Being our first time in Elkton, our friends told us to stop my the little soda bar in town for dinner. When we walked in, it was like stepping into a time warp back to the 50's. The place is so beautifully done with amazing vibes of the 50's with old time coke advertisements, an old school soda jar fountain, and the southern hospitality that brings a smile to my face. The staff were so sweet and friendly and made us feel like family. The food, WONDERFUL! Burger was cooked perfectly and super flavorful and my daughter loved her chili cheese dog. You know the chef knows what's up when they butterfly the hotdog to get it extra crispy on the griddle. The ice cream was amazing and we walked out there full and happy! Last night was a return to L&R we go hear often because it's my granddaughter's favorite. She love the starter or fried pickles which comes as a generous portion. Drinks came promptly to our table wife had half sweet and half unsweetened tea, my granddaughter had chocolate milk and I ordered water. Entrees were chicken tender and fries kids meal, wife had the club with fries and I ordered the Hot honey chicken. Granddaughter enjoyed her chicken and fries but she really came for the ice cream (Superman). My wife's club she said was really great except for how big it was ( she can't unlock her jaw). My hot honey chicken sandwich was fantastic right amount of heat and the run off hot honey went really well with my sweet potatoes fries. When coming through Elkton's public square, it could be hard to miss L&R Soda Bar as the pharmacy connected to it is much more visible, Making this place a much better gem once you walk in listening to the old style music and seeing just how lively it is. Greeted and seated by friendly servers while basking in the 50s era ads all over the wall, you get handed a menu to see what they have in store for your appetite. I decided to start with the Bang Bang Shrimp which stood out compared to the usual Fried Green Tomatos (Had those before from here, they are pretty bomb) and Chilli Cheese fries. Along with that i ordered the Philly Cheese Steak, which is the daily special for Thursday, as it seemed to fit the visit. While waiting for the food i was checked upon quite frequently dispite there only being a single server serving a after school rush, which i must applude to the dedication and speed compare to most other places i have visited. The Bang Bang shrimp then come up first as it is classified as a appetizer, but i must say, it can be a whole meal woth the serving size they give you. It had a bit of a kick of sweet pepper and tangy sauce as the breaded Shrimp was cooked to perfection. The dish truely lived up to the name of "Bang Bang Shrimp" As you get a pop from the shirmp and a bang from the sauce it is smothered in. After finishing the appetizer, the main course came up, opened faced and ready to down. The Philly Cheese Steak itself was on a fluffy hogie bun which worked well with the cheese and meat, the spices not too much but not bland as it was a good mix for the taste of a Philly. The onion rings itself were hard, but not too hard to not be enjoyable. I myself would have wished i opt for a different side rather then the free upgrade to the rings as they are usually an upcharge according to the server. Had a birthday in our office so I suggested L&R. We drive 25 minutes to eat here and it did not disappoint! Food is delicious and service was perfect as usual! Elizabeth is a super kind and friendly waitress. Love when some of the kitchen staff come out too! Prices are so affordable for the quantity of food! L&R Soda Bar is located on the roundabout in Elkton. I get lost going straight, so for me it was difficult to find. The name on the sign doesn't stand out to make you know exactly where it is, and I ended up going around the roundabout quite a few times. The inside of the soda bar takes you back to childhood and going to buy root beer floats with your grandaddy, at least that's how I felt. People were sitting at the bar in front of amazing looking banana splits, and homemade shakes. However, I came with an appetite, and my mother on this day. We decided to eat the hamburger steak with cheese. I had a side of cheese fries, and my mom had beans with corn bread. It was worth our drive. Our server never gave her name, but she was one of the most welcoming, down home people I've ever met. I recommend trying the L&R! read more

L&R Soda Bar is a favorite for some people in Elkton. I have been there twice. Once was to kill the time in which I just ordered a hotdog which was alright. It was a plain simple hotdog. However, I decided the other day that my wife and myself would go there for a date. So we dressed up and went. While the ice cream selection and desserts appear to be top notch with their looks as well as the old-timey feel of the restaurant, the food itself was not the good. While the pricing was fairly adequate and as I said many of the desserts looked amazing our actual meal was not so. I had wanted to get tomato soup and grilled cheese, but they did not offer tomato soup so I asked if I could just get the grilled cheese with a fried egg in the middle if it would not be too difficult. My waitress told me that eggs on burgers is quite a commonplace thing and that they could do that. I already knew that its common for eggs to be on burgers but that's beside the point. Eventually my grilled cheese was brought to me, and it was more of a egg sandwich. Their was only cheese on one side of bread, and the other side had no butter, etc. My wife got a southwestern chicken sandwich and some chili cheese fries. Their was nothing southwestern about the sandwich and the chili tasted very poor and while I am not for certain I am almost sure it comes out of a can. While I can say that I did enjoy this date due to the conversation, and the ice cream soda, and later on the vanilla milkshake I had, I would not recommend coming here for a full course meal. The atmosphere and the location is appealing along with the prices so all in all I would give it three out of five stars. read more

The wait time is so terrible, there were 5 other people here when my group of 4 was seated and waiting for our food for over an hour. Our waitress was brand spanking new so she wasn't able to answer our questions but quickly got someone who could. She was super sweet! Food- unfortunately you're looking at an extremely, tough, chewy overlooked burger. Being as this was our entire reasons for our visit, we were sad. I thought maybe it was only mine but a quick look around the tables proved otherwise. We ordered chicken tenders and fries, kids version you get 1, yes ONE chicken tender ( I think their kids menu is for kids under 4...) so we got him the large regular portion which is 2 tenders and fries for $5.99. He enjoyed them and so did I The coleslaw is amazing! Definitely get that! Ice cream- I guess I had high expectations, I was thinking they made their ice cream, but it's just the buckets like Baskin Robins. Flavored like rainbow sherbet, mint chocolate chip, Oreo etc. despite my disappointment my son and I split a banana split. It was average at best. For $4.99 go to Walmart buy the stuff and make your own.
