Awesome ambience! Bright and clean, great use of space with booths that are almost completely enclosed with a little curtain even so you can easily converse. There's a button on the wall when you're ready to order. We came for lunch after enjoying the Isabella Gardner museum, and didn't have a reservation but they had no problem seating us right away at about 1 p.m. today. We ordered the honeycomb appetizer plate, several spicy Sapporo miso ramens, a chicken shoyu, a beef shoyu ramen, and a Korean kimchi ramen. Our server was helpful and conscientious, making sure my brother's request for non-dairy was complied with, while still giving him options/alternatives. We're still not sure why the trend of adding butter to ramen broth became popular (although I do like butter). The Sapporo miso ramen was savory but didn't really taste like miso, it tasted like smoky chili. My kimchi ramen was wonderful, exactly what I expected. The chicken and beef shoyu ramen had delicious mellow broth, so they added the sauerkraut pepper provided on the table (plus shichimi and cayenne pepper) to taste. Was a decent place with nice ambience; I do wish that the flavor profile on the spicy ramen was more nuanced; the pork was tender, but perhaps not as plentiful as one might hope, and might have wanted a bit more on the accoutrements as well, esp. the corn. Bamboo shoots might have been nice as well. The agedashi tofu was nicely presented, with a large stash of fish flakes on top of each of four pieces of tofu. Kyuramen is an unauthentic pseudo Japanese chain restaurant catering to those who like to eat trendy Japanese food but have not actually eaten real Japanese cuisine and gets their other Asian food mixed up with Japanese cuisine. They take a variety of Japanese sounding dishes and ingredients all mixed into one bowl, like sure, let's take both Asian sounding food like shrimp tempura, tonkatsu, fried tofu, fried chicken and non-Asian dishes like steak and dump them all in a ramen with soggy noodle and mediocre broth, that's the concept of Kyuramen. Kyuramen also serves mediocre pork bao and popcorn chicken which are of Taiwanese cuisine. If they are upfront and just claim it's a fusion restaurant serving Americanized Japanese food, then at least that's somewhat acceptable that they are mixing cuisines, but Kyuramen puts Google translated nonsensical Japanese phrases on the menu that is almost at the level of cultural appropriation. Coming from the west coast, I am just utterly shocked at how many stores this chain has in the US...how many people are getting mislead on what is real Japanese cuisine. Many of these ingredients clash with each other, it's like if I take a bowl of pasta and throw in a Hawaiian pizza, steak, jackfruit, and balsamic vinegar then serve it with a side of buffalo wings at a restaurant that claims to be Italian. Stopped here for Sunday dinner around 5 pm. Was actually just planning on getting soft serve next door but saw that there were several open seats. Between us and another couple with children, we had 4 adults and 3 kids. They have a booth seating towards the back that comfortably fit all of us! Also provided a high chair which was a nice surprise. They gave the kids water in plastic cups too. We tried several items, the omurice with curry sauce, popcorn chicken, tokontsu ramen, spicy miso ramen, matcha pudding, and the jelly dessert. The food arrived promptly and was good, but I would say nothing was outstanding. I felt the portion sizes were a bit small too - much less noodles in the ramen bowls than expected. I ate the entire bowl and wasn't full. What was surprisingly great was the matcha pudding! It comes with a cute little thing of milk you pour over it. Rich matcha flavor. Went here last Tuesday to check out their Ultraman collab items before it ended. I started with the takoyaki (separate from the Ultraman bundle), which I'm not sure was wise because the next item was the pork bun that was about of their Ultraman was a bit filling. Their bun was thick with a few slivers of pork. Next is the curry with rice and chicken and shrimp. It was good, but nothing special. Also, not sure if it was the curry, but my throat started burning and I struggled to eat my meal afterwards. EDIT: The curry thing isn't their fault, I must be allergic or something, it never happened before. This was my 1st time here. On the bright side, this made me skip to dessert which was the HIGHLIGHT! I loved the Cherry Blossom jelly, so sweet and refreshing. The matcha tiramisu also settled my sweets craving, but wasn't as exciting. My brain took awhile to realize that Kyuramen more or less means 9 ramen (they have 9 types, from what I saw). Felt a little pressure sitting alone in the middle for a good duration of my meal while everyone looked my way (more as I was on fire lol), so I have to come back and redeem myself with ramen! read more

We came an hour before closing and quickly ordered a set for two before the kitchen closed. So appreciative that they took our order and got us the food so quick! Such a good value to get a set menu as you can try a bit of everything from popcorn chicken and desserts. I enjoyed being seated in the booths as it's a nice way to chat with friends. Seems like a cool place, we split one thing of noodles. It was the only vegetarian thing that we saw, and we liked, and that looks like it seemed to be a full meal. Between the two of us, it was definitely enough food. We sat at the bar, and towards the end of the meal we saw two of the kitchen workers crouch down and floss, their teeth? Or something? It was rather unappetizing, and one of them did not take off her gloves, and seemed to continue cooking after. I guess because of this I will not be back. The ramen is decent and scratches the itch but I still think the broth at totto ramen is my favorite. The skewers were really yummy - soft, tender, well seasoned, and much more affordable than other skewer places near by. The agadashi tofu was also a highlight. But for the affordable pricing, this is a great place to have on rotation for ramen. Service was ok. Staff was nice. I did a walk in and there were booths clearly empty but we were told we couldn't sit there because it was lunch rush time so we ended up at a table by the door. Came here on a weeknight for dinner and were seated quickly. The place was busy, but not packed. Decor inside felt modern with great wood decal. It also was clean and well lit. We visited Kyuramen on a Friday night around 8:30 PM and had a short wait before being seated. Including the wait, service, and our meal, we left just before they closed at 10 PM. The space was smaller than expected, but we were still comfortable since we were seated in an enclosed booth. It gave us a bit of privacy and made the experience more relaxed. I ordered the Katsuobushi Pork Ramen, while the rest of my group got the Tonkatsu Omurice Combo. We also tried a few drinks: Island Breeze, Lychee Lagoon, and Thai Iced Tea. The Thai tea was especially good. It was sweet, smooth, and refreshing. The ramen was the right portion and very filling. The broth was flavorful and the noodles had a nice texture. The egg was a little overcooked in my opinion, but that might have been because I waited too long to start eating. Everyone who got the omurice enjoyed it. The tonkatsu was crispy and well-cooked. One thing we noticed was that even though three people ordered the same dish, their food came out at different times. It also would have been helpful if knives were provided to cut the tonkatsu. One of my friends mentioned she would have liked the option to cut the egg and pour the sauce over the omurice herself. The servers do that for you when they bring the dish to the table. It's freezing out and we stumbled upon this restaurant in a very collegiate environment. Service was nice and hospitable. They are known for their Ramen soups. I started with ordering the beef and scallop yakitori. The scallops were horrific. Basically it was dipped in soy sauce and it was very hard in texture. The beef wasn't too bad. At that point, I thought this is a precursor to disaster. But then the noodle soup showed up and it all changed my mind. My spicy tonkontsu soup was excellent! It's unfortunate that businesses like these rely on fabricated 5-star reviews from their customers.. I didn't take a picture of it, but there were signs all over our booth that offered a free dessert for a Yelp or Google "check-in". After asking our waiter, he said that this actually needed to be a 5 star review and that his manager had gotten mad at him in the past for giving out dessert offers if someone's review wasn't 5 stars. This makes me feel like I, as a customer, can't trust anything that anyone says on these restaurant review platforms. I have dined at Kyuramen a couple times and it's flashy, making the food all very visually appealing, but the taste doesn't live up to expectations for me. It's worth a try for the speed and convenience but might need to explore the menu a bit to find something that hooks you. I probably won't be returning as I really didn't feel my best after the meal. Didn't feel sick but experience some heart burn (I'm 24 btw) and felt icky from all the fats. Food: We ordered the Katsuobushi pork ramen combo that came with a pork belly bao and a matcha pudding and an omelette rice with katsu and their lemonade. The ramen kind of confused me. I couldn't tell if it was the flavor of the execution that was slightly off putting. The broth was porky but too smoky from the bonito and it only got smokier as the bonito mixed in deeper. The toppings and noodles were as expected but the pork belly slices were predominantly fat and not as tender as I'd like. The bao had a similar issue where there wasn't enough supporting the fattiness of the pork. The matcha pudding (had to take it to-go because the ramen and bao were super heavy) had a good matcha flavor but a really gritty texture. The omelette rice was the better dish of the visit. It was very light while remaining flavorful and is probably what I would get on a return visit. Service: The wait staff was very attentive and you could call them easily with the buttons in the booths. The food also came out super quick so you could probably be in and out in less than 30 min. Atmosphere: The cozy decor and warm lighting made it feel like the sun was going down and I was making a quick stop for dinner after a long day. The booths were also nice and spacious. read more

This has been one of my favorite dining experiences in Boston since moving here! From the moment I stepped in the door, I was met with the kindest and most accommodating service ever. The hostess gave me choice of any seating available, and even informed me of the benefits of each in order to make my decision. Throughout in the evening, our waitress was quick to fill our waters, bring us our food, and provide anything else we requested. On top of this, they packaged our leftovers for us. Overall the night was made simple and easy all thanks to the wonderful staff! As for the ambiance, the traditional decor was so cute bringing a calming modern vibe that highlights the private experiencing of dining out with your friends or family. They have dynamic seating including a bar and curtained off booths. It's such a fun and aesthetic spot to eat! Now, I can't stop without mentioning the food itself! This is by far one of my favorite ramen spots in all of Boston! The broth is creamy and deep with a rich umami flavor that is perfectly accompanied by the springy texture and eggy taste of the noodles. They grab hold of the soup base so well, allowing for all the delicious flavors to reach your mouth in one bite. Went here right after it opened up, but I never wrote a review. I remember really liking it though, so I decided to order some delivery from here via UberEats. So. Glad. I. Did!!! I got the Pork Tonkatsu Omurice and the Salt & Pepper Crispy Corn. Both were really good and the presentation was to die for. I love that the pork dish came with a free Thai iced tea. Such a nice little treat that went well with the curry. It was also nice how everything was so nicely packaged. The corn dish was a little underwhelming. I was hoping it'd actually be crispy and a little more salty, but it was kind of mushy instead. I enjoyed it, but I don't think I'd order it again. Sweet spot, very nice decor and the individual booth "rooms" was a hit for us. Ordering is streamlined with a concierge button to price when you need something, ready to order, or to pay and a staff member will arrive shortly. We decided to go with the omurice (regular with Demi glace sauce and tonkatsu with curry sauce). I personally wasn't a fan of the dishes in general but could just be my preference. The curry style was definitely better IMO, the Demi glacé got to a point where I just didn't want to taste it anymore if that makes sense, maybe needed something to cut the flavor for me. The portion was large we def should have shared just one omelette rice order! Presentation was wonderful, the cut, the spread, the eggs were the show! We started off with popcorn chicken, flavor was good, this style popcorn chicken was definitely chewy style, i prefer Taiwanese crispy style personally with less chew but still good start. Tokayaki typically isn't my favorite because a lot of places that do it it's just mushy. This place, i enjoyed this dish, hot came out flaky and had texture to it. On a Sunday lunch I decided to try out Kyuramen, enticed by the prospect of omurice. At noon, I arrived to a quiet venue, with a few tables seated. Naturally, I received seating immediately. The interior decor, full of light wood notes and a facade resembling old Japanese wood buildings, creates a fitting ambiance. Of note are the quasi-private booths that come equipped with wifi details and a summon server button like those in KBBQ restaurants. I ordered for myself the Pork Tonktasu Omurice combo ($24.99), with demi glace sauce and lemonlade. I didn't really want a drink, but it was bundled in the combo. The picture on the menu belied its size. I fully expected to get ripped off since I rarely see omurice in menus around here, but I received a giant rice pilaf and gooey omelette. The waitress cut the omelet in front of me to reveal the aesthetic pyroclatic omelet flow. If only I had remembered to record it! The waitress also brought the omurice, demi glace, and tontaksu in a nice wooden tray. I wish she gave me the whole tray instead of individually moving everything from it to the table. The tonktasu itself, sized as an appetizer or add-on, while decent, ended up eclipsed by the fluffy, savory, and addictive omurice. I also tried the okonomiyaki ($9.99) and popcorn chicken ($8.99). The okonomiyaki, Osaka style, was a large savory pancake, a bit gooey inside, and topped with copious amounts of fish flakes. The popcorn chicken proved forgettable. The pieces were small and nugget-y and the coating lacked the bold flavors of obscene basil and 5 spice. Then again, it's a Japanese place making a Taiwanese snack. Maybe stick to karaage here. Overall, I would definitely return for the aesthetic and omurice. I wish I could order it without a drink, and next time I think I don't even need the tonkatsu add-on based on volume of food. Pretty good ramen joint. Service was good and seating was pretty comfortable. We ordered the takoyaki, yinyang bowl, and A1 combo. The A1 combo and yinyang bowl came first. The portions were very fair and everything was pretty tasty, more than enough to satisfy a craving. The only thing I will say is I wish the egg was a bit more jammy, as these were a cooked longer than preferable. No runniness or jamminess at all. Still, I was content with the flavors of the bowls, and the yinyang provides a cool experience of trying 2 ramens in 1. Takoyaki came a bit after the ramens. They were good, though admittedly a bit too much bonito flakes. Not too much issue though, it's real easy to just push them off the takoyaki themselves. Lastly was the matcha pudding w/ red bean. It was yummy, though it was pretty solid texture. Reminded me of a jello more than pudding. Still, I was happy with it. I could recommend this place to anyone easily. We figured this would be the best way to decide which we liked best and it also gave a discount instead of ordering all the options separately. We also ordered shrimp tempura. I really wanted to try the Honeycomb Platter which was not available at the time of my visit. No matter, that didn't negate that they have plenty of other options. Saving that for next time! For our meals, we ordered a Supreme Combo A that came with Tonkotsu Shouyu Ramen (+ extra noodles not included), a Bao Bun, Matcha Pudding with Red Bean and Thai Iced Tea. Who doesn't love a good deal?! Also ordered Pork Tonkatsu Omu Rice with Curry Sauce plus a lemonade. I especially loved the cucumber skewers and scallops, the ones I got to try anyways. I also had to get the curry sauce with the omu rice since it's most popular. They cut the omelet for me and glazed it over with the sauce. The tonkotsu was served on the side. All that left me stuffed! I also had their lemonade that I can't get off my head. There's definitely some cucumbers infused in there because it's so refreshing. We took one to go. Lastly, finishing up with desserts Japanese cherry blossom jelly, matcha pudding with red bean (came with combo), and matcha tiramisu. Food arrived hot and a couple dishes came as soon as we ordered, I suppose these were the more popular dishes like the omurice. I enjoyed how it was presented where they cut the egg ball on top of the rice and then add the gravy. The dish was a fun one time order. The chicken bao was nice but could've used more flavor. The baby scallop skewer was way too chewy. Coming to my favorites of our lunch - the agedashi tofu, Thai iced milk tea, and the chicken skewers. Quirky spin on the agedashi tofu which is usually a soup. In this case it's a dry app with a sauce to dunk the tofu into. Very tasty though. Chicken skewers were very flavorful. Thai iced tea rounded up the meal. Ambiance is bright and well maintained. I wish we had gotten one of those private seating areas but we were seated in the main restaurant area instead. The best part of this new ramen spot is the ambiance. They have very fun and interactive seating. I really enjoyed sitting in the booths because it has the curtains for privacy. I got the omurice and I enjoyed the presentation - they cut open the omelette and poured the curry sauce over it. They do ask if you want this done first which I appreciate. The omurice was huge and cooked perfectly just like how you see it online. The curry sauce is what really pulls it all together, a little bit sweet and savoury. The fried chicken karage was okay, it was kind of bland. The pork belly bao was good. The pork belly was juicy but kind of lacked flavor. I love the interior of the place, it really makes me feel like I'm in Japan. And so cool how they have private booths and this cute matcha whisk architecture inside as well. For the food, I absolutely loved it. The spicy tonkatsu was so savory and I kept wanting to drink the broth. This is not my first time dining at Kyuramen (I have been to NY and Chicago), and this location offered more items on the menu, but I was disappointed that the Honeycomb Platter was unavailable. We ordered Yinyang bowl, lobster & chashu salad ball, salt & pepper crispy corn, and yakitori platter. Yingyang Bowl - It's nice to try two ramen flavors, but the soup was watery that day. Yakitori Platter (5 Skewers) (Chicken Thigh w. Leek, Beef Skirt, Pork Belly, Baby Scallop, and Zucchini): The scallop was incredibly flavorful. It was not overly cooked and had an umami flavor. The meat is nothing special; you can taste it in any other Japanese BBQ place with the same seasoning. Salt & Pepper Crispy Corn - The flavor does not taste strongly like salt and pepper, and the fried batter does not wrap around each corn. Lobster and chashu Salad Ball--This is my favorite appetizer. It was nicely presented. The outside is crispy, but it will get soft if you wait too long. The inside is burst with chashu, which is more flavorful than the chashu in the ramen. read more

Food: the ramen is good. Nice broth and firm-ish noodles, hits the spot for a ramen craving. Not mind-blowing but great for a chain, and I say that because I just have some standards for a good ramen. Love the split bowl so you can have 2 different flavors in 1 meal. Appetizers are solid, including the takoyaki and karaage. When did these things get so expensive though? Inflation at it again! Service: good service. No complaints. The job gets done well. Ambiance: it's a chill place. With a small group you'll sit at the regular tables most likely but with a bigger group, maybe 5, you can sit at their fancier tables or rooms. Food 4/5 Service 5/5 Ambiance 4/5 Ramen was delicious with nice chewy noodles and huge chunks of pork belly (in my order). Broth was so flavorful but not overly salty so I could actually enjoy all of it without swelling up like a balloon! The popcorn chicken was excellent - crispy and very lightly breaded on the outside and very juicy on the inside. The 1 pt knock is for a smashed cucumber salad that was mediocre (mostly because my parents made a killer one at home as a kid) and I'm not sure $19/bowl of ramen was truly justified but everything was tasty. Service was incredibly friendly and efficient and the space was clean and nicely lit. Was mostly sad that we weren't able to sit in a hexagonal teepee thingy (that looked like was reserved for larger groups) and ended up very close next to a table of strangers, so not really able to have any privacy. read more

I came in very excited because this is the only place in Boston that I knew of that serves omurice. The skewers and purple sweet potato fries did not disappoint. The wait for the rice was a bit longer. The tonkatsu was crispy, but the rice was not as hot as I expected. The flavor was pretty good. The restaurant set up was really cute. Wow. No liquor license yet, but the best curry ramen I've had in North America. It's close to the taste I experienced in Tokyo (don't remember the name, but Michelin listed). Service was swift and friendly. The atmosphere is young and busy. Maybe not ideal for a private discussion, but it has a positive vibe. When you go there, remember to check in on the Yelp app!
