Cozy and very well air conditioned bar which was tremendously appreciated on a hot day. At least a dozen beers on draft with a focus on macros, but there were a few local crafts mixed in from Five Boroughs and Rockaway. Lots of TVs playing sports talk at the time. I'm guessing it's a Mets bar given one of the tap handles was a Mets ball. Service at the bar was quick and friendly. They have a backyard space too. Went here with my husband to see a band which was great but I have to agree with others, the bartender is a real POS. When it was my time to order, I leaned forward, and he gave me such a blank look I wasn't sure if it he was going to take my order or not. Then, he said 'if you don't say anything, I'll go over here.' He walked away, but there was nobody else asking for drinks. I waited, like no big deal until he came back. I said a beer and a screwdriver. 'What?' I repeated myself. 'A beer and a what?' Until I'm finally shouted, 'screwdriver!' and he smirked in such a nasty way, and it wasn't even loud at that moment. I'm positive the drink didn't have any vodka in it, either. It sucks because the venue is really cute and cosy, but if I ever go back, I'll brink my own flask and avoid being treated like shit on a stick because I have a quiet voice. read more

I would've never come to this place had I not been to an event taking place there. Really cute local bar with a little beergarden in the back, and a private party room too! I've been here a few times for a night cap after dinner and it seems to only really get full in the summer. Twice it was just me and my friend at the bar talking to the bartender who is really friendly! The most packed was a Thursday night in the summer. We ordered a cocktail once (they don't have a cocktail menu) - and we probably had the worst Old Fashioned at this place. We couldn't even finish it. Their beer selection on the other hand is really good. Credit Card minimum is $20 and there is no food even though it looks like they have plenty of space for a kitchen downstairs. I came here for the LIC Reading Series and I really liked the space. Its a nice bar with a pub feel and plenty of space. Cute backyard with a bunch of tables that would be perfect for the warmer days. They do the reading series the second Tuesday of every month and I was lucky enough to meet John leguizamo since he was promoting his new book Ghetto Clown. With hopes for American bar grub and drinks in a pub environment, it foiled to great disappoint. The inside bar area is dark and dingy for large wooden picnic benches. While the outdoor patio is a nice space that also serves as a performance space for musicians to hone their craft. The window panels to the patio brings charm to an old school American pub. Two large picturesque Weeping Willow trees adorn the facade while a live performance of folk rally music resonate a thundering loud vibe. Through the grapevine, adjacent residential neighbors complained of the loud outdoor music at all hours throughout the day and night which was briefly suspended. Absolutely no food exist to accompany drinks for my party of two, hence the name LIC Bar not restaurant. To add further dismay, this bar is a real far walk for six geographically inconvenient blocks away from Vernon Boulevard-Jackson Avenue #7 station. I do not recommend LIC Bar for couples as one cannot make eye contact clearly and the inability to hear each other for good effective communication results. If my apt was closer to LIC I would probably live in this bar. Only been a handful of times to see friends' bands play and have had mixed experiences - but all in all 100% great. Nice bar staff, Gus who handles the music is awesome (and talented if you get the lucky chance to see him jam.) Drink prices are reasonable, and they often have food in the bar. Pretty sure you can order sandwiches, but often there is huge trays of free catered goodness. The best part about LIC Bar is the backyard space. A huge enclosed private patio which is absolutely amazing in the summer next to the weeping willow trees, but also convenient for stepping outside for cigarettes/outdoor heart to hearts in the winter. It depends what kind of party you are looking for, but if you want to chill and hear some local music LIC Bar is pretty key. Went here on a Saturday night for a friend's birthday, and the bartender was immediately incredibly rude. We were denied certain drinks, and heard sarcastic remarks about how we'd be better off elsewhere, but still, the birthday girl wanted to be here, and we decided to give our business and give it a chance. We stayed for 1-2 drinks, and headed out. Upon leaving, the bartender yelled out, "hate to see you leave, love to watch you go." Very unprofessional, and embarrassing on their part. Boy oh boy, my experience at this bar last night was STRANGE. I've never been to this bar before and most certainly will not be returning. Was there with a few friends trying to have a very low key catch up over a couple beers (side note, the beer selection leaves something to be desired). Right off the bat we got bad vibes. The bald bartender, who I've now read other scathing reviews about today, was inhospitable to the point of being downright rude. The place wasn't busy at all, so I can't even give him the benefit of the doubt and say he was stressed. As a former bartender I have a low tolerance for those in the service industry who don't know how to provide customer service. No "hi, how are ya?" Or "what can I getcha?", not even a simple smile...just stared at me with a flat face waiting for me to order. Awkward. This kind of 'fuck you for bothering me' attitude continued for the rest of our stay. We had two more friends join us later on, which one of them was clearly drunk. Fine. Big deal, it's late on a Friday night! They weren't loud or unruly, they quietly went to the bar and asked nicely for a beer. This was met with an aggressive refusal saying he stumbled into the bar (which he did not). From this point on said bald bartender and his tall lady bartender sidekick rudely stared at us and made faces for the next hour! This made us all very uncomfortable and pretty annoyed. The bartender's rude high school level staring and whispering to each other was also coupled with unnecessary comments to my friends as they closed out their tabs. Grow up you two! AND to top it all off they added a random shot to our tab (hopefully by accident, but I'm not so sure) and the female bartender was extremely rude about my bringing it to her attention. They got a 0% tip from me which I've never done. Again, no tolerance for such nonsense! These two should be moving on to other professions, as they clearly don't enjoy serving people or have any respect for the bar they work in. I would consider the possibility that they were having a bad night, except for that fact that clearly so many others have had similar experiences with them. AVOID! The bald white bartender has no honor nor respect. I have reason to believe he tampered with my card! I thought this place was ok, they have decent music and drinks despite the shit smell. Last night 1/25-1/26 the bald white bar tender was the hugest douchebag. He tried and succeeded to trick me into drinking more when I was already tipsy, some bullshit about a credit card minimum. This review is directly towards the BARTENDER My friends and I walked in , we're asked for our vaccination cards and IDs and then we decided to start ordering . I ordered a Margarita pitcher because this was my first time here so I thought they offered that and the bartender rudely said they didn't have that. Ticked me off but I went ahead and stayed there to think about what to order and after being overwhelmed with the beers they have on tap my friend ordered a Presidente beer and the bartender replied "This is a white neighborhood and you're in LIC you won't find Presidente here. But you can find it in the Bronx". This bartender you guys hired is basically telling me to leave to a more ethnic area because I'm not good enough for the "white neighborhood" . LIC is literally a gentrified area, couple 2 or 3 decades ago it wasn't a "white neighborhood" at all , far from it . Someone should definitely open up his eyes because Queens is known for being the borough of many cultures, not just for whites. For him to rudely talk to me and my friends like that is completely unacceptable and from the other reviews this isn't the first time he's done this. read more

Love LiC bar. Their Friday nights are always good. I'm never bored here. I love the fact I can order takeout to this location. They allow you to play boardgames and such. Their live music is good too. ::Bathroom Alert:: Always clean and well stocked toilet paper. Their prices are high for a minimum for your credit card. If you don't drink a lot I recommend bringing cash instead. They do have an ATM in the back area on the wall. The booth in the front is great for a part of five people. As one of the oldest bars in Queens/NYC, this place is a great local watering hole with a lot of character. The vibe is welcoming, and I love the sense of comfort I get when I walk into this brick & wood dive. There's nothing like shooting the breeze with the cordial weekday staff while catching some sports & live music. The longer tables inside are great for groups, and the outdoor space is perfect for finishing up work during summer months. This place is great if you feel like spending a late Friday night out, or want to break up a Saturday dog walk with a cold one. I love this place and would recommend to anyone! Stopped in last summer because I heard a buzz of good tunes around the corner. Decided to stay for a drink which turned into several. There was a french acoustic guitarist who sang beautifully. Sitting by the open window to feel the cooling late august air reverberate with french six string. I returned recently on a Monday to hear another guitarist I met at The Giving Tree. It was memorable in all good ways. Nice lighting, non-egotistical crowd, $5 drafts. You can spill on the wood table, later put your elbow in it, and still have a smile on. ATM is higher up and it's one of those which display your balance either way. It's fun to watch people cover it up. I'll be back to hang in their garden. Places like this invoke thoughts like, "LIC ain't that bad" but then you walk to your car and hope nothing comes out of the shadows. read more

This place is okay. You walk in and there's a bar and if you walk in further there's a dance floor with a live band. Came here on a Saturday night. They also have a large outdoor area to hang out on a beautiful night. Down sides: - no food options, drinks only - limited drink options - moscow mule was not good at all and I usually love it elsewhere - there's only one stall for the women's bathroom which leads to long lines - live music wasn't my cup of tea I would probably say this isn't a place where you're going to stay all night. This place was terrific. Like Dominie's Hoek down the street, it's a relatively quiet, albeit different type of bar, and much, much bigger back area with it's own extra roofed back area (if that makes any sense) with even more tables. It's very dark and almost brooding, but we got right into the thick of things with a couple rounds and headed to the back to sit down. Now, first, the music. It's old school. I was singing along to Elvis's verison of "It's Now Or Never" and I think I scared the couple people at the bar and the bartender just by the fact that I knew it. It's not loud at all. Second, the bartender. This woman was either really tired, or annoyed at something, because she seemed to be really sarcastic as she was serving me drinks. I got a diet coke at the end and I asked how much was it, and she gave me this fake blank stare as if I just asked her where she lived or something, and dismissively said, 2 dollars. I think she was really tired. Third, the actual bar. The best thing about the actual bar is totally the Photo Booth. I haven't seen one in a bar in a long time, it really should be a staple because it invites just too much silliness and I could do one set every bar I go to and pile it up into a scrapbook. It's big enough where there's a second bar, but it's not used. The back is really the great part about this place, it's pretty big, say twice as big as say the Bull McCabe's patio. It's one of the nicest backyards I've been to thus far; it's actually done up well, with wall lighting straight out of industrial suburban late 1970s, dark, overhead, reminds me of the lighting at the Colonie Town Library upstate where I'm from. Tables are everywhere but orderly, skinnier ones in the middle with roundtables on the rim connecting to the benches on the wall. The back has a roof over it, and I don't know whta they do there, maybe it's a stage, maybe it's just more tables (which is what was there last night), but it's really nice. The crowd actually started to filter in as we were ending our run, at around 2:40am. Not a huge crowd, but a couple groups filled out the back. The bar itself was dead as dilligent. read more

When I lived in the UES, I used to cross the Queensboro bridge by bike and ride south towards BKLN on Vernon Blvd. This place always intrigued me, but never had the opportunity to stop by and try it. The opportunity materialized last Friday: after the huge disappointment that was the Water Taxi Beach, VH and I desperately needed a drink to pick us up. We gave LIC Bar a try, and we were not disappointed: a pretty decent selection of beers on draft very reasonably priced ($5-6, depending on what you order), friendly faces, and an outdoor seating area that is a little gem. I found the sight of the 3 enormous weeping willows that peer over from the wall particularly soothing. When we got there, most of the patrons were outside, but perhaps because it was a bit late (after midnight) there were plenty of free chairs. read more
