I especially appreciated that the noodle and mushroom dishes could be made non-spicy, which was a great option for those who prefer milder flavors. The only item I wouldn't recommend is the pork bao buns. Unfortunately, the pork filling was cold and a bit dry. The service was also a highlight. Ordering is done through a QR code, making it easy to browse the menu and add dishes whenever you want without having to flag down a server. I came to eat dumplings with friends from Sichuan, Guangxi, Hunan, Kazakhstan, and Turkey. It was so spicy! As a Cantonese, I was ready to die for my friends. Bobo Chicken in Green Pepper Oil藤味缽缽雞: The best dish of the meal. The broth was very refreshing, mainly savory, umami, and fragrant, with only a slight numbing spiciness. It was also served cool, making it very appetizing. The chicken was thick and tender, and the other vegetables were fresh and flavorful. Mouthwatering Chicken in Chili Sauce口水雞: The only dish I ordered, and it's my favorite among Sichuan dishes. Very satisfying. The chicken was tender, and the chili oil was fragrant but not spicy. Steamed Pork Soup Dumplings with Crab Meat蟹粉小籠包, Steamed Pork Soup Dumplings豬肉小籠包: Like Fuchunju富春居, the soup dumplings had a slightly dry and hard skin, not as good as Zoe's風味亭. However, the soup was rich, the filling was tender, and the seasoning was umami, so it was still very good. It even came with ginger slices, which was a thoughtful touch! Pork Dumplings in Chengdu Zhong Sauce鍾水餃: I'd forgotten the Zhong Dumplings I had in Chengdu ten years ago, but I really liked these. The rich, sweet aroma of brown sugar was incredibly appealing. Shanghai Vegetable and Pork Wonton Soup上海菜肉大餛飩: The broth was light and flavorful, the meat filling firm and plump, with a satisfyingly coarse texture and a rich meaty aroma. A pleasant surprise. Boston Soup Dumplings is located in Allston, right next to the BonChon. There was no wait for a table and ordering was rather easy! There's a QR Code at each table & it brings you to their ChowBus menu link, where you can order directly from the link and kitchen starts prepping the food once you put your order in. We decided to try two dishes: -crab meat & pork xiao long bao/soup dumplings -green chili oil wontons The chili oil wontons were yummy, and my favorite of the two dishes we ordered. Flavorful and wontons tasted fresh. The soup dumplings were just all right. They don't skimp on the filling, however, because they give more filling compared to most other places, of course their XLB skin is made thicker to prevent leaking. Wasn't a fan of the thick dumpling skin. Overall, the place is not bad, but I enjoyed other spots around more... I felt that our meal here was very mediocre. Excellent soup dumplings, perfect for a blisteringly cold night! We tried to get into Mountain House and was quoted a 1.5 hour wait; walked a few steps over to BSD and only had to wait 10 minutes. Just a note - we came at around 7pm and the place was jam-packed with people waiting by the door. By 7:30, we were only a few tables left after the dinner bum-rush had cleared. So next time I'm in the mood for dumplings, I'd definitely come near the later end. Service was quick but friendly. You order by scanning a QR code. I liked how you can modify the spice level of every dish and request, for instance, no scallions or extra. Everything comes out to the table freshly prepared. We ordered: 1. Crunchy garlic cucumbers: This made my breath stink to high heaven for the rest of the night but for anyone who loves garlic, this is for you. 2. Wood ear mushrooms: I love the texture of wood-ear but the sauce they were doused in was a bit too vinegary and spicy. One of the few dishes we didn't lick clean. 3. The Wuhan dry-heat noodles and the Beijing soy bean noodles. Loved both of these, would definitely get again. The Beijing noodles had a great nutty dark sauce on the bottom, but the bowl was a little too small for mixing. 4. The pork and crab/pork dumplings. Not the best iterations I've consumed but pretty good. The wrapper was a little thick for my taste but the broth was very tasty and it was nicely structured so you could eat it without scalding your tongue. Also, for anyone looking for solo dining, there's a row of stools along the window where you can slurp your dumplings in piece. I was drawn in by the Roast Duck Noodle Soup - when I saw it, I knew that would be dinner for the night! Walking into Boston Soup Dumplings on Friday night, the restaurant was pretty full. The whole interior is made up of tables for seating. You have to order using a QR code, which probably makes the food come out faster. Of course I ordered the soup but I was slightly disappointed. The broth didn't have that much flavor and the duck was mostly bone. To be fair, it did mention on the menu that the broth wasn't spicy. I noted that and added some chili oil which definitely kicked it up a notch. The meat that was on the duck was beautifully seasoned - downright delicious! But there was so little of it, I found myself searching through the bone/skin/fat pieces trying to find more meat. Not sure if it was just my bowl or that's the way its served. This place is extremely popular so I'm glad that they take reservations. I came here in a group of 5 for lunch on a weekend. We ordered 6 dishes using the QR code at the table, and all the dishes came out pretty quickly. The wood ear mushroom salad ($9) was quite simple: it came with a few pieces of cilantro but mostly featured soft wood ear with a vinegar-based sauce. We got the steamed pork soup dumplings ($14) and the pork and crab soup dumplings ($16). If you plan to get soup dumplings I recommend getting the original soup dumplings because I didn't really taste a lot of crab in the soup dumplings with crab. Overall I thought the soup dumplings were decent. They were packed with meat and quite soupy inside. The meat was a little too sweet for my liking and I felt that the dumpling skin was too tacky/sticky, but for soup dumplings in Boston these are probably the best. I really liked the Chengdu cold noodles ($12) which came in a garlicky, peanut-based sauce. The noodles were thick, chewy, and clung to the sauces well. The Wuhan hot-dry noodles with sesame paste ($12) were a similar concept to the Chengdu cold noodles but I didn't like them as much. Maybe they weren't garlicky enough? We also got the beef noodles ($17) which had a really beefy, umami broth. Unfortunately the noodles came with a very tiny portion of beef. While ordering you can choose between original (mild) spicy, more spicy, or no spice. We got original spicy for all the dishes and they basically weren't spicy at all so I would recommend getting the dishes more spicy if you are looking for spice. The chili oil at the table didn't pack much spice or flavor. This is one of the better Chinese restaurants I've been to in the Allston area. read more

Came here on a Saturday evening for dinner and the place wasn't too busy so we luckily got a swat quickly. The inside felt relatively clean and welll lit, although the table was a bit sticky so it was a little less than ideal. The menu had a good mix of dumplings, wonton, and then noodle dishes. A quick scan around showed a majority of people getting noodle dishes so we got some as well which weren't too had as well as some dumplings to share. The food came out staggered so one of us got our entree a lit quicker than the other. The dumplings and wontons were okay - decent quality, but very overpriced in my opinion. The noodles were all right - not a bad portion size and I got the black bean mix one and was advised the sauce was very salty so to add it sparingly. The advice was helpful to not overload on flavor as yeah, it was a bit saltier than what I'm used to. If you know this area of Brighton, parking is scarce so be prepared to walk a distance if you are lucky enough to find parking. We were fortunate to grab street parking steps away from the restaurant. The restaurant interior of the restaurant is bright and modern, very minimalist in decor. The staff politely greeted my family and seated us promptly. We came on a weekday night around dinner time and there were about three other parties seated before us. There are QR codes on the table for east ordering. You can order straight from your phone and the dishes are promptly brought out. I believe we received all of our items within 15 minutes, with the soup dumplings coming out last. The highlight of the menu is definitely the pork and crab soup dumplings. The most amazing soup dumplings I have tried! The skin on the outside is thin as it s should be and there is plenty of delicious broth while the meatball inside tasted fluffy as a cloud. The regular sized spoons were way too small, so I suggest using the noodle soup spoon that comes with noodle dishes or ask for larger spoons. The regular pork soup dumplings were delicious too but the crab and pork ones were my favorite. Add a little vinegar soy sauce and ginger and perfection! The slices of beef and ox tongue in chili oil is delicious as well if you are into organ meats and can handle chili oil and the numbing taste of peppercorn. The organ meats include sliced honeycomb tripe, beef shank, and ox tongue. I would order this again. My husband ordered the roasted duck noodle soup while I ordered the minced pork noodle soup. His broth was light in flavor while my broth was richer and heavier with oil. The noodle portion in my noodle soup was generous, more than I could eat. I would try something else next time though. The iced jelly dessert came out way too soon and I would have liked it served chilled. I wished it was just a tad sweeter. It is less sweet than expected. Not all a bad thing. I recommend ordering it toward the end of your meal since everything comes out all at once when you submit your order. Two unique drinks worth trying is the plum drink and the yogurt drink. We had braised beef noodle soup which hits the mark, soup dumplings that are juicy and big, and sichuan pepper meat sauce noodles which is a dry noodle dish in the meat sauce. In my experience, a name like "Boston Soup Dumplings" either means the food will be super authentic or super whitewashed - fortunately, I am happy to report that in this case it is the former! However, I will note that the name is still a bit of a misnomer, because only 2 of the many items on their menus are, in fact, the eponymous soup dumplings. My friend and I came for lunch on a Friday - it was a bit busy but fortunately there were still a few tables open for us. The interior is very cleanly minimalist, and one random feature my friend and I really liked was the aesthetic of the tableware, both in colour and consistency. We started with an order of the beef noodle soup - this was perhaps the best beef noodle soup I have had in Boston yet (I say 'perhaps' to give myself some wiggle room, but I have pondered for a few days and I cannot think of anything better so far). The soup was rich and filling, the noodles perfectly cooked, and the pieces of beef/tendon were tender, juicy, and practically dripping with flavour. The biggest issue was that the proportion of soup to noodle was very off, and by the end of the dish it felt like we were eating dry noodles or dipping noodles or something. Next we had an order of the pork xiaolongbao, which was also fantastic. The skins were thin and evidently carefully wrapped, and the fillings were really yummy - fresh, with a generous and delicious amount of soup in each. Finally, we had the Sichuan pepper meat sauce noodles. I really liked the contrast in terms of spiciness between this and our other dishes. The noodles were chewy and tasty, and the meat was cooked and flavoured very nicely. The cherry on top was how wonderful the prices were for this - it came out to $50 for the two of us (and we both took home a bit of leftovers to snack on later). Especially ~in today's economy~ I think this is such great value with a meal as filling and satisfying as this. Alright. I've now eaten here 5 times. And each time I'm so happy. Although this place has good noodles, it has EXCELLENT dumplings. My favorites are both kinds of soup dumpling, the Chengdu style pork dumplings (comes w an addictive sweetish chili sauce), & the green pepper oil wontons (aka red oil wontons at most other places). Also very good choices are the steamed shrimp dumplings (a dim sum fave, and very juicy and tender here), the Shanghai wonton soup (so clean and flavorful), and the duck soup (haven't tried all the noodle soups yet because this one is so good we can't help ourselves from ordering it every time!). This has become a regular restaurant in our rotation and I find myself craving items from their menu all the time. The service is always good and fast and I like the ability to order quickly from the QR codes without having to log into Toast. A 5 star Boston Chinese restaurant, definitely. read more

I've been coming here since 2023. Always met with a warm welcome! I especially love ordering the Wuhan hot-dry noodles with sesame paste. It's a simple, but delicious noodle dish consisting of carrots, green onions, chili oil, and what I believe to be pickled green beans? The sauce is nutty and rich, kinda reminds me of Vietnamese peanut sauce. The sauce is at the bottom, so you have to mix it up to get it spread evenly. I stopped by Boston Soup Dumplings on Brighton Ave for dinner recently. This place used to be Blue Asia Cafe. The dining area is very cozy with tables and also seating along the front window. The place was very busy on a Saturday night with short waits to be seated. I was seated along the front window, where most single diners are seated. The menu offers a variety of soup dumplings, dumplings, noodle soups, noodle & rice dishes, Chinese appetizers and dessert. The prices are moderate. I ordered the Steamed Pork Dumplings (8) in Chengdu sauce ($13 plus tax) and the Braised Beef Noodle Soup ($15 plus tax). The soup came out quickly which was served with firm noodles in a very salty beef broth (not very hot) with greens and pieces of beef, but mostly chewy fat. The steamed pork dumplings came out next which were small and filled with ground pork and cabbage in a spicy sauce with chili and sesame seeds.
