These birds are adorable, but they are threatened by habitat loss. There is a volunteer who regularly checks for Piping Plovers during migration, and she looks for bands that reveal the path of the bird's migratory flight. It's important that we have places for these birds to forage, and I hope the city continues to protect this beach for that use. The bathrooms were a welcome amenity. I had problems paying the parking fee, it was a complicated process. There were about 10 peafowl (peacocks) that roamed the park, a remaining vestige of when this was a zoo. There were many wild birds throughout the park.

The service is always so pleasant. He was very patient with me while I struggled to book online. There site is super easy to navigate, I'm just not tech-savvy. When we did go out on our tour, we were given the greatest captain/instructor. Captain Sasha was so sweet and funny and knowledgeable. It was my first time snorkeling and he walked me through everything and made it all so simple. He was kind enough to take a ton of wonderful photos of my friend and me while we snorkeled. He let us take our time and enjoy ourselves and was such a pleasure. He even gave us a tour of the area which I know he did not have to do. We checked in, left an ID, signed their waiver, and then we were off to get life vests and paddles/kayaks. They also rent bikes and paddle boards. (We stuck with kayaking for the day.) the weather was gorgeous and the water and scenery beautiful once we got out. I would recommend taking lunch and picnicking on their many tables or surrounding grass area. Another tip, show your reservation for kayaking to the guard/park entrance official that you booked a trip with VKOC and they will waive the $8 park fee. And then enjoy the beaches and scenery.
