I've been to some of the big-name clothing stores in Chicago and New York but their biggest size of anything fits a man half my size. Once I moved, going home came a very big deal to me and embraced Michigan, and more importantly, Kalamazoo became so much of a bigger deal to me. Each time I have been home since 2007, I have stopped into The Spirit of Kalamazoo to check out what new items they may have that I feel I "need." I have gotten things over the years that now I wished I got two of, specially the "Just Another Animal in the Zoo" cup that I bought in pink, but broke and I cannot find anywhere online to replace. The store has lots of odds and end art pieces from local artist, some of which I pick up as I go for when I can make an amazing room filled with things from home and sports, especially since I am a die hard Michigan sports fan. The staff are always friendly and helpful but also let you shop without hovering over you. I am very glad that I can help this local business each time I am home, as it has become part of my journey now.

I adore the store layout and just about every stitch of clothing inside -- although I did experience a bit of sticker shock when I glanced at price tags. My eye gravitated to a luxuriously soft light sweater-cape in a pale pink with bright pink polka dots that I was hoping might be on sale since it's a bit too warm for the current season. No such luck ... it was almost $300. Sigh ... I moved on. Found the cutest little fuchsia and orange sundress. D'oh ... nearly $300 again. I have a hard time parting with that much money for clothing that only gets a few months use since it's only hot in Michigan for a few months of the year. If I lived in Florida, it would absolutely be worth the splurge. There are quite a few more budget-friendly items at Tulips, including one new clothing line that's closer to the $50 mark, but this season's line from them wasn't in the vibrant colors that made the rest of Tulip's apparel appeal so much. They also have some wonderful travel-friendly, wrinkle free clothes that I'll be sure to check out next time I'm planning to go on vacation. Jewelry, too, is very affordable and bright and pizzazy ... I posted a bunch of pictures on yelp. This would be a great spot to stop for gifts as well as they had gorgeous beach blankets in vibrant patterns (flamingos, anchors, peacock feathers and other themes), Derby hats and other fun tchotchkes. Tulips is a now a must-stop spot for me when I'm in the Oakwood Plaza neck of the woods. What a great little area to shop local! I highly recommend wandering the whole area and popping in to all the great local spots.

From the very beginning her attitude indicated she didn't want to help my mother order her diabetic shoes. She tried to say my mother didn't remember what she was told by Mike last year when she ordered her shoes. My mother is elderly, not stupid. Seeing my mother upset infuriates me. The woman stopped helping my mother without saying a word. She started helping a woman whose business she wanted. My mother finally left, and she'll never return, which I suspect is what the associates at this store want. May you all have the day you deserve.
