It was really fresh and tasty too. Weirdly, the tuna sashimi was a bit on the dry side. My dad ordered a bento box which came with beef, rice, sushi, gyoza, salad and soup! We were surprised to find that green tea ice cream was also sent! Funnily my mom thought it was a huge container of wasabi and mixed it into her soy sauce LOL. I'm so happy that the indoor capacity expanded since it gave me a chance to try this restaurant because they're always full and don't take reservations, so I'm very lucky to be able to walk in and get a table without missing the AYCE lunch! Price: The AYCE lunch is a around 18-19 dollars for Monday's to Thursday's which i found really reasonable! It ends at 3:30 so don't be late! The last time i went at 2:30 and didn't get seated until 3:30 and unfortunately they didn't honour the AYCE special, but it's ok, their lunch special is pretty good as well and ends at 4:30. Interior: The interior is nice and quite spacious. We got a booth which is nice. It's kind of hard to signal the waitresses as it is blocked off but it gave us a more private space. Menu: The AYCE menu for lunch was lacking in comparison to other lunch menus for AYCE. I was very disappointed when they didn't have any sashimis available or red dragon rolls. However, they had lots of sushi, maki rolls and specialty roll options. I just wished they had sashimis as sometimes, i don't want that much rice but still want to enjoy the fish. We ordered it off of a paper and pencil, which was kind of different in comparison to other AYCE restaurants with the iPads. Food: Overall, the food tasted pretty good. I think it's one of the better AYCE sushi places in Oakville. I liked the sushi options that they had and they had more fish. It tasted pretty fresh overall as well. The rolls were pretty big, however, i did notice it's smaller than the a la carte sushi rolls that I've ordered before but that doesn't really matter. I also did like their tempuras in comparison to other restaurants! The food also came relatively quick and the server was nice. Overall: Overall, i do think the A la carte tastes a little better than the AYCE but you can't really beat the price as it's very affordable for their lunch AYCE. Therefore, i do recommend this place. Just keep in mind that it does get busy during weekends, so if you want a table, you better get there early and be prepared to wait! Good tasted good, and I really only had an issue with the decor of the inside a bit dated and could use some renovating. Overall a good experience. The inside of the restaurant looks better than the outside. It actually looks bigger. For a Japanese place, it wasn't very bright (the lighting). The had an a-y-c-e menu, but we decided to go for a la carte. They had many selection of food that it was hard to decide what to eat. I ordered a bento box with asparagus beef roll which was cooked nicely. I would have preferred a bit more. The steam rice was small. The 2 veggie dumplings had a nice crunch to it. It came with 6 Cali rolls which was a good size but the avocado was browning already. Definitely not fresh. Earlier on, I had the miso soup which was not salty. The salad was drenched in the sauce with little lettuce. My partner had the spider roll which was decent. The one washroom was unisex and the decor felt like it was not changed from the previous owner. Nothing Japanese about it. The servers' English weren't the greatest so you had to pay attention to what they said. Verdict: It was alright, but I will only go back if I'm in that area in Oakville. There was a KerrFest happening nearby too! A community event. But perhaps, I'll try another local restaurant there. read more

I frequent this place every time I'm in Oakville and never regret it. I recommend going on a weekday afternoon and doing all you can eat here. That is definitely when you will get the most value for your money. My favourite things to order include: the deep fried maki rolls, the dragon maki rolls, the green curry chicken, and the udon. All are fantastic and have a really unique flavour to them. The service is also always friendly and quick. Your food will never take too long to arrive and it will always be hot and well made. Lastly, this place is also really good for accommodating large groups; my boyfriend and I often come here when his large group of friends (6-8 people) are having a get together. read more

I just dropped by here for lunch about 1.5 hour ago and I am disappointed after reading the 2 good reviews for Yame Sushi. Me and my friend got there at 12:15 pm and it took about 15 minutes for the server to approach us and get our order. I ordered the lunch bento box that came with 3 cali rolls, 3 salmon rolls, salad, and chicken teriyaki. The food took a very long time to arrive...approximately 20 minutes. The salad that came with my bento box was heavily drenched in dressing...the salad was basically drowning. Also, the chicken had way too much teriyaki sauce on it. The chicken didn't have any flavour at all so obviously it wasn't good. The only decent thing out of my bento box was the sushi. My friend wanted to go for a round 2 but the servers took a very long time to come get his order and when he did place his order the food took more than 20 minutes to arrive. By then we decided to leave. It took about 15-20 minutes to drive here and I will never return to Yame Sushi for the second time. The service was terrible and my bento box was disappointing. Next time I'll just stay in Mississauga if I want sushi. read more

Their sushi is better than most places in downtown Toronto (though it can't compare to Richmond Hill a LA carte), but I've ordered some additional things that make me think I should up my rating to 3.75 because they are total killers (in a good way) a) Kalbi b) Moscow roll - OMG! We wanted to explore oakville on a whim on saturday and try to find ayce sushi that wasn't a chain restaurant. We yelped it and found "yame" and glad we found this place. It was clean and was following all the covid protocols. We dined and was served well. I had to write a new review because from a year ago the sushi quality has gone down a lot! Whoever owns this place is just making it so bad all the sushi is now using fillers like tempura bits and other cheap crappy ingredients and the fish is no longer fresh, I ordered the salmon egg because it's my favorite and it came out so not fresh and so discussing looking the chef's or kids making the food should be ashamed of what they are putting out. Previously I had not given this restaurant the best of reviews, but I have been to this restaurant three times is the last little while and honestly, it has improved SO MUCH. On all three occasions we were greeted with a smile and seated right away. They still use the paper and pencil for their AYCE menu, but what's that saying, don't fix what isn't broken. Their sashimi is SO FRESH! Honestly I can't get enough of their salmon and tuna sashimi. I have never really liked the tuna from anywhere else until I tried it at Yame. Their spicy salmon and spicy tuna rolls are awesome. They are my favourite! Their beef ribs and tampura are great too. Love those little dumplings. The only reason I didn't give it a five star rating is it seems to be a little inconsistent. Some nights the salmon sashimi is a nice cut, other times it's almost see through and hard to pick up. This Sushi restaurant has both all you can eat and a la carte. The food is pretty good. The service was better. We had different types of sushi rolls and some soups, a la carte. I write this as I am trying to overcome the reprecussions of eating here last night. My pants are so tight they're going to pop any second. Why? Because YAME WAS AWESOME. I went here last night with a group of about 12 people for a friend's birthday. It was alot of fun. They seated us in the middle of the dining room, so it wasn't really private. But they didn't really have any other place that a group so large could sit. Fun bits: 1. The menu is your place mat. Feel free to dream about what to order next while you're eating. 2. They have a huge selection of special maki'z. The food: From what we ordered, which was basically everything, here are the things that stood out. 1. The Fire Kamakachi roll : Beautiful! Like a dragon roll with smoked salmon on top. 2. The Moscow Roll : So creamy and deep fried. 3. THE RIBS : OMG THE RIBS WERE FREAKING AMAZING. I CAN'T EVEN BEGIN TO EXPLAIN HOW AMAZING THEY WERE SO I'M USING CAPS. 4. The Beef Sashimi : My first time trying raw beef. It was soo good. Buttery and soft, and the dipping sauce was phenomenal! I ate it with everything. Especially went great with.. 5. The Beef Rolls (Onion and Enoki) : They were soo good. The group wasn't too big of a fan of the onion compared to the enoki, but I say that's because they are wussies scared of onions. It was amazing. The desert was standard fare : ice cream (Green Tea, Strawberry, Red Bean, Chocolate, Vanilla) They had mango on the menu, but they said it ran out. So I got a mix of strawberry and green tea. YAME IS YAMMY :D I'm always thrown off my the title "as good as it gets" when I rate a place 4 stars. I mean it's worthy, but it's probably NOT as good as it gets? Anyway, it is in my top 5 sushi places FO SHO! The only problem that it's way too far :( Yame has a la carte and AYCE (I usually go for AYCE, duhh). $22 dinner weekdays and $23 dinner Fri to Sun. Lunch is $14 during the week and $15 Fri to Sun. I came here a whole bunch of time, almost every single time I went to Oakville I ended up here. I could have easily rolled back to Toronto from the amounts I consumed... Yame is small, with 5-6 booths and a couple more stand-alone tables. Everything always looks very clean, including the bathrooms, which are decked out in 20s looking wallpaper advertising underwear and baking soda instead of toothpaste :) so cute. They have everything I want there - galbi, seaweed salad, amazingly fresh sashimi, specialty rolls, flying fish egg salad (try it!), tempura, etc etc. From the specialty rolls the fire kamikachi and moscow rolls are my favorite. Moscow has a deep fries crispy shell on the outside and crab/cream cheese/other stuff I can't remember on the inside. Fire kamikachi is a little spicy with smoked salmon. All delicious stuff. I WANNA YAME IT ALL!!! The staff are great - super friendly, helpful and quick. Orders usually start coming within 5 min and they don't make you fill out a sheet. They just take your order as you say it = much more convenient for you. If you're in Oakville - Yame is definitely a hidden gem worth visiting!!! read more

There are definitely some dishes that could be improved- like the beef teriyaki - but when it comes to maki rolls Yame can't be beat. The selection of rolls is endless- I would strongly recommend the Moscow Roll, the Sunshine Roll, and the Fire Kamacachi Roll. If you go for a little early for your lunch or dinner you will be able to select your seats but it does get quite busy during peak times. Service has always been quick until you want the bill- sometimes you are required to go up to the cash to pay. Prices are fair and the food is good- definitely worth a try. read more

Because when you visit an unfamiliar place and don't know where to go, Pick the place with the highest review and it will not dissapoint..This is usually the case, but definitely NOT for Yame Sushi..... Visiting my friend all the way in the other end of town, she was craving sushi so of course I would use my handy-dandy yelp app to see where I can get the best sushi around the area. Maybe because there isn't too many selection for sushi in the area, Yame sushi popped up first on top of all its competitors so of course I picked it, no questions asked. When I first walked into the restaurant, I felt very out of place which NEVER happens because I'M ASIAN! The place was swamped with oakvillians so I was a little skeptical.... Not to bash on Oakvillians but I think us East side would be more familiar with the food. I was not impressed with anything they served infront of me. The selections were VERY limited. By the second round of food, we didn't know what we wanted next because there wasn't much to choose from. I was prepared for the service not being great from what I read (although it wasn't "bad"... it was really quite typical of a mid-range ayce sushi spot in the GTA) and willing to wait out the lunch crowd knowing that on the other side I'd get to maow down on some delicious maki. Unfortunately, the offerings left a lot to be desired. Aside from the puney, unstuffed, loosely rolled maki being plated so lazily, that it didn't look appropriate to present, let alone eat, it was completely blah. Nothing special, dare I even say not very good. The nigiri wasn't any better. They get points for creativity in their menu but it's really a let down to actually see and eat their specialty rolls. I wound up getting a seaweed salad just to have something that had to be good and I couldn't bare more than two bites. It was bad. Somehow this place seems to please most folks but it was a real let down for me. I don't think I'd come back even if invited. Sorry but that's my truth. read more

I went there for dinner in a Saturday evening. The menu is good. The service was decent (3/5). The food tasted great but no forethought about apps before mains, slow to refill water/ tea, etc... While there they had what appeared to be one large group of teens for a birthday. They had tables all across the venue and walked from one to the other. It was very noisy as well. Ordered some sushi tonight after having been a customer here for years. We decided to get the usuals because they "had" never failed to satisfy us, but when the sushi arrived I was extremely disappointed to find that not a single piece was edible. None of the sushi had ripe avocado. It was all rock hard and very off putting. Not even our tempura zucchini was good which is pretty hard to mess up! The people at the restaurant are typically very kind and wouldn't hesitate to handle a matter like this especially since it could have been a mistake but when I called to inform them, they assured me I was incorrect and that the food was fine... They did nothing to assist me with my order nor did they seem to care if it was good or not. Needless to say, I am looking for a new sushi place if anyone has any recommendations. read more

One of the few restaurants we could find open for delivery during the ice storm. Our food was said to arrive within 45 minutes, I mentioned to my boyfriend I doubted that, 20 minutes top. I have a very love hate relationship with Yame. The aesthetic? Amazing in the worst/best way. It feels as if they didn't change anything from whatever restaurant previously inhabited it and that kind of gives it a certain authentic charm. The service is amazing until they decide to randomly charge you 20% tip without asking (not that I have a problem tipping that, it's just weird when you go with one other person and they add it to your bill). The food is amazing as long as you don't order sushi. I swear, the soups, salads, sashimi, side foods are all amazing. But the actual sushi is so bad that I usually feel like vomiting from it about two hours later. The sushi pizza looks beautiful and just tastes like a ton of rice. Went here for lunch yesterday for ayce with my two kids. Service was slow right off the bat and the lunch menu is quite limited. After ordering one round of food, and before finishing eating it, the owner came over to shout at us for not finishing all of the rice peices that come underneath the sushi. He stood at our table making various threats such as that he was going to charge us dinner price and add food wasting charges to our bill. I was upset and told him that this kind of treatment of customers was ridiculous and absurd. We asked for our bill immediately, reluctantly paid the additional charge he added, and left. I have never been treated that way at a restaurant before and it was quite a humiliating and insulting experience to have when paying for a $60 lunch, alone with my kids. I will never return here and I will make it my business to make others aware of the way customers are treated at Yame. I would give zero stars if I could. read more
