Perfect place tucked back from main street for lunch; delicious plat du jour and brick with tuna. Very helpful service in a great ambiance.

One of my favourite places to eat at in Paris! (Visited summer 2010.) This place was recommended by Rick Steves' travel book and my parents and I found it when I was taking them around Europe. The food was amazing! My French is not very great, but luckily the waiters here knew enough English where I could use my Frenglish and get by anyway. :) The waiter that served us was very friendly as well. I asked him what he recommended and he paused a moment and wrote something down on his notepad, saying "I know exactly what you'll order--it'll be a surprise!" Fantastic! Surprises are my favourite. :D Funny enough, I LOVED it! It was a cooked flank steak, incredibly juicy and it came with a salad and a dessert (the waiter also surprised me with his favourite: the berry crumble and it was great!). The steak was nice and pink and came out hot and rested (after you cook red meats, or even chicken, it's good to let the meat rest so the juices can return) and it was perfectly seasoned. The berry crumble was toasty and wonderful--the berries weren't overdone and the crumble was perfectly sweet, and not overly so. The atmosphere was wonderful because L'Ebouillante is nestled in a cosy alley with a view of the river. The light comes in just right in the late afternoon/early evening. I highly recommend asking to be seated outside--it's wonderful! Because it is in Paris and so many travel-writers have reviewed it, there are a good amount of tourists here from all over the world, but don't let that get you down! Love this place! Made a point of stopping in for a light dinner during all three of my visits to Paris over the last 6 years. It's super charming and the location is great... perched on a quaint little street away from traffic. Try to grab a table outside if you can, and if the weather permits. I have a thing for their big, colorful salads. This visit I split the flavorful Greek salad with my sister and enjoyed a pile of fresh baguette slices, as well as some refreshing rose. Perfection. The prices aren't too bad, taking into consideration the quality of food and portion sizes. If you're looking to grab a casual bite, stop at L'Ebouillante. read more

The service was excellent, the food delicious, and the atmosphere nice. The waiter spoke English well and was very understanding of my inability to speak conversant French. I had the special of the day which was a beef bourguignon which was done perfectly. The beef broke apart with a push of the fork and the carrots and potatoes were just right. I had a soup prior which was good, though it was the main dish that shined. My original plan was to have a hot chocolate afterwards (it was cold and rainy outside) but I was stuffed from the main dish. Instead a had a lovely pot of mint tea that was perfect to enjoy after the meal. I will be going back. read more

Outstanding experience. We were greeted promptly by a friendly staff and though my husband speaks passable French, the server was more than happy to use English (without being grumpy about it). We ordered 3 items, which were quick to arrive. The brick with tomato, egg and cheese was particularly delicious, as was the salmon option. The kicker, though, is what happened when our 17 month-old became absolutely belligerent after the food arrived: our server, without question (and though it seems to be not a usual service), took the food, wrapped it in foil, scrounged a bag for us to carry it in, AND offered to process our payment inside so I didn't leave our things unattended outside (husband carried baby down the way so he didn't disturb other diners). Short answer: come for the top-notch crepes, stay/visit again for the outstanding service. P. S.- If our server sees this, thank you. A crappy situation could've been so much worse with the minimum effort expended. You are so appreciated. read more

What a great find! And I don't even get the credit. (My daughter stumbled into this place one day and stopped for coffee. We were following her hunch that the food would be as delectable as the atmosphere is charming.) All true! We were seated upstairs - all a little crowded, but that's part of the charm. This place appears to have a regular clientele of local hipsters who stop by for 'breakfast anytime.' For us, we were looking for lunch at 3:30 in the afternoon, but the most enticing options were on the omelet and crepe menu. I went the crepe route; a variation that they call Le Brick, presumably referring to the fact that the crepe is slightly toasted giving it a delicate crunchy texture as it dissolves on your tongue. Unbelievable! I went for the simple version with cheese, tomato, and ham. We finished the meal with tiramisu. I thought I didn't like tiramisu... I was wrong. Incredibly light and elegantly flavorful. (Parisians categorically do tiramisu better than anything I've EVER had by that name in the States.) I have to say, by the time we added in a few glasses of wine and a round of coffee and tea, the bill was pretty steep, but this is Paris after all. And I would do it all again simply to experience that amazing crepe again. Oh-la-la! read more

One of my favorite spots to eat at in Paris. Affordable and delicious in a city where a decent meal can be really pricy. My friend found this place from Rick Steve's tour guide, and it was the only one from his recommendations throughout various parts of France that we actually liked. The House Hot Chocolate is amazing and I loved the presentation. So is their Tart Tartin, which is like an upside down apple pie, very decadent. My friend had the Brick, which was filling and delicious. Seating can be a bit challenging and since you are in France, a lot of people smoke, which I suppose adds to the "I'm eating in Paris" ambiance. Overall a keeper. If you are in Paris, give this place a try, you won't regret it. This was the only place I went back to after the first meal on the most recent trip to France. read more

Located behind L'Eglise de St. Gervaise-St. Protais on a little walkway/square, this is a friendly place with excellent plain food. We happened on it walking around the neighborhood and were charmed enough to come back. The salads are excellent and filling, and lunch prix (lapin for the main the day I had it fixe was memorable and quitee inexpensive. Friendly, welcoming, there were several families there and the children seemed to enjoy themselves as well. read more

Cute little place on a quiet pedestrian street just off the river in the Marais. Near fancier places but we chose this place as it seemed more casual and was less expensive than nearby 'Julien' (although I'd do back to try there too). The menu is a mix of Tunisian style things (adapted for France I think), salads and egg dishes. It all tasted good but don't expect haute cuisine or traditional French dishes. My friend had the brick (a sort of middle-eastern style crispy pancake made from phyllo pastry) filled with spinach and fromage blanc. Filling and flavourful but not the prettiest of dishes. I had the special of the day which happened to be chicken with seasonal mushrooms. We shared a pear and chocolate tart for dessert which was decent but nothing special. I think the highlight for both of us was the warm apple juice with ginger and honey - delicious and moreish, especially given the depressing turn the weather had taken. They also had a lot of teas and a variety of coffees and other hot drinks on the menu. I'd go back here if I was in the neighbourhood, especially for a drink, but it's not somewhere I'd cross town for. read more

This place is adorable with warm, welcoming staff. My husband and I stopped by for chocolat chaud and the way it was made was amazing! We crave for it now that we are back in the States. We did not get to try anything off the menu but from what we've seen (and smelled) the food looked delicious. We definitely hope to visit this place again. read more

ricky steve's recommended me to eat here. I got a brick with spinach, goat cheese, raisins and hazelnuts. its good. the mushy raisins really added to it. cant find the hazelnuts but did find the fennel. (I have mixed feelings about fennel. its mostly hate.) not for those on a diet though. the guy beside me ordered a salad with salmon. it was HUGE. I wish I got one too. it looked yummy. Oh theres also an up stairs that is kind of ignored. I kind of wish I ate there instead of outside, that way, I can have the whole room to myself. read more

LOVE it! My friends found it and took me there the last night of our trip. I have since been back many times. I love the atmosphere and the cobblestone street. It's worth looking for. The brick and the soup of the day are my favorite along with the drinks. If the weather is nice sit outside. And I took my cousins there and guess who came up stairs! Rick Steves! That was cool. He was so nice and very down to earth. He came over said hello and asked how our trip was going. So .. you never know who you could bump into! read more

This place is charming. Utterly charming. A small, quaint little cafe situated off the beaten path. The food was excellent. I had the egg, cheese, and ham "brick" and it was wonderful. Very simple but hearty and filling. The staff are friendly and speak some some English and were also very patient with my broken French. We came here specifically for the hot chocolate that we had read about in an article somewhere. What a treat! You get a bowl which has melted chocolate on the sides and you also get a small pitcher of hot milk with it. So you add as much milk as you want. My kids are in love with this idea and only want hot chocolate made this way from now on. I must say it was delicious. Looking around at other tables and the meals looks fantastic with generous portions as well. read more

Hidden lovely restaurant, really cosy and nice dining space. A bit pricey but simple and tasty food, also great coffee.
