Beulah location is the best out of all three. Fantastic workers. Fresh food. Great selection if u get there early enough. Got a 2 lb container today of the tuna salad and brought it back to our vacation home for lunch time sandwiches. Everyone loved it. Perfect amount of mayo (not swimming in it), onions, etc. We had breakfast sandwiches, bagels, and cinnamon rolls to go also. All fab! read more

The honey wheat with cherry cream cheese, chorizo egg & pepper jack on sesame seed & the Damascus sandwich are all my favorite recommendations. Must try when on Crystal lake! Eating at one of the L'Chayim restaurants is always a highlight of our summer visit to this part of Michigan. The food is excellent - we've tried lots of their sandwiches and bagels and love it all. We usually pack up a lunch for the flight home, but foolishly we didn't this year not knowing we'd spend 24 hours trying to get home. Hard to believe we find better deli here than we do in the San Francisco Bay Area, but it's true. read more

Yum!! Cool little deli in small town Beulah! This is a great spot for a sandwich. They were pretty busy around lunch time but were cranking out the sandwiches fast! I had the Palestine sandwich which tasted fresh! They put lot of meat on it and it was very tasty. I would love to try something else next time. They have a small amount of seating inside and they have a drink cooler (with some olipop flavors (!!) among other drink options) and several different chip options for your side. It looks like they also serve plenty of bagel options but everything was pretty much gone by the time we got there which is fine because that's not what we were there for! read more

Perhaps you've seen those medieval paintings of animals where it's obvious that the artist has never laid eyes on the animal, and merely imagined what it looked like based on a written description. This sandwich shop is the culinary equivalent. There is nothing about this establishment that resembles a Jewish deli (except the unfriendly service- that part veers authentic). The Reubens we ordered had thick, flabby. poorly sliced slabs of corned beef on ice cold crumbly bread and were NOT toasted on the griddle. You can look up " Reuben sandwich" in Wikipedia and figure out how to make one- no excuses. The gyro sandwich had about 4 tablespoons of crunchy, overcooked chicken and came with a side order of snark from the cashier who corrected my pronunciation. Dude, I'm a New Yorker and not Greek. Where I'm from unless you're pretentious or a trained linguist it rhymes with hi-ho. The other sandwiches were equally disappointing and the names they have given them are seriously tone deaf. "The Palestine"?? "The Golan Heights"? Just embarrassing. If you enjoy a really good Jewish deli do not go here under any circumstances. If you think this IS a Jewish deli, it is most certainly not, but do yourself a favor and find one in a big city near you. They are usually better and more authentic when they are owned and run by actual Jews, BTW. read more

Julie and her family at L'Chayim were an absolute joy to work with from our very first meeting all the way through our rehearsal dinner. They took the time to understand exactly what we were looking for and recommended the perfect menu -- a chicken shawarma bar and prime rib sliders (YUM!). On the night of, they delivered not only incredible food but also outstanding service, handling everything from setup to bartending with ease and professionalism. Their warm presence made the evening feel even more special, and our guests couldn't stop raving about the food. Setting is nice, food it good, service is speedy, it was late in the season so not may customers but....no one ever smiles. Ever. They are NOT friendly. Went there twice this trip. It's kind of sad. Woman at register who looked like she might be a manager counting money from the drawer never even looked up as I stood there waiting to be checked out. I was there before she got there and she totally ignored me. She walked away, came back, then walked away again. Never said hello, I'll be with you in a minute, nothing. Girls making sandwiches not using gloves. Very long hair hanging down too. I left feeling like I was just a dumb tourist. I can't imagine going back unless it is to pick up some pre-packaged bagels. Oh so many good things to order here. My son loves the bagels. Their matzo ball soup will heal all that ails you, especially on a cold day. I love their pastrami and roast beef. Food is good. Staff, including the owner is not friendly. Been coming there multiple times each summer with friends. He talks to them and never even recognized my presence as his customer. My Buddy likes the place and been there weekly throughout the summers for over 10 years. Never even a hello! Bring anywhere from one to five friends. We enjoy our visit but not the staff coolness. I've been here a couple times. They make their own bagels so that is awesome. You can see the open kitchen. I stopped in to get some bagels and cream cheese to take home. Love the cheddar bagel. The half sandwich was pretty big and very good. They are happy to customize. I look forward to trying a cake in the future. 2016 - I always stop here when I am in town. We were on the early side for lunch and our wait was reasonable. I can see how if they were very busy wait times would be extended due to the customized nature of each order. I had one of the veggie specials (Golda Meir), which included artichoke hearts and is served on a toasted bagel. I couldn't really taste the Stilton in it, but it was delicious. Unfortunately, the sandwiches are somewhat boring. They lack flavor and interest. The turkey Ruben has nice turkey, but is otherwise tasteless. Grilling the sandwiches might help. Sauces also need updating. read more

As far as delis go in this area, this is your best, and maybe only, choice and it's a big step up from the nearby chain sandwich places. My husband thought the "Lebanon" sandwich was fantastic. And I appreciate that they had so many vegetarian options for such a small place. I had the Jerusalem which features artichokes. There's another one of these in Frankfort so I think they've cornered the market on fresh bagels for 20 miles. My tip is to take your order to go and sit around the corner at the picnic benches in front of the beach. Terrific view. The service is a little weird... the two poor young girls could really have used help from mom or dad.. we waited 25 minutes for the two sandwiches but the girls were going as fast as they could. There were seemingly three older adults working but not nearly as hard. ( or in any way to speed up the customer era wait time) So if you're in a hurry, call ahead to order or skip it. read more

1st time patron there. Stopped in for breakfast. The coffee tasted good and was fresh. Had an "everything" bagel with Canadian Bacon and egg. It was very good I thought. As much as I tried, I could not resist trying one of their cinnamon rolls. It was the star of the show. The service was what you would expect in a deli, and the place was clean. The family and I were vacationing in the Lake Leelanau area and after feeling underwhelmed from having a bagel and lox in Traverse City, we decided to venture out in search of folks who know how to satisfy our cravings for a good ass bagel. 24 miles later we arrived in Beulah and found our haven. We stopped into this joint as a crew of 8 and put in our order with a tattooed gal who scored points for having a wrist tattoo of a pizza slice. While she didn't bowl us over with customer service, we appreciated her focus on our order and her quick process. I personally ordered a salt bagel with cream cheese and lox... literally the BEST salt bagel I've had in a long ass time. Thank you. My group ordered a variety of things and each were pleased. If I could give this place 100 stars I would. Absolutely amazed the staff was so friendly my food was delicious they were very accommodating to what I wanted. Such a disappointment. Who serves a Ruben cold? With barely any kraut and the cheese not melts at all. After giving me a difficult time for a free water I noticed a young female employee with braids using a cell phone then going right back to handling food without putting gloves on or washing her hands. Disgusting cell phones are like toilet seats I should have asked to get my sandwich redone but I complained to a manager. It's sunny, hot and we're up-north. Its perfect weather for a lunch by the lake. After taking a short stroll through Beulah, husband and I decided to get some sandwiches from L'chayim to enjoy by the waterfront. We got excited...could it be up-north M.O.T.s? I took a quick peek inside, grabbed a menu and went outside to consult with my guy. The menu boasts a long list of deli sandwiches and other goods. We quickly realized its not kosher M.O.T. but neither are we, so we decided to order a to-go order. Ehhh, color me not impressed. My corned beef was not that great. I was expecting nice Jewish deli style corned beef...it wasn't. I don't know how to exactly describe it, but it wasn't melt-in-your-mouth kind of corned beef. Honestly, it was kinda boring (dry, maybe?), despite the dressing. Husband's sandwich, according to him, was lackluster as well. And the most unimpressive part of it? The price. For what it was and the quality, our 'picnic' lunch by the lake was grossly overpriced and grossly underwhelming. So sad....nothing worse than a lackluster lunch on a lovely summer's day. Sadly, Beulah is not a usual stop for me when I head up north; but I'm sure if I'm in town again, I'll pass this place and keep walking when checking out this town's cute downtown. read more
